TWW – The Finale – Recapping the year in Tycoon

The previous year in tycoon was hectic and jam back with thrills, spills and everything in between. TWW has been blessed through-out the year to have had some of the finest writers in tycoon publish their work such as Mannetosen, K-Rad and Listerman. It has sort of turned into a one man show over the past seven months. I’d like to thank you all for putting up with some sloppy writing and mediocre reporting skills over the course of the past few years. Anyway enough of the soppy shit here are some of the big talking points of the year.

The Dominance of Dustin Douglas…

Douglas started the year off with a bang in a crushing victory over Punani in the Evo vs Ascension event putting him comfortably inside the top five heavyweights in the game. While playing the waiting game for a shot at the Evo Heavyweight Championship, he took two super fights the first being in the now defunct BFE against their long time champion Zack Dio. He once again prevailed with a first round knockout of the long standing BFE champion. The second was against Syn heavyweight champion and Lance Templeton’s own Ben Grimm. In the fight that saw him take over the #1 Heavyweight in the world title, he dominated the fight finishing off Grimm in the first round. Now it was back to Evo to take care of business and get that HW crown.

In one of the most hyped fights of the year Ken Oath the HW champion took on Douglas for the strap and the potential to be named the #1 p4p fighter in the game. The fight alas didn’t live up to the hype as Oath managed to secure the early takedown but couldn’t do anything with it. The fight not to long after got stood up before Douglas put Oath on his ass and out for the count; although not everything from here on out would be as smooth sailing for the new #1 p4p king.

Lester vs Dustin was one of the more underappreciated fights in tycoon this year. Lester started off strong battering Dustin from pillar to post for the first three rounds. Douglas though showed that inside his chest beat the heart of a lion as he came roaring back in the fourth round. In the fifth and final round of the fight Dustin came out knowing he had to finish the fight. Lester was out on his feet, completely spent after the first three rounds. Douglas knew time was elapsing quickly and started throwing haymakers until one clipped Lester and sent him down. Lester quickly stood up only to be levelled with an uppercut that JDS would have been proud of leaving Lester completely out cold on the mat.

Not too long after that the summer Olympics were announced and Douglas was obvious choice to take home the Heavyweight Gold. Yet again Douglas was drawn into a war against Gale and in the first round found himself put on his ass by Gale. Gale continued to pour it on through rounds two and three looking for the finish. Once again Douglas in the fourth round came out swinging and landing as Gale looked shattered. The old Cro Cop trick worked for Douglas as he looked low and blasted a huge head kick which left Gale on his back wondering what year it was.

His next fight was a battle against the former #1 p4p fighter Victor Creed who had just come out of retirement for the Olympics. Creed held his own for the first three minutes before Douglas’s body shots started to take their toll on former fighter of the year. Douglas landed a headkick with sent Creed down to the ground. Creed barely got back up before he was hit with a left hook which put him out cold. Douglas was moving on to the finals in what was classed as an easy win against the GAMMA representative. He won of course securing the heavyweight Olympic gold and the right to call himself one of the best heavyweights of all time.

Douglas first opponent after the Olympics was former foe Ken Oath. Oath this time managed to secure three takedowns against Douglas in the first round but all of them were stood up; some claim that the referee was bribed to do this. Douglas found his footing late in the first round putting Oath out cold once again with a huge uppercut. This fight led to a super fight against Brick Tires the newly crowned Syn HW champion. Douglas dominated the first three rounds before Brick started to come back and looked to be getting a head of steam going into the fifth round. Douglas however had different plans and came out landing big shots, his determination to leave this out of the judges hands was evident as he connected with two big uppercuts in the clinch. The first uppercut put Brick on the ground before propping him back up again and landing another huge uppercut leaving Brick seeing stars.

Next up was the most hyped fight of the year against the outspoken Jon Hess and his manager Mannetosen. After doing the “Chael Sonnen” and talking his way into a big fight, Hess was very much the underdog in the fight. Hess came out swinging like the wild man he is landing big body shots to Douglas who was unable to breathe after the first minute due to a broken rib. Hess landed a big head kick which sent Douglas down for the first time. Douglas got back up and stumbled forward clearly shaken by the shot. Douglas was forced to drop his hands to protect his body from the punishing body shots which Hess was throwing. Hess seized the opportunity to land another ferocious head kick which sent Douglas down again. Douglas got up clearly groggy with the fans shouting for the fight to be stopped before Hess landed a huge uppercut sending Douglas on the mat again… As the referee ran over to stop the fight Hess landed a left jab followed by a beauty of a right hand which left Douglas on the ground, out cold for the final time of his career.

Douglas retired after this fight as did his manager Soyster. Hess has gone on to have an up and down career so far after the fight. Douglas will go down as one of the best heavyweights in the game (despite what I said previously to goad him into the fight against Hess).

Bennet, Tonal and Womba

At the start of the year all the hype was going towards the 2013 fighter of the year Womba and the rising star and Ascension LHW Tournament winner Scotty Bennet. Scotty was undefeated in his career at the start of 2014 and looking to put his mark on the Tycoon world. He was quickly snapped up by Syn and offered an instant title shot against another young gun and ITFL individual winner Veron. Scotty showed his class in that fight coming back after a rough first two rounds to take a unanimous decision against Veron before fight a fight against the huge underdog Otto Jokinen. In a fight which can only be put in the class of Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen or Condit vs McDonald, Scotty showed why he was a true contender. Scotty trailing four rounds to zero and the fight going into its final thirty seconds threw a Hail Mary and it landed in the form of a brutal punch combination which sent Otto to the ground. Scotty unleashed bombs from Otto’s guard until the ref stepped in to stop the fight. Otto looked furious at the stoppage but they were no hiding the relief in Bennet’s face. He knew that fight would set him up against Womba.

Womba at the start of the year was still on the same roll which named him fighter of the year defeating Budo Rei before he faced one of the greatest Middleweights in the game, Matt Murdock. In an underwhelming performance, Womba secured the unanimous decision and some were starting to question Womba’s desire to continue fighting. He knew that Scotty would be a very dangerous fight and the highly anticipated match up would now finally take place for the Evo LHW championship. In the fight which would secure the number one pound for pound fighter in the world Scotty and Womba traded rounds with Scotty taking rounds two and four and Womba taking rounds one and five. The decision would go down to the razor tight round three. All three judges gave that round to Scotty Bennet who had secured the number one pound for pound fighter and the first undefeated fighter to secure that title since Golden Glory.

Negotiations to get the greatest fighter of all time Jeremy Tonal out of retirement for a super fight had been on-going for a few months. He was originally wanted to fight Scotty Bennet after the Womba victory. Bennet however lost in his very next fight to Devlin Styles and that threw a spanner in the works. Womba however won his next fight and it set up the arguably the biggest fight in tycoon history; Womba vs Tonal. The fight started as most expected it to, Womba secured the takedown and kept Tonal on the ground for most of the first round. The tides turned in the second round as Tonal secured the clinch against Womba and laid one of the most brutal beatdowns inside of the clinch. The official clock said that it was three minutes and fifty one seconds that Tonal knocked out Womba but it could have been anywhere from the second minute. Tonal pretty much propped him up in the corner and laid waste to Womba. A rematch of the two titans took place with Womba returning the favour and finishing Tonal via ground and pound.

It was the last time we seen Tonal in the cage and Womba retired not too long after, both warriors no doubt are the greatest of all time. Bennet on the other hand went off the rails due to his declining skills and is now under control of Mentor… yeah speaking of him.

The GAMMA and Mentor Scandal

Ah the fun and games which started with Mentor. He basically was trying to shit all over Syn because of the Olympics; which btw Syn won. Louie outted Mentor for using multi accounts in order to get ahead of the competition. Having multi’s could have been forgiven if it wasn’t for the fact he said “Mike gave me permission” which of course Mike never. He then posted an apology thread for his actions until a mass mail sent out to his alliance Legion of Doom showing his true colours. Investigations went into Mentor and it was quickly found out that he is a scam artist, you know those guys who sell penis pills? Chances are if the message is in Russian it was sent from Mentor.

Mentor was given the punishment of losing his multi accounts, org hype and a 10mil tycoon fine. His reputation is completely in tatters and they are no coming back for the scumbag. I am still surprised Mike hasn’t forced him to take away the link from his GAMMA website he has set up. Hopefully in 2015 he will disappear after his org goes down the shitter. I don’t want to spend much time on the scumbag to be fair – he was a dark mark on what was a great year in Tycoon.

Bowser's November To Remember

On the first of November they were high fives all round in the BHP camp as Bowser Big Dog took the number one managers trophy yet somehow it seemed insignificant compared to his other achievement. Rinky Spider, Brick Tires and Bowser Stormcrow all stood at the top of the podium as the top three fighters in the game. This achievement lasted through-out November occasionally one fighter dropping to fourth before springing back up after their next fight.

This was the first time and quite possibly the last time an achievement like this has been done and as I have said previously it is the biggest single accomplishment in the game to date. In early December however the jubilation faltered after losing Bowser lost to Pluto before avenging that loss and Brick Tires lost to Leo in the Olympic’s first round.

The Summer Olympics

This could have been the best tournament ever to have run if it wasn’t for a certain individual who has been named and shamed earlier in this episode. They were a lot of awesome fights, upsets and some big beatdowns through-out the Summer Olympics. I am trying to keep these now brief but they are a TWW article with all the entrants into the Olympics and another thread with the winners of the first tycoon Olympics. The Winter Olympics is now on going and looks like it could be a permanent fixture in Tycoon from now on.

Legendary Managers Retire

Despite the game membership raising to over seven thousand members (insert mentor multi joke here) the game itself has lost some great managers. Opa Jokinen and Mannetosen were two of the biggest losses this year. Mannetosen retired while his roster was in its prime and Opa alas I do not know what happened to him. If a fellow FinnFighter knows why could they post in here, if its personal reasons, just say personal reasons. Activity from some other legendary managers has also dwindled and they look to be going out the door, however…

Abundance Of New Managers

As old managers head out the door thankfully an influx of new and returning managers have come back to the game. Managers such as Wolf, Bjorn, Kanis and many, many others (they are too many people to name and a lot I do not know. These managers have sprung some life back into the forums with their storylines of fighters and trash talking. It appears most of these new managers are here to stay so it should be interesting to keep up with their development.

The Fight Orgs

It has been business as usual for Syn, Ascension and Evolution and managing to keep their power three title. Heroic shut its doors during the summer and K-1 Dynasty closed at the tail end of the year. In Heroics place has risen a new contender MFN with a great roster and talent to compete against the power three in 2015. Team Thomas FC and CEC remain great orgs and left the GEG after the whole Mentor shit. As I look just now, NGF also appears to be closing its doors in the not too distant future as its talent level dwindles down and Dominace is merging to Ascension leaving a gap in the market for another org to rise up.

The Top Fighter Managers

Through-out the year as rosters got overhauled seen some great competition for the top manager rankings, I’ll name the TWW awards of the year in the next section but a tip of the hat to all the managers named in for manager of the year.

Would be nice to see it mentioned and maybe predictions on who he thinks is going to win it and maybe who he feels well go on to have a great career.

Well all credit to Dinooo for what he has covered here of course. He didn't have a fighter in the ITFL this season so he probably didn't have as much interest. I suppose any of us could step up and write up something like a season review on the team tourney and a preview on the ind. coming up shortly. I'm not a writer myself so I'll bow out of that but it would be cool to see. Shortfuse did a great job during the season giving us previews so I'm happy and thankful we got those as well.
