KOTB 15 interview with Murphy MacManus

Hey Murphy, thanks for joining us between sessions at The Pit in London, how are things going up there?

Good, my coaches and training staff are working with me to round out my game, make me a better fighter to get to greater heights in my career. They work hard to drill in the idea, ”you’re only as good as your next win” into my mind.

You’ve been with us since KOTB 2 and you’ve looked better and better each fight. Have you been happy with your development and performances so far?

Yes and no, I’m very happy with the success I’ve had, but I’m a very competitive person, and I always feel I could have won, faster, better.

Your next challenger, James La Grande, is a recent signeee has been calling you out since he joined KOTB. What are your thoughts on him?

I've heard about him from my training partner Ralf Jones when they both competed in La Grand Promotions. He’s a very talented fighter, but I don’t plan on losing this early in my career, if he wants to bang with me, let him.

The night of your fight is also Halloween, or ‘Dia dos Fiéis Defunto,’ as it’s celebrated here in Brazil. Does that hold any significance to you? Are you superstitious at all?

Not superstitious at all, I believe in my technique, strength, and skill and what they can get me as I climb the P4P to number 1.

Thanks, Murphy, we’ll see you Saturday night.

KOTB 15 interview with James La Grande

Hey James, thanks for finally sitting down with us. You’ve been very vocal since you signed with KOTB, are you happy to finally be stepping in the ring?

Yes, I really am. I tried to get fights with other 270k orgs and no one wanted to fight me but here at KOTB there are some great fighters and I am excited to test myself.

You’ve had a ton of success in other orgs, but have never been offered a title shot. Is it satisfying to finally compete for one in your first fight with us?

It really is satisfying. Honestly, I have been offered a title shot but no opponents in the division accepted to fight me, so that was a bummer. But, I am very excited to go the 5 rounds for the first time. I know my cardio level is where it needs to be.

The champion, Murphy MacManus, has been pretty dominant in his reign so far, what are your thoughts on him?

He is the champion for a reason. He has some great stand up skills and he really is a good fighter, but I believe I can take him down. If not in our first fight, I will work back, but I know I can beat him. No disrespect.

You have established a world-class ground game so far in your career, do you continue to sharpen those skills, or have you been adding new wrinkles for your next opponent?

Well, I keep sharpening those skills. I believe my ground game still needs a lot of work but I also added a few new skills to my arsenal and I know if the time is right, I will use them and they will shock the world. For all of you who think I am a one trick pony, well guess again, I will shock you one day. Thanks for the questions but I am off to training. I really can't wait for the fight. Thanks, Murphy, for accepting and thanks to KOTB for the opportunity. CHEEERS.

Thank you, James, and good luck on Saturday night.

KOTB 15 interview with Guy Mourtneant

Hey Guy, nice to see you again. How have you been since we last spoke?

Pas mal, pas mal, I'm a champion now - chicks dig it. Not that chicks digging it have any effect on my training... to be honest it kind of does.

On Saturday night you’ll defend your title for the second time, this time against a talented Polish boxer in Ezekiel Puchowski. Do you see this fight going any differently than the last two?

Well, it is a talented Polish boxer, anything can happen, but ... I have been improving my English and I can tell that it will be a first round KO. It's not that different from the last two.

Why did I mentioned that I improved my English? It's an important skill for mma fighter, I used to have a hard time deciphering what the referee's shouting at me when I was beating the limp and unresponsive body of my opponent.

You have a few challengers in the wing with the dangerous Blob Sapp, new signeee Conrad Mcgillicutty & Sandu Lungu, who looks ready to challenge you again in the future. Is there anyone in the division that you have your eye on?

Yes, all three are splendid opponents and I hope to face them all in the cage... not at the same time obviously. McGillicutty is a showman but Lungu improved greatly since our last fight and I must tell that with him is the fight I anticipate the most.

Educate our fans into some French cuisine. Do you have any particular favorites, or anything you’d be willing to recommend?

Oh, tout de cuisine provence! Anything from Provencal cuisine. My personal favourites are ratatouille and pieds paquets - you take the feet of a lamb and the tripe... uhm... stomach-slice of a lamb and stew them with garlic and spices. Bon apetit.

Thanks, Guy, good luck as always.

Thanks you very much, merci beaucoup. Au revoir.

KOTB 15 interview with Ezekiel Puchowski

Hey Ezekiel, thanks for joining us between sessions at A Hero’s Journey here in Rio. Your manager runs that gym, if I’m not mistaken. How’s everything going over there?

AH! My pal Dr. Jones, I'm doing well and blessed to be here in Rio! As far as the gym goes it’s going swell! Getting new guys all the time. I'm actually the assistant manager for the gym so getting paid to be involved with what I love is awesome.

You’ve avenged your only career loss in your last bout, does it feel good to get that off your shoulders? Are things cool between you two now?

Definitely, especially with the circumstances surrounding the fight, which I won't bring up. Also, while I have you, I'd like to address an issue people have brought up about the fight. It was 100% not fixed. My manager took Thiagus under his wing when it seemed like the whole MMA world turned their back on him due to the scandal. Nobody wanted to work with him, managers or coaches. That being said, he came to our camp freshly off PEDs. You could clearly tell it impacted his stamina & physique heavily. Even the coaches put him through hell in hopes that the "Ex-steroid junkie" would leave. I gotta tell you, though, he’s got heart to have stuck it out. He’s part of the family at the gym now and I'm very happy to say that he’s a very close friend now.

Silva dropped down to MW after his defeat to you. You’re also one of the smaller men in the division right now, do you foresee any future moves down weight for yourself? Or do you enjoy the speed benefits as the lighter fighter?

Actually, yes, I was contemplating a weight class change. My issue is grappling with some of these big lugs. Some of these guys have so much of a weight advantage it wouldn't matter if I were an Olympic wrestler I still couldn't take them down. We'll see how the fight with Guy goes and then we'll talk.

What’s your assessment of the champ, Guy Mourtneant?

He seems like a classy, well spoken guy ... No pun intended *loud chuckle*

But seriously, he’s a terrific fighter. Its gonna be interesting because he uses his clinch offensively for dirty boxing and I use my clinch defensively in between combinations as sort of a break to regain full wind... But I doubt I’ll catch a break during this fight *hahahaha* I wish him the best of luck and let the better fighter win! *haha*

Thanks, Zeke, always great to hear from you.

KOTB 15: Dia dos Fiéis Defunto (Review)

Two weeks after setting a promotional high ‘event rating’ of 117.81 at KOTB 13, the King of the Beach promotion would go on to shatter it with a rating 142.90 at KOTB 15. Carried by an incredible main and co-main event pairing, KOTB 15 saw a packed crowd of Brazilian and non-Brazilian fans celebrating Dia dos Fiéis Defunto, which created an electric atmosphere throughout the night - something felt by the athletes in the cage and the fans outside of it.

Opening the undercard was a matchup at middleweight between two fighters still looking for their first professional wins. Niagara Falls, Canada’s Mike Saban came out the aggressor with kicks and some nice work in the clinch with knees and dirty boxing, and seemed to be controlling most of the first round. Rio’s own Caio Rodrigues would find a way to turn things around with a late takedown and quickly jumped on a tight kimura with moments left. Saban was forced to tap out with only one second left on the clock in what had to have been a disappointing moment.

Caio “Cobra” Rodrigues (1-1, 1-1) defeats Mike “Swampthing” Saban (0-3, 0-3) via Submission (Kimura) R1 - 04:59

We’d stay at middleweight when Scotland’s Brandon Murphy took on Brazil’s Yan Gusmao in a matchup of up-and-coming strikers. While most fans expected a back and forth scrap between these two, this one would be all Murphy in a surprisingly one-sided affair. Murphy easily bounced around the cage and avoided everything Gusmao threw at range, while landing some damaging punches of his own. Despite one punch landed in the clinch, Gusmao seemed to be putting too much into every strike and was hitting nothing but air. Murphy finally sealed the deal with a brutal combo that put Gusmao out on his feet before an unneeded right hand put him to the mat.

“Braveheart” Brandon Murphy (2-2, 2-2) defeats Yan “El Grande” Gusmao (1-2, 1-2) via KO (Strikes) R1 - 03:10

Our only light-heavyweight contest on the card would pit another dangerous Rio-born fighter in Casey Frost against American sprawl and brawler, Julius Bennett. This would end up as another one-sided beating, as Bennett cruised with heavy combinations before leaving the Brazilian crumpled in the corner in a gif-worthy finish. Bennett took to the mic and excitedly spoke about a possible title shot in the future. The commissioner, Dr. Jones, always appreciates this type of attitude from his fighters and will no doubt reward him for his actions. Frost, on the other hand, is in desperate need of a win and will look to get back on track in his next bout.

Julius “Steel” Bennett (2-0, 1-0) defeats Casey Frost (2-2, 0-2) via KO (Punches) R1 - 00:39

We moved to lightweight for our next bout, as former champion Major Major took on a debuting Canadian in Vincent Medard. While Major has certainly had his difficulties on the mat, he’s always expected to challenge his opponents on the feet with his strong muay thai and boxing attack. Nobody told Medard, however, as he tore through Major’s defenses with an onslaught of punches and leg kicks. Besides an early cut-inducing headkick, Major would basically not land anything else for the remainder of the fight. Instead, Medard would eventually put Major face first onto the canvas with a devastating right hand. It’s an impressive debut for the Canadian.

Vincent “The Wing” Medard (2-0, 1-0) defeats Major “Major” Major (4-3, 2-2) via KO (Punch) R1 - 02:46

Closing out the undercard was an exciting matchup between two rapidly rising super-heavyweights, as Canada’s Kevin Wideman took on the Swede, Magnus Karlsson. This one would open, predictably, with an early takedown from Karlsson, who loves to work from top position. Unfortunately for the Swede, this is exactly where Wideman does his best work. The Canadian immediately started moving his hips into a number of triangle attempts before switching into a beautiful armbar. Karlsson recognized it and rolled with it, but it was ultimately too late and he was forced to tap. Wideman now has two straight armbar finishes to go along with his two triangle finishes earlier in his career. Wideman may just have the most dangerous guard in KOTB’s SHW division.

Kevin “The Beast” Wideman (4-1, 3-1) defeats Magnus Karlsson (5-1, 2-1) via Submission (Armbar) R1 - 01:57

Opening up the main card was our ‘fight of the night’ between the now-defunct Elite KT’s only middleweight champion Giblert Melendez and KOTB-veteran Jacare Romero. Cuba’s Romero made the first move with an early takedown and immediately jumped for an ankle lock. The former Mexican kickboxing champion’s defensive grappling held strong, however, as he managed to escape and remain in top control for the remainder of the round. The second stanza proved even more fruitful for Melendez as he began to batter his foe with body shots from range and in the clinch. The end would come at about the midpoint of the round when Melendez connected on a nasty uppercut and follow-up punches. Looks like we may have a future middleweight contender on our hands.

Giblert Melendez (4-0, 1-0) defeats Jacare “Soldier of Jah” Romero (3-4, 2-3) via TKO (Strikes) R2 - 02:35

We moved back to the super-heavyweight division when Croatia’s Mirko Vukovic tied a promotional record for his sixth appearance against Scotland’s Mick McManus. Vukovic, one KOTB’s more well-rounded athletes, came in with an early takedown and a headkick that was close to landing, but McManus got to his feet and avoided the strike before landing a destructive, pinpoint jab that made Vukovic’s eyes roll back in his head. McManus continues to be one of the most dangerous men in the division and looks forward to an important fight against fan-favorite Gustavo Gouveia, while Vukovic will look to start another winning streak after taking some time off to rehab his injuries.

“Merciless” Mick McManus (3-1, 3-1) defeats Mirko “The Shadow” Vukovic (3-3, 3-3) via KO (Punch) R1 - 00:20

Our next matchup was supposed to be an exciting standup war between two of KOTB’s more talented featherweights, but the blasé performance has resulted in a rule change for the promotion. After a couple questionable strategies in recent cards, Commissioner Jones will no longer offer or allow fights between two guys who are under the same manager. This is probably a rule that should’ve been implemented beforehand, so we’ll move along. Long story short, Nameless Fighter battered Bruised Rib Aldo over the course of three rounds while his opponent never attempted a single strike. Nameless came to KOTB holding a belt and was expected to challenge for the featherweight championship after a win here. This may still be the case, but we’ll have to wait and see how everything pans out in the next few days.

Nameless “G O A T” Fighter (8-0, 1-0) defeats Bruised Rib “Excuse” Aldo (5-2, 2-2) via TKO (Strikes) R3 - 03:21

Our co-main event pitted two of KOTB’s most celebrated fighters against each other, as Ezekiel Puchowski challenged for Guy Mourtneat’s super-heavyweight belt. As Puchowski predicted in the pre-fight interview, Mourtneant moved to the clinch after an early exchange and proceeded to punish the Polish boxer with soul-sucking shots to the body and face. After a few minutes of being stuck in Mourtneant’s office, Puchowski would fall to one knee after taking a monster uppercut. Mourtneant smelled blood and proceeded to crumple his opponent with a fight-ending right hook. Mourtneant continues to move up the world rankings and is clearly KOTB’s number one attraction at this point, so it’s with great pleasure that I can announce that KOTB has resigned Mourtneant for another four fights. Puchowski, always a showman, took to the mic and gave props to his opponent and showed off his missing tooth with a bloody smile. He also made a decision after the fight to move to the light-heavyweight division, something a lot of fans have been hoping for.

Guy “4” Mourtneant (7-1, 3-0) via Ezekiel “Power Trip” Puchowski (6-2, 3-2) via KO (Punch) R1 - 02:44

And finally our main event, and what a fight it was, as Murphy MacManus looked to defend his welterweight title for the second time, this time against a very highly-touted newcomer in James La Grande. La Grande appeared to have MacManus on his heels from the beginning, driving through a number of takedowns. MacManus showed patience and got to his feet a pair of times while landing a few hard shots to the body of his Brazilian opponent. The beginning of the end was when La Grande managed to mount MacManus after his third takedown of the round. From here, La Grande mixed in some strikes and went after a number of submissions before finally coaxing the tapout from a beautiful armbar. The Brazilian was very vocal leading up to the fight, so it’s nice to see he indeed has the skills to back it up.

James “Flames” La Grande (9-1, 1-0) defeats Murphy “Shamrock” MacManus (4-1, 3-1) via Submission (Armbar) R1 - 03:26

KOTB 16: Gringo (Preview)

The King of the Beach promotion is back to Hayashi’s Lounge a week after their most successful card in promotional history, and I have a feeling they may repeat that achievement this weekend. KOTB 16’s stacked main card will see a light-heavyweight title fight, a middleweight title fight and a pair of number-one contender fights between some of KOTB’s most popular fighters.

Diesel Hendrix (3-1, 1-1) v Carlos Fierro (3-0, 1-0)

Opening up the aforementioned main card will be a pair of welterweights on the fringe of contention, as Las Vegas-born Diesel Hendrix takes on a fellow sprawl and brawler in Rio’s Carlos Frierro. Hendrix is coming of a tightly contested decision loss to future title contender Rick Sharp and will be looking to get himself back on track here. Fierro, on the other hand, is coming off a knockout win over former KOTB-veteran Inci Yarakos in his debut for the promotion. Both fighters employ really similar game plans of using defensive wrestling to set up powerful punching combinations on the feet. Hendrix should have the more polished boxing and Fierro the better grappling, but this is a really tough one to call. Athleticism, secondary skills and aggression could all play roles in this one.

Blob "Voodoo Child" Sapp (4-1, 2-1) v Conrad "The Joker" Mcgillicutty (4-2, 0-0)

Next up, we have a super-heavyweight fight that the fans have been clamoring over since Conrad Mcgillicutty signed with KOTB. Louisiana’s Blob Sapp has been making waves in the division recently and was very vocal in getting a high level opponent on this card. Dublin, Ireland’s Mcgillicutty - a tireless self-promoter and one of KOTB’s most popular signings in recent memory - wasted no time in calling Sapp out. The two have since engaged in a number of heated arguments, which mostly consist of their opinions over each other’s physical attributes, or lack thereof. Expect both of these men to charge in and start swinging from the opening bell.

Marty McFly (5-0, 1-0) v Simon Sims (7-2, 2-1)

We follow that amazing pairing with another high-stakes bout, this time at light-heavyweight. American Marty McFly will look to follow up his impressive KOTB debut with his fifth straight first round T(KO) against Australian kickboxer Simon Sims. Sims has really turned things around since his debut loss for the promotion and looked the best he ever has in his last outing against a dangerous clinch fighter in Diederik Boschman. This is another fight where both fighters prefer to stand and throw leather, so it’ll be interesting to see if either man chooses to show another side of their growing MMA skill set.

Eric Ashton (7-1, 2-0) v Nathan "The Constrictor" Fisher (3-1, 0-0)

Our co-main event sees the return of KOTB’s middleweight champion Eric Ashton. Ashton has taken a bit of time off since his triumph over Thatcher Halverson, but stayed busy by reaching the second round of the World Grappling Championships in St. Petersburg. He’ll look to defend his title for the first time against Canadian grappling sensation Nathan Fisher. Fisher has spent his entire career at light-heavyweight, but has taken some time since signing with KOTB to change his diet and perfect his weight cutting technique. It seems Fisher has done it correctly and should have no problems making weight come fight time. This is a really interesting matchup with Ashton’s relentless takedowns and lethal GNP against Fisher’s own world-class ground game.

Third Round "YOLO" Romero (7-0, 2-0) v Yuri "Hands Of Stone" Boyka (4-1, 1-0)

And in our main event, Cuba’s Third Round Romero will take on Russia’s Yuri Boyka in what should be a violent light-heavyweight title fight. The champion Romero has looked nothing short of unstoppable in his career so far, with all of his fights ending in knockouts in less than two minutes. In the past, we’ve seen fighters get on top and then try to protect their perfect records, but not Romero. The Cuban proceeded to call out Boyka after his title win, a man many consider to be the most dangerous fighter in the division. Boyka is another striker, but one of KOTB’s more well-rounded ones, as he has shown tight combinations, heavy kicks and devastating knees in the clinch. Overall, this fight and this card is not going to be for the feint of heart. Expect blood, concussions and violence, with a healthy serving of courage and heart.

I told you that midget smoked too much if he really believed he was going to beat me. I cut him open like a pig and knocked him out cold with a little left punch. If you are that small and fat, just stay out of a cage and don't try to fight this big boy! You are now back were you belong, in hospital with 12 days worth of injuries and 15 days of cuts, and that only for less than 2 minutes of work. When are people going to realise that I am for real and don't just talk...?!

KOTB 16: Gringo (Review)

What a card we had this Saturday, fight fans. KOTB 16 saw two new champions crowned, a new leader in promotional knockouts and a pair of wild back and forth fights that resulted in late Hail Mary arm triangle submissions. All in all, KOTB 16 was one of the promotion’s most exciting and highly rated cards in history.

Opening the undercard was an interesting welterweight matchup between a pair of veteran journeymen making their promotional debuts. Nanu Negi, a well-decorated Punjabi boxer, opened the fight by landing some clean punches and kicks but was quickly taken to the ground, which is where most of the fight would take place. Damien Ching, a well-rounded Hawaiian fighter, brought in a ton of experience from fighting in Europe, Los Angeles and Hawaii, and decided his best chance in this fight was on the mat. The two fighters engaged in a frantic mess of sweeps and submission attempts and seemed to have split the first two rounds. The third round was much the same, but with seconds remaining, with both fighters gasping for air, Negi worked a tight arm triangle submission, forcing Ching to tap out with under a minute left on the clock.

Nanu “Nanu007” Negi (2-4, 1-0) defeats Damien Ching (0-5, 0-1) via Submission (Arm Triangle) R3 - 04:25

I’m not sure if Todd Hunter watched the previous fight, but he sure found a way top it. The New Jersey brown belt was still searching for his first professional win and was matched up against another super-heavyweight looking for a win in Moscow’s Lane Herman. Like the previous matchup, the majority of this fight was spent on the mat. While the two were pretty evenly matched up in the grappling department, Herman seemed to be cruising to a decision victory by doing damage with some crisp punches and ground and pound. Hunter, though, wasn’t about to let another victory slip by. With a few minutes to go, Hunter would land his final takedown and immediately started fishing for arm locks before latching onto another late arm triangle submission and forcing the tap with only five seconds remaining. The ‘fight of the night’ bonus is hopefully something Herman can take out of this performance.

Todd Hunter (1-2, 1-2) defeats Lane “Heman” Herman (4-3, 1-3) via Submission (Arm Triangle) R3 - 04:55

Up next we had a pair of Brazilian featherweights making their debuts. Santa Catarina’s Marcelo Cavaliers came into the fight looking a little tired, a little bloated and a little bit confused. Despite holding a clear advantage in the boxing department, Cavaliers immediately jumped in with a clean takedown right into Mauricio Abelha’s wheelhouse. The Rio-born brown belt immediately regained guard a fished for submissions before locking in a tight triangle choke in just under two-minutes. It’s an important debut for “B-Boy” in a division that’s quickly filling with contenders.

Mauricio “B-Boy” Abelha (2-0, 1-0) defeats Marcelo Cavaliers (2-2, 0-1) via Submission (Triangle) R1 - 01:59

Two surging middleweights looking to reach contender status were up next, as Din Aleshi took on Joseph Annuaku. Coming off a questionable decision loss, Annuaku looked out of sorts from the start of this fight. After stuffing an early Annuaku takedown attempt, Aleshi turned it on and fired off accurate kicks and punches for about two minutes in a surprisingly one-sided fight. After finishing things off with a pair of devastating hooks, Aleshi took to the mic and thanked the fans in his usual manner. Annuaku has since been dropped by his management, which is a shame as he was a fight away from being a real contender in the division. We have high hopes he turns it around and returns to KOTB action soon.

Din “Dalesh” Aleshi (4-0, 3-0) defeats Joseph Annuaku (5-3, 2-2) via TKO (Punches) R1 - 02:09

Closing out the undercard was a bloody light-heavyweight affair; something that is becoming a habit in fights featuring Diederik Boschman. Sao Paulo’s Zico Ali was coming off the first knockout loss of his career against title contender Yuri Boyka, and was probably hoping for a better follow-up fight than what resulted. Boschman immediately went into the clinch against the boxer - a place where Boyka had success - and began unloading with punches and slicing elbows. It wasn’t long before the repeated strikes opened a life-altering gash onto the eyebrow of Ali, forcing the doctor to intervene. The knockout victory is fourth in KOTB competition for the former Surinamese wrestler and third via cut, both promotional records.

Diederik “The Hidden Blade” Boschman (4-1, 4-1) defeats Zico “The Kick” Ali (3-4. 0-2) via TKO (Cut) R1 - 02:12

Opening the main card was a matchup of heavy-handed welterweights, as Rio’s own Carlos Fierro looked to continue his undefeated streak against Las Vegas’s Benji Assklown. The American came out the aggressor and landed an assortment of punishing shots early. This seemed to have put the Brazilian on his heels, and while Fierro landed a few good shots of his own, the toll would start to wear on him. The final nail in the coffin would be a huge uppercut that crumpled the hometown fighter and some follow-up punches that would force the referee to intervene. Assklown continues to be on the fringe of contender status and looks forward to a marquee fight against Lucas Campos at KOTB 21.

Benji "Funky" Assklown (4-1, 2-1) defeats Carlos Fierro (3-1, 1-1) via TKO (Strikes) R1 - 02:59

After some heated arguments over the past few weeks, the crowd was largely split in their cheers and boos for our next fight - one of the most anticipated non-title fights in KOTB history. At a combined weight of 600 lbs, Blob Sapp and Conrad Mcgillicutty were destined to put their stamp on the division and the cage during this matchup. Sapp rushed in and swung for the fences early, but despite a damaging uppercut, he was hitting mostly air. The surprisingly mobile 7’4’’ Irishman kept on his toes and slipped in and out with jabs, straights and uppercuts before landing a crushing left hand. Mcgillicutty pounced with a barrage of punches and forced the referee to step in and stop any further damage. To his credit, a bloodied and badly beaten Sapp never once fell to the mat, which is quite an accomplishment considering the damage taken. The outspoken Mcgillicutty has silenced the few doubters he has and will wait for his title shot sometime next month.

In what was a common theme on the night, we had another highly anticipated matchup that ended in a surprisingly one-sided fashion. The baby faced Marty McFly was coming off of four straight first round finishes and appeared to be on the brink of title contention, but nobody told Simon Sims. The Australian kickboxer was coming off a pair of first round finishes of his own and looked extra sharp in this one. The two competitors stood in the pocket and exchanged for over a minute to start the fight, with Sims getting the better of it. Sims would then send McFly tumbling to the mat with a big right hand and followed it up with a brutal straight right that went right through McFly’s defenses, knocking the American out cold. Sims has rebounded nicely from his debut loss and appears to be the number one contender. He’ll try and solidify that spot next month when he takes on the polarizing former super-heavyweight, Thiagus Davaru Silva.

Simon Sims (8-2, 3-1) defeats Marty Mcfly (5-1, 1-1) via KO (Punch) R1 - 01:24

Our co-main event was the first of two title defenses on the night, as Nathan Fisher made his middleweight debut against the champion, Eric Ashton. The champion found himself in an unfamiliar situation early, as Fisher was able to get a takedown and force Ashton to fight from his back. With his ground and pound attack nullified, Ashton worked hard to advance position and fished for a kimura, while Fisher positioned himself for some ground and pound and submissions of his own. The round would play out in somewhat of a stalemate, but it ultimately went to the challenger in the judge’s eyes. Ashton would turn things around by getting his own takedown to open the second stanza. Fisher looked comfortable, however, and waited for his opportunity. After about a minute of fighting for position, Fisher would hit a lightning quick armbar that came out of nowhere, much to the delight of the Brazilian fans. We now have a new champion and a potential rivalry, as Ashton was very vocal about the title being rightfully his.

Nathan “The Constrictor” Fisher (4-1, 1-0) defeats Eric Ashton (7-2, 2-1) via Submission (Armbar) R2 - 01:34

Our main event featured the first light-heavyweight title defense for Cuba’s Third Round Romero against Russia’s Yuri Boyka. If there was one takeaway from this fight, it’s that Boyka is one scary dude. The former prison-fighting champion was basically flawless, and considering that Romero has dominated everyone in his path up until now, it makes the performance even more impressive. The stoic Russian moved into the clinch early and methodically started working knees and punches. Romero had been working on his clinch game leading up to fight, but he really wore himself out by trying to break Boyka’s grip while taking so many shots. A flurry of destructive uppercuts would spell the doom of Romero at just over three minutes into the opening round. Romero was respectful in his post fights comments but seemed confident in a future title run.

Yuri “Hands of Stone” Boyka (5-1, 2-0) defeats Third Round “YOLO” Romero (7-1, 2-1) via TKO (Punches) R1 - 03:26

There were still doubters? Were are those little bitches at now then? I'll give anyone who stands in front of me the fight of their life. It's nearly impossible to hit me and even if you can, it doesn't hurt me at all. When I hit you, you go down. These are the laws of Conrad!

I don't care if it is the champ who defends his title or the challlenger who wins it as the end result is the same, they will face me and get the beating of a lifetime. They both have KO power, but also both have been KO'd already. I haven't had a scratch yet... Too bad I will have to wait a bit as the fight between them isn't soon, but I'll take the time to relax, get a nice tan and fly over a few times to Rio to come and see the events and score me some nice girls with awesome brazilian asses!! (Slaps the girl standing next to him on the ass )

"Congratulations on making a show out of your most recent fight Conrad but really, don't be too hasty to face me - it doesn't do well for health, facing me. And you're gonna need your health to properly score brazilian asses."

Thanks. I usually don't get nice words from possible future opponents. Just some friendly advice from me to you as I respect you for complementing me;

Lose your next fight. It's that simple. That challenger hits hard and losing against him would be no fun, but if you win and have to face me, you are in for a completely other experience. I don't just knock them out, I play with them before I decide to give them mercy by knocking their mouthpiece through the arena and make them fall at my feet.

And don't worry about my chances with the brazilian girls. They have never seen a well dressed redhead before, let along one who stands 225cm tall and weigh a hefty 300lbs. The only thing they think when they see me is ' How fucking huge must his third leg be?!!!' They see it as a challenge, I see it as fun :shades:

We interviewed both our main event fighters before KOTB 17:

Chris Karter

Hey Chris, thanks for joining us between sessions at Team Alpha Male in New York, how are things going up there?

Yes, New York suits me fine. I'm training with guys like Camacho and Atunes, you know, world-class operators so it's awesome. I miss the Florida weather though, but fighting is my job my life and Team Alpha is an awesome camp.

You’re KOTB’s first and only featherweight champion, with this being your second defense. Are you confident you can hold onto the title? What’s your long-term future here at KOTB?

Hey, who knows, I hit hard, these guys can't take my power but it's hard facing these ground guys going for submissions. It's like I'm in the shit every time I get taken down. I take each real serious and just want to stay champ.

This is the fourth straight Brazilian you’ve faced down here in Rio, three of which were for the title. Do you enjoy fighting in enemy territory?

Brazil is cool, the fans are amazing and knocking out the locals is fun. Being the bad guy doesn't bother me.

Some fans have been asking about your nickname, is there a significance to it, or is it just an inside joke?

It's after my father Chris Karter, the Convicted manager. In high school the chicks called him ‘the little ginger princess’ because they let him hang out with them because he was no high school jock. Anyhow, I adapted the name for a laugh after I heard my dad getting shit from some punks at a diner where he cleans tables. We don't get on, as he is bum with weak bladder and a drug problem.

Mom thinks it's funny, so I use it.

Thanks, Chris, good luck on Saturday night.

Saturday night will be tough, got to stuff the takedown then do some damage.

Augusto Azevedo

Hey Augusto, thanks for coming into the office. How’s training going at A Hero’s Academy?

Thanks for the invitation, sir. It’s a pleasure to be here. I only recently joined A Hero's Journey: MMA Academy in Rio and things have been going really well. My training has been tailored towards improving my physical skills and sharpening my ‘Jungle Jiu Jitsu,’ so I should be more than ready come fight night. I must thank the owner Cheech Hertzog for being gracious enough to welcome me into the fold and teaching me the correct way to mop a floor *laughs*

You’ve been with KOTB your entire career, are you happy to be fighting so close to home?

It really is ideal, as traveling is getting increasingly tougher without holding a valid passport. I can’t let anybody take my photo, as I know that the camera steals your soul. So, I can only fight in Brazil for the time being ... plus my entire village packs up and comes to see me fight, so it helps if I fight on home soil, as we are not the strongest swimmers, you know? We lost six poor souls at the local pool just this month!!!

You’ve achieved ‘submission of the night’ bonuses in all three of your fights so far. Are you happy with your success and do you believe you can get another one on Saturday night?

I have been delighted with my early progress in KOTB and plan on continuing my bonus streak for at least another fight. My previous opponents really seemed to struggle with my unique style of grappling and I don’t think the division has seen enough of me to combat my skills. That being said, I was impressed that the champ was able to beat my gym-mate Thiago Machado, so he is going to be a much tougher proposition ... ‘keep you hands up and your chin down’ springs to mind!!!

You were born deep in the Amazon Rainforest, but you appear to be very well spoken in at least two languages and you have a very high IQ. Can you give us a bit of background on your upbringing?

It is quite a sad story at the start but I don’t mind sharing this with the loyal KOTB fans ... I was abandoned by my parents at a very young age and left to fend for myself in the jungle. I hunted spider monkeys or toucans for food by day and slept under a waterfall for safety at night. It was extremely lonely for a while, until I was taken in by Christian missionaries at the age of 10 and taught to act like a human being. I was taught English during the week and then taught a primitive form of jiu jitsu as a reward at weekends. I spent seven happy years there, until they were forced out of the country due to malicious untrue rumors regarding his other "special little soldiers," so I stayed in the local area and helped other orphaned children to improve their lives until I made the move to Rio and full time training

Thank you, Augusto, see you again on Saturday night.

You are very welcome, sir, and thanks for the opportunity to tell my story. There have been too many lies told about "missing parents" and my "taste for flesh," so it has been wonderful to set the record straight … now, who do I collect my fee from for this interview??

If I am ever in a press conference with these two boys, point out to me where they are please or I might accidentally kill them when I walk on them. My glasses are pretty big, but damn these kids are small ! Your main event of this weekend weigh less together than I weigh by myself...

KOTB 17: Nossa! (Preview)

We’re back! Our second event of the week will see Chris Karter defend his featherweight belt against yet another Brazilian in Augusto Azevedo. Plus, we’ll see the return of KOTB’s first middleweight champion, as well as a pair of important fights in our lightweight division.

Sven "Sharky" Kowalski (3-2, 0-0) v Ozamataz Buckshank (1-0, 1-0)

Opening up the main card will be a middleweight showcase between Sven Kowalski and Ozamataz Buckshank. Bethnal Green, England’s Buckshank will look to take out another German fighter, after destroying Toni Kroos in his professional debut at KOTB CS3. Kowalski will be looking to avenge his countryman in his first fight in Rio, after beginning his career in Amsterdam and New York. Kowalski has the experience advantage and a classic sprawl-and-brawl style, while Buckshank is a little more of an unknown but has shown deadly hands and good athletic ability.

Lionel "wutUsay" Wright (3-2, 2-1) v Gary Finkler (4-2, 1-2)

Both of our next lightweights will be looking to get back onto the short list of contenders in the lightweight division. Compton thug Lionel Wright is coming off of his first career submission loss in a title fight at KOTB 14, while the Texan, Gary Finkler, is coming off of his second decision loss in KOTB competition at KOTB 13. This is a stark contrast of styles, with Wright’s athletic striking ability against the top control and submission game of Finkler. This should be a back and forth fight and will come down to whoever has the bigger heart and resolve.

Raecius Felix (2-0, 1-0) v Dag "Dregen" Daghammar (2-0, 1-0)

We’ll stay at the lightweight division with a matchup of young and undefeated fighters. Rome via Tokyo’s Raecius Felix has submitted both of his competitors in the first round, while Sweden’s Dag Dahammar has two first round knockouts on his resume. This appears to be a striker versus grappler matchup, but Daghammar does have an untested BJJ purple belt to keep in mind. The winner of this bout will fight in a number one contender fight in the near future.

"The Avalanche" Thatcher Halverson (3-1, 2-1) v Bago "Badaboom" Biga (4-2, 2-2)

Our co-main event will see the return of KOTB’s inaugural middleweight champion Thatcher Halverson in a rematch against rival Bago Biga. Halverson has been patiently waiting for a matchup since his title loss against Eric Ashton at KOTB 9, but has stayed busy by competing in the World Grappling Championships in Hawaii. Biga has gone through a change of management since their first clash at KOTB 5, and is looking to make it 2-0 under John Carter. Halverson used his ground and pound to break the Romanian in their first encounter, so look for Biga to try and keep this one on the feet.

"The Little Ginger Prince" Chris Karter (4-1, 3-0) v "Amazing" Augusto Azevedo (3-0, 3-0)

Making his first main event appearance will be KOTB’s one and only featherweight champion, Chris Karter. The Floridian, Karter, will be facing the fourth straight Brazilian to start his KOTB career, and will be looking to silence the partisan crowd with yet another knockout. His opponent will be Augusto Azevedo who will be bringing his unique “Jungle Jiu Jitsu” style straight from the Amazon. Karter has had much success against grapplers so far in his career, but a lot of fighters have struggled with Azevedo’s funky style.

10670035_853246624699880_477768905763540

Chris Karter Jnr was said to be ecstatic when he heard McDonalds had allowed Assistant Drive Thru manager Chris Karter Snr to take time off to travel to Rio to support his World Champion son Chris Karter Jnr.

Mom and Dad enjoying their first trip to foreign shores are seen here enjoying their apartment in Rio, in an all expenses paid trip funded by the billionaire manager of Karter Jnr, the enigmatic Peel Steel.

Peel Steel commenting from Team Alpha Towers in NY, said "It was important that the Karters got to see their son fight. He is a terrific talent and I am just happy to help a sweet couple."

Reports are suggesting that at border control on entering Brazil Karter Snr was mobbed by thousands of the 'The Strain' fans, who thought the hit TV Vampire show had come to film in their city. Karter Snr was said to have enjoyed the attention.
