Curtain Call for Orpheus "Big Guy" Boagrius

On April 8th 2015 , in the first round of a QFC Tournament where nobody took much notice of anything , an unknown fighter would have his debut , and subsequently his first loss in MMA ...

Fast forward over 5 years , and 65 fights later ..... That man's name is Orpheus "Big Guy" Boagrius

Boagrius has been a mainstay of the top 10 SHW list for almost 3 years , including a run inside of it during his initial run in the sport under his previous management. Even now , he would rank inside the Top 10 if he was signed to an organisation.

INITIAL CAREER AND REBIRTH

He began his career with 2 losses surprisingly , but his old manager Altair The Assassin saw huge potential in him , quite literally. After those losses, he amassed an incredible 17 fight win streak as he claimed MMA Gods and Generation gold. Unfortunately , after suffering 2 losses to Cavey Beaumont , his management would disappear leaving Boagrius' future in the sport in doubt ...

After nearly 3 (in game) years outside of the sport , a now 27 year old Boagrius returned to the cage. Looking to build his once fearsome reputation back up (under Grant Brophy's management .... somehow) , he signed for Hardcore Fighting Championship which was based out in the Siberian wilderness.

He instantly gained notice , after scoring three consecutive (T)KO victories inside the first round. This included an unexpected trilogy fight with Tony O Rangers who defeated Boagrius in his second ever fight. He concluded his time in Russia with a dominant performance over Archie Trew before shady dealings in the org caused its inevitable demise.

FIRST RUN WITH GAMMA AND CHRONIC ILLNESS

From there , he signed a highly lucrative deal with long standing Las Vegas based org, GAMMA. Despite previous history between Manager and Org - Both camps understood this was the best move for Boagrius during his rise back to the top. What nobody expected was just how brutal Boagrius' debut inside the org would be. In just 13 seconds , Boagrius cracked his opponent , Joe Jordan , with a hellish haymaker which staggered him. Jordan threw a kick in retaliation , only for Boagrius to drop him once more for good with a massive hook. At the time, Jordan was still a top 10 fighter , and a former #6 P4P fighter.

Something that wasn't disclosed prior to now. Boagrius always tipped the scales at 300lbs , meaning the SHW division was the only place he would ever call home. During his initial run with GAMMA , he suffered a devastating bout of Ulcerative Colitis which caused him to drop huge amounts of weight. After discovering this illness, Boagrius dropped as far down as 272lbs. With proper care and treatment, Boagrius began his recovery and regained his weight back to where it was. Unfortunately this staggered his career , as he went 5-3 during the rest of his GAMMA run , but included wins over Thorbjorn Heimendahl and Sebastiaan Rutten.

REBUILDING TO THE TOP AND SYN CAREER

He wasn't offered a renewal on his GAMMA deal , and so he left and after a short time to maintain his recovery - He signed with Madness MMA.

He instantly took attention of the title scene after beating Aleksandar Dragovic - As he would defeat future #2 P4P fighter Stu Grimson via TKO in the 2nd Round to capture the title. He would actually lose the title to Dragovic in his first defense , before recapturing the title in their Trilogy rematch. He would defend the title a further 2 times in what would be Madness MMA's final event under the banner.

Once again finding himself looking for an org - Boagrius would sign for his 2nd legendary org in the world ... Synchronicity

Boagrius' management was no stranger to Syn , having been the owner of the org at one point in its storied history. Once more , Boagrius immediately found his feet , defeating Dmitri Zaitsev in his debut before challenging Rocket Bob Frankels for the SHW title. After a back and forth first round , Boagrius came out swinging as he instantly connected with a perfect right hand to KO Frankels in 5 seconds of the 2nd round!

With his redemption arc , and his dream of holding the highest prize in MMA , now completed , Boagrius looked to take on all challengers. He actually lost the title in his first defense , as Brad Lansar capitalised on his notoriously weak ground game to take him down and submit him in the first round. Infuriated by this result , Boagrius instantly rematched Lansar and immediately took him to task as he avoided the takedown and connected with a Spinning Back Fist to knock Lansar out cold and recapture the title.

He would compete in only the 2nd Superfight of his career (His fight with Conservative being his first) as he took on SyFi champion Hip Hop at Syn 619 LoL Finals where he dropped him with a KO in the 2nd round.

Boagrius would lose his title once more in his first defence to Rocket Bob Frankels via TKO in the first round. Once more , Boagrius was enraged by this and would be fed Lansar for their trilogy fight in order to earn a title shot. Boagrius would ragdoll him again , as Lansar initiated a clinch but couldn't take the fight down , Boagrius used his size to his advantage to dominate him en route to a First Round KO.

He would not rematch Frankels for the title , instead the man who defeated him , John Smith. Renewed with confidence , Boagrius avoided the majority of Smiths' offense as he displayed an amazing display of Striking Defense while punishing him with strikes to end it via TKO inside 2 minutes.

Once more holding the Syn title , Boagrius would finally defend the title successfully against arguably the most dangerous opponent of his career , former #1 P4P fighter and former HW Champion, Kimbo "Dark Killer" Slice. Boagrius was imperious during the bout , dealing with the majority of Slice's strikes before rushing him with a number of strikes to end the fight at 3:55 of the 1st Round!

The rest of his run was just as impressive, gaining successful title defences against Mark Kerr , Dominic Gotti and Rocket Bob Frankels in their trilogy fight. He would also pick up back-to-back Superfight victories over Gauthier Delsarte and Diarmuid Curr , both of the highly respected Action Jackson camp.

FAR EAST SUCCESS AND RETURN TO GAMMA FOR FAREWELL

Upon his victory over Gotti , there was no competition left in the Syn SHW division. The org decided to merge the division into the HW division , but Boagrius had no intention to drop weight.

As a result , he was a free agent and ended up signing with new organisation Tokyo Rebels. Touted as a marquee signing at the time , Boagrius headlined every event he competed at , capturing the title in his debut against Nicolas Muller , before defeating George Peterson , Gauthier Delsarte once more , and highly respected former #5 P4P fighter Jean Paul Garcon for successful title defences. In his final bout for the org , Boagrius defeated rising star Ross Kemp with a trademark right hand inside the First Round to defend his title once more. Due to a situation involving Tokyo Rebel's owner Rei . , the org closed shortly after this event.

Now heading fast towards the twilight of his career , Boagrius had an array of offers. He felt he had unfinished business however , and resigned with GAMMA once more. He knew he was fighting on borrowed time , having signed for them now at the age of 39, and unfortunately he suffered a devastating KO loss inside the first round to Thierry Paulin having knocked him down earlier in the round.

He would bounce back by scoring a TKO win over Sunray Spike in the 2nd round to earn a title shit , a rematch against Paulin. It would be almost a perfect mirror of the initial fight , as Boagrius once more scored the knock down on Paulin but his aging body couldn't follow up , and he subsequently suffered another loss in the first round due to a KO from Paulin.

Boagrius would suffer consecutive losses for only the 2nd time in his career as he would be knocked out in the first round by Crotch Grabber.

Knowing his time was coming up , and having told GAMMA management of his intention to retire following his current contract , Boagrius would end his career by snapping his losing streak with a victory over Dustin Kruger , before losing to Sunray Spike once more , and capping it off with victory over Zdravko Saric.

Upon his final victory , Boagrius gave a heartfelt speech (it was dubbed over while he mumbled angrily , don't worry) to the fans in attendance before leaving the cage.

Boagrius has achieved much in his career, including;

On a personal note , it was a lot of fun managing Boagrius during his career , even during my long spells of just afk managing and him still winning. I'd honestly say for the past 2 years almost , I haven't changed his sliders once , and unfortunately his training also was not set properly for the same period of time (Literally No Training every day).

Wanna say thanks to Altair The Assassin for making such a monster way back in 2015 , and although it's unfortunate his took time away from the game, seeing how Boagrius had done , I'd say he had a career worth looking back on.

I'll be retiring him soon , and I'll post his hiddens to the relevant thread.

Cheers to all for a great career, and some amazing opponents for that he fought.

I knew the name / face straight away! I founded MMA Gods, his first organisation.

He also made the HOF and my note to him is interesting in hindsight:

Such a throwback and very happy to see you got him to #4 P4P in the world

Looking forward to seeing his hiddens.

Amazing career, one of the best ever.

If I had actually been active and kept up with setting training to avoid depops and set sliders for each fight - He might have gone down as the SHW GOAT. Alas , too many losses and not enough attention paid to the game.

Awesome fighter, awesome write up. Looks like he deserves a CNQR: Legends shirt of his own.

One of the all time great brands with Boagrius part of it? That's up there with HOF inductions honestly - More than happy to have a collaboration if you think he's worthy!

MMA Gods certainly paved the way for Boagrius to climb the ranks and get his name out there. Gotta say , Altair did an incredible job training him and building him up. Speaking of hiddens ....

I'm not surprised at all by the hiddens. I always figured (maybe just cos of stereotypical big guy) he was really low on the Intelligence scale , and I assumed KO Power would be near maxed out. Intelligence and Heart letting him down from having a stupidly high average with 100+ scores in 5/8 categories.

As a nice top off to his career too - He has been officially inducted into the Synchronicity Hall of Fame. Fitting induction seeing as he has the most title wins in SHW history with the org (7).

Also - He is now officially in the Bahamas. Thanks for carrying my rank for 2 years Big Guy.

Never ever have I been hit harder in my life than by this big guy.

And I have been hit with some big stuff in my short career, so this means something.

The guy seemed destined for a good career when he beat me, but he surpassed my expectations by far, job well done!
