My guess is that helpful means giving advice, answering questions in the noob forum, and things like that. Philanthropy would be buying VIP for those who need it, giving away startup money to new businesses, and otherwise using money - real or in-game - to make the game better for those who couldn't otherwise afford it. He does help out a lot of noobs behind the scenes, its not always obvious when the only viewpoint is from the forums. For example I know he bought some guys VIP to work for his org doing write ups, posters etc.. and helped another guy fund a gym and more things like that. Top notch manager.
