SyFi 24 [Preview]
March 16th, 2018 - The Underground in Sydney, Australia
by Malikoy Muza

The Heavyweight king of Sydney Fights Rick 'Roidburg' Piano stomped through another adversary in Bill Shorton to make his first title defence. The number one contendership bout has been set for later this March, when Rivo Riitta and the debuting Gyukosho Fujimoto will face off. The champion Piano will face Odogwu Agrinya in a one-off special non-title fight after the two have been going at it on social media for a good while now. At SyFi 24, many of the hungry heavyweights are looking to make a dent in the rankings to be the next in line to give a chase to the champion. The very same can be said for the lightweights and the super heavyweights, as we have a couple of stellar fights set that will help define the outlook of each respective weight class. Without further ado, here's the round up!

155 lbs : Mirko 'Cro Cop' Filipovic [2 - 0] vs. Max Luther [3 - 0]
The main event pits against two lightweights who are looking to impress management here to line up with whoever is the champion in the future. Both undefeated with two SyFi wins, this should be a stand up war.
- Keys to Victory for Filipovic: Keep on the outside, rather point fighting with pin pointed strikes than forcing to make the fight dirty.
- Keys to Victory for Luther: Luther has established himself as a dangerous presence in the clinch and there's no reason to go for anything different. He needs to grab a hold of Filipovic and dirty box all day.
- Prediction: Max Luther by TKO.

265 lbs : Mohamed 'Durum' Dogan [2 - 0] vs. Brock 'BB' Bolt [4 - 4]
Mohamed Dogan is coming into Sydney Fights with a pair of victories on the local circuit, while Bolt is even in his pair of appearances in SyFi and coming off a TKO finish over Adam Modlinsky in SyFi 14.
- Keys to Victory for Dogan: Durum is certainly going to throw hands and he needs to keep at range to succesfully do so.
- Keys to Victory for Bolt: Feint or clinch to get close for a takedown and let his better ground game do the work from there on out. Avoid the striking exchanges with Dogan, as any extended period of time of that will see Bolt in a serious disadvantage.
- Prediction: Brock Bolt by decision.

265+ lbs : Harry 'Lenghty' Longhas [1 - 0] vs. 'The Russian Bear' Wladimir Yaroslev [1 - 0]
Longhas and Yaroslev enjoyed succesful debuts in SyFi 14, both by TKO, with the fighters returning for their second effort against each other. Longhas was decidedly on the losing side of the first round of his last fight, but dropped Charlie Villenueva following 35 seconds of round two. Yaroslev looked much more impressive after getting the takedown on Anthony Edwards, as he comfortably stopped him with ground and pound.
- Keys to Victory for Longhas: Grappling with The Russian Bear will be a fool's choice. Longhas needs to go out swinging, ready to scrap.
- Keys to Victory for Yaroslev: The only area Yaroslev gives to his opponent is standing square trading. In the clinch and the ground he outclasses Longhas and will be looking for a finish by either grabbing a hold of a lock, a choke or simply smashing his opponent's face to bits with heavy ground and pound.
- Prediction: Wladimir Yaroslev by submission.

265+ lbs : Ivar 'Loftbrook' The Boneless [1 - 1] vs. Matt 'The Guvna' Wills [1 - 1]
In his previous outing for the organization, Matt Wills cinched in the kimura on Yoshimitzu Sakuraba, much the same type of sprawl and brawler as Ivar The Boneless. On the feet Ivar is no joke though, as evidenced by his unanimous decision victory over Theodore Van Anderson where he outboxed his opposition for three rounds.
- Keys to Victory for Boneless: Load up those shots and hit hard.
- Keys to Victory for Wills: It's clear Wills needs to shoot in urgently and not mess around. If he is unable to keep the fight to the ground, Ivar is going to punish him for it.
- Prediction: Ivar The Boneless by decision.

155 lbs : Pormax Zamar [2 - 2] vs. 'Royal Blood' Chakrii Weecharangsan [0 - 0]
A pair of debuts here as the Honduran Pormax Zamar goes against the Thai Chakrii Weecharangsan. Zamar has already fought four times in the Las Vegas local circuit, grabbing a couple hard fought decision victories.
- Keys to Victory for Zamar: Actively level change to get to wrestling range for the quick takedown. Once on the ground, keep busy with strikes and submission attempts to avoid a referee standup.
- Keys to Victory for Weecharangsan: On the feet the Thaiboxer cannot be matched by Zamar, so mixing in kicks with stinging hands will do the trick.
- Prediction: Chakrii Weecharangsan by TKO.

155 lbs : Steph Curry [0 - 1] vs. 'The Celestial Samurai' Hokuto Akira [0 - 0]
Curry and Akira are both newcomers to the promotion and stylistically extremely similar Thaiboxers. There's little to set them apart, except for Curry having the one submission loss in his record from his time on the local circuit. Expect this to be an all-out brawl!
- Keys to Victory for Curry: Stay on the outside doing your thing. No holding back on the exchanges, as they are so evenly matched this might see the judges' scorecards.
- Keys to Victory for Akira: Let it all hang out in your professional debut.
- Prediction: Pick 'em. Can't choose a finish, let alone the winner!

265+ lbs : Zenzo 'Sushi Dicky' Hosoi [1 - 0] vs. Rizwan Khan [0 - 1]
Hosoi and Khan are both only one step into their mixed martial arts careers as they step through the entrance way for their SyFi premiere.
- Keys to Victory for Hosoi: Start grappling from the get-go. Stay careful if the takedown's there as Khan has some submissions in his arsenal that can quickly be fight ending.
- Keys to Victory for Khan: Capitalize on the massive reach advantage. His long lanky limbs will make it easy for Hosoi to grab on and not let go, so it might be best to stay away from the mat and maximize advantegous positions on the feet instead.
- Prediction: Zenzo Hosoi by decision.

265 lbs : Alex Jackson [3 - 1] vs. Gard 'Darkblade' Aatrox [2 - 1]
- Keys to Victory for Jackson: Jackson has a hard right the equivalent of the ol' batteries in a sock. Aatrox simply looks too good for him, but throwing that right is as good an equalizer as any.
- Keys to Victory for Aatrox: Sticking to his usual strategy of clinch and swing should do the trick for Darkblade, if he can slip and bob away from the power punches of Jackson.
- Prediction: Gard Aatrox by TKO.

265 lbs : Jeremiah Porter [0 - 0] vs. Angel 'Squizo' Childress [1 - 0]
- Keys to Victory for Porter: Porter is a highly acclaimed wrestler who has decided to turn to MMA. For his first outing he takes on Childress, a very talented wrestler in his own right. The slightly better boxing of Porter should give him the edge in stand up, so using the clinch to pepper in strikes might be the best option.
- Keys to Victory for Childress: While his opponent is no stranger to the ground game, Angel has the slightly sharper jiu jitsu of the two and should try to utilize that to grab a W.
- Prediction: Pick 'em. Let's go with Angel Childress by decision.

265 lbs : Rosario 'The Crowned' Fusco [4 - 1] vs. 'Steel Drivin Man' John Henry [0 - 0]
- Keys to Victory for Fusco: Fusco had a rude awakening in his first SyFi appearance as he faced the very talented Travis Dillon, who finished him in the first round by TKO. In the local circuit, however, he has established himself as a solid brawler with a good chin and a stellar straight. If he can keep it standing, he should be able to stop Henry with his trusty fists.
- Keys to Victory for Henry: An unknown quantity, there's not much known about John Henry. Apparently a blue belt in BJJ, he should definitely use that to his advantage as otherwise it's going to be a long night for Henry.
- Prediction: Rosario Fusco by knockout.

Sydney Fights

SyFi 25

March 17th 2018 - Hyashi’s Lounge - Sydney

(1-0, 135 lbs) Dani “El Cid” Rodriguez

VS

(0-1, 135 lbs) Zharis “The Sultan” Palmidi

Both fighters in this one are coming in with only one fight under their belt. Palmidi lost in a decision during SyFi 11 while Rodriguez won in a QFC fight via TKO. Both fighters want to try and show they have what it takes to stay in the SFC.

Prediction:

Rodriguez has the win if he can keep it standing while Palmidi should get the victory if he can take him down, because on the ground he has a very large advantage.

Winner: Dani “El Cid” Rodriguez

Palmidi’s manager has been very hands off in his training and I expect his lack of training will lead to a relatively easy victory for Rodriguez.

(1-0, 265+ lbs) Ben “Money” Morro

VS

(0-2, 265+ lbs) Charlie “Destroyer” Villenueva

Just like in the opener we have two inexperienced fighters trying to make their way in the SFC. Morro started off his fight very strong, dropping his opponent right off the bat, but failed to finish him at that point and eventually it dragged into the second round where he finally won. Villenueva on the other hand has lost both of his fights, failing to use his jack of all trades style to attack his opponents’ weaknesses well enough.

Prediction:

Morro has the clear advantage with his boxing so Villenueva will have to attack him in the clinch and or on the ground to get the win.

Winner: Ben “Money” Morro

Villenueva hasn’t shown that he has what it takes to win yet and until he does its hard to pick him as the victor, especially going against someone like Morro who looked strong in his debut.

#5 (2-0, 145 lbs) Marcos “Ratinho” Santana

VS

(3-1, 145 lbs) Jay “Lethal” Monahan

Santana has won both of his fights in the SFC so far using his wrestling and jiu jitsu. He is a fighter you don’t want to let take you down, because his abusive ground and pound combined with his jiu jitsu makes him a scary person to have in control on top.

Monahan lost in the finals of a QFC tournament and will look to showcase the skills that got him into the finals here at the SFC. He relied almost solely on his jiu jitsu as he has little in the way of skills in any other regard.

Prediction:

Both fighters want to duke it out on the ground in this one and the better jiu jitsu fighter will have a large advantage.

Winner: Marcos “Ratinho” Santana

Santana’s superior wrestling should allow him to get the takedown and thus he will fight from the top while his opponent will be forced to fight from his back. As long as Santana doesn’t tire himself out too much with ground and pound it should be a relatively easy victory for him.

(1-0, 205 lbs) Gamzat Gamzatov

VS

(1-1, 205 lbs) Papa Dee

Gamzatov made his debut in the Spartan Fight Club winning via submission before taking a 2 month hiatus and joining the SFC recently to show that his hiatus was for training not out of need.

Dee has had mixed results in his two QFC fights with a win and a loss. For some reason he has been playing a very ground oriented style despite muay thai being his primary skill. It will be interesting to see whether or not he can show his muay thai skills in this one.

Prediction:

If Dee continues to not use his muay thai this fight will have the obvious result of Gamzatov walking away with the victory and as such a big undertone to this match will be Dee’s gameplan coming in.

Winner: Gamzat Gamzatov

Even if Dee uses his primary skills to their full effectiveness I expect Gamzatov to be able to take Dee down and eventually get the win.

(2-0, 135 lbs) Richard “The One” Brown

VS

(1-1, 135 lbs) Naruto Uzumaki

Brown has looked decent in his fights so far only struggling against one opponent due to a granite chin. Even then he managed to pick up the decision win resulting in his current 2-0 record and a successful debut should put him just outside of the power rankings in a newer organization like the SFC.

Uzumaki lost his SFC debut at SyFi 8 to Glass Joe. However, Joe is the next person who will be getting a shot at the SFC 135 pound championship. Uzumaki wants to show in this one that only a contender has a shot against him and anything less is just an easy victory.

Prediction:

Brown has the clear advantage standing and as usual in a fight of grappler vs boxer this fight will come down to whether or not the boxer can keep his feet.

Winner: Richard “The One” Brown

Contrary to my propensity for picking wrestlers, in this one I expect Brown to be able to keep his feet and eventually get the win whether by decision or knockout.

#4(2-1, 145 lbs) Silvio Dante

VS

#9(6-2, 145 lbs) Lartem “The Goat” Obov

In his SFC debut Dante won against the impressive Carlos Sousa in the third round of the fight of the night. He showed that if the fight remains standing he is extremely dangerous and even showed that when taken down he has the ability to find his way back to his feet.

Obov is 1-1 so far in the SFC with his only loss being to the man who just lost his shot at the 145 pound title. His overall strategy is to neutralize his opponent until eventually winning by decision.

Prediction:

Obov will need to get in close to Dante whether by trying to control through the clinch or trying get Dante to the ground if he wants to have any chance at winning.

Winner: Silvio Dante

Dante showed he can hold his own against a wrestler in his last one and as such Obov will most likely have to resort to the clinch in order to get a win. However, Dante’s boxing will show itself even within the clinch and I expect him to get the win in this one.

#3(3-1, 135 lbs) Brain Fog

VS

(3-1, 135 lbs) “Sumato Attack” Daichi Kishimoto

Fog so far is 2-0 and has fought his way up the third position in the rankings so far. He appears to like ending it in the second round and won both of his fights using his wrestling and jiu jitsu ultimately winning by submission. Its not ridiculous to guess that a win here may earn him a spot in the next title fight depending on how he performs against the SFC rookie Kishimoto.

Kishimoto has looked solid in his fights all of which were with other organizations. He is a very highly regarded newcomer to the SFC and the only reason he isn’t in the power rankings is, because he hasn’t fought in the SFC yet. The fact he is starting his career against the third ranked fighter speaks volumes about the expectations placed on him.

Prediction:

Fog so far has used his wrestling and jiu jitsu to control the matches and so has Kishimoto. Kishimoto has the jiu jitsu advantage while Fog has the advantage in the wrestling department.

Winner: Brain Fog

This is a very difficult fight to call, but I give the advantage to Fog, because of his wrestling advantage. If he chooses to use his boxing Kishimoto will be hard pressed to take him down.

#5(2-1, 265 lbs) Cj “The Mauler” Morrison

VS

(3-3, 265 lbs) Yoshihiro “Hansen” Nakayama

Morrison is probably one of the best stand up fighters in the 265 pound division and his only loss came against the contender Shorton. He has not been hit very much in his career and its hard to tell if his fight against Shorton was indicative of a weak chin or Shorton’s extreme power.

Nakayama had a terrible run in the PFF leaving it with a 1-3 record before leaving it for the SFC. He is looking to start fresh now and make a name for himself in a newer organization. As a jack of all trades he enters most fights trying to attack his opponent’s weakness and this is yet another example of a fight where he will have to do so.

Prediction:

Morrison is a much stronger fighter on his feet than Nakayama, but his lack of wrestling and jiu jitsu may come back to bite him as Nakayama is the stronger fighter in that department.

Winner: Yoshihiro “Hansen” Nakayama

Morrison’s takedown defense and jiu jitsu are too poor to see him feasibly winning this fight without an extremely fast knockout and betting on a fast knockout is not a reliable strategy to win consistently.

Co-Main Event - SFC 135 LB Championship Fight

#1(4-0, 135 lbs) Marcelo Barbosa

VS

#2(2-0, 135 lbs) Glass Joe

Barbosa has only had one opponent he didn’t beat via submission since joining the SFC and that is the currently 6th ranked Dema. He should find a tougher opponent in this fight taking on the second ranked Joe.

Joe hasn’t looked nearly as impressive as Barbosa, but he definitely earned his way into the second ranked position. Joe has used his wonderful boxing to win long fights, one via knockout and the other with a decision win. He doesn’t seem to have the most power, but his chin allows him to hang in there with any opponent and outlast them.

Prediction:

Barbosa and his black belt would make short work of Joe on the ground, but it will take a lucky break for that to happen with Barbosa’s wrestling. His ability to get to the ground is sorely lacking and Joe will try as hard as possible to make sure it stays standing.

Winner: Glass Joe

Barbosa is outclassed standing and I believe that he can avoid the clinch long enough to take Barbosa out before having guard pulled on him.

Main Event - SFC 205 LB Championship Fight

#1 (5-0, 205 lbs) Damatang Camara

VS

#2(2-0, 205 lbs) “Killer” Mike Grey

Camara is one of the strongest pound for pound fighters in the SFC at this point in time and in terms of hype he is ranked third at the moment. He has a very punishing style as he focuses the opponent’s body in the clinch and grinds them down using his superior muay thai.

Grey has shown dominance with his wrestling using it to control his opponent’s from on top getting the win from there. His jiu jitsu isn’t the greatest, but as a wrestler a blue belt is usually enough to avoid being submitted.

Prediction:

This is an extremely difficult fight to predict as both fighters are good on the ground, but Camara has a huge advantage standing.

Winner: Damatang Camara

His wrestling is only slightly worse than his opponent’s and his jiu jitsu is better while he has a huage advantage standing so I’d give him the advantage in this one.

Dani "El Cid" Rodriguez: "I will conquer the SFC cage like my ancestors reconquered Spain from the Moors in medieval times. My opponent known as "the Sultan" is in for a very bad time, and I assure you that this is gonna be a spectacular performance. But that's just the beginning, after this weekend and a few more fights, I will quickly break into the top 10 and establish myself as a household name within the SFC.

To all you heathens at 135: BEWARE! My vicious conquest will begin on the 17th, and it won't stop until I am crowned King of the Bantamweight division!"

Sydney Fights

SyFi 26

March 18th, 2018 - Hyashi’s Lounge - Sydney

(1-1, 205 lbs) Haven “WezzyDog” West

VS

(0-1, 205 lbs) Gordon “Irish Madman” Marlow

West debuted at SyFi 17 with a come from behind submission victory after being dominated by his opponent in the first round winning via arm bar halfway through the second round. He looked lost trying to fight standing, but once he got to the ground he made short work of his opponent and will look to do the same here.

Marlow also debuted at SyFi 17, but unfortunately lost in a relatively close fight that went to the judge’s scorecards. While he didn’t show enough for the win, he held his own through most of the fight he just couldn’t quite pull ahead on the scorecards in any of the rounds.

Prediction:
Both fighters are pretty good fighters on the ground, but Marlow has a fairly large advantage standing.

Winner: Gordon “Irish Madman” Marlow

West had trouble in his last bout getting the fight to the ground and if he shows the same troubles in this one Marlow should be able to pick him apart standing up.

(0-1, 185 lbs) Iso Paa

VS

(1-2, 185 lbs) Eren “Bullet” Onay

Paa is making his SFC debut in this one, and this 18 year old looks to be an impressive fighter. He showed extreme resilience in his QFC fight losing to a 25 year old, but forcing him into the third round before finally falling. Now that he is fighting someone his own experience level that toughness will prove even more frightening.

Onay won his mma debut, but has lost two in a row one of which was within the SFC. It is a good sign that he has not been finished by his opponents yet, but it also a bad sign that he has failed to control the fights enough to get the victory.

Prediction:

This is one of the rare instances of boxing versus muay thai and it should be an exciting match to watch as both fighters want to duke it out on their feet.

Winner: Iso Paa

Onay doesn’t appear to have the grappling skills necessary to avoid the clinch attempts of Paa and will most likely lose in the clinch with little chance.

(1-0, 205 lbs) Kent Schoenfield

VS

(0-0, 205 lbs) Krit Leekpai

Schoenfield made his SFC debut in SyFi 17 and won every round for the decision victory. He used his wrestling and jiu jitsu to control the fight from start to finish and even though he couldn’t finish his opponent there was no doubt he won the fight.

Leekpai is here to make his debut at SyFi 26 and has been training for over 2 years in preparation for the day he finally gets to appear in the octagon. He is highly trained in all aspects, only failing to reach strong in his jiu jitsu.

Prediction:

The only aspect Schoenfield has the advantage in is jiu jitsu so his only choice is to try and use that to get the win.

Winner: Krit Leekpai

Its hard to see Leekpai losing this fight, because he holds the advantage in almost every aspect.

(1-1, 170 lbs) Bryan “Heel” Lee

VS

(1-1, 170 lbs) Jackson “Filet” Finnegan

Lee has had both his win and loss go the distance and looks absolutely terrible if he can’t get the fight to the ground. Having 26 failed takedown attempts in his debut shows that that is all he has to show and if you can stop it he has no idea what to do.

Finnegan debuted at the SFC against Miroslav Walker who was undefeated before mysteriously disappearing and its hard to count a loss against such an impressive opponent against him. He will want to show that the loss to walker was just a blip on his record that he can get by on his way to stardom.

Prediction:

As previously stated Lee is a one trick pony in that he wants this fight to go to the ground or he will gas himself trying to get there. The problem for Finnegan is that he also wants to go to the ground and appears to be the less technically sound fighter on the ground meaning he will have to innovate if he wants a win.

Winner: Bryan “Heel” Lee

Lee has had more training time and has used his training time much better than his opponent resulting in a technique difference that will be hard for Finnegan to overcome.

(1-0, 170 lbs) Edgar Avetisyan

VS

(1-1-1, 170 lbs) Risto “Murhaaja” Halonen

Avetisyan is one of the youngest fighters in the SFC at only 17 years of age, but has the skills to back his position in the organization. He is a highly regarded rookie and underestimating him could end up with you out cold.

Halonen is probably excited to finally be fighting someone other than Luc Brood and going up against a hot new rookie who is 6 years younger than himself he will want to avoid a loss at all costs.

Prediction:

Halonen is an all rounder who will be trying to target Avetisyan’s weaknesses to win this fight. The area that from the outside looking in appears to be his best opportunity is within the clinch, but we won’t know how he will fight until the match starts.

Winner: Edgar Avetisyan

As long as Avetisyan can avoid the clinch attempts of his opponent he should be able to win with his slightly superior boxing and make a successful SFC debut.

(1-1, 205 lbs) Luke “Crusher” Bentley

VS
(1-0, 205 lbs) “The Warrior of Love” Kazuma Kuwabara

Bentley followed up his loss to Visigoth at SyFi 1 with a solid victory over Ryan Wilson who left the organization after losing. He looked vicious from the clinch in the win, landing every strike and getting the easy KO victory.

Kuwabara has only fought once so far, but his win with a triangle choke 35 seconds into his fight was impressive enough to yield a sub of the night award. If he can get this fight to the ground he has a chance of ending the fight similarly and would make a strong case for himself to enter the power rankings.

Prediction:

Bentley fights almost solely from the clinch while Kuwabara has the skill set to mix it up whether boxing or wrestling and jiu jitsu. How Kuwabara decides to fight will be the deciding factor in this fight.

Winner: “The Warrior of Love “ Kazuma Kuwabara

This is a tough fight to call, but alongside the chin concerns for Bentley you have to worry whether his wrestling is up to the task of keeping his fight and as such a name Kuwabara the slight favorite in this one.

(2-0, 185 lbs) Mickey Diaz

VS

(1-2, 185 lbs) Mao Kai “The Tree”

Diaz is a fighter who with a win here would probably take a low spot in the power rankings, because he is coming in with two wins, one of which was against an impressive fighter who now hosts a 6-3 record. He has shown the ability to knock someone out with boxing and submit them from the ground if he believes that to be his win condition.

Kai has had mixed results in the SFC ring having lost his debut, but following it up with a win against Reis. Another win here would go to show that his first opponent (who is now signed with RISE) was someone he shouldn’t be embarrassed to have lost to.

Prediction:

Both fighters have very similar stats in that they can both fight standing and on the ground, but one has gone down the boxing path while the other prefers to use his muay thai and that distinction will ultimately decide the match.

Winner: Mao Kai

Diaz has the clear advantage boxing and possibly on the ground as well, but he looks to have no ability to avoid the clinch and that will prove problematic against Kai’s clinch game.

#5(4-0, 185 lbs) Darth Bo

VS

(4-3, 185 lbs) “The Master of Disaster” Apollo Reid

Bo is 1-0 since joining the SFC, but you could almost call him 2-0, because his last fight in the QFC came against Kai before either fighter joined the SFC. He has had trouble finishing opponents in his last two fights, but is very good at reacting to what his opponent does and responding in a way to give himself the advantage.

Reid is making his debut in the SFC in this fight after having fought on the island for his first 6 fights and then joining bumfights for one more loss. Off the island he is 0-1 and doesn’t want to continue to struggle on the mainland.

Prediction:

Bo fights in whatever way he feels he has the advantage and as such this fight is a hard one to predict how it will go, because we don’t know how each fighter will enter this one.

Winner: Darth Bo

Bo has looked too impressive to date to bet against him, but he hasn’t looked so impressive as to be unbeatable and its not out of the realm of possibility that he could lose.

(4-1, 205 lbs) Cornelius Albatross

VS

(4-5, 205 lbs) Rock “RB” Bolt

Albatross enters the SFC with an impressive 4-1 record and having gone 2-1 in the spartan fighting club before joining. This powerful fighters uses his clinch heavy fighting style to dominate the fight and so far he has managed to win via T(KO) 3 times.

Bolt has not looked nearly as impressive as his opponent, but he also has managed to find 4 victories. In his debut with the SFC he lost to Wazowski early in the first round in a very disappointing show. He will look to redeem himself in this one and show that he is a fighter worth watching.

Prediction:

Bolt will want to control this match, because his skill set is much wider and he is a jack of all trades who wants to fight within his opponent’s weak areas.

Winner: Cornelius Albatross

Bolt has very little chance of winning this fight unless he can get this fight to the ground, but Albatross’ wrestling skills should prove too potent for Bolt and this fight will most likely remain standing.

Main Event - SFC 170 LB Championship Fight

#1(3-0, 170 lbs) Pyotr Petrov

VS

#2(2-0, 170 lbs) Mike Johnson

Petrov is one of the most impressive fighters in the SFC so far and the fact he is fighting for the 170 pound belt is a surprise to no one. His last fight really showed his power as he took down the granite chinned Ferreira before the half way point in the first round.

Johnson has only fought once in the SFC, but he created such a strong impression in that fight that Lineman immediately decided to put him in the title to match up against Petrov. His strongest point is his wrestling and in his debut he showed it, easily taking down his opponent where he then TKO’d him with ground and pound.

Prediction:

Petrov is definitely the stronger fighter on his feet, but Johnson similarly outclasses Petrov on the ground.

Winner: Mike Johnson

Petrov has yet to fight a strong wrestler and this inexperience may prove to be his undoing in what should prove to be a very very close fight.

Give me Glass Joe I will beat him within 2rounds

What's the problem, you don't have the gas tank for more than 2 rounds? And you'll be up against someone who just proved 5 is no big deal, think carefully about this kid.

I'd like to take the opportunity to thank first of all my sponsors Knockdown Clothes & Pitbull for their support. Also my manager who started out with me as his first fighter ever when we both decided to go try MMA. And Bob Lineman who has shown enough confidence in me to throw me in with these silver spoon fed private gym brats, just keep em coming, I love crushing their career dreams.

SyFi 27 [Preview]
March 23rd, 2018 - The Underground in Sydney, Australia
by Malikoy Muza

The inaugural Sydney Fights champions have been crowned with some champions having already fallen as new ones look to emerge through the ranks. Mr. Lineman is always looking for worthy additions to the already stacked roster of the premier fighting organization in Australia. Speaking of which, a bunch of fresh, eager youngsters are looking forward to their first time in the SyFi spotlight this Friday in SyFi 27!

265 lbs : Rivo Riitta [2 - 0] vs. Gyukosho 'Fujizilla' Fujimoto [3 - 0]
First up, Gyukosho Fujimoto is making his debut in the main event as he takes on Rivo Riitta in a very interesting bout between two highly ranked heavyweights. Fujizilla is coming over from IFC, where he had a pair of impressive TKO finishes, both in the first round.
- Keys to Victory for Riitta: Riitta has the advantage on the ground, having already finished two of his opponents by first round submission, he should be looking to do just that. Fujimoto is dangerous on the feet and heavy handed, so Riitta needs to avoid standing with him.
- Keys to Victory for Fujimoto: Be creative with offence when squaring up and load up shots with mean intentions in hopes of dropping down Riitta. Quick on the scrambles when on the mat to avoid getting caught in a lock.
- Prediction: Gyukosho Fujimoto by TKO.

155 lbs : Xavier Merlin [3 - 1] vs. Che Huu Mo [2 - 0]
The young English lightweight Xavier Melin is another promising debutant who has made his name in RISE, where he locked in two submissions before getting his streak broken by the RISE lightweight champion. Now he looks to take on the world class grappler Che Huu Mo, who choked out Bigg Sug in SyFi 18 in his lone appearance for the promotion thus far.
- Keys to Victory for Merlin: Merlin is likely going for a quick level change and a double leg, but he's going to have to work in the guard of Mo who is a good submission artist in his own right.
- Keys to Victory for Mo: The better wrestler, Mo is slightly edged out by Merlin on the ground, but that doesn't rule out going for the submission. Especially since Merlin was submitted in his last appearance for RISE, though by a BJJ brown belt.
- Prediction: Xavier Melin by submission.

185 lbs : Gary Red [2 - 3] vs. Jon 'Bones' Silva [2 - 2]
Gary Red is looking to rebound from his title fight loss to Big Asnzee, where he fell to a rear naked choke. Silva likewise tapped to the same submission, but against Tvica Iruscek in SyFi 19. Classic striker versus grappler bout as the middleweights look to return to winning ways.
- Keys to Victory for Red: Close the distance often with a heavy output and overwhelm Silva with sharp striking.
- Keys to Victory for Silva: Silva needs to battle with urgency against the superior striker in Red. The iron chin is going to come in handy as Red lays down the law with his hands. Silva knows he needs get working on the mat as soon as possible.
- Prediction: Gary Red by TKO.

135 lbs : Mike 'Thunder Heart' Chang [3 - 1] vs. Igoramma 'The Calculator' Estionilita [3 - 3]
There's no shame in tapping to a BJJ black belt like Mike Chang did to Marcelo Barbosa in SyFi 11, but he looks to rebound with a victory against the boxer Igoramma Estionilita. Estionilita is also coming off a loss to Kyoji Kubota, who got the finish via an armbar in the second round.
- Keys to Victory for Chang: Tie up Igoramma in the clinch and throw elbows with the punches. The more motivated Chang is in for a chance, despite his underdog status.
- Keys to Victory for Estionilita: Estionilita is a good boxer who has lost a lot of confidence due to his three career submission losses. That might very well prove to be a deciding factor in the fight, unless he can score a big knockout blow with his right hand.
- Prediction: Igoramma Estionilita by decision.

155 lbs : 'The Bombshell' Xander Draven [4 - 0] vs. Nazim Bardakci [4 - 1]
Nazim Bardakci bounced back from his SyFi 5 debut loss to Keon Fazeli by tightening up an arm triangle on El Mas Loco in SyFi 18 to make it one a piece. Xander Draven is making his promotional debut after having impressed management in his showings in the local circuit, including two clean knock outs.
- Keys to Victory for Draven: Put those hands to working duty, laying out Bardakci before he can score a takedown.
- Keys to Victory for Bardakci: Outwrestle Draven and take him to the mat to do your thing with the submission game.
- Prediction: Nazim Bardakci by decision.

155 lbs : Fiyero Lermontov [0 - 1] vs. Aie Thai [0 - 1]
- Keys to Victory for Lermontov: Don't get too greedy, too overconfident, looking for the finish thinking the bout's in the bag. They both got cardio to go for days, so it might end up being a point fighting contest, if Lermontov's going to stand and trade with Aie Thai.
- Keys to Victory for Thai: It's going to be a long night for Thai, since he's outclassed by Lermontov in nearly every aspect. He needs an ace in the hole to take this home.
- Prediction: Fiyero Lermontov by TKO.

155 lbs : Keon 'Stun Grenade' Fazeli [4 - 1] vs. Tieree 'Sm'okin' Joints [1 - 1]
- Keys to Victory for Fazeli: Fazeli got sent crashing down to the mat in his last fight, courtesy of a Filipovic head kick. Tieree Joints is a Thaiboxer, so he might have the high kick in his arsenal to look out for. Fazeli's coming in hungry to take advantage of his better jiu jitsu, but he needs to be aware of Joints' possible counter submissions.
- Keys to Victory for Joints: Joints has faced off with submission artists in all of his professional bouts and the saga continues when he goes against Fazeli. We have yet to see his stand up skills in action, but he's going to have to pull out a bunch of tricks to avoid the same fate he suffered in his loss to De Barros in SyFi 12.
- Prediction: Keon Fazeli by decision.

155 lbs : Logan 'Kircaldy Killa' Reid [2 - 3] vs. Joey 'Coco' Diaz [0 - 1]
- Keys to Victory for Reid: Drag the fight to the ground where Diaz is utterly hopeless and finish him with powerful ground and pound.
- Keys to Victory for Diaz: Stay on the outside and pepper Reid with punches. Mix in some kicks, though they must actually land, not like the Callaghan fight where he missed with every 11 of his kicks.
- Prediction: Logan Reid by submission.

135 lbs : Dax 'Drizzle' Baxter [1 - 1] vs. Ondrej 'Bald' Plesoun [1 - 1]
- Keys to Victory for Baxter: Even though outmatched on the feet, Baxter has the better confidence and energy levels to go longer than Plesoun.
- Keys to Victory for Plesoun: Test the durability of chin by staying in the pocket and trading huge punches. It might be a big swing and a miss at times, but the further the clock runs, the smaller Plesoun's chances.
- Prediction: Dax Baxter by TKO.

155 lbs : Karnak Lao [3 - 4 - 1] vs. Chris Davis [1 - 3]
- Keys to Victory for Lao: Lao has shown to be relentless with his takedown attempts in his previous outings. If he can keep Davis grounded and work submissions, he has an opportunity to get the win and end his pesky little losing streak.
- Keys to Victory for Davis: Davis has lost three in a row now, two in SyFi, but has had tough adversaries to face and stylistically Lao is a better match for him. Cracking bombs to the skull should see him reign superior, if only he can stuff some of the many takedowns Karnak Lao is going to be putting forth.
- Prediction: Chris Davis by decision.

Sydney Fights

SyFi 28

March 24th 2018 - Hard Knocks - Sydney

(5-1, 135 lbs) Joh “The Ice Ax” Fabnik

VS

#8(2-0, 135 lbs) Nick “Moley” Holey

Fabnik has looked strong since joining the SFC having only lost to Fog in his debut via submission. In his last fight Fabnik looked deadly from the clinch, but it was concerning that he couldn’t finish an opponent who was prone to cutting. It will be interesting to see which one of his two SFC fights more accurately represents him as a fighter.

Holey has only fought 1:57 so far in the SFC, but it was time well spent as he submitted his opponent quite quickly. It took him only a single submission attempt to come away with the victory showing that he can be extremely tough to beat on the ground.

Prediction:

Fabnik can win any fight standing, but his opponent will do his best to keep him from staying on his feet and whoever can keep this fight in their particular arena of strength will get the easy win.

Winner: Nick “Moley” Holey

Holey should be able to easily pull guard against Fabnik and his white belt, leading to an eventual submission.

(1-0, 185 lbs) Siddhartha “The Sugar Rush” Sugata

VS

(1-0, 185 lbs) “Bloody” Corey Mercer

Sugata looked strong in his first fight taking out his opponent before the two minute mark in the first round. A repeat victory would put him in line to fight for a spot in the power rankings.

Mercer is also looking for his second win although his first came within a different organization. His first win came on a first round decision (huh?) that he purely outworked his opponent with superior boxing.

Prediction:

Both fighters are coming in with a single victory and no losses to their name wanting to continue their career with a win streak. Mercer can win if he stays on his feet, but Mercer has a huge advantage on the ground.

Winner: “Bloody” Corey Mercer

This is a tough fight to call, but I believe that Mercer should be able to weather the takedown attempts by Sugata.

#9(1-1, 265+ lbs) Bwana Mkubwa

VS

(2-0, 265+ lbs) Gandolf “Magician” Schmidt

Mkubwa may have lost in the first round of the QFC tournament, but he made a successful debut in the SFC winning early in the first round by TKO against Magalhaes. Underestimate him and you may end up losing early just like his last opponent, because his boxing is no joke.

Schmidt has no won 2 straight in the SFC winning both by TKO and is also a very strong striker. A win here would certainly earn him a spot in the power rankings and possibly a chance to contend for the challenger spot eventually.

Prediction:

Both fighters want this fight to happen standing so it will ultimately come down to who has the better boxing.

Winner: Bwana Mkubwa

This fight will be a very close one, but I give the advantage to Mkubwa, because of his advantage in power, but this should be a very close fight and if Schmidt can weather the first round he will hold the advantage later in the fight due to his cardio.

(1-2, 185 lbs) Roel Zuijderduijn

VS

(2-0, 185 lbs) Matias “Buchecha” Alvaro

Roel is joining the SFC after a brief stint at RISE where he finished with a 1-1 record before leaving to join the SFC. In both of his losses he lost early in the 1st round while in his win, the fight went the distance where he won the fight via decision.

Alvaro has only fought in the QFC so far, but has won both with a submission victory in each. After the second win he decided to change managers and will try and show that he can continue winning even in an organization.

Prediction:

Roel has the advantage in every aspect other than jiu jitsu so I expect him to go with the safer option of boxing from a distance to avoid any attempt his opponent makes to get him to the ground.

Winner: Roel Zuijderduijn

Unless the gameplan from Roel is inherently flawed I expect him to win this fight rather easily.

(2-1, 185 lbs) Travis Mitchell

VS

(3-2, 185 lbs) Brajan “Brajanek” Aleksander

Mitchell looked impressive in his debut win over Slam winning half way through the first round via knockout. In terms of pure total skill he is probably one of the most skilled fighters in the organization and his rise to the power rankings is probably only a matter of time.

Aleksander has done fairly well so far and is coming off a decision win in a different organization. Now that he has joined the SFC he will hope to string together some victories and see if he can’t go further in the 185 lb division.

Prediction:

Aleksander will have his work cut out for him in this one facing an opponent who is superior in almost all aspects. The only skill he finds parity with his opponent is in jiu jitsu so he will have to try and use that to his advantage.

Winner: Travis Mitchell

Its hard to see Mitchell losing against an opponent who so clearly outclasses him and it will take a miracle for his opponent or a very bad gameplan for him to lose this fight.

#2(2-0, 185 lbs) Sergei “The Serge” Bumanov

VS

#5(3-1, 185 lbs) Tvica “Tvilllo” Iruscek

Bumanov has made his way to the second ranked position in the 185 lb division in only two victories winning by TKO and decision. He has a fairly wide range of skills he can utlize to further his chances of victory and uses whatever skill set he thinks will give him the highest chance of victory.

Iruscek has hosted an impressive 2-1 record within the SFC and his only loss came against the current champ before he got his belt. Unlike his opponent he specialized heavily towards wrestling and jiu jitsu with an emphasis on his jiu jitsu and is extremely proficient if the fight goes to the ground.

Prediction:

Bumanov has the advantage in most aspects, but if this fight goes to the ground his chance of winning is low, because of how strong his opponent is in that regard.

Winner: Tvica “Tvillo” Iruscek

Ireuscek has fought wrestlers better than himself and managed to take them down so Bumanov’s reliance on not going to the ground is unlikely to yield a victory for him.

#3(3-0, 135 lbs) Pinched Nerve

VS

#9(3-3, 135 lbs) My Gal

Nerve came over from the NJMMA with a 2-0 record highly regarded and in his SFC debut he did not disappoint controlling the fight from start to finish with boxing and dirty boxing. He isn’t scared of giving as good as he takes on the ground before managing to get to his feet again either.

Gal has had mixed results so far in the SFC losing his debut, but winning the follow up fight. In the win he rocked his opponent with a jab showing that either he has impressive power or his opponent came into the fight concussed and a strong wind would have knocked him over anyways. This fight we will get to find out which it was.

Prediction:

Both fighters have an interesting mix of skills making this fight wide open in how it will go down, and gameplans will be extremely important in this fight.

Winner: My Gal

Gal’s more impressive jiu jitsu neutralizes Nerve’s slight wrestling advantage making the muay thai gap that much more prominent so I give a slight advantage to Gal, but this fight is wide open and anyone could win it.

#4(4-2, 205 lbs) Tristan “Hopper” Farsight

VS

(5-0, 205 lbs) Mikey “Daddy” Tyson Jr

Farsight came in from RISE with expectations on his shoulder having narrowly lost his title fight their. In his debut he had a somewhat controversial decision win over Kustaa and will want to prove that the close fight was a product of a tough fight not his own lack of skill.

Tyson Jr is making his SFC debut in this fight after coming under new management. He will want a successful debut to continue his impressive win streak and move to 6-0 while simultaneously taking Farsight’s spot in the rankings. His opponents have never even managed to get to the 2nd round against him before being taken out so he expects to go far in his new organization.

Prediction:

Once again we have a classic example of muay thai fighter vs boxer and as such Farsight has the clear advantage from a distance while Tyson will be much stronger from the clinch.

Winner: Mikey “Daddy” Tyson Jr

Farsight has had trouble against clinch fighters in the past and going up against an impressive fighter in Tyson he will have trouble trying to win this one.

#2(2-1, 265+ lbs) Harald “Viking” Knochmal

VS

#3(2-1, 265+ lbs) Voshon “The Pain Train” Daniels

Knochmal is looking to get his chance at a title fight after losing a fight for the #1 contender position. A win here would make a strong statement that despite losing to Messer he is a strong contender and deserves a shot at the champ.

Daniels had an abysmal start to his career losing to a nobody in a decision fight. Since then he has posted to wins one in 5 seconds and another in 34 seconds. While his opponents weren’t particularly impressive the manner he defeated them in shows a strength all its own.

Prediction:

The fight before this one will be a nice preview as this is a similar bout wherein a thai fighter takes on a boxer and the winner will be the one who can keep the fight in his domain.

Winner: Voshon “The Pain Train” Daniels

Knochmal’s lack of any skill in clinchwork is concerning against an opponent who wants to abuse the clinch to get the win. However, this one is not cut and dry, because Knochmal’s wrestling could be used as a counter to the clinch and Daniels has nothing from his back.

Main Event - 185 lb SFC Championship

Champ(7-0, 185 lbs) Big “Baba” Asznee

VS

#1(4-0, 185 lbs) Wayne Benning

Asznee’s record in the SFC looks more impressive the more you look at it. Even before he took the belt the fighters he defeated are people who are currently in tight competition for the next title challenge. While two of his wins were via decision the fact remains that he is 3-0 and has defended his title once. His 10th spot in the p4p rankings is not accurate for how strong this fighter actually is.

Challenging the champ we have Wayne Benning coming in with an impressive 4-0 record. While he is 2-0 in the SFC he has been untested as the quality of his opponents was such that we don’t know what to actually expect from this man. This fight will show us whether he belongs at the top or may actually just be a middle of the pack fighter who made it this far without meeting any tough fighters.

Prediction:

Anyone who has watched Asznee fight knows that his stand up is very poor and against an opponent like Benning who lives off of his stand up Asznee will have to take this fight to the ground or lose miserably.

Winner: Wayne Benning

Its tough to go against the champ in this one, but Benning has stuffed a better wrestler than Asznee previously and knocked him out rather quickly while Asznee has yet to fight anyone other than a fellow wrestler. (however, Asznee may be able to draw Benning into the clinch and pull guard in which case the win would be very likely for him)

-Eric Leoanrd

P.S. After this week I’m going to stop with the “Prediction” part of my write ups as I seem to just be repeating which I say underneath the winner. It seems like it’d be better to just combine the two.

Sydney Fights

SyFi 29

March 25th 2018 - Hard Knocks - Sydney

(1-0, 170 lbs) Hosep Grigorian

VS

(1-1, 170 lbs) Jack “Beast” Baker

Grigorian is one of the youngest fighters in the SFC and comes with highly regarded skills. He will be a contender in the near future if he isn’t already and a win now would prove to Boble that he has what it takes to be considered in the power rankings despite his age.

Baker looked decent in his SFC debut, but lost in a decision against a tough opponent. Against an impressive rookie he will want to win otherwise it will be tough for him to progress knowing someone 6 years younger is ahead of him in the rankings.

Winner: Hosep Grigorian

Grigorian’s advantage standing is very large and his wrestling and jiu jitsu are just as good as his opponent’s. Its tough to see Baker having any chance in this one.

#8(1-0, 170 lbs) Hanyu “Little Dragon” Lee

VS

(1-1, 170 lbs) Kourtney “Black Panther” Rawlings

Lee managed to create a strong impression in his one victory earning himself the eighth rank in the 170 pound division. He is yet another impressive young fighter in the already strong looking 170 pound division.

Rawlings lost to a heel hook in his first fight something we rarely see in any fight. He will want to recover form that loss and a win against the eighth ranked fighter would show that he is someone with the skills to fight against the ranking fighters in the SFC.

Winner: Hanyu “Little Dragon” Lee

With both fighters liking to fight from the clinch Lee has a large advantage, because of his sensational muay thai skill.

#6(2-0, 170 lbs) Steve “The Celtic Warrior” Collins

VS

#9(3-2, 170 lbs) Julius “The Alpha” Wolf

Collins’ boxing is highly regarded and he has managed to knockout two opponents very quickly in the first round so far since joining the SFC. The fact that his wins were so impressive that he earned himself the sixth spot on the power rankings.

Wolf hasn’t had the most impressive run so far, but he is currently 1-0 in the SFC and this is his chance to move up in the rankings by knocking off the sixth ranked fighter. His jiu jitsu is impressive enough to go against just about anyone in the SFC if the fight gets to the ground.

Winner: Julius “The Alpha” Wolf

While Collins wrestling is good I don’t think its up to the task of stopping all of Wolf’s takedown attempts.

#8(1-0, 145 lbs) “El Castigador De Juarez” Demario Valdez

VS

(0-1, 145 lbs) Darren “T-Daddy” Tellkins

Valdez made his successful debut at SyFi 15 with a TKO victory showcasing his impressive boxing and takedown defense. If he can continue to stay on his feet he will be able to win against just about any opponent he meets in the octagon.

Tellkins has yet to fight in the SFC so far, but lost his mma debut in a QFC fight. He had trouble landing strikes, but his power is enough that if he can land a strike flush you may not walk away from it. A win here would go far in reversing his fortunes and what better place to do it than in an organization.

Winner: Darren “T-Daddy” Tellkins

Valdez’ ability to avoid the clinch is very suspect and I can’t pick him to win against a clinch fighter without any muay thai training.

(2-1, 170 lbs) Khalamedov Nurmagadeeb

VS

(3-2, 170 lbs) Fabio “Xabeco” Ferreira

Nurma has won fight of the night twice so far and seems to thrive in close fights that go into the third round. However, his one fight that ended early was a bad loss for the fighter meaning that he may do poorly against fighters that come at him strongly. Winning this one would probably allow him to make it to the power rankings.

Ferreira’s only SFC fight came against an impressive fighter in Isbrand Gustav. This fight will solidify his position in the rankings since he has lost to one of the top fighters, but has yet to fight any of the middle of the pack or below fighters as of yet.

Winner: Khalamedov Nurmagadeeb

Ferreira’s jack of all trades style will do poorly against someone like Nurma who can take him down rather easily and is even with him in regards to jiu jitsu.

#5(5-4, 205 lbs) Lars “The Modern Viking” Hard

VS

(2-1, 205 lbs) Ricardo Loressi

The fifth ranked Hard did extremely bad at NJMMA, but has managed to snap the losing streak he had there after coming under new management and joining the SFC. He has very good cardio and tries to focus on wearing down his opponents, throwing more body strikes than head strikes.

Yet another fighter who has only fought once in the SFC. He started it off with a win and if he can continue winning he will be yet another one of the new wave of fighters trying to displace those that have been here from the start.

Winner: Lars “The Modern Viking” Hard

Hard’s boxing is much better than his opponent’s as is his wrestling. Loressi will most likely be unable to get Hard to the ground where he can use his jiu jitsu.

#4(2-1-1, 145 lbs) Half Life

VS

#6(2-1, 145 lbs) Derrick Ferguson

Life looked dominant in his first fight in the SFC throwing over 140 punches to barely any from his opponent. It was concerning that despite all the punches he landed he did not manage to knock out his opponent and was forced to win via decision.

Ferguson is a very strong fighter, but I have heard that he is having financial problems and is even struggling to buy the proper fighter gear for himself, and has not been training due to his financial concerns.

Winner: Half Life

Even without Ferguson’s financial concerns Life would probably be the favorite coming into this fight, because it looks like he is almost guaranteed to control the fight.

#1(5-1, 170 lbs) Isbrand Gustav

VS

#4(4-2, 170 lbs) Bruno Javier “Bjj” Jimenez

Gustav has fought three times in the SFC so far and has won each of the possible awards already. He lost his debut to Petrov who is one of the top fighters in the 170 pound division, but has since won two more fights fighting his way up towards the top half of the rankings.

Jimenez is fighting for the first time in a month after being dropped by his manager and picked up by another. His only loss came against a very strong fighter who later left the organization and he was a very highly regarded fighter before being dropped.

Winner: Bruno Javier “Bjj” Jimenez

Both fighters have extremely similar skill sets, but Jimenez’ heavy hands may be the difference maker in this one.

Co Main- Event (Non title fight)

Champion(5-0, 275 lbs) Rick “Roidburg” Piano

VS

(2-0, 240 lbs) Odogwu Agrinya

Piano at this point is probably the most prominent champion the SFC having been very vocal with his opponents for each fight and managing to defend his belt once already against the impressive Shorton. This is a non title fight between two very strong fighters with very experienced managers and is a true test for Piano.

Agrinya just recently turned twenty meaning he is no longer a “new blood” fighter in the IFC. In the IFC he has managed a 2-0 record and is yet another fight (like Shorton was) who has insane strength and wants to test it against Piano’s steroid induced strength.

Winner: Rick “Roidburg” Piano

Can’t vote against Piano with the fights he has shown, Agrinya’s background in kickboxing may prove challenging for Piano, but his ground game is impressive and he is not much worse in the stand up department leading to a slight advantage for the powerhouse.

Main Event - 265+ LB Championship Fight

Champion (3-0, 265+ lbs) Arn “The Enforcer” Anderson

VS

#1 (3-0, 265+ lbs) Ole “The Rock” Anderson

Arn beat Messer very handily just as he did in the other fights leading up to his title shot. He has yet to get out of the first round and he is another champion in the SFC who is looking to keep his belt for as long as possible as the first ever 265+ lb champ.

Ole could very well be the champion if he hadn’t joined the SFC later, he has posted a very similar record and has also not gotten out of the first round. He has had an impressive three submission victories and has even been awarded sub of the night twice since joining the organization.

Winner: Bob Sapp

Regardless of which fighter wins this matchup the manager Sapp still has a champion fighter in his group of fighters. In a wrestling/BJJ fight the sliders will determine the winner so its hard to vote for either fighter since they have the same manager. (will not be doing betting for this fight, because they are controlled by the same manager)

A big weekend featuring 2 title fights and 3 champions comes to a close in Sydney, the highlights were stunning, and the future looks bright, 2 fightcards in 3000 viewer arenas nearly were sold out(thanks to some free tickets :-)), and SyFi produced it's highest rated event yet on Sunday.

Friday:

Of we went with the warm up card for the weekend, but it already featured a No. 1 Contender Fights, Fujimoto Koed Rivo Riita, and got the right to take on 265 Champ and Poster Boy Rick Piano, who was in action in a non title fight on Sunday.

In other action, Xavier Merlin made his SyFi debut, and catapulted himself to the top of the 155 divison, Jon Silva and Nazim Bardacki picked up valuable wins, while perhaps future superstar Fiyero Lermontov made his SyFi debut.

Fight of the night: Tieree Joints vs Keon Fazeli

KO of the night: Joey Diaz

Sub of the night: Nazim Bardakci

Saturday:

SyFi 28 saw 2830 people in attendance, seeing Big Asznee defending his 185 belt against younster Wayne Benning, many saw as a potential champions. But Asznee shut him down on the ground and got the win before the End of Round 1, Voshon Daniels at 265+ punched his ticket to a title fight, after being rocked by Knochmal before. Sergei Bumanov won the 185 eliminator, and will face Asznee in 3 weeks for the belt. In other Action top 10s in their weight class Tristan Farsight, Pinched Nerve and Travis Mitchell picked up wins.

Fight of the night: Pinched Nerve vs My Gal

KO of the night: Voshon Daniels

Sub of the night: Nick Holey

Sunday:

The big one overshadowed everything on Sunday, 2906 people and a 124.8 Event Rating, setting a new SyFi record did it. The brothers duell was a quick one, Arn Anderson needed only 35 seconds to submit his brother Ole at 265+ to defend the title. Rick Piano in his storyline non title fight at 265 only needed 1:52 to KO Odogwu Agrinya, everyone is tensed how he'll handle his upcoming title fight. In other action Bruno Javier Jiminez moved himself to the No. 1 spot at 170, while Half Life and Lars Hard picked up Top 10 wins at 145 and 205.

Fight of the night: Darren Tellkins vs DeMario Valdez

KO of the night: Half Life

Sub of the night: Arn Anderson

RICH PIANO

Well another chump found out he's not in my league. My power is god like! So what's next for the face of SFC? Some bum I'm gonna make play dead. After that who knows, I may come to superheavyweight and take that belt!

SyFi 30 [Preview]
March 30rd, 2018 - Hyashi's Lounge in Sydney, Australia
by Malikoy Muza

265+ lbs: 'Hollywood' Hulk Hogan [4 - 3] vs. Jeff 'Lumberjack' Messer [2 - 1]
Hulk Hogan didn't quite have his Bash At The Beach moment in his debut against Harald Knochmal, having been finished in only 21 seconds. Messer himself knocked out Knochmal, though in his latest appearance had to submit to Arn Anderson's kneebar. These two are looking to bounce back in a classic striker versus grappler battle.
- Keys to Victory for Hogan: Hogan's been hard at work trying to improve his stand up skills in an attempt to round out his game. His hands are nowhere near the level of Messer's though, which is going to make distance control an issue. Hogan needs to be aware of the hooks and crosses diving in for those legs.
- Keys to Victory for Messer: Charge forward like the mythological berserker and open a can of whoop-ass. With both fighters having never made out of the first round, Messer will surely be looking to drop Hulk as soon as possible.
- Prediction: Jeff Messer by TKO.

155 lbs : Pat Williams [5 - 2] vs. Alex 'The Cobra' Coates [2 - 1]
Pat Williams is coming off a loss in the first ever SyFi lightweight title fight to Petchuangtong Sitsongrit, who now has incidentally been revealed to actually be the Bahamian Akimbo Spice. Meanwhile, Coates suffered a loss in the hands of Jake Chimper in his only showing thus far for Sydney Fights.
- Keys to Victory for Williams: Very much the equal to Chimper's BJJ, Williams should look to submit Coates on the ground.
- Keys to Victory for Coates: Add more low kicks to the arsenal, maybe shy away more from the head kicks and body kicks to avoid being taken down.
- Prediction: Pat Williams by submission.

205 lbs : Sheamus Meallan [2 - 0 - 1] vs. Gabriel 'Killa Gorilla' Rangel [2 - 0]
Gabriel Rangel is the first debutant of the evening, a high level wrestler with some decent boxing thrown in. He grabbed two submission victories in the local circuit, before getting signed by Mr. Lineman. Meallan has been impressive in his SyFi career thus far, having scored two first round stoppages by TKO.
- Keys to Victory for Meallan: Go out there and throw hands. The superior wrestling of Rangel might prove an issue, he should not be underestimated.
- Keys to Victory for Rangel: His BJJ is suspect, only a white belt officially, yet he has only the sub wins clocked in his record. There's no doubt Rangel is going to be charging in with a takedown and going for submissions right after.
- Prediction: Sheamus Meallan by TKO.

185 lbs : Diego Maradona [5 - 3] vs. Man 'Moist' Itizer [6 - 4]
Both new to SyFi, Itizer is from Bumfights where he gathered a respectable 2 - 1 record. Maradona has yet to appear for a name promotion, but there's no better the chance than going head to head with a stand up warrior like himself.
- Keys to Victory for Maradona: Bounce around on the outside, keeping the foot moving and slipping the jab.
- Keys to Victory for Itizer: Somewhat of a clincher, this match up plays right into the grips of Itizer. Getting in close might prove difficult at first, but once in the clinch he should have a clear cut advantage over Maradona.
- Prediction: Man Itizer by decision.

155 lbs : Jake 'Wagga Wagga Reaper' Chimper [4 - 2] vs. Chief Thunder Rolls [2 - 0]
- Keys to Victory for Chimper: Don't go gassing yourself trying to take down the better grappler in Chief. Any ground fighting has to be done carefully, as Rolls has dangerous ground and pound he's more than happy to unleash.
- Keys to Victory for Chief: They're likely quite evenly matched when it comes to jiu jitsu, but Rolls has the heavier hands and a wrestling advantage, so Chimper will need a submission finish here.
- Prediction: Chief Thunder Rolls by TKO.

265+ lbs : Katashi 'Shin Buster' Suzuki [1 - 0] vs. Raymond 'Titi Sucker' Kim [1 - 1]
Raymond Kim had a disasterous debut effort against Voshon Daniels in SyFi 21. Daniels dropped him with a single punch, which probably doesn't bode well for him in his quest to overcome a guy nicknamed Shin Buster. Suzuki will be hoping to avoid a similar fate as he goes inside the cage for the first time in his SyFi career.
- Keys to Victory for Suzuki: Suzuki KOed his only opponent in 33 seconds, so he is very much an unknown quantity at this point. Apparently he has good elbows from the clinch, though going there willingly against a superior wrestler in Kim would be a bad idea. The quicker Suzuki can drop Kim the better, so load up those bombs, go airborne and start dropping!
- Keys to Victory for Kim: Simply outwrestle Suzuki, but watch out for the deadly strikes in the clinch. Mix in some strikes with submission attempts once on the ground and grind out a dirty decision.
- Prediction: Katashi Suzuki by TKO.

155 lbs : El Mas Loco [0 - 1] vs. Bigg 'Daddy' Sugg [1 - 3]
Bigg Sugg has lost twice in a row and each by triangle choke, but still holds the SyFi 2 arm triangle victory over Metra Vobol. El Mas Loco tapped to Nazim Bardakci in SyFi 18 by the way of the very same lock.
- Keys to Victory for Loco: Go wild on the feet and strike first.
- Keys to Victory for Sugg: Don't mess around with stand up, Loco is an able striker with the obvious weakness of having no ground game whatsoever.
- Prediction: Bigg Sugg by decision.

205 lbs : Harri 'Persse' Huiha [2 - 3] vs. Andrew Elliot [0 - 0]
- Keys to Victory for Huiha: If Huiha has any clinch or stand up game, he should put it to work here instead of taking the fight to the mat against a BJJ black belt.
- Keys to Victory for Elliot: This is looking like a bad night for Harri Huiha, the Finn is surely going to tap out in Andrew Elliot's professional debut.
- Prediction: Andrew Elliot by submission.

205 lbs : Jengo 'The Chief' Makumba [2 - 0] vs. Emil 'Kommisar' Derrick [2 - 0]
Makumba and Derrick are showing up with two SyFi wins each as they put their undefeated streak and stand up skills to the test in what is going to be a sure fire stand up war.
- Keys to Victory for Makumba: Would be silly clinching against not only the better wrestler, but also the better thaiboxer in Derrick. Stand and hope to land is the game plan!
- Keys to Victory for Derrick: Even though he is superior in the clinch, Derrick will likely avoid it either way and just go for yet another beautiful flush KO to go with the two he's got to show for it already.
- Prediction: Emil Derrick by TKO.

170 lbs : 'Daytime Bob' Ariel At Night [0 - 1] vs. Buddy Quincy [0 - 1]
- Keys to Victory for At Night: Ariel has the boxing and grappling advantage, though Quincy might slightly edge him out in the ground department. With that said, he should probably still look to take the fight to the ground.
- Keys to Victory for Quincy: Likewise for Quincy as the two grapplers go to work in the opener. He still has a good chance of sinking in a lock to end the fight.
- Prediction: Ariel At Night by submission.
