the best one yet is the guy who ran for a seat and won just because the voters thought he was black -- he never made a single commercial or public appearance nothing at all, but did send out flyers (he never said he was black) that could lead one to think he was black but never said what he was for or against or even what he would do once in office -- so all the blacks voted for him just on thinking he was black then when they found out he was white the shit hit the fan -- will try to find the article on it again was couple years ago there was a big shit storm on it

Isn't it also so that people who has comitted crimes are not eligible to vote in the states? What kind of democracy is that? :)

It's only felons that can't vote. You can still vote after committing minor crimes. I don't think it's right to deny anybody in America the right to vote and think inmates should be able to vote in prison.

Next you'll point out the massively lopsided conviction rates for minorities and suggest it's a white supremacist conspiracy to keep darkie down.

Or the costs involved in registering and running for office.

No I'm not saying it's a conspiracy, just that it isn't a democracy. When you are a citizen of age to vote, then it shouldn't matter if you're in jail or not, or if you've been there.

But yes, it's ridiculous that due to the importance of money to run for the office as you said. Everyone should have the same opportunity to promote their programs.

I am just teasing you/the system, you made a perfectly sensible comment :)

Regarding 'minor criminals' being allowed to vote, felony crimes in the USA include... *deep breath*

Tax evasion (like not reporting your tips)

Fraud

Drug possession (state to state)

Distribution of a controller substance (sharing your meds with friends at a party, woooo!)

Vandalism on federal property (like blowing up a neighbour's letterbox)

"Treason"

Perjury

Cheque fraud

Copyright infringement (Metallica GOOD. Napster BAD!)

Violating parole, probation or dicking around with bond

Threatening an officer (police, judge, etc)

Driving while intoxicated (depends on previous conviction, injury resulting, etc)

Wire fraud (like posting "I love cock" using your friend's facebook login)

Computer fraud (violating a website T&Cs, let's say about lying about your gender in WoW to get more free shit)

Obviously murder, child porn, arson, etc, are not considered 'minor crimes' but lucky that list above keeps dangerous people from making dangerous decisions about who makes the laws and decisions that control the lives of the people in the Land of the Free © (All Rights Reserved)*

*Soon to be a Hollywood blockbuster starring Australian's Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman.

Why do people take so much offense/are bothered by people who don't vote?

You know how many idiots around my age vote don't know what the hell they are voting for? They saw an attack AD on TV so they vote for the other guy. They don't like how this one guy looks so they vote for someone else. It's completely superficial and most of my generation doesn't know what the hell is going on

Why anybody would cast a blind vote is beyond me. I don't care how much of a privilege it is to vote or how much tyranny people have put up with in the past - if you are not informed there is no sense in voting! Call it ignorance if you will, I'll vote when I'm older and know fully what the hell my vote is contributing too

It's not a coincidence that you don't care what happened in the past nor have a grasp on what's going on today.

Anyone see this story about a Republican in Oklahoma who is contesting his primary on the basis that his opponent was actually a body double or robot? Apparently he is a New World Order nutjob. If you want a hearty belly laugh go read his website.

Yeah okay insult me because I'm young and aren't casting a blind vote.

I just don't feel informed enough to vote, and I don't give a shit. Why would I waste time concerning myself with politics, I'm young and enjoying life. And I love history by the way :)

While I definitely dont agree that concerning oneself with politics is a "waste of time" I am sympathetic with your position. Everyone believes their political views are objectively superior to others but almost no one arrives at their views independently and logically, its all shaped by forces around you, largely beyond your control like media, schooling, friends, family. I respect you for wanting to be more informed.

Also as an aside really glad you love history. It really pisses me off how no one takes studying History seriously. In my opinion it is the most important subject one can learn after English.

If we don't study and learn from history, we are bound to repeat the failures of the past.

Here I'm referring to real history, the visible and the hidden.

It's very important to understand that the "winner" writes the official history, often highlighting minor events as major (own positive actions), while at the same time attempting to erase other (own major negative actions).

Not an invalid point at all, yet it is worth remembering that just because YOU'RE sensible enough to think this way doesn't mean other pig ignorant dipshits aren't voting based on whatever other pig ignorant dipship they blindly follow tells them.

There are plenty of examples such as the military castes, religious groups, militias/gun types, unions, etc, etc. Whether it's Democrat or Republican, it makes no difference as its all a big power game using the average punter as the pawn.

I'm not sure what you mean by "official history," I dont really think there is such as thing. There are a myriad of scholars who have studied, written and will continue to study, write and scrutinize over every imaginable historical event and arrive at different conclusions and narratives.

However if by official history you mean the single narrative everyone is taught in elementary school then I would agree. Real lovers of history independently study and definitely need to read more than one narrative to every event they study.

Exactly what I mean.

The history taught to the general public through the education system, the history most people regard as facts.

There is way too much missing and purposely "skewed" from that extracted variation of history, to even begin to see the bigger picture.

But that's also the point of it all.

It's not optimal for various financial power segments, whom operate behind the scenes, for the whole of late history to be available to anyone and everyone.

USA is a country within North America. There is North America, Central America and South America, which consists of many countries.

Thanks for the geography lesson.

The America isnt a country is a quote from some TV show; I thought it was fitting for describing state of affairs.

  • 2 weeks later...

Don't forget Obama inherited from Bush a country in two wars, in the midst of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, with banks collapsing, housing market at a all time low the number of unemployed at a all time high !! that is some of the facts .

And we are still in Afghanistan and Obama's puppet regime in Iraq is disintegrating, the economy is still shit, the banks and wall street are doing well because Obama is bought and paid for by them, housing market is still pretty awful and the # of unemployed is even higher. Now add to that an immigration crisis, a collapsing dollar and a stupid renewal of the Russia/US cold war.

When are people going to stop making excuses for the guy? Bush was an awful president, but 6 years into his term Obama hasn't accomplished much of anything to crow about.

So is it 2 failed regime's is your goal or more troops in Iraq? You seem pretty tough to please on this one. Don't forget that there is fighting in Israel, Syria, and Egypt too. If I didn't know any better I would say that the region is extremely unstable and prone to violence.

the economy is still shit,

Better than Europe's!

the banks and wall street are doing well because Obama is bought and paid for by them,

So is the rest of the world. Wall st is the banks by the way. If you mean the Dow is at an all time high that is because the economy is going up and companies are making more money.

housing market is still pretty awful

pretty awful is pretty big improvement

and the # of unemployed is even higher.

that's just wrong

Now add to that an immigration crisis,

I have no answer for this. I have no idea why people are all of a sudden trying to sneak into our country.

a collapsing dollar

nope

and a stupid renewal of the Russia/US cold war.

I feel like you are just blaming him for everything going on in the world at this point. What could he do that wouldn't escalate things more? This seems similar to the middle east thing where you will bitch no matter what.

When are people going to stop making excuses for the guy?

When it means that the other option isn't drastically worse.

Bush was an awful president, but 6 years into his term Obama hasn't accomplished much of anything to crow about.

The deficit has been cut in half over the past 6 years during a recession without slowing down growth to much which is pretty good. Then there is the ACA which, despite a lot of conservatives best efforts, is improving health care in the USA.

How about asking my opinion rather than giving me a choice between two failed outcomes. I would like us to stay out of it. The reasons for instability in the ME are pretty complicated but we are long past the point were we can "win" the ME. It's best to just withdraw and let the Islam civil war take its course and let our artificial puppet regimes die out. Don't forget that ISIS, who is causing much of the instability, was recently a US proxy in Syria. Google the term "blowback". Non-interventionism is the way to go.

Better than Europe's!

That's a strange argument. Is our economy strong here? I don't see it improving much. Stores and factories are closing everywhere. Over 50% of the people in this country are on some sort of government assistance and the number is rising. Those arent the signs of a strong economy.

So is the rest of the world. Wall st is the banks by the way. If you mean the Dow is at an all time high that is because the economy is going up and companies are making more money.

If you think the Dow is an accurate representation of the strength of an economy then you have no understanding of economic fundamentals. All you have to do is google how many Wall St. bankers were prosecuted for the 08 derivatives crash after Obama took office to find out who is the puppet master.

pretty awful is pretty big improvement

It's still awful. There are a few places in the US were the housing market came back, but they are few and far between. The home prices prior to 08 were really artificially inflated. Houses now cost more along the lines of what their real value is. But Obama's friends the Too big to Fails and wall st. got paid while the bubble was inflated so its all good.

Here is the title of your link:

U.S. job growth surges, unemployment rate near six-year low

Yay, the unemployment rate is "near" the lowest its been under Obama. Did you even read the article? If you want to give the guy accolades for just now getting the unemployment rate "near" the best its been during his presidency go right ahead. You really have to set your bar low to give Obama props here.

I have no answer for this. I have no idea why people are all of a sudden trying to sneak into our country.

Maybe because politicians from both side of the two-headed neo-con party have been talking about amnesty for the last few years. I don't blame the illegals for trying, if i lived in shit and i heard about all the free stuff being given out i'd hop on a train too.

I don't really understand how comparing the Euro to the dollar proves your point. You stated earlier that the US economy was better than Europes. The problem with the dollar is countries around the world are trading internationally in currencies other than the dollar more and more now. When the dollar was the international trade currency, we got a little piece of every action. It was a great situation and we enforced it with our military (thats why we have bases all over the world). Now that our economy and military are as weak as they have been since WW2 we are getting the giant kiss off from everyone else and international trade is happening in other currencies.

I feel like you are just blaming him for everything going on in the world at this point. What could he do that wouldn't escalate things more? This seems similar to the middle east thing where you will bitch no matter what.

The US and allies actively engaged in regime change in the Ukraine to throw out the elected pro-Russian president. How is everything that is happening there now not Obama's responsibility? We started another proxy war on Russia's doorstep.

When it means that the other option isn't drastically worse.

If the other option is McCain, then I'm with you. If the other option is Romney, then who knows? The major problem is there is almost no difference to presidential candidates from either party. We've been a one party country since the 60's. They bicker over the bullshit and let their bases get upset but the main agenda proceeds.

The deficit has been cut in half over the past 6 years during a recession without slowing down growth to much which is pretty good. Then there is the ACA which, despite a lot of conservatives best efforts, is improving health care in the USA.

When you say "cut in half" it's disingenuous to not mention how much of that astronomical debt was incurred when he was in office.

Look at the huge spike in expenditures and the extreme reduction in revenue on the chart in this link in 2009.

That's just the deficit anyway, not the national debt. The deficit is just how much more we are spending than taking in, any deficit is awful. The question is how much more debt have we accrued during Obama's presidency?

From the inception of this country to 08 it was 10,024,724,896,912.49. From 08 to 2012 it is 16,066,241,407,385.89. So just during the first four years of Obama's presidency he has increased the debt over $6,000,000,000,000! http://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/reports/pd/histdebt/histdebt_histo5.htm

You have to set the bar really low to be proud of this guy.

I don't know how the ACA will work out in the long run. Given Obama's track record of total incompetence I am not too optimistic. A bill written by insurance providers that forces citizens to buy insurance has all the hallmarks of a disaster in the making. Lucky for me, I am a highly skilled tradesman and my union provides me with a healthcare plan that puts many CEO's of top companies to shame.
