TITLE FIGHT!

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Karockas Thibodeaux16395380211618243767shzuDze%20(3)%20(1).png

Karockas "Rockafella" Thibodeaux (4-0)

Light Heavyweight phenom Rockafella has got himself a title fight on deck as he challenges Leon McClane for his Vandal Fighting Club championship. Both men like to stand and bang, but it goes without saying that the entire Highland Clothing team are behind Karockas as he looks to go 5-0 with a shiny new belt on his shoulder. Good luck Rockafella!

A jab from Diaz finds it's way through Shalashaska's defenses. Shalashaska takes a jab right on the kisser.
Shalashaska is rocked! Shalashaska is still on wobbly legs! Can Diaz finish him?

So WTF happened there you bitch-ass judges? Is it a fight or a fuckin' beauty contest in there? We were 2-2 and in the 5th round I punched the guy face so hard that his mother won't recognize him and you gave him the fight?

We need to get rid of this fuckin' round system and do REAL fights for REAL motherfuckers that end only when one man cannot continue anymore.

Shalashafacka I know you are scared as bitch right now. Gonna train like Rocky fuckin' Balboa fighting bears, lions and shit and take my revenge.

This time you're not going the hear the final bell!

Revolver Ocelot, Adam Shalashaska (21-4-0), 6 times Highland Welterweight Champion, had this to say after the fight:

23b22.jpg

"I'm a man who believes in second chances. My long saga with Diaz began back at the Island, where I managed to win both of our fights. But the man was growing before my very eyes - while I managed to finish the first fight, he lasted all the way to the end in the next. Our third fight? It was so close the judges couldn't even make up their minds. So maybe the next fight will be a draw? And the fight after that will be my loss? As I said, I believe in second chances. Take as many shots as you need. Keep coming at me, and let's keep building our legend."

The cameraman says something inaudible off-screen.

"...That was a different guy? Nolan Diaz? A twin brother? And the guy I fought just now was... Noel Diaz? You're joking, right? No? Well, look, I don't have time for another take. Just edit this in post."

WIN AND TITLE FIGHT

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Lesley Dancer16395380211618243767shzuDze%20(3)%20(1).png

Lesley "Private" Dancer (4-0)

Lesley Dancer was victorious in his fight against Nobu Yoshioka, earning Fight of the Night in a first round stoppage victory. This leads Dancer into his first crack at gold, as he challenges Tobias Berge for the vacant Thibodeaux's Rogues Lightweight Championship on February 5th. Good luck Lesley!

NEW CHAMP!

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Karockas Thibodeaux16395380211618243767shzuDze%20(3)%20(1).png

Karockas "Rockafella" Thibodeaux (5-0)

champs%20belt.jpg

Perhaps the most violent man on The Island, Rockafella won the Vandals Fighting Club Light Heavyweight Championship with his fifth straight first round victory, this time making Leon McClane his victim. An absolute monster, time will tell if any man can pose a challenge to the champ, but on February 5th Olu Banjo is going to fancy his chances.

FIRST LOSS

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Robbie Hall16395380211618243767shzuDze%20(3)%20(1).png

Robbie Hall (2-1)

Unfortunately Robbie Hall is the first man on the Highland Clothing sponsorship roster to be unsuccessful in competition. He challenged Frankie Venegas for the Rogues Bantamweight Championship, but was caught in a third round guillotine. Commiserations for Hall, who we hope will come back strong!

SECOND CHAMPIONSHIP!

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Richard Hall16395380211618243767shzuDze%20(3)%20(1).png

Richard "The Magician" Hall (5-0)

champs%20belt.jpg

The second champion in Highland Clothing, Richard Hall defeated CT Johnson in just 37 seconds to become the VFC Featherweight Champion. The Magician is getting a reputation as the most lethal grappler of the season, and he'll be looking to prove that once again when he fights Eli Snake on February 4th, aiming to make it 6 straight. Interestingly, Snake is managed by Steven Armstrong, manager of Adam Shalashaska, who defeated Hall's Arcalimon Top Team partner Noel Diaz at a recent Highland event. Will it be revenge for the top team?

MUNHOZ VICTORY!

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Alex Munhoz16395380211618243767shzuDze%20(3)%20(1).png

Alex Munhoz (5-0)

Alex Munhoz scored his fifth victory by submission a few days ago, defeating Gordan Acker in round 1. With 2 armbars, 1 RNC and 2 kimuras, Alex is dangerous anywhere on the mat and we are exciting about his future going forward. He currently doesn't have a fight booked, but we're hearing rumblings that a contract for a next matchup is on the table.

ROCKAFELLA CAN'T LOSE!

Karockas "Rockafella" Thibodeaux (6-0)

The first title defence of his run, VFC Light Heavyweight Champ Karockas dispatched challenger Olu Banjo in the opening round. The no sweat effort earned the big man KOTN honours.

The next challenger for the belt comes in the form of Angus Graham, managed by the highly respected Al Van Dal. Will it be 7 straight or commiserations?

NEW SIGNING & LOSS

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Marko Loimula16395380211618243767shzuDze%20(3)%20(1).png

Marko "Malandro" Loimula (3-1)

Last week, we completed the sponsorship of Marko Loimula, a welterweight managed by the respected and multi-time Highland championship manager Partial Differential Equation King. This was ahead of Marko's title challenge in VFC, but unfortunately he was unsuccessful in that challenge, losing by TKO in round 2.

Hopefully we see Marko back in there soon where he can get his first win on the books whilst signed to the Highland Clothing team.

HIGHLAND 135 PRIMER

1644341472135.png

This event doesn't have 10 fights booked yet, and goes down in 3 days, so expect your emails to be blasted after this message goes out!

This card is headlined by the Light Heavyweight Championship match between Torhte Finlayson (24-2) and David Scott (11-1-1).

Torhte is obviously one of the most legendary fighters Highland has ever seen. In January he reclaimed and defended his Light Heavyweight Championship, and you have to hold him as a large favourite coming into this one. But the kicker? David Scott just beat Sonatane Veainu, who has multiple wins over Torhte, in a comfortable decision. Scott's only loss in the company is a majority decision against Biscuit Oliva. So while Torhte will have the bookies on his side, Scott has already upset one of the greats. Can he do it again?

Also on the card we have the rematch between Ricky Thompson (16-10) and King Turn (6-11). While their records tell a story of mismatch, it's actually Turn who beat Thompson in just 46 seconds in each of their pro debuts. Turn is off of the biggest win of his career, defeating Olan Johnson, but Thompson has revenge on his mind.

HIGHLAND 136 PRIMER

1644341494136.png

We have a pair of title fights on this bad boy, which goes down on Sunday 13th in Sydney Australia.

The main event features Adam Shalashaska (21-4) and Ottaa Koppia (15-7) for the Welterweight Championship. Adam is coming off a career high; a majority decision victory over the multiple Of The Year award winner Noel Diaz. This is Adam's third stint with the Welterweight Championship, and the man to halt both previous runs; Maurice Tillet, has moved up to Middleweight. However, Koppia is no stranger to Adam. Back in October 2021, Koppia challenged Adam and won by KO in under 2 minutes. A huge upset at the time, Ottaa has went 3-1 since and is riding a 3 fight win streak into this championship match. Koppia too has held Highland gold, winning the Middleweight Championship from Lucas Barbosa in June 2021. This is a hell of a fight and as fitting a main event as we could get.

Our other title fight featured Enzo Williams (15-11) attempting to make the first defence of his Bantamweight Championship Ricky Luciano (19-6). Enzo shocked the world in many ways last month. Not only did he turn up as a 135er after fighting at 170lbs his entire career, but he upset the odds by defeated Brett Shoenfeld for the BW Championship. A huge surprise for all, Enzo now looks to defend the belt against a natural born winner. Ricky is a 3 time IXF Champion, but has struggled in Highland going 3-2 in the promotion. Dropping down to BW for his last contest, he beat multiple time title contender Mildred Masters by decision. Ricky is hoping this is a new chapter in his career and he can finally pick up Highland gold.

This is a banging card, featuring former champions like Balin Trollslayer and Jorlan Vieira too.

We hope you all tune in for this one.

Fight Replay - Otto Koppia vs Noel Diaz for the 170lb title

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Oooh a lovely combination from Diaz sends Koppia down but not out.

Diaz dives into side control looking to finish.

Koppia is rocked! It looks like Ottaa Koppia has been cut.

Diaz has hold of Koppia's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Koppia seems comfortable defending it but Diaz has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Koppia is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Koppia is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Diaz couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Noel Diaz!

Noel Diaz is the new welterweight champion!

Vatsadze misses with a two punch combination.
Minoru Ii circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Vatsadze to the canvas! Vatsadze doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Minoru Ii keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:42 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kohinata Minoru Ii!
A victorious Kohinata Minoru Ii thanked his army of followers in his post fight interview, telling people to make sure they follow him on Twitter.

AFTER THE ISLAND- “Lucky” Liam Murphy

By Chad Stevens, MMA-LA

15936068357286.gif

With a nickname like “Lucky,” Liam Murphy sure hasn’t had much of it in his fight career. Sitting at an 11-12 record, on the Island Murphy carried an unfortunate typecaste- a sloppy submission specialist. With all 11 of his wins coming from submissions, you’d think the 30 year old Irishman would be a jiu jitsu guru- yet he showed a serious lack of discipline and misfortune by being submitted 5 times himself. Adding more to his streak of unluckiness is his two losses in title fights at Highland- one against Ed Green, and one against the meteoric Noel Diaz. While one can hardly blame him for the loss against Diaz, his up and down career has shown a lack of dedication to his craft.

Murphy was never going to be a fighter. At 25, he was but an unlucky homeless man found frequently loitering around Yellow Lotus gym. Sick of the innefective homeless policies of California, Popart gave him a proposition: Fly to an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and learn to fight- if he proved an aptitude, he could become a member of the gym. As a backup, Murphy was to open a pub on the island- the only one of it’s kind- and send 10% profits back to Los Angeles.

“That was probably the luckiest day of me life- coulda died in some gutter somewhere, I just happened to lay outside of the right business. If there's two things the irish know, it’s pub’s and fighting!”

Murphy ran Lucky Liam’s Pub until several months before the island closed, proving to be largely helpful for the other fighters in the beginning stages of that season. His signature whiskey proved to be beneficial in getting a good night’s sleep, helping reduce the other fighter’s fatigue.

Despite going a measly 7-6 on the island, Murphy charmed his way into a full time position at Yellow Lotus. Regardless of his various ineptitudes, he has shown no signs of slowing down his MMA career.

“God bless Highland for the opportunity they gave me. I fully intend to stay loyal to them until the end. I made enough money to live on with the pub, and now I get to fight for the fun of it. Maybe i’ll break some longevity records- I’ve got another hundred fights in me!”

When asked about his Jiu Jitsu background, Murphy had this to say:

“Look, one of my problems is that for the longest time every opponent has known exactly what my plan is going into a fight. Mr. Manager wouldn’t even let me throw a punch well into my 20th fight. I’ve been training up my boxing, and it’s time to show the world that i’m a real scrappy bastard. I don’t know the gameplan for my next fight, but I do know this- eventually, I’ll get my Luck back.”
