shortfuse122829 Posted June 12, 2013 Author Report Share Posted June 12, 2013 ITFL Review – Week 7 Part 2 We’re back for part two of our week 7 review for International Team Fighting League and we came to you live from the Wombley arena also in London, England. Team Syndicate Nutrition and the Replacement teams have already secured team wins this week both coming into this event with 3-0 leads over the Aces of Spades and Team Misfits respectively. Dragon Slayer continued his impressive run in this tournament, helping Team Reaper bring in a 2-0 lead from event 1, and lastly Team TFP Graphics and Team Hells Balls Nutrition are tied 1-1. Let’s have a look at how the action went down! Andre Toulon (15-13) vs. Greco Roman (13-11) Our 2nd event was kicked off with a striker vs. grappler match-up when Andre Toulon and Greco Roman squared off in an effort to break the tie between their two teams. Andre Toulon came out the aggressor in round 1, looking to score points on the feet and put his opponent on the defensive early in the fight. Roman started to turn things around on the feet in the second half of the round before ducking down and landing a nice double leg takedown into guard. Toulon did a nice job avoiding damage and forced the ref to step in and stand the fight up. Greco Roman closed the distance and engaged the clinch position and the two fighters battled it out against the cage to end the round. After winning the first round, Toulon came out having a hard time finding his range early in round 1 and Roman ducked down for another takedown before the 1 minute mark of the 2nd round. Roman did a nice job working his ground game and was able to keep Toulon on his back for the entirety of the round. We entered round 3 with an even fight and Roman was desperately trying to get the fight to the ground with 2 failed takedown attempts in the first minute of the round. His persistence paid off when a right hand missed by Toulon and Roman countered with a nice takedown into guard. Andre did a nice job avoiding damage this time and forced the referee to step in and stand the fight up, but Roman wouldn’t give up and got a takedown into half-guard about a minute later. Toulon finished the round on his back and we headed to the judge’s for a decision. Roman def. Toulon by 29-28 Unanimous Decision Garrick Ballantyne (21-19) vs. Edward Richtofen (8-2) After a win in the first fight of our card Team Hells Balls would send out its elite kick-boxer Garrick Ballantyne in hopes to secure the team victory this week as he’d face another elite kick-boxer in Edward Richtofen. The bell rings for round 1 and we are under-way and Richtofen came out as the aggressor which forced his opponent to close the distance and engage the clinch early in the round. Garrick Ballantyne looked to get his muay-thai game going against the cage by landing a few knees to the body and a nice elbow over the top that cut Richtofen. The two fighters traded shots back and forth against the cage for the entirety of the round. Edward Richtofen came out aggressive in round 2 after dropping a close first round and he was a little sloppy at first eating a counter by his opponent. Richtofen really started to find his range then and after using a few kicks to set up his hands, he landed a big right hand that sent Ballantyne to the mat. Richtofen jumped into the back-mount and after a few follow up shots the referee was diving in for the save. Richtofen def. Ballantyne by 2nd round TKO Michael Rodalgo (23-13) vs. Dakota Royer (31-14) The Misfits had already secured the team victory after part 1 of our weekend, but would look for a sweep when they sent out BJJ black-belt Michael Rodgalgo to take on the Misfits Dakota Royer. Our first round got under-way and Royer came out looking to land big shots early in the fight in an effort to slow down the wrestling of his opponent. Rodalgo was doing a nice job avoiding shots while landing a few of his own on the feet before closing the distance, clinching up and landing a nice trip takedown into half-guard. Dakato Royer was desperately trying to control from the bottom but Rodalgo took his time and set up a nice kimura attempt. Royer tried his best to defend it but as soon as Rodalgo stepped over his head he had no chance and tapped out. Rodalgo def. Royer by 1st round Submission (kimura) Helio James (25-13) vs. Karl Denke (26-10-1) Up next is the 5th and deciding fight between Team TFP Graphics and Team Hells Balls Nutrition when Karl Denke squared off against Helio James. Team Hells Balls could get their first team victory of the season with a win in this fight. Both fighters came out having a difficult time finding their range early in the fight and James closed the distance and engaged the clinch. Denke quickly broke the position and circled back to striking at range. James seemed to be getting the better of the striking exchanges so Denke shot in and landed a takedown with a little over a minute left in the round. Helio James had a pretty active guard with quite a few submission attempts and after a close first round James was up 1 going into the next round. Denke came out swinging wildly to start round 2 and James countered with a nice takedown into guard. Denke did a nice job controlling his opponent and forced a quick ref stand-up. The two spent most of the round at a distance exchanging strikes but did briefly clinch-up against the cage and Karl Denke did manage a takedown just before the end of the round, but another close round was edged out by James and we entered the final round with Denke needing a finish. Karl came out aggressive in round 3 and was finding a lot of success with his strikes but after a missed upper-cut James landed a counter takedown into guard. Denke stifled his opponent’s offense and got the quick ref stand-up that he needed before continuing to pour the pressure on his opponent. Denke landed a nice head-kick that rocked his opponent and then after eating an upper-cut by his opponent landed another monster head-kick that knocked James out-cold and he secured the come-back victory. Denke def. James by 3rd round KO Boy Bubby (15-4-1) vs. Jan Dudek (23-8-1) Team Reaper Combat-wear looking to secure the team victory this week with a victory here by their young gun Boy Bubby as he takes on Jan Dudek with another $100,000.00 bet on the line between managers. The first round got under-way and both fighters were landing with their strikes early before Dudek closed the distance and engaged the clinch. The two fought for position against the cage but then Bubby slipped around and took Dudek’s back and then picked him up and suplexed him over his head to the mat. Boy Bubby worked his opponent over with ground and pound from his back for the rest of the round in a dominating round 1. After a short break our 2nd round got under-way and Dudek did a much better job in this round of keeping the fight on the feet, but it didn’t seem to matter much because he was out-struck by his opponent at range for the entirety of the round. We entered our 3rd and final round with Dudek needing a finish or his manager would be out another 100 grand, but Bubby spent the last 5 minutes of the fight out-working and out-landing Dudek all the way to the final bell. Bubby def. Dudek by 30-27 Unanimous Decision Colin Hendry (24-10-1) vs. Jax Teller (13-6) Colin Hendry would be hoping to secure the sweep for the Replacements Team despite a minor injury coming into the fight as he took on Team Misfit’s last hope at a point this week in Jax Teller. Our first round got under-way and both fighters came out swinging in this fight. Teller was getting the better of the striking early in the fight it seemed as he was using his reach advantage nicely. A big shot landed by Teller opened up a taunt on Hendry and Teller was taunting him that he was going to be knocked out. Jax Teller came out and clinched Hendry against the cage early in the 2nd round but Hendry was having none of it and separated back to the center of the cage. Teller tried to instigate the clinch several more times in the round but seemed content striking at a distance as well as he was definitely out-striking his opponent. A big straight right hand landed late in the round and it seemed to really hurt Hendry but he managed to survive until the end of the round. A big combination landed right for Teller right at the start of round 3 and that should’ve been a sign to come for Hendry. Just past the minute mark of the 3rd round Teller landed a nasty upper-cut that came out of nowhere and a few follow up strikes forced the referee to step in and save Hendry. Jax Teller comes through in the clutch and helps his team avoid being swept. Teller def. Hendry by 3rd round TKO Sir Jecht (13-7) vs. Jeremy Voda (14-7) With just two fights left in the Team Aces of Spades vs. Team Syndicate Nutrition showdown Jeremy Voda would look to stay among the point leaders and get his team on the board with a victory here tonight when he faced Olympic wrestler Sir Jecht. The first round got under-way and Voda landed an early takedown into guard. Jecht did a nice job controlling his opponent and avoiding damage and forced the referee to step in and stand these two back up. Voda landed another takedown into half-guard almost immediately and spent the rest of the round working his ground strikes to set up his submission attempts. In the second round it was Jecht who came out and landed the early takedown and that answered the question if he’d play from his opponent’s guard. That ended up being a bad decision on his part as Voda immediately started working his submission game and before the 2 minute mark of the round grabbed a slick arm-bar from the bottom and forced his opponent to tap. Voda def. Jecht by 2nd round Submission (arm-bar) Sergei Skylar (21-4-1) vs. Rage Blade (30-19-2) After a surprising draw last week Skylar would look to get back in the win column and get his team another point when he squared off against Rage Blade. Both fighters came out aggressive in the first round as they tried to be the guy who dictated the pace of the striking game. Blade missed with a double jab 90 seconds into the round and got countered with a nice takedown into side-control. He’d manage to force a ref stand-up a little over a minute later but would give up another takedown into side-control before the end of the round. Skylar came out and landed another takedown early in the 2nd round but Blade was doing a really nice job avoiding the ground and pound from the shorter opponent and forcing the referee to step in and stand the fight back up. Skylar entered the 3rd round up 2-0 and Blade would need to make something happen in the final round. Blade came out looking to clinch early in the 3rd and got put on his butt by another counter takedown from his opponent. Blade would again force a quick ref stand-up but after a missed combination was again countered with a takedown and Skylar’s wrestling seemed to carry him to a decision after 15 minutes was up. Skylar def. Blade by 30-27 Unanimous Decision Frank Esposito (35-13) vs. Katsuro Sato (21-10) The team victory was already in the bag for Team Reaper Combat-wear as they sent Frank Esposito out for the co-main event of the evening. Katsuro Sato would hope to get this fight to the ground in hopes of avoiding a possible team sweep. The bell rang for round 1 and we were under-way and Sato came out the aggressor but was struggling to find his range early in the fight and ate a few counter shots for his troubles. Sato did manage to get the fight to the ground about half-way through the round but Esposito did a nice job controlling from the bottom and forced a stand-up 30 seconds later before out-striking his opponent until the round ended. In our 2nd round both fighters were struggling to find their range so Esposito instigated the clinch position. Frank really started to open up from the clinch with big knees and punches landing before Sato drug the fight to the ground into guard. Katsuro Sato would try to work his submission game from the bottom but Esposito did a nice job avoiding any danger and got the fight stood back up and the two briefly traded on the feet before the round ended. We entered the 3rd round and Esposito looked to have this fight in the bag unless Sato could make something happen. Sato managed to land a takedown two minutes into the round but he was going to need a finish here. Esposito managed to land a nice sweep and rode out the rest of the round laying on top of his opponent. Esposito def. Sato by 30:27, 30:27 & 29:28 Unanimous Decision Luka Beck (19-5-1) vs. Dennis Wise (27-9) Up next is our main event of the evening and Luka Beck would be Kaiser’s last hope at avoiding a sweep this week in a fight he asked for as he takes on Dennis Wise. Our first round got under-way and Beck came out the aggressor but seemed to just be running into everything his opponent was throwing. After a nice punch to the body by his opponent Luka Beck started to really breathe heavily. That just forced Wise to turn on the pressure and Dennis Wise started to unleash a fury of strikes on Beck. Wise landed a big right hand two minutes into the round that sent Beck tumbling to the mat for the first time in his career and really rocked him. Wise continue to press forward and landed a nasty hook that dropped Beck to the canvas again and after a few follow up shots from side-control the referee dove in to save Beck as he was finished for the first time in his career. That was a big statement by Dennis Wise and his team by securing a sweep with that stoppage victory. Wise def. So he bleeds like a bitch once a month.. Goes to show hom much time I have spent scouting the bum. Doesn't matter much either way he's still a loser after the fight. You gotta come at Stu harder than that!!! Come on !!! You can win this. Make that motherfucker fear your fighter! You will receive 3 pts for a KO victory, 2 pts for a DEC victory and 1 point for a DRAW 2. Individual points will also be kept track of, the top 16 fighters based on total points will go on to a single elimination tournament (after the team 1 ends). Si Robertson vs. Dakato Royer - Both fighters come into this fight on losing streaks. Robertson was a late replacement and is 0-2 so far in ITFL while his opponent Royer has lost 3 of his last 4 fights. Two managers representing the "city of brotherly love" this should be a pure striking contest and I favor Royer to wear him down and get the victory via KO in the 2nd round. 2. Biff Biffman vs. Artie Lange - Biff Biffman is another late replacement for Team TFP Graphics and is 2-1 so far since leaving a K-1 career to join ITFL. Artie Lange is 2-5 so far this season in ITFL but 4 of his 5 losses have been via KO and despite being the more skilled striker going into this fight I am going to go with Biffman's fight ending power to get to the glass chin of Mr. Lange. Biffman via 1st round KO 3. Edward Richtofen vs. Karl Thomas - Edward Richtofen is a striking phenom with great power in his hands. All 8 of his career victories have come via KO and his only 2 losses in brief career have happened in this tournament. The first he was wrestled to a decision and the other was stopped by our points leader Dragon Slayer. His opponent Karl Thomas has had a roller-coaster ride of a season going 3-4 so far. After almost quitting the tournament Thomas had a nice victory over Rage Blade but then was blitzkrieged early in the fight last time by Maximus Scott. This fight should be a great striking battle but I am leaning towards Richtofen to get a late TKO stoppage. 4. Karl Denke vs. Jax Teller - Another fighter on a bit of a roller-coaster ride in this tournament is Karl Denke having switched wins and losses throughout the tournament as he gets ready to take on an elite level muay-thai striker in Jax Teller. Denke has more weapons in this fight and I could see him dragging Teller to the ground and grinding out a decision but I am going to go w/ Denke continuing his trend and getting a loss here this week. 5. Andre Toulon vs. Dirk Diggler - Andre Toulon joined our tournament last week after Girsurrson retired and had a very tough fought decision loss to Greco Roman. He takes on elite kick-boxer Dirk Diggler who has shown great durability and good KO power to this point in his career. Diggler was just out-wrestled last week by Veron and I guess if Toulon can drag this fight to the ground he could probably grind out a decision. I think Diggler does enough early in the fight to get out to an early lead and bring it home however. Going with Diggler via Decision. Replacements Team vs. Team Hells Balls Nutrition 1. Michael Rodalgo vs. Aron Schmeck - Aron Shmeck joins our tournament because Ballantyne left his management and never informed us that he was no longer taking part in this tournament. He is a pure ground-specialist so this week is probably a pretty tough match-up for him fighting a guy equally as skilled in the ground but a much better striker. It's that reason that I am going to go with his opponent Michael Rodalgo to win by Unanimous Decision. 2. Maximus Scott vs. Bam Boon 1 - Bam Boon 1 enters this week having yet to taste victory this season in ITFL when he prepares to take on Maximus Scott who is a very well rounded fighter and could look to put Boon 1 on his back to help him secure the victory. Knowing Blunts style though I predict Scott probably just looks to stand and bang and get the early knockout victory. Scott via 1st round KO 3. Juan Sebastian Veron vs. Greco Roman - After replacing Kron Gracie in the tournament, Roman got off to a 0-4 start here in ITFL. He got in the win column last week with an impressive decision victory over new-comer Andre Toulon. He fights another former olmypic wrestler w/ a black belt in jiu-jitsu as he takes on Veron who as stated earlier made an impressive ITFL debut by defeating Dirk Diggler last week. I think Veron lands too much on the feet and keeps things close in the grappling department to pull out the decision victory. 4. Colin Hendry vs. Pete Damato - The battle of the two guys who don't have a ton of skills. Dirk Copeland really wanted to make this match-up happen and he got his wish. Damato will look to show Hendry why the saying "be careful what you wish for" came into existense as he looks to get his heavy hands on Hendry. Both guys hit hard, but before last week Colin Hendry had never been stopped and I think his durability saves him in this one. Hendry by TKO 5. Helio James vs. Jarrod Batchelor - Helio James is 0-2 so far in the tournament but was up 2 rounds to 0 in the fight last week against Karl Denke before getting knocked out via head kick. Jarrod Batchelor got a draw against the tough Skylar in week 1 and then had a nice knockout victory over Artie Lange last week. I think Helio's well rounded game gives him a good chance in this fight and if he can avoid another late TKO stoppage I think he'll take this. James via Decision Team Reaper Combat-wear vs. Team Aces of Spades 1. Frank Esposito vs. I.P. Daily - Frank Esposito comes into this week with a 5-2 overall record in the tournament. His only two losses have come to opponents with high level ground games. His opponent is I.P. Daily who is a striker with defensive ground abilities and durability issues. I think Espositio is able to get his 2nd stoppage of the tournament and creep up the ladder board in the individual points. Espositio via TKO 2. Boy Bubby vs. Dan Smith - Boy Bubby has had a terrific tournament going 6-1 to this point. He's also the fighter who has the biggest mouth on him as he likes to stir trouble in the forums. He laughed at his opponent coming into this week and we'll have to see if he's underestimating his opponent. Dan Smith isn't one of the most skilled guy in this tournament but he has heavy hands that have helped him to two TKO victories thus far. His achilles heel has been the doctor actually, who has stopped 3 of his 4 losses in this tournament. I see a similar outcome for him as Bubby forces a stoppage via cuts from mount. Bubby via TKO (cut) 3. Dennis Wise vs. Jeremy Voda - Jeremy Voda has already defeated one fighter in this tournament managed by JLP, and he looks to make it 2 for 2 by getting this fight to the ground and diving on a limb and ripping til he forces the tap-out. Dennis Wise asked for this fight and looks for revenge for his teammate in this fight. He'll need to keep this one standing if he has any hope of victory. I see Wise following up an impressive victory over Beck last week with another one over Voda this week. Wise via Decision 4. Thomas Billington vs. Rage Blade - Thomas Billington is officially dubbed Fuse's least favorite guy to right about in this tournament (LOL) despite being off to a great 6-1 start. Billington will look to get this fight to the mat where he can use his high level ground skills to help him beat his opponent. Rage Blade has had a rough ITFL so far going only 2-5, but 3 of those losses are to guys sure to make the playoffs with a possible 4th if Beck can squeeze in. I think Billington makes it 5 losses to possibly 5 playoff opponents for Blade with another snorefest for Fuse to write about. (GO BLADE!) 5. Dragon Slayer vs. Dynamite Nixon - Dynamite Nixon comes into this week 0-3 since joining ITFL and will find a tough time changing that trend when he takes on the points leader in Dragon Slayer. His skills are finally starting to get in-line a little bit but skills hasn't been what's carried Slayer to victory so far in this tournament. It's his fight ending power that has carried him to the points lead and Nixon's durability comes into question for this fight. I think Slayer gets another KO and stays right on top in the points as we close in on the playoffs. Team Kaiser vs. Team Syndicate Nutrition Jan Dudek vs. Tweedle Dee - Tweedle Dee thought he needed some stoppage victories to make the playoffs in this tournament so called out Jan Dudek who's response when he heard about the match-up was something similar to "ah fuck." I think Dudek knows he's in over his head and after the fight we might be calling Dudek, Tweedle Dum. Dee via KO 2. Viktor Kafka vs. Sir Jecht - Sir Jecht is a very high level grappler with a former Olympic wrestling pedigree but doesn't have a ton of skills in the striking department and that's mostly been the cause to his 0-4 start so far. Kafka isn't great anywhere but he's good everywhere and I think his ability to keep this standing and out-stirke his opponent carry him to a tko victory. 3. Geralt of Ravia vs. Latka Gravas - A rematch of our week 1 match-up between these two teams and Geralt was able to take a convincing decision the first time. Both these guys are very skilled and really it could go either way but I will go with the past experience of victory and choose Geralt to win via decision again. 4. Katsuro Sato vs. Dan Leighty - Our typical grappler vs. striker match-up here as Leighty takes on Katsuro Sato. Leighty is an elite level kick-boxer and will need to keep this fight standing if he plans on beating the jiu-jitsu black belt. Sato just lost to a kick-boxer of this caliber in his last fight and though he did beat Richtofen earlier in the season, he didn't have near the ground defense of Leighty. I'll take Leighty by decision. 5. Luka Beck vs. Sergiy Skylar - Another rematch of our week 1 match-up between these two teams as these two fighters battle to a hard-fought 29-28 decision win for Skylar. The one round Luka was able to keep that fight standing was the round he won so I would look for Beck to try to sprawl and brawl. Skylar manages to get his opponents to the ground pretty regularly though and I think his wrestling will carry him to another decision victory.
