shortfuse122829 Posted June 12, 2013 Author Report Share Posted June 12, 2013 ITFL Review – Week 7 Part 1 International Team Fighting League came to you live from the Camden Conference center Sunday June 9th, 2013 for week 7 of our team action. Our marquee match-up of the week is between Team Kaiser and Team Reaper Combat-wear as they’re the two group leaders coming into this week’s fights. In other team action, The Replacements team takes on Team Misfts, Team TFP Graphics takes on Team Hells Balls and last but not least, Team Syndicate Nutrition takes on the Aces of Spades. Let’s have a look at how the action went down! Bam Boon 1 (12-12) vs. Biff Biffman (26-7-1) Kicking off the under-card tonight is a battle between two fighters who would be looking to stand and bang in this one when Bam Boon 1 took on Biff Biffman. The first round got under-way and Boon 1 came out the aggressor looking to open up with strikes right from the opening bell. Biffman wasn’t a fan of the pace his opponent was pushing and closed the distance and engaged the clinch position. The fighters went back and forth against the cage for close to two minutes before Boon 1 circled away and continued to stalk after his opponent with punches and kicks. At the end of five minutes Bam Boon was clearly up one round to nothing. The two fighters came out looking to stand and bang again in round 2 but this time Boon’s aggressiveness was leaving him open to big counter shots by Biffman and it seemed as though the tide in this fight was starting to change. We headed into the last round with an even fight. Biffman started the round with a nice body shot, and then after a missed hook by his opponent landed a nice counter leg kick. Biffman again moved forward and buckled his opponent’s leg with a big kick and as Boon moved forward to throw some strikes he ate a big counter uppercut that ended his night. Biffman def. Boon 1 by 3rd round TKO Pete Damato (22-17) vs. Si Robertson (21-4) Team TFP Graphics come into the fight with a 1-0 lead after the big TKO by Biffman, so Damato would look to try to even the score here with a victory as he took on Si Robertson. The first round got under-way and Damato came out with a sense of urgency as he pushed the pace of the fight landing his strikes early in the round. A big flurry of punches backed Robertson into the cage and the referee looked like stopping it briefly before he circled away. He got his feet caught in a tangle and ate an upper-cut as he did so and then Damato threw a big right kick, getting Robertson to drop his hands to protect his body but unfortunately it was really a high kick which lifted Robertson off his feet and knocked him unconscious. Team Hells Balls evens up the team score at 1-1 with the big victory. Damato def. Robertson by 1st round KO Dan Smith (18-9) vs. Latka Gravas (23-15-1) Up next is our first team battle between the Aces of Spades and Syndicate Nutrition as two elite kick-boxers in Dan Smith and Latka Gravas squared off. There was no feeling out process in this fight as both fighters came out swinging right from the opening bell. Dan Smith closed the distance and engaged the clinch position in the first minute of the round and the two fighters went back and forth against the cage for close to a minute before Gravas circled off the cage and we were back to striking at a distance. The two fighters traded shots back and forth for the better part of a minute before Smith would again close the distance and engage the clinch. They’d spend most of the rest of the round against the cage and we entered round 2 with Gravas up a round. Both fighters came out trying to get control of the striking department early in round 2 but Latka Gravas decided to engage the clinch position this time. He didn’t stay there long though quickly breaking the clinch and going back to striking at range. Dan Smith looked like he was doing better striking this round then he did in the last round and at the 3 minute mark of the round he closed the distance and clinched and the round ended with the 2 fighters trading strikes against the cage. In round 3, Smith quickly engaged the clinch position and the two traded shots against the cage for the majority of the round. At the end of 15 minutes we had a very closely contested fight but it was Gravas who would put his team up 1-0 with the decision victory. Gravas def. Smith by 29-28 Unanimous Decision Dynamite Nixon (20-14) vs. Dan Leighty (17-7-1) Our second straight contest between the Aces of Spades and Team Syndicate Nutrition as Dan Leighty would look to use his elite kick-boxing game and heavy hands to get the victory against the well-rounded Dynamite Nixon. The first round got under-way and Leighty came out landing his strikes early in the round as he tried to back his opponent up. Nixon was finding some success with his strikes in the first minute as well but was really looking to get this fight to the ground. Dan Leighty really started to wear his opponent down with brutal kicks over the next couple of minutes while also stuffing a total of 4 takedown attempts in the round. We started round 2 and Leighty again came out landing big shots and Nixon was desperately trying to get the fight to the ground now. Nixon closed the distance and engaged the clinch to try to slow his opponent down some and drag this fight to the ground but neither plan was working as Leighty started to work his opponent over against the cage while keeping this fight on the feet. Nixon attempted to stop the barrage of strikes he was eating on the feet by clinching several times in the 2nd round but entering the 3rd it was clear he would need a finish if he had any chance at winning this fight. Unfortunately for him it would be Dan Leighty who found a way to finish the fight after stalking his already exhausted opponent down for the better part of the 3 minutes in the final round before landing a nasty uppercut that ended the night. Leighty def. Nixon by 3rd round TKO Jarrod Batchelor (12-4-1) vs. Artie Lange (16-12-1) The first team match-up between the Replacements Team and Team Misfits rounded out our under-card as Jarod Batchelor took on everybody’s favorite punching bag in Artie Lange. The first round got under-way and Lange came out sloppy rushing forward and throwing big looping hay-makers that were missing their mark early. Batchelor started off by trying to take his opponents legs away from him by opening up his kick game. Jarrod closed the distance and engaged the clinch position a little after a minute passed in the round but decided not to stay there long and separated back to striking range. Lange looked like he started to find his range a little better in the striking department once the two fighters separated from the clinch but he wasn’t being efficient enough with his strikes and eventually gassed himself out. Batchelor saw his opponent start taking deep breaths and immediately amped up the pressure eventually landing a beautiful combination that dropped Lange and then waved him back up to his feet. Once Lange got to his feet, Jarrod Batchelor again pushed forward with a one-two combination that knocked his opponent out-cold. Batchelor def. Lange by 1st round KO Juan Sebastian Veron (12-5) vs. Dirk Diggler (23-8) Our main-card got underway with our second straight fight between the Replacements Team and Team Misfits as the former Olympic wrestler and black belt in jiu-jitsu Veron would look to get this fight to the mat when he took on elite kick-boxer Dirk Diggler. The bell rang and the first round got started with Diggler looking to land kicks early before closing the distance and clinching his opponent against the cage. Veron went for a takedown against the cage and forced Diggler to separate and go back to striking at range. Veron was getting the better of the striking exchanges in the first round before landing a really nice takedown into side-control with a little over a minute left in the round, and the fighters would end the first still on the ground. Veron came out and landed another takedown into side-control in the opening minute of round 2 and would work his opponent over on the ground spending the last minute and a half in the mount position. Entering round 3 it was clear Diggler was going to need a finish to win the fight but he just couldn’t get anything going early in the 3rd round and at the two minute mark Veron again took this fight to the ground with a takedown into half-guard. Once again Veron would get to the mount position and finish the round on top of his opponent reigning down big strikes on his way to a dominant decision victory. Veron def. Diggler by 30-27 Unanimous Decision Maximus Scott (30-12) vs. Karl Thomas (21-10) Up next the Misfits look to avoid falling in a 3-0 hole when Karl Thomas would take on Maximus Scott. Karl Thomas came out looking to close the distance and engage the clinch position early in the round but Scott would avoid his attempt and after throwing a missed upper-cut Scott partially landed a nice head kick that opened up a cut on Karl Thomas. After eating the head-kick Thomas would successfully clinch his opponent against the cage this time but it didn’t take long for Scott to circle away. Thomas would eat a jab which looked like it possibly broke his nose as blood started to seep out. Karl again tried to close the distance to engage the clinch position but Scott countered with a big upper-cut that really hurt his opponent. Maximus Scott saw the opportunity and planted his feet to throw a big left hand down the middle which dropped his opponent to the canvas and after piling on the pressure Scott forced the referee to step in and save his opponent. Scott def. Thomas by 1st round TKO Viktor Kafka (21-11-1) vs. Thomas Billington (28-13-2) In our next fight Viktor Kafka would look to get Team Kaiser off to a good start against Group A leader Team Reaper Combat-wear when he’d take on the Olympic wrestler Thomas Billington. Kafka would come out aggressive in the first round but after a missed leg kick, Billington countered with a takedown into guard. Thomas managed to slip effortlessly into side-control where he landed some nice ground and pound before the referee stood the fighters up due to lack of activity on the ground. The two fighters traded strikes on the feet for the next minute before Billington again took the fight to the ground and that’s where the round ended. Viktor Kafka came out and started to find his range a little bit more in the 2nd round as the two fighters stood and traded for the first 3 minutes of round 2 before Billington closed the distance and got a nice trip takedown into side-control. After a close 2nd round we entered the final round with a fight that could potentially go either way but an early takedown by Billington in the 3rd round probably secured the fight. He finished the round in the mount position reigning down big shots on his way to a decision victory. Billington def. Kafka by 30-27 Unanimous Decision Geralt of Ravia (14-5) vs. Dragon Slayer (10-3-1) After Kaiser lost in the previous match-up Geralt would need a victory to avoid falling into a 2-0 hole when he took on the man tied for the individual points lead in Dragon Slayer. The first round got under-way and Slayer came out landing heavy shots early in the fight. Geralt tried to wear his opponent down by throwing leg kicks but wasn’t able to find any success with his strikes in the first couple minutes. On the complete opposite side of the spectrum was Slayer who seemed to be landing strikes at will in the opening round and after clipping Geralt with a big right hand that sent him spinning to the mat, Dragon Slayer got the back mount and a few follow up strikes forced the referee to step in and save Geralt. Slayer def. Geralt by 1st round TKO I.P. Daily (9-10) vs. Tweedle Dee (26-5-1) Our main event of the evening is next when Team Syndicate Nutrition would look to secure the team win this week by making it 3 straight wins when Tweedle Dee took on I.P. Daily. Tweedle Dee came out the aggressor to start the opening round and was finding a lot of success landing with his strikes early on. Right before the one minute mark in the first round, Dee drove in for a nice takedown into side-control and would work some nice ground and pound from that position before Daily would escape back to his feet. That would be no problem as Dee continued to push forward and find a lot of success with his strikes for the last minute of the round. The second round was much of the same as Tweedle Dee was dominating the striking game for the first half of the round before landing a takedown into half-guard. He’d work his opponent over on the ground for the majority of the round, only allowing Daily to escape with less than a minute on the clock, and he’d go into round 3 with a convincing lead. Tweedle Dee must’ve been able to tell between rounds he had his opponent because he came out aggressive in round 3 and landed a big hook to the side of Daily’s head in the opening moments that rocked him. Daily tried to push forward to land something but ate a perfectly time counter hook that knocked him out cold and Team Syndicate Nutrition secured a team victory this week and would look for a possible sweep.
