ITFL Season 4 - "Carpe Diem"

GBK16

Recommended Posts

Wow, I'm stunned you Corporation sissies didn't take the fight and would rather sit and do nothing (or train desperately) when there was a perfectly good matchup available.

So, I guess it's a decision win and 2 points for the fighter in question? 3 points should be out of the question in my opinion.

Hey leave Dino and Igor aloooooone!!!!! Leave em alone!!!

It's my fault okay? The dog man just... he's having a rough time okay? He got neutered by JLP apparently before he released him and he just isn't the same moonwalking sunnivabish anymore. So just... Okay?!

Even if they would have sent a newly created fighter in to take the fight, there's no reason we would have taken it. It's already been stated that Hartlock gets the forfeit win because the other sissy dropped out after the picks. What's up with this community with all those rules changes?

I personally don't care about the amount of points we get for the forfeit win, but I'm pretty sure that's something to add in the rules for the next tournament, I think shortfuse said that it happens every time, might as well throw in some kind of written rule.

Not changing the rules but you guys could have followed the spirit of the tournament, that we're here to fight. Instead it gives the appearance of taking the easy way out, having this (hopefully) single instance in the tournament that points were just given out. I thought you guys would have been more game than that but I guess I was wrong. Oh well... <_<

I can understand why Corporation didn't take the fight with it being after all the picks were made and fight offers accepted. If they'd known Dinooo's fighter was going to be in it they may have picked their fights entirely different. So I don't really blame them for making the choice they did. With that being said I probably would've accepted because for me personally, I don't just join for the team aspect and it being a fun tournament. I also join for the 10-14 quick fights and the chance to gain some quick hype and rank. (we see how well that's worked for me being winless & all right? lol) So I would've probably chose to fight just for the chance to gain some hype/rank.

Maybe Corporation could get the points and fight just for the hell of it if both sides wanted? They should get at least 2 wins this week though because Legstrong is injured and likely falls to Damozzi :)

I agree with Marky, seriously... the game comes down to fighting. I am not a captain but if you want a bonus point or some shit for Mike dropping out then so be it but take the damn fight and fight.

shortfuse, I suggested to let Hartlock fight whoever, but that we still get the win.

@Dinooo1 ¦ if i put in Jintao to fight John this weekend
@Dinooo1 ¦ instead of that stupid finnish prick
@Dinooo1 ¦ would you guys be cool with that? you guys can get the first 5 picks next time we meet or some shit like that?
@Listerman ¦ I actually want John's guy to fight, but we should get the win no matter the outcome
@Listerman ¦ so we wont have to change anything else
@Dinooo1 ¦ meh if we didn't have a shot at the win, then the fight is meaningless and i would be better off just putting in Boyko the week after since he is a lot better

I say you can have the points for a win for Mike dropping out... but if Dino is gonna come in and fight then that fight should be pointed too. This is a win/win for the Corporation Listerman. If Dino's fighter wins you still get points for the win but so does Vendino. If Dino loses then you get double the points you would have gotten. That is a clear incentive and more than meeting you half way. I dunno how the captains feel about that but I feel that is a valid compromise and covers the point you made while keeping the spirit of the tournament intact.

I think that would've been a fair solution honestly Listerman. I don't think it's good to set a precedent where a fighter can quit at anytime and the team is peer-pressured into accepting whatever the replacement fight is (even though it could be a terrible match-up for them) when the fights have already been picked. Part of the fun in this tournament is setting up the best match-ups to get your team the win. Even if it means using a guy as a sacrificial lamb like I did for Team Davies w/ Severn vs. Hong (my guy was injured and going to lose no matter who the opponent was). So having to just accept whatever doesn't seem fair to me.

If it had happened early enough that you guys could've just re-picked the fights and both sides were okay w/ that then I would say that would've been the best solution. But it was too late for that. I don't really blame dinooo for not wanting to fight when his team doesn't gain from it. I mean his fighter potentially would but he'd also have a lot to lose because I imagine there is a rank difference (haven't looked though). And like I said I personally would've chosen to fought just because it would potentially benefit my fighter but I don't think Corporation should be shamed for doing what you guys did either.

Just reading through this, the decision is made by Listerman, so they will get a win this weekend. I can understand it from both points, and I do understand the lack of a point in them competing if there are no points at stake, especially in the event one of those fighters gets a 15 or 16 day injury, which would mean a major disadvantage going into the next round.

Hopefully we won't have anymore refusals for the rest of the tournament, and we can all get back to enjoying it, even though some drama is usually fun.

I'll leave it up to Vendino to decide who they want to put in, although from the looks of things it will most likely be Boyko Kersikov.

Glad everything got worked out, I really didnt care how they decided to settle it since it does not involve our team. But I have to agree with them not wanting to take a last minute fight when it was their turn to pick. Take the easy point, and get him some more training time.

With that said, it really sucks that this came up at all.

FINN FIGHTERS vs. STRAY DOGS

Sambo Rambo (7-7) vs. Wilder Wein (7-1-1)

Sambo Rambo looks to turn his ITFL season around by picking up his first victory of the season when he steps into the cage against Wilder Wein. A former Infinity lightweight champion Rambo has hit a rough patch in his career with 5 losses in his last 5 fights. Rambo possesses good boxing skills and will look to use put together good combinations to help set up the takedown. Wein is an elite boxer and will look to use a significant reach advantage in this fight to keep his opponent on the outside of his range where he can land punches with no threat of being hit in return. He’s coming off a really tough fight last round with Johnny Luca that ended in a majority draw & unfortunately Wein suffered an injury in that fight that he will be suffering from this round. For that reason I am taking Sambo Rambo to get his first win of the season.

Taisto Perala (9-2) vs. Fabian Hoi (13-2)

Up next Taisto Perala looks to carry the momentum he’s been building lately into the cage against one of the more promising fighters in the 170lbs division Fabian Hoi. Taisto is 2 and 0 with 2 finishes so far in ITFL and enters the cage with 4 straight wins with all 4 coming by TKO. Perela is a very skilled kick-boxer and does a great job at mixing up his attacks to keep his opponent guessing. Fabian Hoi’s momentum came to a crashing halt last week when he lost via TKO in just 31 seconds to Shintaro Nomo. Hoi will look to get things back on track with a convincing victory over a very formidable opponent to prove that he’s a legitimate contender for this season’s 170lbs individual crown. This fight is very interesting and could really go either way but I’m leaning towards Perala because he has a significant reach advantage which will give Hoi problems and has the power in his hands to finish this fight.

Joey Kocur (14-4-1) vs. Antoni Kristofer Hong (11-3)

Former Insanity light-heavyweight champion Joey Kocur has been in some very close fights in our ITFL tournament already picking up a split decision victory over Timur Rubin before fighting to a draw against Frank Damozzi last round. It looks like that trend could continue for him today when he takes on the very game and very dangerous Antoni Hong in a very intriguing match-up. Hong to me looks like one of the scariest heavyweight fighters in the entire tournament. He has a granite chin, excellent striking skills and enough pop in his punches to come into this fight with 9 career TKO victories. Add to that good wrestling ability and a BJJ black-belt and it’s not hard to see why this is a guy most people want to avoid being matched up against. This is another fight that could really go either way but I favor Hong because I think he’s a talented enough striker to keep it close on the feet and he will be to mix in that extra added element he has to his arsenal.

Urho Berserk (11-3-1) vs. Artie Devanzo (13-8)

We have another striker versus grappler match-up in our fight when Urho Berserk steps into the cage to take on Artie Devanzo. Both of these fighters are coming off losses and will be hoping to get back in the win column today. Berserk is a solid striker and will look to use his reach advantage in this fight to keep Devanzo at distance making it harder for Devanzo to land return strikes or secure the takedown. Devanzo will need to find a way to close the distance and get inside to land his strikes or get this fight to the mat. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Devanzo try to push this fight against the cage where he can stay on the inside and work his opponents body to wear him down before dragging this fight to the mat. Berserk comes from a good camp and will come into this fight with a good strategy I’m sure but Devanzo is desperate for a win here and I think he will get the stoppage.

Antonio Jose De Sucre (4-5) vs. Mikaiah Rynn (15-9)

This next fight should be an entertaining scrap for the fans in attendance at the Red Light Arena, in Amsterdam. As they will see two strikers stand in the middle of the octagon and throw down when Antonio Jose De Sucre takes on Makaiah Rynn. Both of these fighters have high finish rates and also have multiple KO losses so I doubt this fight is making it to the judges. Mikaiah Rynn relies more heavily on his elite boxing ability mixing in the occasional kick whereas his opponent is more prone to mixing things up. I believe De Sucre’s versatile attack will be the difference in this fight as he wins it by 2nd round TKO.

PART 2

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/26/26b15.jpg vs. http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/14208351579886.png

Algot Von Panzerhosen (9-8) vs. Joe Louis (9-8-1)

Neither of these next two fighters has exactly lit the world on fire so far in their MMA careers with records just barely above the .500 mark but ITFL presents a great opportunity to get some quick fights and quick wins which is something they will looking to be taking advantage of. Von Panzerhosen is a striking specialist who relies heavily on his kicking game. He will likely be looking to slow down his opponent’s wrestling game by chopping him down and taking away the speed on his shoot takedowns. Joe Louis is an exciting fighter to watch because he comes out looking to take his opponents out right from the opening bell. If you’re able to survive the early onslaught he will put you on your ass and punish you with his ground and pound. This is a tough fight to call but I’m going to go with Joe Louis because I think he’s a much better fighter than his record shows.

Helix Cabrera (8-6) vs. Berhard Adelhard (8-6)

The final match-up between these two teams is an interesting one as Helix Caberera takes on Berhard Adelhard. If this fight stays on the feet I’d have to give the edge to Helix Cabrera because of his knock-out power and also the fact that he comes from Marky’s camp and he’s one of the best in the game in my opinion. But where this fight could get interesting is if Cabrera is willing to risk going to the mat with Adelhard who is sneaky dangerous off of his back. Cabrera has already suffered 3 submission losses thus far in his career and he could very well get his 4th if this one spends an extended period of time on the ground. I believe Helix will play it safe and stick to the striking game in this fight and will pick up his 3rd straight TKO in ITFL.

THE MISFITS vs. TEAM CONQUER

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/32/32w35.jpg vs. http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/25/25w28.jpg

Timur Rubin (14-5) vs. Itse Perkele (13-5)

CEC heavyweight champion Timur Rubin steps into the ITFL cage for the 3rd time to take on Itse Perkele in a striker vs. grappler match-up. Rubin suffered a close split decision loss to Joey Kocur in round 1 but rebounded with an impressive 1st round TKO of Joe Louis. Rubin will look to close use his boxing and pressure to overwhelm Perkele before ducking down with perfectly time takedowns. If this fight hits the mat he will likely have a significant advantage on his opponent and it probably won’t last very long. Itse Perkele is a striking specialist who seems to have found his groove under new management going 6-1 with 6 TKO victories including 2 in ITFL thus far. Perkele will need to use his reach to keep Rubin at the end of his kicks and needs to use his footwork to constantly get back to the middle of the octagon. He cannot afford letting Rubin push him against the cage where he can control him and land takedowns. This fight could really go either way but I’m going to pick Rubin because Perkele’s one loss has come to a very similarly styled opponent.

Chris Severn (10-8) vs. Anakoni Kai (11-2)

Anakoni Kai picked up perhaps the upset of the tournament in our first two weeks when he got a 1st round TKO of the previously un-defeated Giocomo Benvenuti. He will look to keep the momentum going in this tournament with another impressive victory over Chris Severn. Kai is a striking specialist with a well-rounded arsenal and a really solid chin. His opponent has suffered several TKO losses in his career so don’t be surprised to see Kai look for an early finish. Severn has got off to a really rough start so far in our tournament with 2 straight losses. Don’t underestimate him though because he does have good striking skills and knock-out power and a very solid ground game. If I was a betting man my money would probably be on Kai but I’m taking Severn to pull off the upset and get his first win of the tournament.

Dante Cross Furia (6-2) vs. Jamal Jackson (7-2-1)

Dante Cross Furia takes on Jamal Jackson in our next fight. Both fighters are coming off impressive knock-out victories last round and will be hoping to add an additional 3 points to their individual score today. Furia is an elite caliber boxer and has a significant reach advantage in this fight so I expect to see him utilize his jab a lot in this one. If he can fight long and keep Jackson at the end of his range while punishing him with crisp clean shots it won’t take long for Jackson to go down. Jackson on the other hand will have to find a way to get on the inside and land big shots. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jackson try to get this fight to the mat where he should have an easy time controlling his opponent. I underestimated Jackson last week and he came up big but I have a hard time seeing him pull it off 2 weeks in a row. I believe Furia’s range will be a serious problem for Jamal and Furia takes this one by TKO.

PART 2

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/41/41w19.jpg vs. http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/13812864515501.jpg

Shintaro Nomo (18-4) vs. Jay Gatsby (10-4)

Our next fight could be an interesting one when Shintaro Nomo takes on Jay Gatsby. Nomo is coming off an impressive 31 second victory over Fabian Hoi last week and will be looking to make another big statement by beating Jay Gatsby who is 2-0 in our tournament. Nomo will use his boxing to close the distance and set up the takedowns which is where he is seriously dangerous. Nomo already has 8 submission wins to his name and is dangerous from all positions. Jay Gatsby is a knock-out specialist with 9 of his 10 career wins coming via TKO. Gatsby will look to come out and own the center of the octagon in search of a quick knock-out. It will be interesting to see if Gatsby will risk going to the ground with such a dangerous submission fighter. I wouldn’t be shocked if Nomo finds a way to grind this one out but I’m going to take Gatsby to win this one with a late TKO victory.

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/41/41w33.jpg vs. http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/9/9w20.jpg

Johnny Luca (9-5-2) vs. Drug Killjoy (9-8)

This next fight will pit two striking specialists against one another when Johnny Luca takes on Drug Killjoy in a match-up where both guys are looking for their first tournament win. Johnny Luca managed to pull out a draw in his fight last round against Wilder Wein and injured his opponent in the process. Luca has a well-rounded arsenal and good knock-out power which was on display when he knocked Wein down with a combination last week. Killjoy has a slight boxing advantage on paper but he’s giving up 11cm reach and his chin appears to be a bit questionable so I am leaning towards Luca via 2nd round TKO in this fight.

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/13879586291209.jpg vs. http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/40/40b2.jpg

Yani Schulmann (12-1) vs. Pernell Whitaker Jr. (14-5)

Our next fight will see two alliance-mates fight each other when Yani Schulmann takes on Pernell Whitaker Jr. in a 170lbs fight. Schulmann is 1-1 in our tournament so far and will look to continue climbing the rankings with another win here. He is an aggressive striker with good grappling skills and will try to win this fight with his pressure and his wrestling. Whitaker Jr. has had a good showing so far in ITFL going 2-0 in the first two rounds but this is perhaps his stiffest test of the tournament. He has very good striking ability and can also wrestle fairly well. He has held his own on the ground against two guys thought to be superior grapplers so I expect this one to be close. I’ll lean towards Whitaker because he’s a Syn fighter.

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/30/30w39.jpg vs. http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/10/10w2.jpg

William King (13-4) vs. Bruce Wayne (13-3)

There was a lot of banter before the start of this tournament about Scott Davies fighter William King not getting a win in ITFL but he’s looked good so far already getting 2 wins in 2 rounds over stiff competition. A win over Bruce Wayne would solidify William as a legitimate contender to the individual crown so I expect him to be on his game in this fight. He has solid striking skills and a BJJ black-belt. I think King will be looking to finish on the feet but if the opportunity presents itself he will take this fight to the ground and look for the submission. Wayne has looked impressive in ITFL so far with 2 straight stoppage wins. He is an excellent striker with very good knock-out power finishing 12 of his 13 career wins. Another thing to note is that his takedown defense is off the charts successfully defending 95% of his opponent’s attempts. Wayne has been stopped multiple times in his career which is a concern but I think he will find a way to come away with the win this week.
