I'll add this post to the first page, but I thought with the world cup group system being agreed upon, I'll explain how that's going to work.

  • There will be 8 groups of 4.
  • Each fighter in the group will fight each other once (3 fights each, 6 in total).
  • The top 2 fighters from their group will go through to the 16 man knockout tournament
  • A win gets 3 points
  • A draw gets 1 point
  • A loss gets 0 points
  • In the event of a tie at the end of the group stage, finishes and duration will be factored in. It's hard to give all the scenarios right now, but a very easy example is if both fighters have a draw, one decision win and a stoppage win, the one who got the fastest stoppage win will be ranked first.
  • The winners from each group will be matched against the runners up from each group to start the 16 man knockout tournament.
  • There will be 14 days between each fight.
  • The fighters will be matched on the existing Highland cards, of which 6 slots are available on each card, so it won't all be run at the same time.
  • The final is currently scheduled for February 6th, with the winner having fought 7 times by the end.

Highland $6 Million Tournament

Group Stage Matches for Nov. 26th

Round 2   Group G

Mahoo (Hare Rumpler) vs Brown (Ben Greedy)

Mahoo (1-0) takes on Brown (0-1) in our first match of the evening. Mahoo gives up a good 22cm and 12lbs at normal weight to Brown, who will clearly have a significant reach advantage and will be looking to use that to employ his wonderful Boxing skills. Mahoo on the other hand won't be wanting to stay on the outside or on having the fight stay standing at all, as he will no doubt be looking for a submission with his more advanced wrestling skill and BJJ Blue Belt. If Brown can keep the fight going standing and stuff those takedowns he should come out on top, but if not look for Mahoo to make the big man tap out.

Luciano (Kento King) vs Arsenault (Joe Outlier)

Luciano comes in looking to extend his winning streak to 2 while Arsenault looks to level his record at 1-1. Luciano likes to clinch up where he should have better control and batter his opponent with Muay Thai strikes. Arsenault meanwhile has a reach advantage that he will be looking to put to good use with his superior Boxing skills. This should prove to be a stand up, drag 'em out brawl, where both men will be looking to trade shots. The crowd should be entertained for sure from this fight!

Round 2   Group H

Douche (Ben Hornby) vs Rafferty (Ryan Rafferty)

Douche and Rafferty come into this fight both searching for their first win of the tournament, knowing their chances of moving forward likely depend on this fight. Douche will likely continue his game plan of takedown and then beatdown using his BJJ Purple Belt and remarkable Wrestling skills. Rafferty on the other hand will want to stuff those takedown attempts and keep on his feet where he is proficient in Boxing and remarkable at Muay Thai. A classic grappler vs striker matchup right here where either Rafferty will face packing his bags or Douche will be washed out! Stay tuned!

Murphy (Aydan The Wandering Spirit) vs Finn (G Wad)

This matchup raises the stakes for the round as both men come into the cage at 1-0. This should be a tightly contested ground battle where both men are equal in the Wrestling department, but Murphy holds a Purple Belt over Finn's Blue Belt in BJJ. Finn managed to eke out a decision his first fight, will he be able to hold off Murphy who got a first round finish already in the tourney? We will see on Friday.
