SUCKER PUNCH PREVIEW

Sucker Punch Pro Series 233

Howdy folks!  Hare Rumpler here along with my buddy and colleague, Donkey “Dan”, as we get set for an exhilarating SPPS 233 in London today!  If the Wombley is a rockin’, and it will be, well…um…you just gotta get over there!  Or something like that.  Haha!

Tonight’s big fight will be the Featherweight Title Fight between challenger Lemmy Bang…who won the belt back in December but lost it in his first defense…and the man who took the belt back to reclaim the title for himself, Jihadi Joseph!  This is Joseph’s third go at holding the title and he’s hoping that three times is a charm and that this will be a successful title defense, something that has eluded him to this point.  I doubt Bang plans to make that an easy task!

Other big action, pun definitely intended, will give us the return of the Parta Party as Parta Matti and Ronan Darongo get at it in the Co-Main Event this evening. This is a Top Contender battle and will set one of them up for a title fight in late March.  Granted, we don’t know who will hold the title by then as there will be two Heavyweight title fights between now and then, but hey, they know they’re up in the batting order!  Well, one of them will be at least.

Other great fights include Rahman and Capac at Welterweight…a fight that will put one of them just a step or so away from a Top Contender fight of their own…and Knox and Lehto, two talented Heavyweights who are each trying to bounce back from disappointing losses in their last outings.  Besides all that, you’ve  got the evening starting with Lightweights with Pablo and Anti getting at it, some more Heavyweight action in the second fight at Outlaw and Krol both try to get on the right track and move forward and back up the ladder, lots of Welterweight action with Benny versus Lankinen and Andonian and Queen all getting in there to mix it up and even more beyond that.  But let’s leave all that detail to the fight discussions below…because we have to cover a new development here…

And that new development is the introduction of a new merchandise partner!

f624d757353f78e31e2c19c1f236e5ff.png

Yes folks, Sucker Punch Pro Series has finally teamed up with Ma Balls Is Hot Clothing, the absolute amazing clothing line that has been the go-to for any fighter who wants to get in there in style…and boy, could any brand be more appropriate for Sucker Punch Pro Series than this?!?  I mean, we’ve had so many low shots and dingle –dangle stingers over the last few cards that if one thing is clear, our fighters’ balls being hot would be an understatement!  So, get over there, get the best threads in the business folks!  And check out there stands at the Wombley tonight if you’re going to be there for it all live! Guarantee you won’t leave without a new set of digs that’ll have you super excited to get to the gym!

Now, let's get to it!

Undercard Bout #1: Lightweights

Anti Half Assed v Pablo Itzpapalotltotec

Alright folks, we’ll get things going here with some Lightweight action but I have to tell you, I’m disappointed.  I shouldn’t be, I should be used to this by now, especially with our Undercard fighters, but Half Assed comes into the fight this evening with his morale about half. That’s not good, and I know exactly who Donkey will pick for in this one given that issue.

What makes things even more disappointing with Half Assed (appropriate name I think here, given the situation) is that he’s coming off a streak where he’s only won one fight in his last four trips to the cage. You’d think he’d want to put his best foot forward but apparently that’s just not his style!  He’s heading to the cage with a new manager this evening, Aleksey Markov, but it’s likely that a loss here would be his last with us at SPPS.

Pablo is a former Top Contender in the Lightweight division who came storming into Sucker Punch but then ran into Frankie Logan when he earned a shot at the title.  That fight almost seems to have completely shattered Pablo’s confidence, as he’s struggled to get back to the form he had prior to that fight. Damn it Logan, you broke this man!!!  He’s currently on a 1-4 streak with that win sandwiched by pairs of losss.  He needs to find a way to win here, and if there was ever a fight that was being handed on a silver platter, this is it!

Donkey’s Pick: Itzpapalotltotec via Unanimous Decision

No explanation needed here really.  Half Assed has arrived just that, half assed, and is not prepared for this fight.  A loss for Pablo would be shocking to be honest.

Undercard Bout #2: Heavyweights

The Devils Outlaw v Zygmunt Krol

Alright!  Now this is what I want to see!  Even with an early Undercard fight, it’s a chance to move up the ladder and these two clearly get that as they’ve both come to the cage with energy pumped up, morale in the right place, and a focus on getting a win!  Nice.

Krol will have small, and I do mean very small, advantages in boxing and wrestling this evening.  I don’t think that’s going to make the difference here.  I think strategy and determination will factor in much more heavily!  The only issue I foresee?  Krol has lost his last three prior to this fight and I don’t necessarily believe it’s his fault.  His manager has more or less been away most of the time lately and I think that’s left Krol to figure things out on his own most of the time.  Without really solid game planning, he’s floundered a bit.  We’ll see if maybe things have changed here heading into this one…and if they have we might get a highlight reel KO!...but it’s been disappointing to see a guy who was in line for a potential title fight have the opportunity slip away to the point where he’s in the second fight of the evening.

Outlaw found his way back to the win column last month with a gasp inducing head kick KO to finish Drew Barnes!  That gasp heard by the crowd has to be a breath of fresh air for Outlaw and his camp because he’d come into that fight on a three fight losing streak.  Maybe this is the opportunity he needs to get in there, bang it out with another power striker, grab a win and start trekking up the ladder?  I’d love to see this turn into a ‘Fight of the Night’ candidate this evening!

Donkey’s Pick: Outlaw via KO (Strikes)

I just can’t put my faith in Krol being led to victory until I see his manager is fully invested and involved.  So for now the nod has to be given to Outlaw. But whoever wins, I do expect it to be via (T)KO long before it ever gets to those dirty judges!

Undercard Bout #3: Welterweights

D.C. Benny v Nova Lankinen

A very closely matched contest here between Welterweights Lankinen and Benny.  Lankinen is off about 10% on morale, which could come into play, but likely won’t be the primary factor in this one.  He holds a slight edge in Muay Thai but gives up the same in wrestling to Benny.

A change of management heading into the fall last year definitely benefitted Lankinen as he’s lost four in a row under prior management up to that point.  That said, it’s still been a back and forth ordeal for him since then, without the ability to string two wins together as he’s gone 2-3 under current management.  If the trend holds, it’s a win tonight and likely via KO finish.  I don’t believe in trends like that btw.

Benny has been going through almost mirror scenario since changing managers last fall as well.  He’s  3-2 over his last five and has been alternating between wins and losses also.  He’s coming in off a win over Queen, so again, if we go by trends this should be a win for Lankinen and a loss for Benny.  Meh.  Trend, shmend!  Benny will look to avoid the power shots from Lankinen and either win this via submission on the ground or get it to the judges for a decision in his favor. I’m thinking decision, but we’ll see what Donkey has to say!

Donkey’s Pick: Benny via Submission (Kimura)

It’s been a while since Benny’s had a nice fancy submission and perhaps he gets it tonight along with a nice bonus for it as ‘Sub of the Night’?  He better watch out for those hands of Lankinen’s though, those things are very….VERY…dangerous!

Undercard Bout #4: Light Heavyweights

Cruzeiro vs. Bolt II

Julio Cruzeiro v Ryan Bolt

I usually like to see a little bit better preparation by this point of the Undercard but our first set of Light Heavyweights this evening both come to the cage about 10% off on morale this evening.  That should offset and have no impact upon the results though I’d think.

Bolt has the advantage in Jiu Jitsu with a black belt over Cruzeiro’s brown.  Outside that, he gives up just a tiny bit of boxing skill, but not much. Like many of our fighters on the Undercard, he’s struggling to maintain momentum and direction and is 1-2 under his current management team.  But here’s the biggest issue for our man Bolt…his last three losses have all come via doctor stoppage due to cuts.  Ouch!  Yeah, not good to have that development come on later in a career.  It was kinda ironic that his only win over his last four fights has been by dishing out the damage for cuts as well though!

Cruzeiro recently jumped camps from the Crazy Horse team to Team Tran.  A loss to Wille Thai via submission marred that new start but there’s probably an adjustment period needed to get used to things with a new camp.  He’d been on a nice three fight winning streak prior to that.  His wins have historically come via TKO’s or decisions but this is the second meeting between he and Bolt.  I’m expecting it may go similarly to the first although we’re hoping that the change of management team for Bolt and Cruzeiro also mixes things up a bit!

Donkey’s Pick: Cruzeiro via TKO (Cuts)

I believe that Hare’s hopes and dreams for a different outcome, or at least for direction of this fight to be different, is wishful thinking at best.  Bolt has shown a disturbing trend to bleed of late and until I see that go away (unlikely) I have to have concerns every time he steps into the cage unless it’s against a submission specialist.

***********************

Undercard Bout #5: Welterweights

Garik Andonian v Cyrus Deangelo Queen

A very disappointing loss for Queen to Benny last month kept him from moving into a Top Contender battle this month and being one step away from a potential title shot.  You have to figure that has him burning inside as he prepares to step into the cage for this Welterweight showdown with Andonian tonight!

Both men are highly prepared for this battle and Donkey and I love that!  Queen has the ground advantage with the better skillset for both wrestling and Jiu Jitsu. Both come to the cage with comparable records but Andonian boasts a bit more experience. At just about the same height and weight, minus a couple centimeters for Andonian, these two are so well matched!

Although Queen will have the ground advantage…and he does love his nasty ground and pound…it’s foolish for any opponent to focus on stopping takedowns without also looking out for the hands and feet which can come flying in at any moment from Queen. He’s just as successful in standup, so he brings a dual threat to the cage.

Andonian has been struggling and very much needs to turn things around this evening.  Last month was his SPPS debut but it was spoiled by a TKO from Capac late in the second round.  Prior to that, he’d taken two losses to Perkele just a week apart at 300 Fighting Championship.  That sounds like an address rather than the name of a promotion!  Anyways, both of those fights ended the same way…smelling salts for Andonian.  Why back to back fights?  Who knows, maybe he couldn’t remember the first one due to the KO…in which case, he may not remember the second either!  Somebody put that man through a concussion protocol!

Donkey’s Pick: Queen via TKO (Strikes)

Andonian lives and dies by the KO. Obviously Hare has indicated that Andonian may have a marshmallow for a head at the moment…and frankly I think he’s indicted himself as the owner of this org.  How do you let a man step into the cage for your promotion without going through proper medical clearances Hare?!? If he comes in stumbling and bumbling tonight from the first shot taken, it’s on you man! Concussions are no joke.  Well, they can be, but…well, nevermind.  I’m going with Queen in this one till we see what Andonian’s state of mind is like!

***********************

Alright folks!!!  Donkey and I will be back with you shortly as we try to finish up the Main Card!  But everybody needs a break and something to eat for lunch man!  C’mon, give us some slack!  We’ll be back soon!

Main Card Bout #1: Heavyweights

Thoth Chontamenti v Ali Amir

a9a0560ac4dba945f1d5fa5fa5652b24.png

Now here’s a fight between two very evenly matched boys as we kick off the Main Card with the BIG FELLAS!!!  Former BMF, Thoth Chontamenti, will try to continue his quest to find former glory under new management here as he steps into the cage for the second time with Team Ted! The first fight was a success as he walked away with a decision over Krol last month.  Maybe this is the big turnaround and it continues tonight?

Ali Amir is coming off disappointing losses to Matti and Darongo but had won five of six fights here at Sucker Punch under his current manager before that.  He was THIS CLOSE to making it to the very top and when you get that close, you can taste it. It’s gotta be an obsession at this point, at least it would be for me!  If he can snag a win over the former BEAST here this evening, it’ll go a long way to turning the tide back around and sending him shooting up that ladder again!

Donkey’s Pick: Amir via TKO (Cuts)

Both Chontamenti and Amir have lost via cuts recently.  But only once for Amir, so it may have been a fluke.  Chontamenti though has started to show a disturbing trend.  Both fighters can strike, and strike with a ton of power, or do it with precision.   Chontamenti may be slightly more skilled offensively on the ground but with a new manager it’s hard to say what his approach may be this evening. I’m expecting a great fight here, but I’m also hoping the doctor stays out of this and we also don’t see those nasty assed judges get involved!

Main Card Bout #2: Heavyweights

Yardbird Knox v Charon Lehto

27498c952dce1f348786a5e916d3f7b3.png

Back to back big boy battles! For those of you who like the Clash of the Titans, you’ll love this card tonight!  Knox comes in about 10-15% off on morale, hopefully that doesn’t make this a quick one.  Outside that, these two are just about dead even in skills, outside the smallest advantage boxing or Knox.

Lehto came up on the wrong end of a KO in a Parti with Parta Matti last month but is typically used to dishing out the KO’s rather than taking them.  If he can climb back on that horse for this fight he could be well on his way towards the top and an eventual run at the title, he’s got that much dangerous power and skill!

Knox changed management teams to start out the year and snagged a decision over Krol to start things off with his new team.  A loss to Spong via TKO later in the month of January set him back some but he’ll be looking to renew the “Parti” that Matti started with Lehto in a bang em up fest here tonight I think.  Which fighter finds a gap in those defenses and slips the sledgehammer through?

Donkey’s Pick: Lehto via TKO (Strikes)

Probably the toughest pick for me all night so far folks!  This one could easily “swing” either way, and it’s going to be a blast! I don’t think either let’s this one get to the judges, that much I am confident in predicting!  Lehto was so close to getting to the top, I have to give him the edge due to the fire that should be in his gut tonight!

Main Card Bout #3: Welterweights

Abdul Rahman v Manco Capac

850c3d40ed7fdd0298ce7ab771cf70ed.png

Our last battle before the Main Events folks and so far I’m really getting excited for this card!  I think we’re going to get some great fights out of it and the fans will be pretty happy they attended I think!  For this one, Welterweights Capac and Rahman are ready to get that next step towards Top Contender in and both are well prepared!  Rahman has the Muay Thai edge while Capac defeinitely brings the Jiu Jitsu with his black belt over Rahman’s brown.

Capac made a great run after starting here at SPPS back in late 2021 and eventually worked his way to a title fight with Matsuzaka.  Unfortunately, a late second round TKO ended that bid and then a follow-up loss to eventual champ Mere Con put him back into the second tier range at Welterweight.  Losses recently to Line and Barbosa kept him there after a few solid submission wins but now he’s primed to start ramping up again if he can tack on a win tonight to the TKO victory over Andonian last month.

Rahman has been rocking the decisions lately.  Unfortunately, it’s been a back and forth tennis match with them as he’s bounced between losses and wins over his last four outings.  He’s coming into this fight off a tightly contested majority decision over Armbach last month.  I’m expecting him to potentially take this to the clinch, but he better be careful that Capac doesn’t use that to make a move to the ground as that could be dangerous territory for Rahman!

Donkey’s Pick: Capac via Submission (Armbar)

Given Rahman has been working the decisions lately I think there’s a good chance this fight makes it to the ground and that could be trouble.  Rahman may mix this up and switch to power-counter shots though and that would potentially throw a whole monkey wrench into things!  I can’t wait to see how this one works out!

Co-Main Event:

Featured Heavyweight Bout

Parta Matti v Ronan Darongo

219ad8248e0d01d7ddc125ff285c4fcc.png

Our Co-Main Event features a party!  A Parta party no less!  But one issue with that.  Darongo plans to crash it and spoil it if he can!  Heavyweights in the Co-Main Event who both like to party?  YES PLEASE!  And both are very well prepared, we’re going to get their best this evening folks!  And we better, because there is a Title Shot on the line for the winner here…

Honestly, we weren’t sure what to make of Darongo and his chances here at SPPS when he first arrived under new management.  He’d done very well over several QFC fights, but we all know QFC is no Sucker Punch!  He’s carried that success over to the max though and has run off three big wins in a row here at SPPS, with huge ones over both Chontamenti and Amir!  The win over Amir was a great one to see as he showed some ability to adjust and win via decision outside just relying up on the KO finish.  We all love the KO, but sometimes you have to be able to go the distance also.

Once Matti joined team Crazy Horse he found what he was looking for…a camp that would support his partying while trusting he could still bring it to the cage!   He wasn’t too fond of the grab ass that Daniel Spong brought to the cage in his first fight under his new team but since then it’s been all Parti, all the time!  KO, TKO, KO!  This fight should be no different and it just depends if he can handle what Darongo brings to the cage…which won’t be an easy ask!

Donkey’s Pick: Darongo via TKO (Strikes)

I don’t have a good reason for this pick other than that Darongo and Matti are both on a roll but the coin said to pick Darongo!  All you need to know is that both of these two are down to throw some hands and the Party is ON!!!

Main Event:

Featherweight Championship Bout

Joseph vs. Bang II

Jihadi Joseph v Lemmy Bang

8d233d89618dc812e2746e6093077df3.png

Our Main Event of the evening gives us a battle for the Featherweight strap here at Sucker Punch!  Both of these men have held the belt before…hell, Joseph lost it to Bang before grabbing it back again recently!  So you want to add ‘bad blood’ to the mix?  Check!

Both fighters are VERY well prepared.  I mean, maxed out mostly!  And both boast extremely high skillsets, with only the smallest edge for Joseph in both areas of standup.  It’s not significant though.  This one comes down to heart, will and strategy folks!

Bang will be looking to repeat his last performance against Joseph.  It took till over halfway into the final championship round for him to find the TKO, but he found it and that’s what mattered.  Joseph was going for the higher aggression factor, likely working for the decision, and almost had it as the announcers thought he’d won the first four rounds.  I have to agree.  That was a very close one with a surprise curveball at the end, so can’t wait to see if things get mixed up a bit here!

Donkey’s Pick: Joseph via Unanimous Decision

Bang got a bit of a great run there with a swing for the fences scenario in the last fight.  Joseph is managed by a great manager as well and I expect a few adjustments this time out.  I’m going to say he finds a way to even the score and retain the belt this time out, but I look forward to a rubber match if that’s the case!

SUCKER PUNCH PREVIEW

Sucker Punch Pro Series 234

We’re back and ready to bring the best fans in the MMA world a full coverage preview for SPPS 234 which takes place this evening in Los Angeles, California!  I’m Hare Rumpler and I’ll be joined by my buddy and colleague, Donkey “Dan”, and we’re excited to bring you a nice look forward here.  On top of everything else, we have you covered for your betting needs as well!  You degenerates!  And when I say “we”, well, I mean Bet Cobra Kai has you covered…thanks to a little incentive I gave them to cover us going forward which I hope provides just a bit more fun and value for our managers and fans.

So get over there now and get those bets in if you think you know how the shit will hit the fan this evening for our fights!

16743155928C1E8200-6436-4EA7-B2E7-AD48E6

Tonight’s big fight will be the showdown for the Sucker Punch Pro Series Lightweight Championship as Maximus Furioto finally strings together a solid run and earns his way to the title fight.  He’s all set to challenge the current undisputed, defending champ…the one and only…the GOAT…Frankie Logan!  It’s sure to be a blast as guys with two very different styles, yet skills that cross-over, pit a hell of an effort against one another.  There is no doubt in my mind our fans will get their money’s worth tonight!

Our Co-Main Event also gives me the shivers in anticipation as two Middleweight superstars, Chip Nickel and Landon McGuire, will battle to the death for the right to a title shot!  Well, maybe not to the death, but it sounds fun that way, right?!?

This card is super heavy on a lack of…well, heaviness…with a ton of Lightweight and Featherweight action on tap before the Main Events.  You’ll get Reinikainen and River at Lightweight, as well as Orsic and Theorist.  Also Lentz and Sukulaku.  And then there’s all the Featherweight action as we start the evening by sending Spencer Williams and Yellow Belt Casey into the cage to work up a little lather.  Two fights later you get Gonclaves and Petersson and then another big showdown in the Featherweight division between Brayden Point and Michael Aalto just two fights into the Main Card!  Tuck a few Light Heavyweight battles in there as well and we’ve got ourselves the recipe for a night of fun!

Now, before we get into the nitty-gritty details, let’s take a look at our relatively new merchandise partner and a word on them before we move on…

1541191820Maballaarehot.png

Sucker Punch Pro Series has finally teamed up with Ma Balls Is Hot Clothing, the absolute amazing clothing line that has been the go-to for any fighter who wants to get in there in style…and boy, could any brand be more appropriate for Sucker Punch Pro Series than this?!?  I mean, we’ve  had so many low shots and dingle –dangle stingers over the last few cards that if one thing is clear, our fighters’ balls being hot would be an understatement!  So get over there, get the best threads in the business folks!  And check out there stands at the Colliseum tonight if you’re going to be there for it all live! Now, let's get to the fights in more detail, with all odds provided by Bet Cobra Kai!

***********************

Undercard Bout #1: Featherweights

Spencer Williams (-125) v Yellow Belt Casey (+111)

Not gonna lie, I’m a little bit disappointed in the preparation for both of these guys heading into the opener this evening.  Both are off some on energy and Casey is off a bit on morale as well.  Not exactly looking like a couple of guys who really want it and are fully prepared to give it their all to move up those ladders, huh? Well, there’s a reason they’re the opener I guess!

Casey will give up the advantage wrestling but does have a small edge in boxing.  He’s lost four of his last five and with the lack of prep coming into this contest I can guess why.  Only a win over Sirus Hughes in December has kept it from being a total disaster over the recent run and even that doesn’t redeem it much.  Casey has been with Sucker Punch almost his entire career but I won’t sit here and blow sunshine up yer asses…another loss here would likely see him making tough decisions about whether to walk away from the cage or catch on with another promotion.

We took a shot on Williams and brought him in last month.  He didn’t disappoint with a very nice KO victory over Jake Smith.  Another win here this evening could certainly get him up closer to 1000 P4P rank which will have him making big strides forward.  He’s proven in the past that he can handle himself with power strikes standing or get the job done on the ground with submissions.  Casey doesn’t usually mind working for submissions himself but this puts him in a pressure cooker this evening due to the lack of prep.

Donkey’s Pick: Williams via TKO (Strikes)

The pick is easy.  Although both fighters leave something to be desired in preparation, Williams is the more prepared and for that reason I look to him this evening and side with the odds makers at Bet Cobra Kai!

***********************

Undercard Bout #2: Light Heavyweights

Chestner vs. Creed II

Brad Chestner (-115) v Vernon Creed (+102)

It didn’t take long for us to find guys who were ready to get into the cage with full attention to detail in their prep!  Love it!  Chestner and Creed are ready to give the fans the respect they deserve by coming with their best!

Creed has the slight edge in both areas of standup but gives up the Jiu Jitsu advantage with a brown belt to Chestner’s black.  Creed came into SPPS firing on all cylinders and quickly scored a trio of wins over Bloode, Kuznetsov and…yep, Chestner!  But then when given a chance to step up to the next tier he stumbled a bit against Mataitai and Po with KO and Submission losses respectively.  Tonight’s rematch with Chestner will tell us which is heading in the right direction these days and who’s ready for that next step forward again!

Chestner really hit a rough stretch over the last few fights under former manager Alexander Biro but along with a management change to Team Humphreys he also changed up his momentum!  Two back to back submission victories has him coming into the cage tonight with his confidence pumped and we’ll see if he can pull the same shenanigans against Creed who prefers to stay on the feet.  This may come down to whether or not Chestner can get the fight to the mat before being put there on his ass first!

Donkey’s Pick: Chestner via Submission (Armbar)

Wow, only our second fight of the night and already a VERY tough one to pick!  And I think the odds makers reflect that tough choice as well!  They’re saying Chestner on this one.  Creed came out on top last time with a decision victory thanks to his ability to prevent Chestner from getting a takedown until the very last few seconds of the final round.  I’m tempted to say that gives Creed the edge, but I feel like Chestner will find a way to get it to the floor sooner in this rematch. If he does, his chances improve, so I’m going to go with Chestner to set up the rubber match at some point.  But I’m not solidly married to that pick and wouldn’t bet the mortgage on it!

***********************

Undercard Bout #3: Featherweights

Guilherme Goncalves (-102) v Peter Petersson (-111)

Our second Featherweight contest of the evening with more to come!  Petersson and Gonclaves are very closely matched with only a small edge in wrestling for Petersson and both are just about evenly prepared.  Not fully maxed out, but close enough that I don’t think Donkey’s going to be spitting venom over it!

Petersson turned things around finally last fight earlier this month with a decision over a struggling Yellow Belt Casey.  He needed that win desperately as he’d taken three L’s in a row prior.  He was a TKO and KO machine early in his career but more recently fights have been going the distance and you have to wonder if his opponents have caught up in defense or if Petersson has just been unable to slip those shots through due to straight up bad luck?  No matter what the reason, you know he’ll want to finish here tonight, get things over with quickly, and sit back to watch the action while having a celebratory beer or shot or whatever floats his boat!

Gonclaves won’t, or at least, shouldn’t, be cooperative in helping Petersson enjoy the remainder of his evening.  He’s lost three of his last four with only a win over Yellow Belt Casey two fights back breaking the run of losses.  That’s something that at least he and Petersson have in common…to Casey’s detriment.  Three of Gonclaves’ losses under current management have come via TKO or KO finishes so he’s going to need to have his defense on point this evening facing Petersson.

Donkey’s Pick: Petersson via TKO (Strikes)

Once again I have to agree with the odds makers at Bet Cobra Kai on this one!  It’s like they’re in my head!!!  While I don’t know their reasoning for handicapping the fight this way, I do indeed think that the trends favor Petersson in this one and that he could get to Gonclaves’ chin.

***********************

Undercard Bout #4: Light Heavyweights

Sol Fitzsimmons (+100) v Anderson Nogueira (-113)

Back and forth we go between Featherweights and Light Heavyweights and on schedule we have another pair of Light Heavyweights coming at you as Nogueira prepares to battle Fitzimmons this evening.  Nogueira has a small sliver of advantage in both areas of standup while giving up the edge wrestling to Fitzsimmons.

Nogueira has been dangerously close to making a run to the top over his stay at SPPS.  Only the occasional speedbump…in this case, speedbumps named Cruzeiro and Thai…has slowed him down.  He’s back on track to make another solid go at it after a win over CJ Robinson via TKO in the early part of round two last month.  He’s typically a striker who likes to finish but three fights back he pulled off a shocking submission via Triangle Armbar over Smash Machine, so his opponent should be on notice that there’s a threat on the ground also!

Fitzsimmons started out at SPPS a little bit rocky with losses to Smash Machine and Grigorian via KO and TKO finishes.  He got his shit together though and ran off wins against Ecker and Muller before suffering another loss to Baraka, this time a submission.  He once again shook off the ‘L’ by defeating Bill Newton via TKO last month just over halfway through the first.  He need to find a way to hold onto momentum and pull off several wins in a row and to do that he needs to focus on getting the ‘W’ tonight!  That’ll be easier said than done against a guy who can strike like Nogueira…or, you know, get a submission too.  Maybe.

Donkey’s Pick: Fitzsimmons via TKO (Strikes)

This is where I’m going to part ways, at least for this pick, from the odds makers at Bet Cobra Kai!  They’re picking Nogueira to win this one, likely due to the threat he represents standing and on the ground, but I see Nogueira as susceptible to the finish on the feet as well and think Fitzsimmons might have the right stuff to take advantage.

Undercard Bout #5: Lightweights

Leon Lentz (+122) v Jyrki Sukulaku (-138)

We step away from the Featherweight and Light Heavyweight action here and finally mix it up a bit with Lightweights Sukulaku and Lentz to close out the Undercard!  Both are very well prepared for this fight and that always puts a smile on my face!  Evenly matched in everything but Jiu Jitsu, Sukulaku will hold the advantage with his black belt over Lentz’ brown.

Sukulaku has all the skills anybody could ask for, on paper, but has just struggled to find consistent results in the cage over his career.  He’s managed to work his way to two title fights over four managers…first, back with Rensburg when he was with Checkmate…then here at SPPS under Team Finch where he lost via decision to Thomas Maeda.  Early in his career we all found out he had some decent KO power…and he’s demonstrated it over time…the issue?  Perhaps the complimentary chin just isn’t there, at least not enough of it.  So he’ll fall to the occasional KO or a decision when trying to protect the chin.

Lentz can probably feel for Sukulaku…but won’t offer any sympathy likely!  He himself has been to two title fights over his career…first at Gamma Contenders where he lost to Oosthuizen…and then here at SPPS four fights back where he was thwarted by the GOAT himself, Frankie Logan.  That loss seemed to rock his confidence as he then proceeded to take losses to White Rain and Kurt Cobain as well before recovering for a good, solid decision against Itzpapalotltotec last month.  Say that name three times fast folks!  Or spell it, I double dog dare ya!  Lentz can also take it via strikes or win via the judges, so this is bound to be a fun fight!

Donkey’s Pick: Lentz via Unanimous Decision

I’m going to differ from the odds makers’ opinions this time around as well and say that Lentz has seen some top talent here at SPPS more recently and while that didn’t result in wins, he’s been tested.  Steel sharpens steel and I think maybe that drives him to a win here tonight!

***********************

Alright folks!!!  Donkey and I will be back with you shortly as we try to finish up the Main Card!  But everybody needs a break and a snack, drink, whatever!!!  C’mon, give us some slack!  We’ll be back soon!

Main Card Bout #1: Lightweights

Mate Orsic (-115) v Conspiracy Theorist (+102)

c82f3b956df0c449d43606fa226928b8.png

Main Card time folks and as you’d be right to expect, both of these fighters are fully prepped, energy topped off, morale high, yep, set to give you a show!!!  Orsic will be the better Jiu Jitsu artist but Theorist has the advantage in standup.  Both have solid experience in the cage and a shot at putting together back to back wins for the one who proves the victor here this evening!

Theorist settled into things after a debut loss at SPPS.  He ran off three wins back to back to back over Kongsangchai, Joy and Furioto.  The last of which was impressive as Furioto is a perennial contender.  Or high end gatekeeper if you ask some!  However, once he was able to establish himself as being close to or in the top tier of Lightweights here at Sucker Punch, Theorist found the going a bit tougher as he ran into the likes of River, Reinikainen and Sukulaku.  He’d like to pair a win this evening with his TKO over Dominguez earlier this month to make it back to backs again and a chance to establish momentum!

Orsic brings a serious threat to the table for Theorist as he’s an accomplished submission artist coming off yet another sub over Moe Lester last month.  He’s been back and forth since joining Sucker Punch in September last year…W,L,W,L,W…and if the trend holds he’s due for a loss. That’s not what his team wants to hear though and they’ll be looking to throw that trend out the window!  Or break it’s arm.  Something like that.

Donkey’s Pick: Orsic via Submission (Kimura)

I always tend to lean a bit towards submission artists who have proven records on the ground against strikers.  It’s tough to stop a takedown unless the strike can land that nasty shot on a counter early in the fight.  For that reason only, I’m going to lean towards Orsic here tonight and that means I’ll be back to agreeing with the odds makers at Bet Cobra Kai.

***********************

Main Card Bout #2: Featherweights

Brayden Point (-106) v Michael Aalto (-106)

418a76e44661b699dce5a24ad0f5734a.png

Featherweights up again next and damn, are these two primed and ready!!!  Love, LOVE, this!!!  Both are fully prepped, energy, morale, Viagra, you name it…and both are square in primaries right down the line!!!  This should be a fantastic fight folks!  And the odds makers at Bet Cobra Kai are reflecting that with the odds!

Aalto is a former beast in the division here at SPPS but it’s been a long time since he’s been able to get momentum going and keep it rolling long enough to get back to a title fight.  He’s been close…oh, so damned close!...but Just.  Not.  Quite.  It has to be frustrating for him and his camp.  Seriously.  I would be.  He lost earlier this month to Lemmy Bang who then went on to get a title shot and win it!  That has to be even more frustrating, after having put up three straight wins to get to that Top Contender battle.  Now, he’ll try to get back on the right track with a win over Point, who definitely won’t make it easy!

Point makes his Sucker Punch debut after having been with Combate for a LONG, LONG time.  He comes in off two decision losses and likely hopes that a change of scenery will also bring a change of fortune.  A habitual ‘of the Night’ winner, he brings the fun and excitement as a crowd favorite and knows what it takes to win at the highest level as he was a former JBL, JAG and SYN champion back in the day at both Featherweight and Lightweight.  But it’s been four managers and what feels like eons since then so he needs to reinvent and refocus to start the trek towards glory again this evening!  New scenery, new opportunities!

Donkey’s Pick: Point via Submission (Triangle)

Point can bring it in so many ways.  Decision, check.  Striking finish, check.  Submissions, even that, yep, check!  Aalto brings much of the same but it’s been a while since he’s finished with strikes.  Decisions and submissions have been his go-to of late.  He, like Point, knows how to get it done as a former champ.  This is so difficult to pick so I’ll just flip the coin…and heads says Point…and the coin then says…via submission!  Ok, let’s get on with it then!

***********************

Main Card Bout #3: Lightweights

Artturi Reinikainen (-106) v Guy River (-106)

a3aa72b613e46941bda8f2f6d1bfd0fb.png

Our last battle before the Main Events brings us a couple faces that are new to each other, which is always fun!

River has been so close so many times, and when he has gotten there the belt has been snatched away almost immediately if not within two fights.  You know he wants to get back and prove he can hold it, but he has some work to do before then as he lost the belt to Alderidge in January then took a loss to Furioto to lose a chance at the title fight comeback.

Reinikainen is trying desperately to find some consistency and to develop a bit of momentum with his wins.  Every time he gets one or two wins, a loss sets him and his camp back a step or two.  The same has been true over his four fight run at SPPS so far, with losses followed by wins each time.  He’s coming off a win over Sukulaku, so this is another chance to try to get that good ole ‘mo’ going.  Add that it was a ‘KO of the Night’ performance, that has to have you fired up to get in there and get some more!  He’s a former champ from SYN at Lightweight as well, so he knows what it takes, but that also means he knows how difficult it can be to maintain and stay on top!

Donkey’s Pick: River via Unanimous Decision

Both fighters are highly prepared, as you’d damned well expect, and both are very evenly matched in primaries outside River’s slight advantage in Muay Thai.  I don’t think that factors in heavily, but we’ll see.  Both fighters seem to be a bit susceptible to submissions, so I don’t think we’re going to see much ground action in this one.  Both have been most effective when going at it with technical striking and grabbing decisions lately, so I expect a long, technical affair that ends with the judges’ scorecards.  River excels in that, maybe just a tad more, so I’m going with him on this one tonight.  The odds makers at Bet Cobra Kai agree it seems, as the odds are about even on both!

Co-Main Event:

Featured Middleweight Bout

Chip Nickel (+108) v Landon McGuire (-122)

b6583498497e7a9a14929b27c2c9633a.png

Our Co-Main Event again gives us two fighters who are well prepared.  I expect that.  Donkey expects that.  The fans expect that.  The fighters get it!  Done deal, love it!  These two Middleweights both know how to fight at the highest levels, and they know what it takes to be successful.

McGuire has the advantage on the ground with a slight, very small, edge in wrestling but a better advantage in Jiu Jitsu with his black belt over Nickel’s purple.  Does that mean he’ll try to work the ground game tonight?  I think that’s likely as he does have a few submissions over the past year.  And Matsuda just took out Nickel with a kimura to steal the belt in late January.  Sounds like a game plan ready made to me!  It’s been almost three years since McGuire has held the belt here at SPPS. You know he doesn’t want to squander this opportunity to get back to the title fight!

Nickel is trying to use a win over McGuire as a way to springboard right back into the title picture after losing the belt to Matsuda as we mentioned.  He’d held it for two successful defenses and had held it a prior time in the past year, so he’s been in more title fights at Middleweight over the past 12 months than anybody else I’d wager…at least without actually looking and doing the research!  He’s a decision machine…and on the rare occasion that he doesn’t win via decision that’s when somebody else manages to snake a win from him.  Expect a technical striking display tonight while he attempts to prevent the fight from making it to the mat. But five rounds…is a long time to try to prevent that.  I hope his submission defense is on point!

Donkey’s Pick: McGuire via Submission (Triangle)

As Hare just said, five rounds is a long time to hold off the opponent who wants to be on the ground and has superior submission skills.  Unless you’re Frankie Logan at Lightweight.  And while Nickel is certainly elite, he has his work cut out for him tonight.  I just feel the slight edge is there for McGuire.

Main Event:

Lightweight Championship Bout

Logan vs. Furioto II

Frankie Logan (-117) v Maximus Furioto (+104)

9001c745ab06a787dd49aaaac1103029.png

Our Main Event of the evening is a rematch long, LONG removed!  Furioto and Logan last fought back in December…of 2020!!!  Over two years ago.  That’s a millennia in MMAT!

That said, Logan knows that this defense of the title will require some special stuff…even he mentioned that he doesn’t expect to have to deal with shots to the dingle dangles tonight…maybe just a few loving gropes if the fight gets to the mat!  And if it does get there, expect it’ll be by Furioto’s doing.  Despite Logan’s prowess on the ground, and he does have skills there, I don’t expect him to take those chances in Furioto’s kitchen!  He’ll want this fight on the feet where he can score points and drag it to the judges!

Furioto…well, he’s won his last two over River and Reinikainen via submission and even the fight four back, four wins in a row I might add, was another submission over Urameshi.  Only Sukulaku escaped but the judges proved his undoing.  Furioto did have some issues getting to the title fight again after having been there twice in his SPPS career.  He was here in July last year but lost to Mediocre via…shockingly…submission…and wayyyyy back as we discussed with Logan in their first meeting.  Which was a title shot as well…and ended…no surprise…in a decision for Logan.  He’ll want to avoid the same fate this evening!  How he does that…well, I suspect even more attempts at submissions!  Shocking.  Again.

Donkey’s Pick: Logan via Submission (Armbar)

Logan loves to mix it up and surprise his fans.  And when he thinks you expect him to avoid the obvious, he does the opposite. He could win this via standup technical striking.  But I think over five rounds it gets to the ground.  And that screams advantage Furioto.  I’m going for the surprise ‘Sub of the Night’ here…but I believe Logan flips the script and pulls off a shocking turnabout with one of his own!

***********************

We’re all set and waiting for all the action at the Colliseum in Los Angeles for SPPS 234 tonight ya’ll!  Hope you’ll be there with us but hell, I can understand if you can’t!  If not, we’ve got you covered with an amazing THREE HOUR PPV that will not disappoint!  We’ve spared no expense and you’ll get three hours of some of the best action and production you could ever ask for!

Till then, have fun and don’t forget…

Keep it cheap and dirty…Sucker Punch Pro Series style!

Hey Sucker Punch Fans!

So, it's been a while since I touched on a few of these topics and I just really feel it's important for me to cover them every so often, especially for newer managers or guys who just may not be aware of the particulars with these things!  Anyways, this bit of info is to help with Energy, Morale and Flights (and the lack of needing to use them!).

First, ENERGY: This one is important for both training as well as on fight day. Training - If your fighter has dropped below 90% energy...he is NOT going to get the very best from his training, which means eventually if you continue training this way, your guy will fall behind others regardless of his learning speed or not. Fights - If you let your fighter walk into a fight without close to his full energy, there is a very good chance you are setting him up for a loss. If he doesn't get lucky and finish the fight early via a KO or Sub, there is a very good chance that as the fight drags on, even as early as late in the first round, he's going to get gassed and be more susceptible to being finished. Give your guy the best shot possible...keep his energy ready to go on fight day, and be sure he's training at above 90%!

Regaining Energy: The only way to regain energy is to rest him (set his training schedule to "no training" for as many days as it takes to get back to where you want him. You can find out how many days it will take by going to the little icon at the top right of your fighter's page that looks like a weight, located between the red "VS" and the Eyeball icons. It helps keeping the energy up if you are using supplements as well, but the main thing is to manage those training sessions, lay off before a fight for at least 2 sessions or however many it takes to get back to or close to full energy!

Now, MORALE: If your guy has not regained his morale to close to 100%, or at least over 95% or so, then the lower he is the less chance he's going to go into a fight focused and having the confidence to try to win it. Morale will drop for a number of reasons, including a loss in a fight and not changing his clothes often enough. If your poor dude is still wearing his magic white t-shirt and shorts, it's time to change that up.

Regaining Morale: You will want to go to "Possessions" in the right-hand menu of the page, right down between Sponsors and Finances and check for his clothing and supplement usage there. If he doesn't have any other clothes, you should consider going shopping for some. If his morale needs to be boosted back up, try changing his clothes every day (by using the trash can next to his top and bottom items of clothing to throw away one copy, which will bring the quality back from whatever it is to "150" again) until the morale eventually works back to where you want it. After that, changing them every so often when the quality of them gets down to 140 or lower should keep his morale up barring a loss in a fight.  If you need detailed information on how to do this, feel free to reach out to me!

Last but not least, FLIGHTS:  There is absolutely no need to ever take a flight with your fighter to the fight locations before his fight.  Your fighter will automatically take part in the fight card no matter where he's located, so don't schedule a flight for him (ever!  Except to change base if you need to for your gym!).  Stay in his hometown where his gym is and your guy will simply fight and still be there afterward.  No loss of $ sending him to the fight, no loss of energy and no loss of time!  So, keep this in mind when deciding upon orgs to join...the location of the org does NOT factor into things these days ever since Mike turned off the need to fly to your fights about 2 years ago!

Anyways, I hope this helps any newer managers out there. Reach out to me or any other experienced manager if you have any questions. Others might have other tips for you as well, but I hope this helps get all of our cheap shot artists in the best shape they can be come fight day and during training! More experienced managers, feel free to jump in here with any additional pieces of information that I failed to touch on, or to correct me as necessary!

Take care,
Hare

Sucker Punch Pro Series & Org Ratings

I'm not here to beg for ratings, seriously.  I don't use having a "100% satisfaction" rating as some sort of ego boost or anything like that.  But, like many org owners, what I do worry about is when it drops below that and nobody's said anything to me about the issues they may have.  That's my primary motivation, to figure out what somebody is unhappy about and to fix it if I can.  Or, hell, if they feel they're just stuck in a contract until it runs up, simply give them the option to be cut loose sooner if that's what they'd like and we can't make the situation better for them.

As I said, I think that's probably one of the most frustrating things for org owners.  Getting a low rating by somebody, or more than one person, and not knowing why.

We've been sitting at 98% for about two weeks now.  Clearly somebody is unhappy and has chosen to give us a poor rating.  Could just be normal trolling, that happens.  Somebody from another org gets a fighter in with rival orgs specifically for the purpose of ranking them low.  It's stupid, but it happens.  Or, it could be somebody who's truly unhappy.  If that's the case, please come chat with me!

*************************

In the meantime, for those who don't know, contract ratings/feedback are given by going to your contracts page, and then clicking on the red X/green check up in the top right!  No obligation to do so folks, but for those who wanted to know!

SUCKER PUNCH PREVIEW

Sucker Punch Pro Series 235

Welcome back Sucker Punch and MMA fans worldwide!  Hare Rumpler here along with my buddy and colleague, Donkey “Dan”, as we prepare to give you a little preview for SPPS 235!  We’ll be in London for this one at the amazing Wombley Arena and no doubt the place will be rocking!

On top of everything else, we have you covered once again for your betting needs!  Bet Cobra Kai has you covered I guess I should say…thanks to a little incentive I gave them to cover us going forward which I hope provides just a bit more fun and value for our managers and fans.  So be sure to get a few bets in on the side to add to the fun and excitement if you think you’re better than Donkey, or hell, just follow his lead!  He did ok for me last week!

16743155928C1E8200-6436-4EA7-B2E7-AD48E6

Much like our last card was very heavy on Featherweight and Lightweight representation, tonight’s card will feature Welterweights with four fights from that division.  There will also be three Featherweight bouts as well, so they are back at it in force also!  The evening will be kicked off by our Light Heavyweights though as we have a test, sparring bout on tap to warm things up and then the Main Card is opened again by Light Heavyweights.  The remaining fight this evening is a Lightweight battle between Dominguez and Boxaaja that will be our first full, three round battle after the sparring bout gets things going.

The Main Card is chock full of goodness this evening at the Wombley!  From that opening Light Heavyweight bout I mentioned, featuring Garbowa and Beach, we go cruising forward with some seriously talented fighters!  Seres and Gentil will go at it at Welterweight, as well as Sinclair and Matsuzaka after them and leading right up to our two Main Events!  Those Main Events bring you some of the best action in the MMA world as Kalmisto and Jimenez work to get a title fight opportunity and our Main Event gives us a Championship battle for the Welterweight strap as A. Mere Con defends against a very hungry Mason Jones!

And check out there stands at the Wombley tonight if you’re going to be there for it all live! Guarantee you won’t leave without a new set of digs that’ll have you super excited to get to the gym!

Now, let's get to the fights in more detail, with all odds provided by Bet Cobra Kai!

Only time for the Main Card today, so hopefully you folks enjoy!

***********************

Main Card Bout #1: Light Heavyweights

Sammy Beach (+100) v Zawisza Czarny Z Garbowa (-113)

We’ll get the Main Card kicked off here with two kids who are fully prepared to get in there and give the fans their money’s worth!  Nice, very nice.  Garbowa will be the better ground fighter in this one as he’s got a red belt in Jiu Jitsu and the better wrestling. However, the striking advantage on the feet goes to Beach for both boxing and Muay Thai!  We’ll see which pays off this evening.

Garbowa is struggling.  Royally.  There’s no way to candy-coat that.  It just is what it is.  He’s lost four in a row and prior to that a single win separates those four losses from three more.  Making it a 1-7 run over the past eight fights.  That’s…well, let’s just say it, that’s brutal.  He needs to find a way to get back to his winning ways when he was getting guys to the ground and snagging submissions!  Have opponents picked up on a weakness on his part that can be exploited?  It almost feels that way.

Beach is a former champ here at SPPS and from CFC prior to the merger.  He knows what it takes to get it done, but lately he’s been struggling to get those things to click.  He’s lost four in a row and it all started with a superfight between him for SPPS and Joosep Lohmus at GAMMA.  A decision loss there has snowballed into the loss of the belt a few weeks later to Dracul and an inability to score the wins needed since then in two more fights that have both resulted in losses.  At this point we may need to start paying for yoga and meditation classes for him to refocus!

Donkey’s Pick: Garbowa via Submission (Armbar)

Beach is a seriously heavy hitter and if Garbowa takes a shot that connects he may be out for the count.  That said, Beach has also shown he’s susceptible to the submission and ground game, so that could be the opportunity that Garbowa needs.  I’m going to go with the upset here and clearly the odds makers at Bet Cobra Kai agree!

***********************

Main Card Bout #2: Welterweights

Andor Seres (-144) v Paulo Gentil (+127)

We’ll keep things rolling along tonight with two more fighters who are very well prepared!  I wouldn’t expect anything less on the Main Card, and certainly not with the names involved this evening.  Gentil will give up the ground advantage in this one due to Seres having a black belt over his own brown, but outside that these two are well matched!

Gentil missed an opportunity to book a trip to the Title fight with a loss to Matsuzaka in mid-January.  He’s bounced back with (yet another) the ‘W’ against Armbach via his usual decision route.  Figure a win over Seres here, a former champ himself, would put him about a single Top Contender fight away from getting that trip officially booked!  But he has to focus on the task at hand, Seres is no slouch!

Seres earned his first title for Christmas this past holiday season but was unable to hold onto it with his first title defense as Matsuzaka giveth, but Mere Con taketh!  A follow-up loss to Mason Jones lost the opportunity to jump right back into the title picture and gave the opportunity to Jones instead who fights for that belt tonight.  Seres is also a big decision guy, so expect a display of technical striking this evening!

Donkey’s Pick: Seres via Unanimous Decision

Given both fighters are technical, precision strikers for the most part (yes, they can change it up when needed though), I have to go with the guy who has used it to get to the belt in the past.  The odds makers at Bet Cobra Kai appear to agree with me so much like our prior event at SPPS 234, we start off with BCK and I in lockstep at least for a couple fights.

***********************

Main Card Bout #3: Welterweights

Keisuke Matsuzaka (-106) v Itchy Sinclair (-106)

Our last battle before the Main Events brings two more very, VERY well prepared kids to the cage!  Sinclair and Matsuzaka aren’t some rookie goofballs heading in there all half-assed.  They know what they’re doing and they know what it takes to get to the top.  Sinclair could earn a Title Fight opportunity with a win here.  If he doesn’t win, and Gentil does in the prior fight, the opportunity will go to Gentil. Both Matsuzaka and Seres would need to compile a couple fights to earn opportunities again given recent runs and history.

Sinclair came through with a big win over Mareth Line last month as he ended the debate that was raging after their Draw in January.  With that win he’s defeated his last two opponents and is set up to make a case for a shot at the title if he can defeat the former champ here.  Opponents need to be aware that this man can drag it to the judges for points, but can also work a ground game for submissions if you fall victim to a takedown.

Matsuzaka has suffered a similar fate as Beach in that he was cruising along until a Superfight with Summa Sector from Syn back mid-December.  He lost that via a nasty KO and some have now started to question if his confidence has been rocked.  Or maybe still suffering some concussion issues?  He lost the belt to Seres on Christmas, seemed to rebound against Gentil to start off 2023 but then lost the title fight rebound opportunity against A. Mere Con just last month. With three losses over his past four he needs to find a way back on the horse and rolling again.

Donkey’s Pick: Sinclair via Split Decision

The odds makers at Bet Cobra Kai have this one at even for both and I’m not sure I can disagree as I’m having trouble making this pick myself!  While most would consider Matsuzaka the big favorite on this one, Sinclair has the momentum and for that reason I have to lean towards him I think!

Co-Main Event:

Featured Featherweight Bout

Jimenez vs. Kalmisto II

Diogo Jimenez (-111) v Apophis Kalmisto (-102)

1e796d5dd011ef170b4614bd947c02de.png

Our Co-Main Event brings us a battle for a title shot at Featherweight!  Kalmisto has worked himself into position to not only avenge the loss he took in his one and only title fight so far, but to use the opportunity to get back to yet another second title opportunity.  Jimenez knows what it takes to be at the top, so he’s looking to get back there and with both of these guys prepped and fully ready to get at it the fans will get the best they have!    As it should be with a title fight opportunity on the line!

Kalmisto has back to backs over Courtial and Idowu coming into this battle.  He’s definitely given his opponent something to think about as those prior wins were via KO and Submission respectively!  Ooh, ok, pick yer poison time for Jimenez?!?  The win over Idowu had to feel good as he was able to avenge a loss from December where he got taken out via head kick!  Ouch.

Jimenez will be a tough customer for Kalmisto this evening.  He’s only lost two fights in HIS LAST ELEVEN!!!  Both to the same man, Jihadi Joseph.  That evens their score at 2-2 with Joseph having lost the first two times they met but getting the better of the meetings in the last two outings via decisions. Both of those losses resulted in the belt walking away from Jimenez, so there may be a bit of extra saltiness on the part of his camp!  If he wins tonight, and Jimenez retains the belt in a week or so, then we’ll see ROUND FIVE!  And not actual rounds, but their fifth meeting.

Donkey’s Pick: Jimenez via Submission (Triangle)

Where Kalmisto brings the power striking or submission threat, Jimenez offers the ability to strike for points or grab a submission himself. Does this fight end up on the ground with them trading submission opportunities?  Or standing with Kalmisto bringing the counter-power shots while Jimenez tags away at him?  We’ll find out!  I can’t wait!  For  now, I have to go with Jimenez who has only fallen to Joseph in recent memory…and who also won their first meeting via decision back in October last year.

***********************

Main Event:

Welterweight Championship Bout

A. Mere Con (-122) v Mason Jones (+108)

Our Main Event gives us our first meeting between Jones and Mere Con…and it’s for the Welterweight Title!!!  Both are very prepared for the fight, as they damned well better be, and both are very evenly matched.  Only Con has slight edges in Muay Thai and wrestling, but nothing significant.

Jones comes to the cage tonight intent upon changing up his history with belt opportunities.  He’s stepped into the cage two times before this with a shot at the strap but has come away empty to date. Both decision losses, first to Wagner back in July last year and then to Matsuzaka in October.  Since that time he’s only lost a single fight, to Andor Seres, which he avenged this past month with a majority decision. He’s been cutting these decisions tight lately, with his last three fights ending that way including the loss to Seres three back.  He also has power at his disposal which was on heavy display earlier in his career and run here at SPPS.  We’ll see if that comes back or if he sticks with the efficient, technical approach!

Con was a former champion at GDL before heading to CFC and eventually swinging over to SPPS as part of our merger with CFC.  He earned a title shot fairly quickly after running right up the ladder here at SPPS but fell short against Matsuzaka, who won via decision.  Hmm…these two have something in common here!  Since then, he’s dispatched all opponents with wins over Sinclair, Line, Seres (who he took the belt from) and a revenge win over Matsuzaka when he came knocking in Con’s first title defense last month.  All via decision.  This man also showed power early in his career, so this should be a thrilling fight tonight with so many opportunities on both sides to mix it up!

Donkey’s Pick: Con via KO (Punch)

Obviously I can’t just pick against the current champ.  And Bet Cobra Kai agrees with their odds.  With nothing really to set one or the other apart other than experience, I have to go with that as the reason for Con to pull this one out!

We’re all set and waiting for all the action at the Wombley Arena in London for SPPS 235 tonight ya’ll!

Mason told me he’d gladly spank you again even though he won every round. We would accept an immediate rematch if offered. You better come in with another game-plan he said.

Mere Con told me he will be ready for trilogy after he will beat down your boy, he said that your boy won't be able to steal the decision again, so prepare for two more fights. Trilogy will happen!

I can do almost an immediate rematch, if the current champ wants that, or I can send Gentil into the next title fight.  Honestly, being that the only one he's lost to recently was Matsuzaka, I'd almost rather see that rematch and have the winner of that fight be next anyway, so a rematch at this time would fit in timeline wise.  Let me know what the preference is, this is one of those situations where I have some flexibility as there was no "strongly locked in" Top Contender battle right behind it.

Looks like Mere Con is getting his rematch, what a great fight that will be! We promise you to make trilogy happen between us! Grab the belt or die, that's how A. Mere Con will go into that fight!

It was a rough run for Kiryu, the Dragon had fallen and risen again his whole career but Mickey Garcia was the only to truly defeat him. After many weeks atop Mount Fujiwara, consuming solely yak milk and meditating on the way of the footfist, cherry blossoms fell around with the wind whistling a song kinda like "vrewwww vrewww vrewwwvreewwwwww" it dawned on him,the fabled Donkey Kick.

While the legend spreads far and wide a kick so clean it could cut and seal a beer bottle in half creating a smaller lousy beer bottle and a fused glass container you could never access the beer to, the kick that brought down the Berlin Wall, literally. If you just use your feet, as fists, the power is unlimited. And thusly Kazuma delivered the meatlovers xxxl from his shin, to the face of his opponent.

Will the Dragon rise once more and reclaim the title, tune in next time......

SUCKER PUNCH PREVIEW

Sucker Punch Pro Series 238

Welcome back Sucker Punch and MMA fans worldwide!  Hare Rumpler here along with my buddy and colleague, Donkey “Dan”, as attempt to get you as much of a preview for SPPS 238 as we can before the event kicks off over in London at the Wombley Arena today!  I’ve asked Risa Roo, who is on spring break, to see if she can get the Undercard done, so we’ll see if she can come through.  In the meantime, I’m trying to do the Main Card while also keeping up with work! Haha.

Once again, the fine folks over at Bet Cobra Kai have you covered for your gambling addiction!  So, be sure to get a few bets in on the side to add to the fun and excitement if you think you’re better than Donkey, or hell, just follow his lead!  So far I’m up with them, you could be too…maybe!

16743155928C1E8200-6436-4EA7-B2E7-AD48E6

The Main Card is packed with elite action this evening at the Wombley!  Let’s just get right to the big stuff…our Lightweight title is on the line again as the GOAT has taken that back and defended it once successfully as is. Now, Logan will deal with a brand new face and challenger in Reinikainen this evening!  Fun stuff!  Oost and Cobain also throw down at Lightweight just before that in the Co-Main event, so it’s a Lightweight party going on over there at the top of the night!

And check out there stands at the Wombley tonight if you’re going to be there for it all live! Guarantee you won’t leave without a new set of digs that’ll have you super excited to get to the gym!

Now, let's get to the fights in more detail, with all odds provided by Bet Cobra Kai!

***********************

Hello friends and family of the Sucker Punch community. It’s Risa here, bringing you a quick preview of the first five fights of the night. Hare sent this to me exactly two hours before it needed to be done, so he’s lucky I have nothing better to do while I sit at a desk at work for nine hours today. Without further ado, here we go!

***********************

Undercard Bout #1: Heavyweights

Lou Slugger (-117) v Drew Barnes (+104)

Risa’s Take:

The first fight of the night will be between Lou Slugger and Drew Barnes. Both of these guys are coming into tonight with lots of energy and pretty high morale. Now Slugger is the clear favorite for this fight, with Barnes as a pretty clear underdog. However, Slugger is coming off of a recent loss (though he did have a three-win streak going before that loss), while Barnes had a recent win. Who knows, maybe Barnes can ride that momentum of his last win to bring home another and shock the masses. Personally, I always like to bet on the underdog. I also don’t bet with real money though, so my opinion may be a little invalid on that. What? I’m 21, all my money gets spent on Applebee’s margaritas, not betting or gambling.

***********************

Undercard Bout #2: Lightweights

Jesus Christ Karter (+178) v Pablo Itzpapalotltotec (-203)

Risa’s Take:

The second fight of the night will be between Jesus Christ Karter and Pablo Itzpapalotltotec. Hey bestie Pablo, respectfully, there’s no shot I try to spell that last name more than once, so I’ve decided we are on a first name basis. Bestie Pablo is the clear favorite for the fight, with the “Son of God” as the underdog. That’s not to say good ole JC can’t make a miracle happen. Wouldn’t be the first time Jesus made a comeback after a loss. Both of these guys have good energy and morale, so this hopefully will be a fun fight to watch despite the odds being heavily in Pablo’s favor.

***********************

Undercard Bout #3: Light Heavyweights

Shen Po (+104) v Ryan Bolt (-117)

Risa’s Take:

The third fight of the night will be between Shen Po and Ryan Bolt. Now Bolt is the favorite for this fight, but that’s not to say Po can come in swinging. Po is currently on a three-fight win streak that I’m sure he’d hate to lose tonight. He has a lot of submission wins on his record, so Bolt has something to look out for there. Bolt is coming off a series of alternating wins and losses, and he has a lot of energy going into tonight. He’s a big decision/TKO win guy. Personally I, as always, am hoping for a TKO win. They’re just so fun! Both of these guys definitely have something to prove tonight, and I hope regardless of the outcome they manage to put on a hell of a show for us viewers.

***********************

Undercard Bout #4: Welterweights

Logan Barrengarry (-106) v D.C. Benny (-106)

Risa’s Take:

The fourth fight of the night will be between Logan Barrengarry and D.C. Benny. These guys are pretty evenly matched, so this should be a great back and forth fight if they’re both on their A game coming into it. Both guys are coming of a couple of wins and looking to establish their win streak tonight, so this fight will be a great chance for them to show off their skills and establish themselves a bit more in Sucker Punch! Maybe they are established, but I’ve never heard of them, so this is their chance to prove they’re good fighters to me if nothing else. In my world, my opinion is the most important. Both of these guys have big energy and something to prove, so hopefully they fight like it.

***********************

Undercard Bout #5: Heavyweights

Hero Shima (-117) v Parta Matti (+104)

Risa’s Take:

As quickly as the fun begins, it ends, and this will be the last fight I preview for you guys before Hare decides to take back over and stop out sourcing his work. The fifth fight, and last of the undercard, is slated to be between Hero Shima and Parta Matti. Shima is the favorite for this fight, though he’s only had one win in his last five fights. A 20% win rate isn’t exactly promising. Matti on the other hand has a 60% win rate in his last five fights. Both of these guys lost their most recent fights, so I’m sure both are itching for a win to get back on track. With high energy and a big crowd, this will definitely be a good fight.

***********************

Alright folks!!!  Risa’s portion is done now and Donkey and I will join you shortly as we give you the Main Card!  We’ll be back soon!

***********************

Main Card Bout #1: Heavyweights

Ali Amir (-117) v Daniel Spong (+104)

We get the Main Card going here with some Heavyweight action and I’m not gonna lie, I’m a little disappointed in Spong here this evening.  His morale is off a bit which tells me he probably wasn’t dedicated to doing his laundry and making sure he had some clean clothes to wear while in camp leading up to this fight. Stinky bastid!  Maybe his odor will bring a KO against Amir?!?

Spong will have the wrestling advantage while giving up the edge in Muay Thai.  These two are about even in experience, with Spong having only a couple extra fights under his belt, so that shouldn’t really factor in.  Spong has been soooo, so close to getting a title shot of late, putting together strings of wins but then falling short at just the last moment during Top Contender battles. First it was a loss to Riker via KO that prevented him from getting to the big dance, then to Ted Bundy in his last fight out, lost via decision.  Obviously he hopes to turn things around here and work back towards another opportunity, but that morale says his head and heart isn’t 100% in it.

Much like Spong, Amir has been struggling with losses at the most inopportune times.  A loss to Haggar back in October removed him from a possible title fight after that and then losses to Matti and Darongo, who now fights for the title, put him a step further back.  He bounced back with a big one against the (former) beast known as Chontamenti last month with a very, very impressive and crowd pleasing submission out of nowhere!  More magic like that could have him back in the title picture sooner than later!

Donkey’s Pick: Amir via TKO (Strikes)

I really don’t like that Spong’s not fully prepared for this fight so that alone is going to be my reason to lean the other way here.  That said, I don’t expect submission magic from Amir again this evening as Spong is more than capable on the ground.  Spong has shown some nicks in the armor when it comes to KO’s though and Amir likes to dish those out as well, so that might be a match made in heaven…for Amir.

***********************

Main Card Bout #2: Welterweights

Capac vs. Barbosa II

Manco Capac (-115) v Antonio Barbosa (+102)

Both of our Welterweights here in the second fight of the Main Card are set and ready to get at it! Good, give those fans what they paid for, a great fight and a great show!  This will be their second meeting, so we get to see how they’ve adjusted and evolved over the last several months since they faced each other back on New Year’s day!

Barbosa will have the Muay Thai edge but gives up a bit with his brown belt to Capac’s black in Jiu Jitsu.  He was on a roll and looked to be heading towards a potential title shot until he ran into Mason Jones at the end of January.  A bounce back decision over Asakura last month puts him in good position to build momentum again and try to work his way back into position.  Typicall a TKO specialist, we’ll also see if he can leverage those skills tonight or if this one goes to the judges again.

For Capac, this is a big test.  He has two back to back wins again but one of the guys who became a speed bump for him to start the year was Barbosa who handed him a second loss in a row at that point.  If he can move past Barbosa this time, and avoid being put on his ass, he could make a case for a Top Contender battle in the next couple fights!  He’s a ground specialist who loves submissions, but can also get it done with striking, so we’ll see which skill set and strategy works out the best in this rematch!

Donkey’s Pick: Capac via Submission (Armbar)

I think Capac gets this rematch and sets up an eventual rubber match here.  His ground skills are considerable and I just feel like he’s going to adjust from the last fight to try to snag this one.

***********************

Main Card Bout #3: Heavyweights

Ted Bundy (+141) v Charon Lehto (-160)

014df891d6f40182ad18dbb760f17116.png

Back to our Heavyweights for the last bout before our two Main Events here!  Lehto technically has the standup advantage in both areas while giving up the ground advantage to Bundy, where he only has a purple belt to Bundy’s black.  Both are fully prepared, so we’re ready to git it done here!

Lehto will undoubtedly be looking to use his striking skills to put this one away early tonight.  In his last four fights, he’s won three and all have come to an end via KO in the first round.  Only the single loss in that run, the one to Matti that set him back from a title shot, was a KO taken rather than given and happened in the second.

Bundy has been bouncing between wins and losses lately and is trying to find some consistency to make a case for a title shot run himself. He’s so darn close, but every time he inches closer, he takes a loss as he did to Kersikov via TKO to end 2022 and then to IsMore via a surprise turnabout submission in late January.  While he’s dealt more in submissions of late, and I suspect will attempt that again tonight against the hard-hitting Lehto, he can finish with strikes as we saw from his days at SMASH under former manager Diamond Dave.

Donkey’s Pick: Lehto via TKO (Cuts)

The one thing that worries me with Bundy is a history of cuts.  Hasn’t happened so far here at SPPS, but it’s definitely there back from his days with SMASH and GAMMA.  A striker like Lehto may expose that if he doesn’t get the KO first.

***********************

Co-Main Event:

Featured Lightweight Bout

Francis Oosthuizen (-153) v Kurt Cobain (+135)

ba1a9f5ab7cee7996d4de3a73458da6d.png

Our Co-Main Event gives us a great battle potential in a first time meeting between Cobain and Oosthuizen!  Despite how long Cobain has been with us and the six fight stretch that Oost spent with us back in the day, these two haven’t met to date which is amazing given how each were upward bound in this division at almost all times!  Both are more or less fully prepped, minus a tiny bit of morale for Cobain, so I think we’re going to have a great Co-Main Event here!

Cobain has spent his entire career with Sucker Punch under three different, but all very good and accomplished, managers.  This latest go-round with Jet as his manager seems to have reinvigorated him and helped him put the two losses to Logan and Man lii under his prior manager behind him!  He’s won three in a row heading into tonight’s contest and those fights were again some top tier competition!  Lentz…Dimms…Rain!  Damn.  It should be no surprise that a win here would earn him a title shot likely in mid-April after Alderidge has gotten his opportunity.

Oost was at the top of his game four managers back when he was with SPPS his first go-round.  He was due a title shot but his manager went MIA and left him behind. He went on to earn a belt at Gamma Contenders under Proudly Presents but then lost the belt again when he went inactive for three months.  More wins came under the  next manager, and this man really hasn’t stopped his onslaught for his opponents since, with an astounding run at the moment of 11-1!!!  Only the loss to Weirdo at GC to close out 2022 marred his streak but he’s made up for it since arriving here at Sucker Punch with two solid wins over Holloway and Crenshaw!  Both via TKO.  If he wins here, he’s getting a Top Contender battle with a title shot on the line!  Hell, he may get the immediate title shot if the fan scream for it!

Donkey’s Pick: Oosthuizen via TKO (Strikes)

You’ve got two fighters here at Lightweight who, unlike what you see often in this division, can bring the power and dynamite to the cage!  Cobain has focused more on his technical striking recently, but we all know he’s got that BOOM in his back pocket. Oost clearly does.  This one is up for a toss-up I think but if I have to pick, I’m going to lean into Oost who has been on an unbelievable streak and may be back looking to cap off that chapter from before when he should have been in the title fight here at SPPS!  It seems the odds makers agree with me on this one.

***********************

Main Event:

Lightweight Championship Bout

Frankie Logan (-122) v Artturi Reinikainen (+108)

67be6cff6eeeaaa61d0be59c3dd754ee.png

Our Main Event gives us a rare opportunity to have Logan look across the cage at a brand new face he hasn’t seen before as he prepares to defend his title…again!  That’s something that I’m sure brings some fresh excitement to him and team as well, along with the fans!  Both fighters are well prepared…I expect a fight fans will be talking about for months if not years!  Especially as you get not only two of the best fighters in the business in the cage together, but two of the best managers as well in PJ Jones and Marky Mark!!!

We’ve said it all before about Logan.  He’s the greatest fighter that SPPS has ever seen.  Not only at Lightweight, but overall.  Granted, the trip to Featherweight seemed to confuzzle him a little bit, but as far as pure accomplishments and domination within a division go, he’s unparalleled!  Reinikainen definitely has his work cut out this evening against a man who is absolutely superb at taking decisions, but can also surprise when you least expect it striking or on the ground.

And that’s what makes this evening so damned intriguing!!!!  We know what Logan’s tendencies are. But, Reinikainen is also extremely good at getting decisions.  And he can throw in a KO as he did against Sukulaku two fights back.  He’s plowed through most opponents in his career and knows what it takes to be champ as he’s a former SYN Lightweight champ…twice…as well as having held the belt shortly at PFC.  He’s had two more shots more recently in his career at SYN, but couldn’t quite put it all together.  Now…the part that I said is intriguing?  He’s fallen twice to submissions since being here at Sucker Punch.  Clearly an Achilles heal.  Will Logan try to break that heal off…or go another route?

Donkey’s Pick: Logan via Submission (Armbar)

I think the chances of this turning into a Logan putting on a ground show is unlikely as he can potentially still defeat Reinikainen at his strength, technical striking.  But, to humor Hare, I’ll take the GOAT with the sub just because that would be fun time for all to be had!  Reinikainen is no slouch.  This won’t be a walk in the park for Logan unless EVERYTHING goes right and his way.

***********************

We’re all set and waiting for all the action at the Wombley Arena in London for SPPS 238 tonight ya’ll!

"I don't even know what happened last time out in there against Amir...a second of not paying attention and I paid for it with my neck.
I would call it a fluke but it was my mistake and these things happen afrer all, tough pill to swallow nevertheless, right now I am focussed on bouncing back against Manowaru but if he is not available I am willing to step against someone else on short notice before or on the same card.

Love the enthusiasm!!!  If Manowar's manager doesn't get back in here and get to it within the next day or so, we'll make an alternate fight happen for sure!

Parta "Party" Matti

"Imagine putting the #1 party man as an underdog! I mean, I understand Hiro is SPPS royalty but he's on a bit of a form skid and had just been beaten up by my training partner Noah Anderson.

Now, I know Noah takes this fighting thing a bit more seriously than I do as evidenced by his recent 50 second revenge on Ben Slam and still being the only man to ever knockdown and stop the newly crowned WVT openweight champ, Andrei Kersikov. However, I still see the guy every day. Of course I'd get that inside track on how to beat Hiro and beat him I did! I played football with his body and ended up finishing him even faster than Noah to prove that I am the #1 party machine.

Also, what's up with Daniel Spongecake? He cost my manager money by finding a way to lose again. Even the commentary from his last fight summed up exactly what I've been saying this whole time! "Spong lying in Amir's guard like a wet fish". Too true.

As for my next fight, bring it on! If Manowaru doesn't come to play, and I have enough time to be cleared by the doctors to safely party, I'll party all over Thoth's face on short notice just so he has someone to play with."

Short and direct statement from A. Mere Con following his second defeat against Mason Jones for the Welterweight belt: "I thought I did enough for getting three rounds and get it via decision but seems like I had it wrong and we ended with a controversy from the judges, but it is what it is, Mason Jones proved he's a real tough motherf$$$er and an elite fighter, I want to wish him the best and hope to meet him again before 2024, but I am also considering about retirement, we'll see!"

Seems like We won't be partying together at least for now Parta, someone has to do the Devils work and sent some Outlaw to where they came from.

SPPS 242 short notice bout is on!
I wanna thank the matchmakers and the owner of the SPPS for keeping my place on the card, seems like the odds makers are not on my side so hopefully some people will get that underdog money soon, TUNE IN!
