Guest
What is also missed is the assault on Sholler, if they get away with this then it gives fighters carte blanche in the future to do whatever they like to UFC employees.. not a good standard to set.

Guest
Fight should be pulled, they both should be sat down for 6 months, yank the title belt away. UFC supposedly condones bar/street fighting.. this was nothing more then a bar/street fight. I bet if this was Gamburyan and Gibson they would have been tossed from the card and possibly the UFC. That would be an insanely stupid move on the part of the UFC. You have one of the most profitable events of the year that just became even more profitable due to increased national media attention. Stripping the belt would be even more stupid. Everybody would still know that Jones was the real champ. It would completely destroy the credibility of the belt to let anybody else wear it without taking it from Jones. You are correct that the response would be different if this was undercard fighters, and that is how it should be. Undercard fighters don't sell PPVs. If this happened to undercard fighters, the UFC would still have to deal with negative publicity and would gain nothing from increased sales. In this case, the increased sales and attention for a huge fight will offset the negative press they get.
Guest
There is a place to fight.. and a place not too. This is one of those "not too" places. If you can fight anywhere at anytime then no UFC fighter should ever be tossed for fighting out side the cage. What is also missed is the assault on Sholler, if they get away with this then it gives fighters carte blanche in the future to do whatever they like to UFC employees.. not a good standard to set. These are different things. 1) A street is not a place to fight for UFC contracted fighters. A face off session to build hype for the organisation, that they are contractually obliged to attend and is hosted by the organisation, is a place for this. If they didn't want it, they wouldn't have them come and stand face-to-face and often literally face-on-face. Fuck the hypocrisy. 2) Assault of a 3rd party is a different matter altogether. In the same way that if one of them punches the referee in the balls whilst in the cage it is a different matter altogether. If you pay fighters to fight and you want them to put on a show to promote the fight and you put them in the same room with the goals of hyping the fight... expect a fucking fight. 3

Exactly. It is all part of the theatrics of hyping a fight. UFC officials will pretend to be upset because "We don't condone this, but they hate each other so much that we can't control them!" creates even more hype and sells even more. The build-up to an MMA event is basically pro wrestling.

catako
Not very nice from both fighters. They both should get penalized (like a fee or something, never suspended or stripped of the belt, or if they win * of the night they shouldn't receive the money) for what they did, anyway if you really want to fight do it in the cage.

No. So many words. Two dudes who get paid to fight, were at an event to promote the fight, and they fought. Outrageous. Yes!! Not very nice from both fighters. Nah, they're putting up a show! Both guys deserve a raise if something. The event is going to be dog's bollocks!!

Fuck it, they should just fight wherever they want because they are in the same place.. brilliant lesson to teach. Hypocrisy is Dana running around screaming at the top of his lungs fighters fight in the cage, not outside of it... then it's all cool when fighters, fight outside of it. You can't have it both ways, now the standard has been set... who are going to be the next pair that will ratchet it up to outdo this? What will they do... have the entourage go after a fighter? Why not.. it's a presser, it's all cool at a presser. Anything goes.

Why not.. it's a presser, it's all cool at a presser. Anything goes. I do not work as a professional fighter, and my company does not have any contracted fighters. I work in strawman fabrication, are you interested in a position? I'll repeat it: Professional fighters are contracted by an organisation to fight. They are matched against each other and put face-to-face in a media circus in order to generate hype for the event. They stand toe-to-toe and press faces against each other whilst holding up fists. If this happened to you anywhere you would take it as an act of aggression and a call for a fight, and you would be correct. So when this happens, shockingly given that it is two professional fighters, we're supposed to have moral and professional outrage? Fuck the hypocrisy. This is why they are there.
