Poster Thread

Had some time that wasn't eaten by school, the gun range, my reptile hobby or anything else ... so I decided to make a couple more posters for Blitz: Down Under. I'm not back to making posters full time yet, or even part time really. But I felt I had to share these, lol.

I want to start creating posters, and have few Q's, if you guys can help me ;)

1. How can I create backgrounds like Coop32 did -> http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/1008/cwfc83.jpg <-- Or, something like Verbalkint did for TTFC?

2. How can I create renders for fighters faces (or maybe someone have them, and can send them to me?)? I have Photoshop CS5, if that matter.

3. What can I do to make them more "real"?

I have 0 experience with stuff like that, so please - explain it as simply as you can :)

I'm looking for a poster maker who can do two posters per week for my org. If anyone is interested, please message me in game with a quote and we can discuss it in detail. Thanks.

I'm horrible at explaining anything in Photoshop as I'm self taught. Therefore, I cant really help you with your questions but I can give you some advice. I am not boasting my skill in anyway by saying this, as I dont even think/know if I'm good...however, you absolutely cannot expect to do anything like the poster I did up there ^^^( unless you find a completely stock photo that you want to use, I just dont see that as much creativity, it's better to be able to create something instead of copy and pasting a poster together)...It takes a long time to get used to the way photoshop works....Some of the best ways to learn is by following tutorials....but choose basic ones as you'll remember the skill..the advanced tutorials you can go through and create but you wont understand a thing.

As for posters, I would focus on getting good at text....lots of different effects that can be done simply; along with effects, go to dafont and download some fonts as you'll want something different. Another thing is backgrounds, for this your goona want to download brushes, patterns, shapes.....they can all be used. A good stock of photos is also very helpful....if you come across something on the net, save it and you can almost always use it for a project. The only other thing you need for basic posters is to be able to crop pictures...and that's easy for newbies...on the left hand side in photoshop you have a tool bar...three spots down the tool bar, click+hold and a menu should show up...choose magnetic lasso tool....it should somewhat do the job itself, click on the outside of the fighters shoulder, and just guide your cursor along the fighters shape....you can do it in sections or all at once, when you want to delete what you selected just bring the cursor back to the beginning without going inside the area needed....might sound confusing because like I said, I don't know any of the technicalities in photoshop....If you try the magnetic lasso...you should be able to understand what I'm trying to say.

IMO, photoshop is one of those things that the avg person thinks is easy....they download it, use it a couple times and stop using it before they even really know its full potential. The more you play with it, the more tutorials/projects you do....the better you get...just like anything else.

Well I don't claim any PS ability, something I should fix what with my new clothing shop, I have started taking a stab at posters. Not the best work I've seen around here, but here are my first two attempts...

I effed up the opacity setting on the fighter names for the 124 poster, and didn't save it as a .psd file :sad01_anim:. Thusly when I looked at it later I realized the names should be darker, but didn't have the time to change it. Now let the fun making begin...

CGrace your PS skills are so weak they couldn't bench press air...

Good stuff. My mentee has just re-opened my old org (Death By Cage) and I'm sure he could use your work. Are you still available?

I take this to mean my posters could use some work...

LOL, sorry man, The first one actually is a really solid idea. Some perspective twist on the logo and the issue you commented on with the opacity of the names mostly. The second is ok, I just don't love the font. :D But it is good work for starting out.
