After taking some time out following the closure of Generation, I've decided that the best place for me to sign was Ascension. I could have signed with some lower level org and padded my record fighting bums, but what kind of career choice would that be?

I like how the org has been looking lately, and I am looking forward to working with the management team of the org and displaying my ability in an Ascension cage in the near future.

Ascension official heavyweight rankings

 

Champ: Robbie Luatua

Luatua has been on point during his Ascension run, going 7-0 with 7 knockouts. No opponent has even managed to get out of the 2nd round against this monster. The heavy handed Kiwi faces perhaps his greatest Ascension challenge yet January 21st vs Mitir Miric.

 

1. Mitir Miric

Miric had a stunning Ascension debut as he dispatched Lucas Lodano with a superman punch early in the second round. Miric is a slick striker with a decent chin and bone crushing power. He hasn't been in the cage with a beast like Luatua yet, making this the most highly anticipated HW match in recent Ascension history.

 

2. Maurice Vontavious Payne

MVP returns from an impressive Olympics run that fell just short of medalling but reinforced his status as a up and comer to watch. The fight against Makerenko was an instant classic in the running for fight of the year.

 

3. Lucas Lodano

Ludano came from the now defunct MFN organization, where he regularly faced stiff competition. Lodano has heavy hands and much more experience then the rest of the rather young HW division. He ran into a buzzsaw in Miric in his debut, but still has the skills to make an impact in Ascension.

 

4. Cederick Frederic

"The Wrecker" came up short in his title shot against Luatua but is still a dangerous young fighter with tons of potential. The former PFC fighter features heavy hands and an impressive killer instinct. Cedrick will need to rack up a couple of wins to get another title shot, but it appears inevitable.

 

5. Dexter Santaros

Santaros is perhaps the most under the radar contender in the HW division. With a lifetime 6-2 record in Ascension, Santaros has had an impressive run in the organization. As the smallest of the contenders and lacking the finishing power of most HW's, Santaros is often overlooked but is always a dangerous opponent.

Champion: Shogun Iron Tyson

The "a Ferocious Fighter" has been just that since he returned to Ascension to defend his title. He

Went 4-0 in the org and left to compete in the Olympics, returning with a bronze medal and international renown. Shogun is now waiting for the winner of the title eliminator between Crane and Pamaus later this month.

 

1. Ichabod Crane

"The Hessian " has been on a tear since being stopped by the champ in September. He has reeled off four straight wins over impressive competition. He has already earned a title shot, but one more hurdle is there to be cleared in Aimo Pamaus.

 

2. Aimo Paimus

Paimus has been perfect in his brief stint in Ascension, going 3-0 with submission wins over Erick Clap and Pedro Lopez. He's one win away from his first title shot in the org but draws a tough opponent in Crane. It has been confirmed that Shogun will be ringside at the fight.

 

3. Edward Scissorhands

Scissorhands has had mixed results at ascension, but there is no denying the talent. Edward has only lost to the top guys in the 145lb division but is a championship calibre fighter. Scissorhands needs to string together a couple of wins to get back to that level but there is no doubt that he is capable of doing so.

 

4. Erick Clap

"The Tornado " came into the organization with some hype and the skills to back it up despite his young age and relative inexperience. That showed in his fight vs Pamaus when he stumbled into a guillotine. Up next is a huge test against the dangerous a EPL veteran Ricardo Monteban.

 

5. Ricardo Monteban

Monteban is a deadly grappler with 15 sub wins to his credit. Like Scissorhands, he only loses to the top guys and has never been an easy out. Undoubtedly he doesn't want to be seen as a gatekeeper so he will have all the motivation in the world to turn back Clap in their upcoming battle.

Today, Ascension MMA held Special half hour press conference in Las Vegas as huge news was promised.

 

Speculation had it that Long time Ascension Featherweight Champion Shogun Iron Tyson was looking for Superfights, and newly crowned Bantamweight Champion Pao Had just won a split decision win over Vincent Oketch to defend his title for the first time. Tyson was in th audience during this fight and was visibly cheering for Pao to win, as they had trained together very shortly ago and had grown an apparent friendship, but Pao seemed to want more than a friend. After the fight, Pao told 2 media sources that he wants to respectfully fight Shogun Iron Tyson and take his belt.

 

When Tyson's camp found out about this, they were very upset, a tweet from Canadian Elite Bruins Gym coach and former fighter Ni Hao read,

 

"This slimy motherfucker Pao wants to learn from us and then come fight us after we gave you the skills an knowledge to win that title.. Won't happen, keep dreaming. You're not on our level."

"Shogun Iron Tyson went absolutely insane the other day, he came into my office with his manager and they were both very upset. Shogun said "I'm going to punish this little boy for calling me out, I got a fucking family to feed and this guy wants to come up in weight and take my shit? After he learns from me and my team, this guy is dead, don't you dare let him back out, he's fucking dead." So A bunch of shit happens between them since and the Burns Camp is telling me Pao wants out now, I didn't know what was going on but both guys told me they want to fight so I'm putting it together."

 

Pao only spoke briefly and looked very tentative, while Tyson was very vocal that he's not impressed but thinks Pao is a tough guy and after they fight they may be friends again someday.

 

Pao said at one point to an English translator "I'm not here to piss anyone off, I just assumed Tyson wanted a great fight, I'm humble, I'm humble and I will honour my team by fighting the best.."

 

Tyson responded by saying "I texted his manager Bjorn and told them that this is the worst mistake of Pao's life, he's going to get clinchraped and knocked the fuck out, he isn't on my level, I just won an Olympic Medal while he's still a kid. I told Bjorn he's gonna get his boy killed. But he has faith in Pao which is good and made Pao's head so big he runs his mouth so much he can't get out of this now."

You are a great champ and I respect you a lot. I am fully aware that I'll need the best version of myself to possibly be able to beat you.

I am training very hard and have faith in the wise words ' hard work pays off'.

I am not an angry person at all, as I have learned the healing effects of calmness.

Champion: Ossilus Chiaramanda

All the Tajiki striking specialist does is win close fights lately. The former KT world champion has made a career out of dragging his opponents into the deep waters and taking close decisions. His one Ascension loss was a close decision loss to as he challenged title holder Kirk st. Lazarus. His most recent defense was a contentious decision win over Kuchar .

 

1. Matt Kuchar

Kuchar came up just short of taking the strap from Chiaramanda this evening in London. The closeness of the fight made it awfully hard for Ascension brass to drop him in the rankings, although rumor has it that he needs another high profile win before he steps into the cage with Chiaramanda again.

 

2. Dominik Kokoszaka

"The Crusher" was turned back in his first attempt at wresting the title from Chiaramanda but the youngster's impressive 5-1 record in Ascension keeps him at the top of the lightweight heap. He faces veteran Alfredo Barbossa at 0128.

 

3. en Sabah Nur

A four fight winning streak has "Apocalypse " entering the top 5 for the first time. Nur got a late start to his mma career, but has been impressive in his limited number of fights. The black belt has even started falling in love with striking and shown a natural proclivity to it, KO'ing three of his last four opponents. He faces Mystery Perfect at 0204.

 

4. Ashton Eaton

Bar none, Eaton is one of the most accomplished grappler in the Ascension lightweight divisions. "Slick" loves to take his fights to the mat and resolve the fight there. All five of his fights in Ascension have ended in submission. Four in favor and one against. His next appearance will be against Clarence McGee at 0204.

 

5. Kukulcan Tonga

Tonga made his name as a striker in Legacy, Infinity, and Canadian FC orgs. He's held his own in these orgs against guys who went on to become mma stars. tonga never broke through, but with a change in management he's looking to do just that in Ascension. Tonga faces a tough test in his Ascension debut vs Kuchar.
