  3. TWW News http://i.imgur.com/BawKd7t.png NGF SOLD I first got wind of this when I was approached about buying NGF by Jeff. I never made a formal bid as I figured that Evo, Syn or Ascension would swoop in and take it and well they are better funded than I am at this present time. I wasn’t shall we say shocked when I heard that GEG had bought it but I was surprised when the news came in that they had all chipped in to buy the org. Now I have had varied accounts from players to what is going to happen so I’ll just go for what I think is going to happen. The top talent will be leaving the org and asked to sign to one of the GEG orgs. I wouldn’t be surprised if the full org got merged into these orgs but from what I have gathered they are a few unhappy parties who loved NGF/Immortals and their famous smack talk thread. This poses a problem for GEG who I think will ultimately get a few decent fighters out of this but not all of the ones they wanted. Considering they are 5 I believe orgs in the GEG family it will be interesting to see who goes where and who gets the better deal from it all. If the collective arrangement they have is to help all of the orgs I could see Cage Wars Hilo and Aggro Damage taking the most talent due to their rosters starting to thin out. So why was NGF/Immortals sold, well I will message Steel/Jeff and see if either of them want in interview about it and add it onto this. I am assuming though that it is a commitment thing or lack of time issue with them. To run an org takes an enormous amount of time and effort which in return can leave you burned out. Steel I know does a lot of the trash talk thread and previews so I could see him being a little burnt out with it all. Either way I believe it is a huge hit to the org scene as it is rare to see an org with that sort of trash talk and loyal managers in it. I do however kind of like the idea of it as some of the fighters have never fought the top level talent. Some of the fighters in Immortals are nearing 30 years of age and getting close to declining. I could see orgs such as Evo, Syn, Ascension and even myself taking a run at a few of these guys. As I have stated previously in org mergers it’s a fucking free for all whenever someone is dropped. I’ll also approach Mentor about an interview about this, I was going to when he appeared on chat last night but I was shattered and fell asleep early on. Either way it looks like it could be the end of NGF and a big thanks to Steel and Jeff for making Immortals/NGF a success and a great place to fight in. Undefeated Prospects square off It is rare I will use TWW to promote one of my own fights but I want to kill two birds with one stone, also the fact it is a pretty cool fight. We are going to see Roman Kersikov 14-0 take on Jameson Connemara 17-0. What is rare about this fight is that these two haven’t actually crossed paths prior to this and only have one mutual opponent. I will say that they were an abundance of lighter weight fighters created around the 170-190k mark. Everyone already knows about Loompa who has pretty much laid waste to the featherweight division’s mainstays such as Sly, Lomax and Power. That being said I firmly believe either Roman or Jameson would be a great fight for Loompa and it will be interesting to see if the winner of our fight gets Loompa. So let me start things off talking about Jameson the hard hitting littleman from Klatz’s camp. He is the former UFL champion and current Ascension featherweight champion. Ranked as #1 in the world at featherweight right now (due to Loompa going to Bantamweight), he left UFL to take on challengers from different orgs such as Dominance, Aggro Damage and Vicious Fights. The opponent both guys have in common is another top featherweight prospect by the name of Banas which he won a lopsided decision. He also holds notable wins over journeyman Jake Lamotta and former Ascension featherweight champion James Potkukelkka in which he knocked both men out in the third round. An interesting fact in 17 fights Jameson has only lost 3 rounds in total and in those 3 fights he lost a round he knocked his opponent out. Now onto my own guy Roman Kersikov. He started off fighting at 170 pounds in Vicious fights but no one wanted to face off against him. So he moved down to featherweight and joined Immortals. After a tough first fight in Immortals he then made mincemeat out of the division and took the title. Deciding to move up to lightweight he went to Rising Sun next and once again was dominant taking the belt and successfully defending it twice before dropping back to featherweight to take on the champ. This was Banas again who once again found himself a victim to a lopsided decision. Two interesting facts about Roman is he beat LeFleur one of only 3 fighters ever to beat Loompa. Roman has also only lost 3 rounds in his career to this point. In two out of three of those fights he lost the first round and dominated the rest of the fight. So why should you tune in to see this fight? Well for one it is if my memory serves me right one of the biggest fights between two undefeated fighters in tycoon for a while. Most of the time it is just one guy who is undefeated such as Scotty Bennet, Snake the Pendulum etc. Who do I think wins, well I think I may be a bit biased but I really do think Roman is the best featherweight in the game. Jameson is one of the top guys in the division and has every chance of beating Roman. It really could go either way to be honest. Looking at the guys they have faced Roman has beaten a few top prospects on his way whereas Jameson has stepped up into the big leagues earlier and holds a belt in one of the top orgs. Either way it should be an awesome fight and hopefully on some of your spoiler lists to read it PBP. EVO : Legends The event of the year went down one week ago and we are now just seeing the dust settling on one of the all-time great events in tycoon history. Why is it one of the best events in tycoon history? Well let me give you a run down. Dustin Douglas came back from the brink to defeat Lester Cockenschuff. After being well and truly outclassed for the first three rounds Dustin finally managed to avoid the clinch and in the fifth round with the fight almost over managed to land a big shot and put poor Lester to sleep. I think a rematch should be on the cards after that epic fight Lester proved that he can hang with the big boys and Dustin got his number one trophy. Next up was Rinky Spider vs James Proudstar, in a fight which many thought Proudstar would just add another belt to his already impressive collection; those people were left to look rather silly. Rinky came out like a man possessed and landed the big shots first and wiped out Proudstar in under two minutes to retain his belt. It also got a little bit of revenge for his fallen alliance mate Estefan who took two molly woppings at the hands of Templeton. For Proudstar I assume he is going to go defend some of his belts and try get some revenge in the future. Loompa destroyed Dawkins they were no real surprises there. Valentine pulled off another upset in the rubber match vs Pluto. No doubt however Karter will be asking for a rematch after the split decision victory for Valentine. Binzo’s retirement fight didn’t go to plan as he was knocked out for only the second time in his career by Prijovic. Saint got another one over on Chris Karter when he fought Jose and won via armbar. It is safe to say Joses better days are behind him though. Oath decided to try and put Li through the mat with his very impressive KO via slam which somehow didn’t win him knockout of the night. Tonal vs Womba two started off with Tonal dominating the first round with his stand up as Womba couldn’t get anything going on the ground. In the second round Womba managed to take Tonal down and got into mount. At this point the fans sat and wondered could Womba actually break Tonal’s chin? Womba hit him with big elbows and punches and it all got too much for Tonal who tapped to strikes. Tonal for the first time in his career had been finished by strikes. It sent the fans wild and leaves the two of them tied at 1-1. I doubt however we will see the rubber match. The final two fights of the night included Otso vs Donny in a match-up of two of the best lightweights in the game. Both fighters came out looking to dominate the other but it was Otso who got the upper hand and proved once again he is still a force to be reckoned with. The final fight of the night was Sly vs Power 3 in what is meant to be Powers retirement tour. Sly once again knocked out Power in the second round and left no doubt in the fans minds who is the more dominant fighter of the two. As I said above that is the reason this was the card of the year I could have went into way more depth but looking at the word count of this article and knowing I might need to interview two people I am going to leave it here and maybe do another piece next weekend to fill in the gaps such as the fighters to look out for etc. I also have to ask if anyone is interested in doing a couple of articles for TWW to hit me up. As previously stated all the usual writers are busy at the moment with their final pieces of work for University. The Mentor Interview Dean – So my first question is what made GEG buy NGF? Mentor – Well why not? Jeff enquired about us buying the org and we made an offer which was accepted. NGF is a solid org which has great fighters and managers in it, most of whom I know very well as does the other GEG org owners. Plus I had a great candidate to take it onto the next level. Dean – I agree, it has some great managers in it. Can you disclose how much it cost as I know other top orgs got the same offer you did? I assume it had to have been a hefty price considering the competition. Mentor – No I cannot disclose a figure. All I can say is that it was a good enough offer that they accepted . Dean – So that leads me onto my next point. Various managers have told me different stories about what is going to happen with NGF. Can you tell us what is the actual plan? Mentor – No it will not be merged. We feel like we have the right candidate in Rogelio Cottonfloss to take it to the next level as I have already mentioned. The plan is to move it to the PPV level but the truth is changes will have to be made. We want to maintain the legacy that NGF has left. Rogelio is running the org so a lot will depend on him, I have a lot of faith in him. Dean – Some of the information I was getting last night was that you planned to take some of the top fighters out of NGF and take them to other GEG orgs. Are they any truth to these rumors? Mentor – The only fighters so far that have gotten offers are ones whose current deals expired before we took over. That being said GEG is funding this move and some fighters have outgrown the org and we will have to reduce the roster by 60 fighters to take it to a 1 event per week org. Some people will need to get released anyway. Some could join a GEG org if they wish to do so but no official moves have been made yet. They will get higher wages at these orgs if they do move though. Dean – That was an issue that was raised. A lot of people took mates rates at NGF in order to continue fighting there. Will their pay be raised? Mentor – Yes, as soon as our part of the work beings after the current events expire. Wages will be raised to the levels they are supposed to be. We hope to get this done by the beginning of July as many of the events currently booked will run at a loss due to diminishing returns. Dean – Out of the 60 fighters previously listed how many of them are going to be top level fighters, mid tier fighters and low level fighters? Mentor – I would say about 15ish are going to GEG orgs. These will be split between AD, TTFC and CEC but mostly CEC as they need the most backing plus many managers are closely connected. Dean – Why was the decision made to keep NGF open instead merging it. Like Ascension and UPG for example. Mentor – I respect lineage and history, call me traditional but NGF has a history of raising top talent and I want to keep that going. I am not going to say it will be ID restricted but we want to keep it for younger talent from the ages of 23 plus. Dean – Wouldn’t that directly clash with your GAMMA contenders org? Is this going to be more like a GEG contenders org? Mentor – We still will have the contenders org at GAMMA. I guess you could say it is like that but it isn’t the GAMMA brand. We just hope a lot of the top prospects will end up one day at GAMMA or one of the GEG brands. Dean – Is there a worry that the top orgs will now be approaching the talent asking them to sign with them? Mentor – There is just two orgs which would do that; you and Syn. Dean – Ascension already signed Taco a long time mainstay of NGF and Peels own fighter. Mentor – Taco? He was a free agent? That is not back stabbing he was a free agent he can sign where he wants. I thought you meant fighters on the roster. Dean – So it would be backstabbing in Syn and my part if we were to ask these fighters about moving to us? Mentor – Do you want me to mass mail everyone in your org saying I will triple the pay? Dean – Well how about the ones that are moving? Mentor – It is immoral taking advantage that they have a new org owner. I do not go around telling people hey get a release and I’ll offer you this deal. Dean – So once they are on the free agency then is where you think it is fair game even if they are part of a merge? Mentor – In that case if someone is a free agent you as an org owner have a right to make him an offer. Now if you offer beforehand then I guess it is simply crafty. Dean – One last question that was brought up to me last night if you don’t mind, it was something you said that made me remember this. You argue that it is immoral for big orgs to steal fighters from smaller orgs. Despite the fact you combined 5 top ten orgs to take on individual orgs. . Mentor – 5 top 10? CEC has not been top 10 in ages, CW same and AD is sporadic. Financially orgs such as Asc, Evo and Syn can probably rival all of us put together. Dean – In terms of top 10 talent they were. Dean – How do you answer the claims that GEG and LOD is just not a more successful Steel Penn/Evil Empire? Mentor – This is how we do things in GEG, we try to help each other out. Also why are you putting GEG and LOD in the same basket. 3 of the 5 orgs have nothing to do with LOD and Johnny joined us when his alliance went down. The difference between GEG and any other union is that GEG is a group of individual orgs, which have shown at the regional level a good level of activity, organization and dedication. The reason they joined the alliance is to protect their personal interests which is to keep top level talent in their orgs. GEG was formed as an answer to the “Big 5” block when they started to reject my super fight offers I decided to join up with someone. Peel Steel Interview Dean – Thanks for joining us Steel on what sure must be a heart wrenching decision to let go of NGF. First question I think people want to know is why you decided to sell the org? Steel – Pleasure to be on the show Dean, I have been a fan of TWW for some time. I ran the Immortals and later the NGF for the managers. The ethos was fair fights, never throw a guy under a bus, and let there be an org out there that had regular cards. It was never about the money, as long as we were not going to go broke, I didn't care, and I would put on cards that were not economically viable, just to enable managers to get fights. This all works well when managers don't demand top dollars in pay, and we can continue to sign new talent to keep the roster interesting. But there lies the problem, regular cards equal losses, and we were seriously bleeding cash each event, so we couldn't sign new talent because we would bleed some more. We reached number 10 in the world and some of the top end guys are wanting better money, but with the roster 150+, my ethos contradicts the economics, and it only takes a handful of the top end guys to leave for more money and the others, motivated by the competition will leave because what they require, competition, disappears. An example would be Moyses Mattoss, he had quite a few top guys with us and he wants top end cash, but JLP, Fuse, Krad, Tosen were with me because it was a good org, and had good competition for the guys in their camps. I can run an org how I want to when managers are motivated by competition, but for some, their guy gets some hype and they want the world. So, we were losing money, Jeff had invested 4m in this, and we had 2.5m left from a 6m war chest. The only solution would be to run the org with a smaller roster, and that isn't me. Jeff wants his cash back for his business, so it seemed it was the right time to sell. Dean – Now I know NGF isn’t your baby but Immortals was. What was it like when you first merged Immortals in with NGF and how did the merge come about? Steel – Fernando who owned the NGF with Chad, was part of our alliance and he was getting disillusioned with providing a great product but his champs coming and going to the big orgs, and he could no longer see the point in putting in all the hard work. So we all knew he was unhappy. Then he got racially abused, called a nigger by a well known manager, so he alleged, and he decided to let his VIP go. NGF had been a thorn in my backside for a long time, they signed a lot of great fighters, and they offered a great product, so we went with the idea of a merger, but we merged the Immortals into the NGF because I hedged on the loyalty of the Immortals managers coming with me. To be fair 90% came, more wanted to but they would have got murdered by the roster! The NGF guys who had not heard of me, gave me the benefit of the doubt and it went pretty much perfectly, everyone who we needed to come, came over. Dean – Now I heard that you guys had dropped the ID restriction not too long ago. How much trouble were you having bringing in big fighters to the org? Steel – Lots of trouble, because of the economics. I wanted to keep the roster interesting for the managers who care about competition and the org being reliable, but my offers were scoffed at. It is ignorance on some part with these managers, who want great products out there for their fighters but do not appreciate the trade off. The trade off with the NGF product was cash, and a few can destroy that product because of the chain reaction it causes. Got to say this Dean, can't help myself, but Andy Mugler is the biggest pain in the ass I've come across, definitely should have buyer beware stamped on his money grabbing ass! Dean – You must have had a fair few offers for NGF. What was it that made you accept Mentors offer over the others? Steel – Jeff handled any interactions with potential purchasers, I carried on running the org, I was sad to have to sell, disappointed not only for myself after 2 years of the Immortals and NGF combined, but also for the managers, that appreciated the effort I put in. Given the fact that Jeff had done nothing but snort coke this past 3 months, he felt he was perfectly qualified to handle the sale. Dean – What is it you will miss most about NGF? Steel – Probably everything, I'm thinking about re-launching the Immortals from scratch with the catch phrase, "Crap pay for fair fights". Seriously the Immortals 250k ID Restricted org will launch shortly. So put the word out and if guys want to send me the ID of their fighters now, I will contact them when its set up again. Dean – You were a pioneer in some ways with your smack talk thread. At any stage though did it burn you out with all the write ups you had to do? Steel – The more skilled the roster gets, the harder it became. It was harder with the NGF, as in the Immortals I already knew all the fighters, and there skills sets. I have a good memory for this kind of thing, so I write easy enough. The death of my laptop was a killer also, using an Ipad is shit, so this just compounded the issue. Dean – Well I enjoyed your smalk talk a lot and thought you were very creative. How about coming on TWW every now and again? You can hit us with some of the patter and rip it out of a few fighters you feel who have it coming to them… including my Kersikovs. Steel - Be pleasure, I always planned on organising a city wide parade the day Vlad Kersikov scored a KO, or I managed to stay awake during one of his fights. Seriously though, keep up the good work and thanks for having me on the show. 5. You read the title right, Frank Rizzo is a bitch. He ducked me by hanging out with Kid for a while, then he was busy with the 135 division of Syn. A division of 1 fighter, Over the past month Louis D Palma has ducked both myself and the #1 p4p child toucher Charles Martel. I can no longer watch Louie duck his way out of he beating that he knows he deserves. Shogun Silva was never inducted into the Syndicate HOF, thus making your run in Sydney a sham. Fight me Louie, you know you want it!

  6. Are you gonna cry about this? Really? You threw 61 body strikes from the outside to my 60. Obviously I threw more in the clinch, but that's because my sliders didn't suck. Against LeBlanc you threw 47 body strikes to his 22. Against Nelson, 35 to his 19. Complaining about the game engine and how energy draining works is perfectly valid, but you can take your excuses and your hypocritical high horse bullshit and choke on it. If you act like a good boy I might let you bring your little shit to another playdate with Khalid.

  9. http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/39/39b14.jpg Kira Miyata Q&A Q: Dear martial arts fans today I will pay a visit to a rising star in the featherweight division of London's Umbrella Corporation. Kira "Gaijin" Miyata was born in Japan, but his parents came from America. Therefore the Japanese always considered him a foreigner aka gaijin. After years of bullying by local yankees which are Japanese delinquents he started training in Judo. After winning a few street fights he decided he was ready to fight professionally. Kira you've started out your career with a 4 fight winning streak which resulted in a title fight. In that title fight you got dominated, do you think you got that title shot too early and do you regret taking that fight? Kira: Eventhough I do think it was a little too early for me to challenge the champ, it was a fair fight so I accepted it and it was a great learning experience so it wasn't a complete loss. Q: After that you alternated between wins and losses and it culminated in a 3 fight losing streak. Did you ever think about retirement? Kira: Absolutely, those were dark days and I needed some light to guide me back to where I knew I belonged. That light turned out to be the owner of the Umbrella Corporation. Igor Byhenikov simply stated the facts, he reminded that yes I did get beaten a lot but I was facing elite competition, I never got knocked out and I was only finished once. So I took his advice, I picked myself up dusted myself off and got ready for my next fight. Q: You're now on a 3 fight winning streak so that means the dark days are over now, right? Kira: For light to exist there must be darkness. When you're in a period of light you must enjoy it to the fullest because you never know when the darkness will return. When you're in a period of darkness you must remain hopeful that light will return soon. Q: There is wisdom in your words, Miyata-san arigatou (thank you) for this interview. Kira: Dou itashi mashite. (you’re welcome)

  11. UFC - 001Jay vs Butler Review The 17th of May, Unleash FC entertained 1951 fans in attendance at Hayashi’s Lounge Tokyo, how did it unfold, read on. All of the fights were excellent and none went to the judges hands, it was a great night of MMA. Adlan Amagov vs. Aiden “Angry” August 170lbs August started off well, he landed the cleaner strikes while Amagov failed to do much damage. Amagov stuffed a few of Augusts takedowns and secured the clinch but failed to do much damage with it. He then broke the clinch and quickly secured it, keeping August guessing. August secured a good takedown. August then showed good accurate punches and elbow on the ground eventually forcing the ref to pull him off a beaten Amagov. Result: August via TKO Shun "Rolling Thunder" Masaru vs. King Typhaze 185 lbs Typhaze was clearly winning the stand up, he managed to cut Masaru before foolishly getting a clinch, Masaru pulled guard and his superior ground game allowed him to get a nice triangle choke, it took him a while to secure it but eventually tightened it so Typhaze tapped out. Result: Masaru via submission Bobby “Beats” Brown vs. “Gentle” Jack Byrne 265lbs Brown quickly got a clinch on Byrne, but boy was that a huge mistake as Byrne landed 99% of his stikes in the clinch, cutting Brown open and blood pouring all on the white floor. Punching, kneeing, elbowing eventually got too much for Brown and he succumbed to the vicious assault. Result: Byrne via TKO Heishiro "Katana" Mitsurugi vs. Matti Veijamo 185lbs Now, I received some heat for my misspelling of Mitsurugi’s name previously so I will refer to him as Katana. Katana already had a win over Veijamo and I thought he would use the same tactics to win again. The only fight of the night to go more than 1 round and it wasn’t exactly thrilling. Katana effectively won the 1st round win good clinch control but likely gassing himself out with many missed knees to the body of Veijamo. Round 2 looked like it would be the same but late on Veijamo broke the clinch and hit a three punch combo that had Katana on wobbly legs and one punch and some ground and pound, the ref had seen enough. Veijamo got revenge for hus previous loss and possibly set up a rubber match down the line. Result: Veijamo via TKO Roy Li-Taylor vs. Chao “Chao Chao” Ming 265lbs A very poor fight. Ming wanted to clinch which he did but did little once in the clinch, Li-Taylor then pulled guard and worked for two submission before finally locking up an armbar. NEXT! Result: Li-Taylor via submission Matt Keelock vs. Lord “The King” Susanoo 185lbs Susanoo had a lot of trouble getting the fight to the floor and Keelock teed off on him. 1 minute in he rocked Susanoo badly and one huge punch later Susanoo was face down on the canvas. Great KO by Keelock. Result: Keelock via KO "The Transman" Ellen Littlejohn Wilson Greenbaum Hagler vs. "Croc Boy" Shintaro Nomo 170lbs Hagler faked high and shot in low for a takedown around 30 seconds in and but Nomo proved too much on the ground as he switched for one submission to another eventually sweeping Haagler and getting a kimura for the W. Result: Nomo via sub Dark Vengeance vs. Buan Chaka 205lbs Vengeance proved no match for Chaka as he got no offence in before Chaka got a takedown and went for submission after submission, almost out of energy Chaka managed to, on his 14th attempt, to get an armbar from top position. Result: Chaka via submission John Mahoney vs. Trevor Reznick 205lbs Reznick bum rushed into the clinch and defended 6 takedown attempts while smashing Mahoney’s face with good punches, eventually forcing yet another stoppage for the referee. Result: Reznick via TKO Juicy Jay vs. Nigel “Checkmate” Butler 265 lbs The main event was over before it began. Jay, the champion at 265lbs but not defending his belt, hit the legs and body of Butler with kicks, before going to the head with a flying knee knocking butler out cold in less than 30 seconds. Is there anyone that can stop Jay after his 11th win in 11 fights, all by KO? Result: Jay via KO

  21. Hello JLP, GSP, shortfuse, and other concerned managers who have found NGF to be a stellar home for their fighters, First of all, primarily due to conversations (via messages not in chat) with shortfuse and Mannetosen, I have learned of and understand the real hesitance (okay, as you will see, I use weaker words than some do in their communication styles) to be involved with certain GEG groups. Once again, I do understand these concerns and know that while many will try to avoid expressing animosity towards me specifically, there may be certain challenges in interaction due to my mere association with LOD and GEG orgs. Second, NGF will continue. I am working on a statement*** I will likely send out shortly to managers. However, I wanted to see if there was any activity here not specifically fight related before I do so. Hence, I write now. Third, I suppose I should indeed say hello. The concerns about some top talent leaving turn out to be legitimate. However, to say NGF will be merely run as a Contenders org is probably misleading as well. In part because we recognized we landed on a top 15 org and in part because I was informed of the demise that has come to previously well-run orgs after a merger that has involved GEG groups, we will take a different approach. This approach will probably be best to avoid the heavy decline I have been told has happened in previous mergers/takeovers. However, it is not without its own challenges and potential disruptions as well. We may actually slim the roster down to less than 100 fighters. We will likely transition to running one event a week that will hopefully be at a PPV level. With that being said, I do want to be forthright that about 2 dozen fighters have been identified to potentially go to one of four GEG groups. Also, a slimming down of roster may mean parting with lower p4p fighters that have enjoyed being part of the NGF/Immortals family (and even GAMMA:Contenders). So, yes, top talent will initially be sent to GEG orgs as they helped pay for this purchase. So, shortfuse is technically right that NGF will not be the same org if some talent is leaving. Taking this approach may in the end mean we are indeed relegated to being a Contenders like org. However, the goal is to take the remaining talent and grow with it so as to continue to put out a top product. I realize a studied person who reads this may feel I express a bit of naivete. And you may not be entirely wrong in your assessment. (For example, I was fortunately told about the difficulty of running PPV if the GEG orgs run away with my top talent). However, while there are unique challenges that are present (including teh financial ones), I do believe we can work towards allowing NGF to remain a stellar org. And, since shortfuse took the time to identify that I seem like a pretty stand-up guy, I will acknowledge here that he was willing to respond when I asked him to enlighten me on the politics and other dynamics involved that had led to him (and possibly others) being ready to abandon ship. Alright, I have to spend time working on the first official announcement from that new management team. :-) Blessings to you all in real life and in the mmatycoonverse Rogelio Cottonfloss *** The statement above I am referring to will be constructed after input from Mentor Guruland on suggestions of what to say whereas what I have written here is my simple response to the above three posts and what I have discerned from certain interactions the past few days.

  25. http://i937.photobucket.com/albums/ad217/scorneternal/mmahourrazin.jpg Stepan Razin: Tso doesn't understand the danger he's in. Russian contender, Stepan Razin, stopped by The MMA Hour on Monday to speak with Ariel Helwani about life on The Island and his upcoming title fight with the IFF heavyweight champion, Zongtang Tso. Helwani was in typical form, reading a quote from Tso's recent interview with Billy Sanders, and stoking the fire between the two titans. Razin, who is known for his stoic demeanor, responded to Tso's threat to "knock his head off his shoulders" with this; "His wrestling doesn't scare me, his striking is like a little child. Tso doesn't understand the danger he is in. He is cautious and boring fighter. I will force him to fight me like a man. And he will quit. I am better fighter. I am soon champion." Razin also said that after the season tournament is over, he is still not sure if he will return to Russia and retire or continue his MMA career. "That depends on the money," Stepan said with a smirk. Razin and Tso are set to clash on May 17th under the IFF banner at Hayashi's Lounge. IFF - Tso V Razin

  31. Let's try and keep on topic of fight scoring, not different rulesets etc. When we have different off topic things going on, I start skim reading and might miss something on fight scoring. OK, so reading through this thread; 1. The system proposed is pretty much how it works now anyway, just with waaaaaaay too much variation. For example, you can have one big shot that counts for 20 normal strikes or whatever. There's just far too much variation based on damage, being tired etc, that I genuinely don't think it's "tweakable" as it would end up just as messy after the tweaks as it is now. Messy is the best description I can come up with and I think if you guys saw the current system next to the proposed one, you'd pretty much all prefer the proposed one. 2. Takedown or sub scoring. Please don't read it as +10 in the example. As someone else mentioned, that's for a very, very close to finishing sub attempt, which would rightly score highly. I don't mind reducing that slightly but to have the sub range from 1-3 points would be really daft because then a very close sub attempt would score the same as one and a half GNP shots. I am more than happy to decrease the max score per sub attempt or takedown as the fighter throws the 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc per round. 3. That brings me on to the "we should fix the fight engine first before scoring". I don't see why it matters which way round we do it. If anything, I think it makes more sense to do the scoring first. If you make scoring match real life, then people are going to clamour to make the fight engine itself more realistic. Sounds great to me. If we "fix" the fight engine first, we could be "fixing" it towards people's personal preferences, then we'd have to "fix" the fight scoring towards the same personal preference. I think that way around makes a lot more sense and is open to manipulation from the vocal members of the community.... So again, if we score it like real life, then that will provide a foundation for future game engine tweaks to make everything more and more realistic. 4. I think if I'd put this scoring into place without telling you, nobody would have noticed and you'd just think there weren't as many stupid decisions anymore N.B. I didn't have a score set for knockdowns, so that could be +10 or something.

  34. Constant changes wouldn't really work either tbh. This game has had man different engines over the years. Everything from 100 counter to body gassing, to leg kick and sub-spammers in the early years. The guys who have a philosophical understanding of how the engine works are always going to be able to adapt to any changes that get made. That's why I don't get all wrapped around the axle on these threads. I let my opinions be heard and then I usually will sit back and let it play out and then just start scouting fights until I think I have a grasp on the new engine. Guys like LT, CK and others who have a grasp on the engine will always be able to evolve w/ it and find success to the highest degree. I am not really sure why the discussion has turned into a "types of judges" discussion. I think that's kinda lame if I'm being honest and would hate to see orgs be able to pick their types of judges. I would probably avoid staying in orgs full-time altogether if that were to happen and just pick & choose super-fights as a I float around a FA. I still stand by my earlier statements that changing the scoring before fixing certain engine things is a bit futile. If changes are made to the engine, it could change everybody's mind about this discussion. It might not, it might just reinforce these ideas but in the past I feel that pretty big engine changes have changed the landscape a little bit. In my personal opinion, this is the closest we've ever been to having a well-rounded and decent engine. Certain era's, specifically 100 counter and body gas were just utterly awful and this game was swayed towards being more of a kick-boxing game then an MMA game for a long time. The last engine changes w/ counter TD and stuff really changed the landscape and made grapplers relevant but it also probably made them a tad over-powered (& this is coming from 1 of the bigger advocates for the ground game). There are some who will say that counter TD made it that way, that is not my personal belief. I think the ground game being broken is what makes all of it seem more over-powered then it probably is. Being able to keep a 25 minute fight on the ground 50% of the fight while landing 7 total strikes and throwing 14 (as in my example above) is the biggest issue behind all of this in my PERSONAL opinion. If time didn't just mysteriously disappear at a ridiculously rapid rate when the fight hit the ground, strikers would have more time to work it back to the feet and still have enough time in the round left to be able to steal the round back w/o having to throw crazy damage to score points and leave yourself wide open to counter TD. Why do you all think DMG is so over-powered right now as well? The reason is because everybody came to the realization that it's very difficult to stop counter TD. A counter TD to side-control can take 3-4 mins of a round away (even when only 2 or 3 strikes land) then the only chance you have winning that round is to either go crazy aggression and land an assload of strikes in the 1 minute the fight stays standing.....OR make sure that the few strikes you DO land are doing a SIGNIFCANT amount of damage. ALL of these issues are related but people want to just pick out the parts they don't like and blame it on that so that changes can be made that suit them or their fighters. THIS is the issue that we have been fighting for ages. Whoever has the loudest group of complainers gets their way so that Mike can please his customer base. Hopefully for once we'll get it right and look at the thing as a whole, and not just the parts that we want to bitch about. Alright....now hopefully I am really done in this argument. I have no fear that I'll be able to adapt to whatever Mike decides to roll w/ I just hope we don't end up w/ too terrible of an engine/scoring sytem at the end of all this.

  35. Second round Davidson: Takedown to side, maybe 4 hitted gnp from side, improve to side and sub attemp. Was over 3 minutes on top this round. Block: takedown to guard, improve to half guard and about 3 gnp from guard. Davidson won second imho. Block really won that whole fight and even commentator scored 29-28 for him and said "I think Block has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say." Maybe just bad judges.

  36. Just because of Jebba's post I think Mike should send out a PM to every user explaining that there is changes being done to the scoring and have a link to this thread so we can get the opinions of those who dont always post on the forums. This has already been a great discussion and there are a lot of factors for Mike to think about. Obviously the scoring is an issue and needs an update, but I think everyone not just the forum users should get a chance to state their opinions. I talk to two other managers in RL and they dont use the forums or go to the forums for anything so those two have no idea whats going on with this. This will be a major change and it will affect everyone. I know off topic sort of but I think that it would help.

  37. So I've been playing the game for a few years now, though I rarely make board posts. I agree that tweaking the current system is a better option then puting a whole new one in place. Although I seem to be in the minority here, I am absolutely opposed to having the judges be biased toward certian styles. Is it more realistic, probably. But inconsistent judging is one of, if not the biggest issue in real MMA today. Do we really want to recreate the screwed up parts of real MMA in the game or have a game where that BS doesn't happen (as often at least). Posting the judges biases the day of the fight is still problematic because of the world wide nature of the game. If my fight is at 6am my time and the bias isn't posted until the night before I may not even have a chance to adjust. I like to set my sliders a week or so out and make adjustment once closer to the fight so if things come up in RL I at least still have a strategy set even if I can't log on the day or two before a fight. As for the ground game, I am speaking as someone who likes ground fighters. the +10 for attempted subs is WAY to high. I could probably be accused of spamming subs in some of my fights, but that is because I HATE decisions. Trying hard to finish on the ground shouldn't be penalized; I don't understand why being very aggressive on the feet should be praised, but the same level of aggression on the ground be looked down on! I think there should be differentiation between threating with a sub and an actual attempt. As it is throwing your legs up for a triangle is viewed the same whether you lock it in and really go for it, or if you throw them up and they just get shrugged off. I don't think threating with a sub should get many points, but an actual attempt, even if it is defended should be scored more than it is now. Other than real sub attemps, I agree with, I think it was Mentors comment, that attempts in general shouldn't be counted much. As for spamming subs, this brings me back to the difference between threats and attempts. High level grapplers, in RL MMA, may only really go for a couple of attempts per round, but they threaten with many more. threatening with a sub can make an opponent have to adjust which can open other opportunities. It doesn't take much energy as they aren't really putting much into it, unless the chance to really sink it in comes. As for takedowns. a successful takedown should be scored in conjunction with how long dominant position is maintained or how much damage is done once the fight is on the ground. This will lower the incentive to try and win decisions with a bunch of takedowns and nothing else. Over all I think on the feet/clinch damage should be the main factor in scoring, but on the ground it should be balanced with positional control and actual sub attempts.

  38. I will probably get ripped for this, but I think there should also be a reward for time spent in a dominant position on the ground. Like it or not, simply being on top, especially in a position past the guard, wins you points in the eyes of the judges, even if you aren't doing much with it. I'm sure a lot of people don't want to encourage lay and pray simply they don't like to watch it, but it is a real life strategy that can win fights, even if it isn't exciting to watch. As for whether we redo everything or tweak, I tend to favor tweaking. Like many have said, a brand new system could create more unforeseen problems than it fixes. As it currently stands, I think the standup is completely fine and only the ground game needs tweaking.

  39. Please don't slaughter me for this !!!! I'm new to the game and don't have a clue what I'm doing... but I have a mentor who is great... Could an issue be that the old timers of the game just know it too well and can look at pretty much any fighter then train and sort sliders to win? That they have systems set up which they KNOW work? That aside... "styles make fights" and it would be good for matchmakers to have access to extra stats which will allow them to match more effectively, Then its up to the manager to work it out. I don't have much of a clue about the game, but I know object orientated programming to an advanced level. This game is HUGELY complex... and I'd love just a little peek at some of the code to shake my head in bewilderment. So my opinion (and as I said... please don't slaughter me) is that changes need to be made regularly to keep the game fresh and keep everybody on their toes... and remember guys... (maybe I'm wrong) but ultimately this site is a business and things need to be done regularly to keep it profitable. I'll sit back now and wait for a torrent of abuse....

  40. I'm just not convinced these changes to scoring are necessary. I agree there should be some engine changes to address takedown spammers and sub spammers etc but I dont see how the scoring is going to improve by giving more points to weak and even failed shots. I think judging based on damage is the best possible system. Yea it will piss people off when the outstrike their opponent by 20+ strikes every round and lose but they are idiots for going 90% accuracy...
