If you can get his rank up a bit closer to Jones I’d love to make that happen down the road here.

I feel he has a lot more potential at 185, but if he wins his next fight, he'll be under 400p4p for sure, maybe even closer to 300.  I think their rank gap will be fairly insignificant if RMS wins his next one.

P.s. the opponent having a silly putty chin wasn't a theory, but more of a fact haha

Matt Lawrence: Heeeeeellooooo everybody! This is Matt Lawrence bringing to you another episode of The Lawrence Minute, a show created to all of you MMA freaks around the world! As usual, let's get down to business! Tonight we are here at the Park Plaza Hotel, in London, waiting for he Sucker Punch Pro Series 168 that will happen tomorrow at the Wombley Arena! With us tonight, we have Thoth Chontamenti, who’s going to face Thiago Araujo on tomorrow's card.

Matt Lawrence: Thoth, welcome and thank you very much for being here with us tonight. First of all I would like to know a bit more about your recent management change. This will be your first fight under Dries Flucht, the fourth manager of your career. How has it been, working with Dries and his team, and what can we expect in this new phase of your career?

Thoth Chontamenti: I'm very excited to be under Dries, a fairly new manager in the game. He has been remarkable in his short time in the industry so I can confidently say that he'll have me fighting for the title once again soon.

Matt Lawrence: Oh yes, sir, you are a former SP Heavyweight Champion with a considerable number of defenses, enough defenses for some to say you had a dominant run at it. How do you see the Heavyweight division today? How far do you think a win tomorrow is going to put you, regarding a new shot at the title?

Thoth Chontamenti: Today's heavyweight division is, in my opinion, the most competitive in Sucker Punch history so now it'll be harder than ever to climb up the rankings, but I believe I can do it. A win tomorrow will boost my confidence a lot to be honest. I've been down lately, mostly due to my bad run under previous managers.

Matt Lawrence: Tomorrow, you’ll be fighting Thiago Araujo, a MMA veteran making his debut at SPPS. What can we expect from this fight? Does his ground game worry you? Do you want to send a message to him? I’m pretty sure he’s gonna be watching us!

Thoth Chontamenti: There are definitely some aspects in his game that worry me. His 23 submission victories are a problem for me, that's why I'll be aiming to knock him out when we step inside that cage!

Matt Lawrence: There you have it, ladies and gentlemen! Thoth Chontamenti! Thoth, once again, thank you very much for meeting us in such short notice. Next time, hopefully we'll have more time to talk about your musical tastes, and maybe get some hairstyling tips from you. Good luck in your fight tomorrow! Bye- bye everyone and I’ll see you soon!

SUCKER PUNCH PREVIEW

Sucker Punch Pro Series 168

Alright ya’ll!  We’re gonna jump right into the thick of it here for SPPS 168 today!  Only about 4 hours till fight time and it’s coming at us fast from the Wombley in London!  So, as always, I’m Hare Rumpler, my buddy Donkey “Dan” is tagging along today and we’re gonna preview this dang thing.  Quickly!

No titles on the line today.  Just some good ole nasty, low-blow, cheap shot action hopefully!  I mean, that’s what we’re all about round here anyways, right?  Alright, I’m not rambling on and I lack the drivel to do it today…so…a quick word or two from our sponsor and merchandise partner here and then jump into detailed discussion for each contest this evening!

1584375781SWN.jpg

Do you find that you’re resting your fighters too often? Two, three, maybe even 4 times a week sometimes?  If that’s the case, you’re probably not supplementing their training, and if you are I’m thinking you’re not doing it with Shadow Warrior Tea 160Q, which is Shadow Warrior Nutrition’s outstanding energy loss reduction supplement.  It’s the best money can buy and will keep your fighter in the gym training rather than sitting days out resting!  Stop on over there today, you will NOT be disappointed!

Now, let's get to it!

Undercard Bout #1: Lightweights

Moe Lester v Montesh Dominguez

We’ll open it up with a Lightweight showdown between Dominguez and Lester.  Dominguez is off slightly on his morale so we’ll have to see if that factors in today or not.  He does have the advantage on the ground with his Jiu Jitsu, but I’m not expecting that to play a big role in this.

Dominguez comes off a loss to Ranger Alderidge where he could have laid claim to a Top Contender match with a win.  To be fair, that was a tough, tough fight but it was something he’d earned his way to and well, if you ever want to get there, those are the tests you have to pass!  He was 4-1 leading up to that fight including a recent win over my very own Repus Revorg and will look to start putting notches in that win column again tonight.

Lester very much needs to find a way to string together a few wins.  He’s had a couple since joining Sucker Punch…three to be exact…but his overall record since arriving is 3-3.  Even more a KO style striker than Dominguez is, it’ll be interesting to see if this goes as I’d expect or not.

Donkey’s Pick: Lester via TKO (Strikes)

I expect that what Hare thinks he’s going to see is Dominguez working for the points and a decision and Lester working for a KO or some nature.  Dominguez can serve up the finishes as well so there’s no guarantees in this one.  I don’t know why, but I have an itch that tells me to take Lester to start things off with some pop this evening!

Undercard Bout #2: Heavyweights

Naoise Durnin v Bjorn Olafsson

Unfortunately the fans…and I…will all be disappointed a bit in this next battle between the big boys here as Bjorn Olafsson comes into the cage off on his morale by enough to make an impact that’ll potentially put him in danger of slipping into critical P4P territory!  Not good.  He better find a way to win despite the morale as back to back losses have him in a bad spot heading into this contest.

Durnin makes his SPPS debut after transferring over from CFC as part of the merger.  He’s coming off a one minute, eleven second TKO win over Manuel Neuer in July that earned him ‘KO of the Night’ honors…very nice.  Outside the submission loss via guillotine to Mike Holmes Jr in June he’s won three out of four leading into tonight and the prior two wins in April and May were both single punch KO finishes.  Hell, the one over Deontay DJ took a mere thirty-seven seconds!!!  Outside falling to the occasional submission, this boy knows how to bring the BOOM to the cage!

Donkey’s Pick: Durnin via KO (Punch)

Obviously I’m not picking or Olafsson who comes in unprepared.  And with that morale, I have to question his willingness to stand in there and be focused.  This could be a highlight reel KO coming for Durnin here!  All the stars are in alignment!

Undercard Bout #3: Welterweights

Akara Kongsangchai v Edward Mills

Alright folks! Here’s the one that everybody’s been waiting for!  (At least in the minds of Mills and Kongsangchai, hahaha!)  Mr. Pickle Punch versus the self-proclaimed “King Kong Pickle Crusher”!  This fight may not be for the Welterweight Championship of the World, but you’d never know it by the hype these two have been putting into it beforehand!  Gotta love the enthusiasm!

Kongsangchai has spent the past month bulking up just a tad bit for this one as he normally fights at Lightweight.  He’s now at a “sturdy” 172 pounds as in weigh in against Mills’ 182 after he came all the way down from Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight a few months back!  Dudes from two totally opposite classes meeting in the middle…ahhhhh…the love! If only we could all find a middle ground like this…and then kick each other in the gnads!  LOL!!!

Kongsangchai will have the advantage in most primaries tonight.  But he’s also the smaller fighter both in weight as we discussed, and definitely in height as Mills stands 182 cm to Kong’s 169!  Guys…I’m not gonna lie…I really wanna see Kong jump on Mills’ back and try to put him to sleep like Wesley did to Andre the Giant in the Princess Bride!!!  “Sleep well, and dream of large women.  For I do not envy you the headache you’ll have in the morning!”

Donkey’s Pick: Mills via TKO (Strikes)

Obviously this one is going to come down to whether Mills can land the finishing shot or not. If the big oaf does, Kong may be the one going to sleep and waking up with the headache.  That said, Kong has been on an outright tear at CFC at Lightweight since he left SPPS and has FIVE finishes via TKO or KO in a row!  How funny would it be to see this dude using Mills’ nuts as a speed bag before the big finishing cruncher?!?  More than anything, Mills may gas out if he doesn’t get the finish early.  It’s tough to call this one…Mills really needs this one as despite the fun he brings to the table his P4P ranking needs the boost.  And I’m picking for him, but more just because I know how much that annoys the Lundgren camp!

***********************

Undercard Bout #4: Featherweights

Leonardo Da Silva v Violent Femme

Wow!!! Aside from the smallest edge in boxing for Femme, these two Featherweights are as evenly matched as you get as we approach the end of the Undercard for SPPS 168!  And both are fully prepped, something I love to see!

Femme is inching closer and closer to a Top Contender battle and potential title fight down the line. If he keeps winning, and that P4P rank keeps improving!  He’s on the verge now, and a big win here could propel him into the range where the TC battle is on his doorstep.  He’s certainly earned it win wise of late, especially after the defeats of former WCF legend Ryan Anderson and our own Count Dankula!

Femme will first have to tangle with the aging, but still very, very dangerous Da Silva this evening!  Da Silva brings a number of problems into the cage for his opponents.  The first being that he can hang with the best when it comes to points scoring and technical kickboxing.  The second is that he’s extremely dangerous on the ground with submission skills!  He makes his SPPS debut this evening after arriving from CFC as part of the merger and you can bet he’s looking to put back to back wins on the board and make a big entrance!

Donkey’s Pick: Femme via Unanimous Decision

Femme has only been submitted once…early in his career…so the onus would be on Da Silva to prove it can happen if that’s the route he decides to take.  Femme also has a granite chin, so he has the luxury of being as aggressive with his elite technical boxing as he’d like…something he’s done throughout his career for a ton of decisions.  He has been TKO’d three times and Da Silva has shown the ability to bring the pain, especially back in his Grunge days.  Does he still have that in him at his age?  We’ll find out.  But I think I have to go with the “yute” in this one!

***********************

Undercard Bout #5: Heavyweights

Thoth Chontamenti v Thiago Araujo

In his interview on “The Lawrence Minute”, Chontamenti talked about how difficult and strong the Heavyweight division at SPPS has become since the days when he was a dominant force in the division.  It’s awesome to see that under his new management team he appears to be energized and has the confidence that he can get back to the top!  That said, he’s absolutely right…this is not your grandfather’s Heavyweight Division at Sucker Punch anymore and the game has changed.  Being extremely skilled just isn’t enough.  You have to have phenomenal skills along with great strategy…and a big time killer instinct!

Araujo has been round long enough at the ripe age of 39 to know that that killer instinct is a necessity!  He’s been at the top, as he was champ for a minute back at CCF early in his career, and he’s also seen enough fights over his career to know about the streaks…both good and bad. There’s no doubt about it tonight, he brings a clear and present danger to the cage if the fight goes to the ground.  He’s a submission specialist with a ridiculous number of wins coming from chokes and twisted up arms!

Chontamenti indicated that his goal is not to mess around with Araujo on the ground. We don’t know if that’s just gamesmanship or if that’s an honest take on this fight.  Given that Araujo has fallen to a fair number of KO’s over his career I’m actually of a mind to believe that Chontamenti’s giving us the honest insight on this one. And that means he’s looking for the KO going into this fight!  I like that.  I like that a lot!

Donkey’s Pick: Chontamenti via TKO (Strikes)

Here’s the thing.  Chontamenti was extremely dangerous on the ground himself early in his career and at the same time has proven over the years that he can bring the BOOM also!  And, aside from his very first QFC test fight, he’s never been submitted.  So unlike Hare, I almost think that while he may not be looking to purposely take this fight to the ground…why would you?...I don’t think he fears that from Araujo as much as he’s letting on!  MMA is a young man’s game and while Chontamenti isn’t young at 29 years old, he’s still ten years younger than Araujo!

A quick break here and Donkey and I will return with the Main Card folks!

Main Card Bout #1: Welterweights

adaf0389564fb50611be9e33ba9fc511.png

We open up the Main Card with one of my own kids getting into the action tonight!  Feet and Armbach will represent the Welterweights in early Main Card action and I won’t lie…I need a win something awful for my kids, but given my run lately guiding these poor guys I’m not really expecting one!  Both fighters are fully prepared at least…which is good, because I’d have to kick my own ass if it was my guy who wasn’t!

Armbach’s name alone insinuates that you’re in for a ton of Jiu Jitsu trouble on the ground.  That said, under former manager Bobb Mogg that was the case.  His runs with WCF and CFC under God War’s guidance have not produced the same approach and end results when it comes to submissions but my own team isn’t going to let that fool us for a second into thinking it isn’t possible!  He’s been much more focused on decisions and scoring a ton of points with ground and pound.  So yes, the ground game is still a concern here!

Feet earned what I felt was maybe a bit premature of a title shot at CFC last month after one win there, but apparently the division was in a state where he was the most qualified.  Manolito Tai Kung made sure to reinforce Feet’s insecurities about his worthiness in that fight with a nasty second round TKO to end it.  With both fighters making their SPPS debut after transferring from CFC we’ll see if Feet responds to being “home” with the Hare crew or not and can come out on top in this one!  It’s no small ask that’s for sure!

Donkey’s Pick: Armbach via TKO (Strikes)

I don’t like Feet’s prospects in this one because he’s struggled against ground based fighters in the past even though he supposedly has decent skills there of his own.  Specifically, positioning can be an issue and against Armbach if he can’t control the position he’s going to be in for trouble…and a lot of pain!

Main Card Bout #2: Welterweights

af9e5aab800cc890e50a15c772992fe5.png

More Welterweight action coming at you folks in the last of our three Welterweight battles tonight!  Once again, we have two very prepared fighters as Capac and Christiano come fully ready to give the fans everything they’ve got!

Capac will give up the Muay Thai advantage here this evening but outside that this is a pretty even fight from a primary perspective.  Capac’s arrival at Sucker Punch was mediocre at best after his initial win as he went 2-3 over his first five fights with many of those decided by the judges.  However, the past three outings have had him find a groove and his submission game seems to have returned helping him to a trifecta of wins heading into tonight’s contest with Christiano.

Christiano is a former dominant Sucker Punch Pro Series Welterweight champ who just sorta found it difficult to establish consistency in an ever increasingly tough division after his loss of the belt to Curtis last October.  Almost a year later, he finds himself with three solid wins in a row and a chance to move right back up into the top tier of the division again!  Hell, he’s there, but now it’s about getting to the title fight!

Donkey’s Pick: Christiano via Split Decision

Capac and Christiano bring very similar styles at the core to the cage with abilities to strike for points and earn wins via decisions as needed. That said, they differ in that Capac can pull off a submission while Christiano occasionally brings the nastiness with a TKO to the table.  With three wins leading into this fight for both warriors, they’re looking at a title opportunity with a win here!  That’s huge!  Expect a war tonight!!

***********************

Main Card Bout #3: Heavyweights

724e1bb0f2232bb5d90d58f99ed3bccf.png

Another big boy match here brings you the new and the old!  Outlaw comes over as part of the CFC merger and makes his SPPS debut this evening while John Fury has been a steady part of the SPPS framework since the very beginning (for him) outside a QFC fight.  So much so that he’s now on his FIFTH manager over that run!  Both fighters are fully prepped and ready to get at it!

Fury’s new management has him eyeing up what it’ll take to get back to the glory days he saw under Mac Little and Alex Maniatakos!  They’re off to a good start as a TKO win due to cuts over Olafsson last month has reset the scorecard for Fury and given him some confidence coming into tonight’s battle!  He’s a very hard-hitter who can lay an opponent out but has also been susceptible to the same over his career. Luckily for him he dishes it out more often than he receives!

Outlaw also comes in off a decision victory over Biff Raper last month.  He’s been bouncing back and forth a bit lately and would like nothing more than to find his groove and consistency as he had back at Grunge when he was champ!  Up till that last fight he was more a KO and TKO guy than a decision taker, much like Fury!

Donkey’s Pick: Fury via TKO (Strikes)

Expect there to be fireworks when these two come into the cage and throw some serious hands tonight!  Big boys not here to hug and play!  Here to throw DOWN!  I’m going to go with the former champ for now, but this one ends with somebody being woken up by the trainer and their corner!

Co-Main Event:

Featured Middleweight Battle

64dd1a1ab0f9bf9a75ee0c76c8f8fe6d.png

Our Co-Main Event brings Middleweights Bizihwaile and Bosanac into the cage for a fantastic showdown between fighters with almost identical primaries!  And both with difficult names to pronounce!  Thanks for that guys!

Biz has won four of his last five with double wins sandwiching the only loss over that run to James Yarbourough via decision in May.  As a new arrival at SPPS due to the merger with CFC, he only needs an opportunity to prove himself on the SPPS stage and bolster his ranking just a tad before he could be looking at a Top Contender opportunity!  Certainly a win over a quality opponent like Bosanac would fit that bill!

Bosanac is trying to shake off a couple decision losses from May and June.  His win over Kappa Knox over at CFC in July certainly helped begin that process.  The three wins he had prior to the losses, including the capturing of the CFC Middleweight belt and one successful defense, also reinforce that Bosanac is right there on the edge of top tier here at SPPS as well!

Both of these fighters can dish out finishes!  Will we see one or will they tiptoe around each other a bit tonight in a show or respect for the other’s skills?

Donkey’s Pick: Bizihwaile via TKO (Strikes)

Given Biz’s takedown of Ginty and Pinochet I’m going to lean towards him as being the slightly more ready of the two for the next step forward!  But this Co-Main Event makes no promises on a winner!  This is anybody’s fight!

***********************

Main Event:

Featured Light Heavyweight Battle

7986638e88c2c12111f61e987c45ff4a.png

Our Main Event!  Yes…finally we get here and finally I get this preview out with only an hour or two to spare due to work driving me crazy today!!!  As you’d expect in a Main Event, both Averyanov and Mataitai (that’s fun to say) are fully prepped and ready to throw down in this Light Heavyweight battle!

The only real separation between these two tonight is Mataitai’s Jiu Jitsu.  Averyanov has a small, small edge in boxing but nothing significant.  Averyanov has been pushing up the rankings and inches closer here.  A win would help move him forward yet again after wins over Tribute, Kuznetsov and Beddo li going back in order from July to May.  Only a loss to Wille Thai interrupted a seven fight run. But that is the second time he’s lost to Thai and clearly Averyanov is susceptible to a quality ground game.

Mataitai has won his last two over quality opponents at CFC prior to the merger that brought him over to SPPS for his debut this month.  And he already finds himself looking at a title shot if he can score yet another big win here!  Only a loss to Sammy Beach, who will be fighting for the strap on August 20th, has slowed him down over his last five fights.  He’s also a former champ from the BFC/BBFC days but was unable to successfully defend.  You can bet he’d like a shot to snag that belt here and then prove he can hold it!

Donkey’s Pick: Mataitai via TKO (Strikes)

Both fighters can throw hands and that’s going to make for a great final fight for our fans out there around the world!  You can make your pick here for who might land the shot that counts and earns the ‘W’, but I can say I don’t think this Main Event ends in a decision!

***********************

Alright folks, we’re hoping that London is ready for an explosion of action and excitement at the Wombley this evening!  For those who can’t make it, we’ve also got a fantastic THREE HOUR PPV with the best quality production money can buy all lined up for you fine folks!  Can’t wait to get the action going!

Till then, have fun and don’t forget…

Keep it cheap and dirty…Sucker Punch Pro Series style!

Pickle juice for everyone!  Sorry, @kfuhrer. It was bound to happen. The second you drunkenly offered up "puffy snakes" it was etched in stone.

SUCKER PUNCH PREVIEW

Sucker Punch Pro Series 169

I've been super busy with work and other items this week, so luckily NatiBatti will be stepping in for this preview tonight!  I appreciate her effort and I suspect many of you will enjoy not having to sit through my drawn out rambling as well!  You may not get quite as much detailed insight into the fights, but you also don't have to listen to Donkey and I pontificate to no end!  So, here we go, let's hear from our merchandise partner and sponsor and then turn this thing over to NatiBatti here!

***********************

Hello friends, I, NatiBatti, have returned. I don’t have much to say here except that we have an exciting TWO title fights lined up for tonight at SPPS 169 in Tokyo! So, without further ado, let’s get right into it.

 ***********************

#1- Falcone vs Troeng

The night's first fight will be a light heavyweight bout between Anthony Falcone and Tor Troeng. Both fighters are very experienced, with well over 30 fights under each of their belts. These two have similar skills in everything except BJJ, where Falcone has an advantage. Falcone is missing a little bit of morale, but Troeng is missing much more along with a little bit of energy. Overall, it’s looking like Falcone has the advantage here so I’m going to pick him to win via TKO.

 ***********************

#2- Kiloe vs Bonifacio

The next fight will be a lightweight bout between Pete Kiloe and Luigi Benefacio. These two’s skills are almost identical, with the only difference being the slight edge that Bonifacio has in muay thai. They also have very similar records to back them up. Both men are missing morale but Bonifacio has full energy compared to Kiloe’s roughly 75% energy. It seems like Bonifacio has the advantage all around here, so I’m going to choose him to win this one via decision.

 ***********************

#3- Tulikoura vs Swanson

Up next, we will see Johannes Tulikoura against Benedicte Swanson in a welterweight bout. These two’s skills match up pretty well, with the scales seeming to tip slightly in Swanson’s favor. Both fighters are also very experienced, each having participated in over 50 fights. Tulikoura is missing just a bit of morale while Swanson is not only missing more morale than Tulikoura, but he’s missing some energy too. So, despite Swanson having a skills advantage, I’m betting on Tulikoura to win this one, likely by TKO.

 ***********************

#4- Ribbit vs Wieczorek

The fourth fight of the night will be a light heavyweight bout between Frog Ribbit and Lukasz Wieczorek. Ribbit has a pretty spectacular name if you ask me, so he gets automatic bonus points in my book. Looking at actual statistics, Ribbit has more experience than Wieczorek but they have similar win rates at 68% and 65%, respectively. Their skills are nearly identical except in wrestling, where Wieczorek has a bit of an advantage. These two guys are missing about the same amount of both morale and energy, so that isn’t something we can use here. Since this one is so close, I’m going to choose Ribbit just because of his name. I think he will win via decision.

 ***********************

#5- Con vs Hearn

The final fight of the undercard will see A. Mere Con against Thomas Hearn in a welterweight bout. Both guys have a decent amount of experience, but Con’s win rate is a bit better. These two are pretty much identical in terms of skills, so that doesn’t tell us much about who’s winning this one. Both men have full energy and are missing a little bit of morale, but not much. Overall, this one is too close to call. So, naturally, I shall flip a coin. Heads is Con and tails is Hearn and… Siri says heads. Looks like it’s going to be Con. Probably via decision.

 ***********************

#6- Viking vs Haden

7c7e59ee769d391ae2dc29cd08fca012.png

Techno Viking and ZaDarius Haden will kick off the main card with a heavyweight bout. I haven’t written a main card preview in a while, but I’ll give it my best shot. Viking has more experience, but his win rate is slightly lower at 64% compared to Haden’s 67%. This difference is so little it’s not really a good statistic to judge on. They have similar skills with no difference big enough to make decision off of. They’re both missing a little bit of morale, so little that I would usually ignore it, but since nothing else is worth comparing we will have to take this into consideration. Viking is missing more morale than Haden, so I guess Haden will win this once via decision.

 ***********************

#7- Cobain vs Theorist

3bf703534d6026f561f6dd10279c9612.png

Fight number 7 will be a lightweight bout between Kurt Cobain and Conspiracy Theorist. Not sure who chose Theorist’s name, but it’s pretty lame if you ask me. These two’s skills line up pretty nicely, with the scale seeming to tip ever so slightly in Theorist’s favor. These two have pretty much the same record, so looking at Cobain’s lack of morale compared to Theorist’s, I think it’s clear that Theorist will win this one. Hopefully by TKO.

#8- Matsuda vs Reed

1ee15c54c654ecaa722e68dcbf937178.png

The eighth fight of the night will be a middleweight bout between Tanaka Matsuda and Ben Reed. Matsuda’s name is vaguely familiar, but nothing particular stands out about him from my memory. Every fight tonight has been very close and many of my previews likely sound redundant because of it. So, to save time, let’s just say that, once again, this bout is very close in all aspects. So, I’m just going to choose Matsuda to win because I recognize his name. I think he will win via submission since we haven’t had one of those yet tonight.

 ***********************

#9- Mediocre vs Joy

899eeb52ed8cbcaeff660802b150b07c.png

Fight number 9 will see Mister Mediocre defend his lightweight title against the challenger, Do Ho Joy. This is going to be a very close fight based on their skills. Despite Mediocre currently holding the title, Joy has significantly more experience to back him up. But this makes us wonder, what has taken him so long to get this title? Something must’ve stopped him, and I have no doubt it will stop him again. Therefore, I am going to pick Mediocre to successfully defend his title and win via decision.

 ***********************

#10- Sitsongrit vs Cabrera

baa7934cd4db51b159ef283f68fadf77.png

The main event tonight will be another title fight, this time for the featherweight title. We will see Petsuwan Sitsongrit defend his title against the challenger, Heller Cabrera. Once again, we will see a close fight with similar skills. However, this time, their experience and records are almost identical, with the only difference being Sitsongrit’s one extra win. Cabrera is missing a little energy and Sitsongrit is missing a little morale which, in my mind, balances out. I think this one will be an upset with Cabrera overtaking Sitsongrit to take the title from him, likely via TKO.

Enjoy the show tonight folks!  And catch the PPV if you can't be in Tokyo...which most of you probably can't!

Till then, have fun and don’t forget…

Well, well, that's prediction was right, it was a majority decision somehow, but judges sometimes tripping over scoring, that ain't the problem, i got the W in the end. Great debut in SPPS, we'll see what's next and yea, i am prepared to fight anytime, my last opponent wasn't really able to damage me or get a lot of strikes on me. See yaaaaaaaaa!

Julio "El Conquistador" Cruzeiro

"I just want to know how much Tank Tribute paid off the doctors and the referee. Absolute bullshit decision to stop the fight for cuts that deep into the final round - after I had won both previous rounds and was winning again in the third.

Yes he managed to knock me down in the first with some lucky shots, but he's got no killer instinct and it was more down to me stumbling over my own feet. I came back strong to still win the first round - ask the media. That proves I wasn't really that hurt because then I comprehensively dominated the second round and also all of the third that happened. He literally hit me with one punch and two kicks the whole third round before the fucking doctor saved him. Just over a minute was left in the fight, how the hell are you stopping a fight for my own safety that I'm clearly winning?

I'm pissed off beyond belief. Tank knows he was losing bad, it's why he was stepping it up in the third, but he still couldn't do anything once I got into my groove. Fake stoppage, fake doctor credentials, fake result."

Looking for Writer(s)!!!

1636834755SuckerPunchOrg_Logo_Unrestrain

Obviously there is a shortage of writers in MMAT so we realize we're going to have to up the ante and pony up the $ to make it happen!  But I have to be honest with you, I have to make it happen!  So you're in the driver's seat as far as compensation!

I am looking for TWO or more writers to swap in and out between card previews depending upon how much workload each wants!

Got an idea of what you're worth?...Let's talk compensation and make it happen!  $? Sure.  Custom avatar perhaps?  We can do that! VIP?  Sure, perhaps, if there's a long term commitment thing, I can definitely work that!  Combination of payment options? Yeppers, we gotcha, let's discuss!

So here's what we're looking for...and yes, while I would always love a writer who wants to do the occasional moonlight gig with interviews and such...that's not my main priority at the moment.  Instead, what I really, REALLY need, is somebody who is able and willing to do anywhere from 1-3 "undercard" portions of cards per week. By that I mean the first five fights of a card for 1-3 cards, depending upon how much work you want.  I'll take care of the rest man (or woman)!  You don't even have to format it.  Just write it all up, send it over to me, and I'll plop it into the preview with proper credit given to you as the guest writer on that given card!

And you decide how in-depth or crazy you want to get.  Want do do it RisaRoo or NatiBatti style, basically a short, quippy sorta paragraph about the fight with or without a prediction on the result, do your thing, I'm fine with that!  Or, want to do it on par with my long-winded, blabbering previews?  Sure, go for it.  Something in between?  Yeah man!  Just do what allows you to be happy and comfortable and not burn out, and it's all good!  And depending upon the time spent, we can figure out that whole compensation thing from above!

Here are some extremes to the previews we've had...first, two from NatiBatti and RisaRoo, my actual daughters.  Then, one that is more typical of what I do most times for the fights...

If you're read this far and you're interested...PM me in game and let's chat!!!  Come help make what is (in my admittedly very biased opinion!) one of the most fun orgs in the game even more so!

***********************

First is an example of NatiBatti's little blurbs on fights that she's been providing of late:

Fight #1- Law vs Liee

For the first match-up of the night, we have Tyson Law and Brusse Liee in a middleweight bout. Law has much more experience than Liee, having fought 20 fights in his career and winning over half of them. Nonetheless, it should be a pretty good match as Liee has pretty good skills to combat Law’s. I don’t know much about either fighter, and both of their morales are down about the same amount, so I’m going to pick Law to win this one based on experience and him having just slightly more energy. He will win by submission. Don’t ask me why. I don’t know. I’m not even looking at their fight page right now as I type this sentence.

***********************

Here is a pretty representative sample of RisaRoo's shorter previews from the past.  Again, she didn't have to do the headline intro pieces and formatting, just the paragraph she provided:

Undercard Bout #5: Lightweights

Anti Half Assed v Marchrius Rossi

Risa Roo’s Take:

The last fight I will be reviewing before Hare finally does his job for once is the fifth fight of the night between Anti Half Assed (you look like you half ass your shower routine bro, shave please god damn) and Marchrius "Marco" Rossi. Parents really wanted to make life tough with that first name, huh? Anyone ever pronounce it right on the first try? Didn’t think so, good thing you go by Marco. POLO! Anyway, both of these dudes are coming in with energy and morale, so hopefully this will be an even paced and engaging fight. Rossi is coming off a few losses while Half Assed is coming off a couple wins. We’ll see if one can break the losing streak or one can maintain the winning streak. I’m rooting for whoever has the best hygiene (take a guess who).

***********************

And an example of my previews (Hare and Donkey "Dan"):

SUCKER PUNCH PREVIEW

Sucker Punch Pro Series 176

Howdy Sucker Punch fans!  Remember me?  Ha, well, you tried to forget me, but I’m baaaack!  No more flu, caught up on work stuff after being out sick and finally mostly caught up with administrative stuff on here as well!  So here we go bringing a preview of SPPS 176 at you as we prepare for action in the Colliseum over in Los Angeles this evening!  Oh, yeah, and I’ll be joined by that ass, Donkey “Dan” as well!  And even before that, NatiBatti has promised to step in and help out with the Undercard…phew.

***********************

Undercard Bout #1: Heavyweights

Akuma Manivong v Lou Slugger

Nati’s Take:

The night's first fight will be a heavyweight bout between Akuma Manivong and Lou Slugger. These two have similar win rates at 56% and 54%, respectively. They’re pretty even in every skill except BJJ, where Manivong has a significant advantage which makes sense considering he is a black belt in it. Slugger has both full energy and full morale, which I have found is a rare occurrence around here. Manivong is missing a little morale and energy. Based on this, I’m going to choose Slugger to win this one via TKO, since that’s what he always does.

***********************

Undercard Bout #2: Middleweights

Leonard Nimoy v Bryan Gracie

Nati’s Take:

Up next, we will see Leonard Nimoy against Bryan Gracie in a middleweight bout. These two’s win rates are almost identical at 59% and 58%, respectively. Nimoy has a slight advantage in boxing and muay thai while Gracie has a small advantage in wrestling and a big advantage in BJJ. Gracie is missing a little bit of both morale and energy, while Nimoy is only missing a little morale. I’m going to choose Nimoy to win this one, likely by TKO since that is what he does most often.

***********************

Undercard Bout #3: Heavyweights

Herleifr Conchobhar v Colin Penn

Nati’s Take:

The third fight of the night will be a heavyweight bout between Herleifr Conchobhar and Colin Penn. Conchobhar has a much better win rate here at 70% compared to Penn’s 58%. He has also participated in more bouts, making him the more experienced fighter of the two. Conchobhar has a slight edge in boxing and muay thai, Penn leads in wrestling, and they’re even in BJJ. Both of these guys have full energy and are missing a little bit of morale. Technically Conchobhar is missing more morale, but not enough to justify me picking Penn over him. Therefore, I’m choosing Conchobhar to win via decision.

***********************

Undercard Bout #4: Featherweights

Godefroy Courtial v Peter Petersson

Nati’s Take:

Fight number 4 will be a featherweight bout between Godefroy Courtial and Peter Petersson. I’m not going to lie, I hate both of these names. But, since I hate them both, it’s an even playing field in my mind. Courtial has a better win rate with 70% as opposed to Petersson’s 63%. They have about the same amount of experience at 28 and 27 career fights, respectively. These two are pretty even across the board for skills so there’s not much to dissect there. Petersson is missing a tiny bit of both morale and energy while Courtial is only missing a little bit of morale. Altogether, I think Courtial is going to take this one via TKO.

***********************

Undercard Bout #5: Middleweights

James Kirk v Holden Gracie

Nati’s Take:

The final event on the undercard will be a middleweight bout between James Kirk and Holden Gracie. Two Gracies in one night? Wild. These two have a similar number of fights under their belts, but Holden has the better win rate at 71%, about 9% higher than Kirk’s. These two are pretty even in everything except wrestling, in which Kirk has an advantage. They’re missing almost identical amounts of morale and neither is missing any energy. This is actually a really hard one to choose from but I’m going to choose Kirk to win via decision.

***********************

A quick break here and Donkey and I will return with the Main Card folks!

***********************

Main Card Bout #1: Heavyweights

78e49da0eabaa1b46c4633ca76fbebe6.png

Alright, Donkey and I are back with you now as we get into the Main Card action for tonight!  And it looks like we’ve got two very large slabs of beef heading into the cage with even more Heavyweight action about to kick off tonight!

Gascoigne makes his Sucker Punch debut this evening after spending a run at ENIGMA and a bit more time before that at Blaze.  He finished up his ENIGMA stint with back to back wins, the most recent over former SPPS alum, Derwent Bolt…where he defeated the ground submission specialist in his own game after a very nice Triangle submission.  His ground game will remain a strength for him tonight with his black belt over Outlaw’s brown…while his other advantage will be in good ole morale.  Outlaw is lacking some heading into the cage this evening.

Outlaw had better hope that the lack of morale he’s walking into the cage with tonight doesn’t end up contributing to a loss.  He’s at about 1500 P4P ranking at the moment and the last thing he needs is to slip further towards 2000 P4P due to lack of preparation. That would put him on the doorstep for potential contract cuts!  Outlaw came into SPPS earlier this month and unfortunately found a loss waiting for him after a John Fury delivered TKO.  Clearly he’ll be looking to channel some of the finishes he dished out at CFC into the fight this evening.

Donkey’s Pick: Gascoigne via TKO (Strikes)

Gascoigne’s advantage is on the ground and with the submissions, but I just feel this goes another direction tonight due to Outlaw’s morale deficit.  We’ll see!

***********************

Main Card Bout #2: Lightweights

d1eaeb388f10704b307e2f15af995615.png

The Lightweights see their first representative action this evening as Crow and Rain prepare to battle!  Both are more or less fully prepared to get at it minus as small amount of energy for Crow which you’d hope he’s resting and recovering as we speak.

Crow had been struggling for a run at the beginning of the year as he put up a 1-4 record through May.  It seems he may have found his rhythm and confidence again in June and July though as he finished both fights against Smith and Revorg via TKO and…ouch…submission due to strikes…respectively.  I say ouch because that was against my own kid!  To the point though, Crow has always been an opponent that you have to be fully prepared to battle in all areas of the cage.

Rain is freshly arrived from CFC after he closed out one of the final cards over there with a KO over Roy Whitaker.  That gave him four wins over five fights and has him moving up the rankings quickly!  Could we see him in a Top Contender battle sooner than later?  Perhaps!  But the focus for him and his team had better be on figuring out how to handle Crow this evening!  Also a fighter who appears to be able to handle himself wherever the fight may end up, these two are set for what could become one of the ‘of the Night’ winning performances this evening!

Donkey’s Pick: Rain via Majority Decision

This is a tough, tough pick to make!  I love how these two bring so many facets to the cage this evening and excel in almost every area.  Truly a great fight in the making!  I’m not sure if this one gets finished this evening and if it goes to the judges, Rain seems to have it dialed in on how to get the decision.  So I’ll go with that!

***********************

Main Card Bout #3: Middleweights

d24bfc5465537c2842d5ab92ff8bb30a.png

Alright, halfway through the card here and we’ve got our third of four Middleweight contests on tap!  These guys will set the table for the Main Events this evening and given their skills it should be a solid contest between that classic striker versus ground specialist scenario!

Both have sensational wrestling but Law will boast a black belt in Jiu Jitsu over Jukassa’s brown.  Law will also bring a slew of former submissions in his back pocket giving him a ton of experience in that area!  That said, he does appear to be a bit susceptible to decision strikers and that’s exactly what he faces this evening.  He’s 4-1 over his last five fights with back to back submission wins heading into tonight so he and his team will undoubtedly be prepared to try for the trio of back to back wins!

Jukassa has back to back wins in June and July, both via decision, and heads into tonight looking to gain momentum in his bid to return to the title picture.  His loss of the belt to Shen Po via submission back in May could play on his mind this evening as he faces another submission artist.  However, Jukassa clearly has the right tools to get to Law’s weaknesses as well with his ability to win standing via either decision or finish!

Donkey’s Pick: Law via Submission (Armbar)

I’m going out on a limb with this pick because while Jukassa may have fallen to an elite ground specialist in Po, that is the only time in his entire career that he’s been submitted.  To have it happen again would show a deficiency in defense that I’m not quite sure actually exists!  So this is definitely a fight to watch tonight and should be one of the best!

***********************

Co-Main Event:

Featured Light Heavyweight Battle

c4f5d445ed71f0324abf9e1e38362cd7.png

Our Co-Main Event will be another battle between striker and submission artist!  Well…unless you ask Chestner.  He likens himself as a bit of a submission artist as well, but in this particular matchup he is definitely on the shorter side of that stick with Thai having the superior skills and history in that area.

Thai is attempting to get back on the horse here after back to back losses that saw his opportunity to get into the title picture fade away.  Decision losses to Ryan Bolt and Corcoran have some questioning if Thai’s focus on the ground game, with elite wrestling and black belt in Jiu Jitsu, is enough in today’s Sucker Punch MMA circles!  It’s a good question and one that Thai will have to answer tonight.

Chestner has the striking advantage this evening and we SHOULD see him try to keep this fight on the feet where he can capitalize.  Should.  Unless he and his team are stubborn as hell…which is a possibility!  Chestner, who was previously known at Iliya Topuria during a prior run here at Sucker Punch, is looking to get back to the success he had both at SPPS previously and WCF after that.  He’s on the right track with a return win over Vanorden last month via decision.

Donkey’s Pick: Thai via Submission (Triangle)

Chestner has more than a few wins via submission and while his Jiu Jitsu skills hang at the brown belt level his wrestling is elite just like Thai’s.  There’s a chance he doesn’t change his game plan and this one goes to the mat. He could win there as well. But if so, the odds have to be in favor of Thai.

***********************

Main Event:

Featured Middleweight Battle

e38657fe73d4144950ffc33f4fb74325.png

Our Main Event!  Elite Middleweights prepare to throw down as Bob and Kazuma look to the cage and what we all hope is an epic battle this evening!

For Bob, this is a fight he was hoping for in early July but a loss to Chip Nickel in a Top Contender battle cost him the opportunity.  Since then, Nickel captured the belt from Kazuma leaving Kazuma not only playing gatekeeper on the path to a title shot but also very much looking to lay claim to the belt again himself!  Nickel fights Hunt early in September, so it’s hard to say who will be waiting with the hardware, but the winner tonight between Bob and Kazuma will be challenging for it later in September!

There isn’t a whole lot to decipher or figure out here this evening.  Bob is a technical striker who can score points and get the win with the judges.  Kazuma is a heat-bringer who loves to finish it long before the cards ever come into play!  Which approach is going to earn a title shot in a few weeks?!?  We won’t know till these two are finished and the smoke clears tonight!

Donkey’s Pick: Bob via Unanimous Decision

I know most everybody out there is thinking, “There is no way the former champ doesn’t toss aside a competitor, even one as elite and skilled as Silent Bob, in his quest to regain the hardware!”  But here’s the thing…Bob has never…EVERRRRRR (said in my best Jericho voice!) been finished via strikes!  That’s actually shocking even given we know he has a granite chin.  But WHAT a granite chin that must be!!  Can Kazuma break granite?!?  We’re going to find out, but I’m calling for the upset!

***********************

Alright folks, we’re hoping that the left coast is ready for an explosion of action and excitement at the LA Colliseum this evening!  For those who can’t make it, we’ve also got a fantastic THREE HOUR PPV with the best quality production money can buy all lined up for you fine folks!  Can’t wait to get the action going!

Till then, have fun and don’t forget…

Oh look a KO not even a TKO, First time for everything huh? The only ones who can go toe to toe with Kazuma, are his fellow warriors. People who know bacon needs to be eaten as a solid 1lb slab, not these ones who divy it up into slice by slice until theyre satiated, Silent Bob was one of those slicers. He tried his best but when Kazuma dropped him the first time it was set it stone he may have a granite chin, but Kazuma has jackhammer hands. Unfortunately Bob made a crucial mistake

Kazuma takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Nobody makes Kazuma bleed his own blood, NOBODY.

Kazuma throws an overhand right that has Bob reeling! Kazuma follows up with more punches and Bob is out cold! This one is all over!

SUCKER PUNCH PREVIEW

Sucker Punch Pro Series 177

Welcome back Sucker Punch faithful!  It is I, Hare Rumpler, along with my pal and analyst, Donkey “Dan”!  Yes, I know, you’re just so thrilled!  Who wouldn’t be?  Ha! Well, maybe you’ll be at least a little thrilled if I tell you that we’ve got an amazing SPPS 177 on tap for you at the Colliseum in LA!  What makes it so special that you could be moved to be even happy, much less thrilled?!?  Well, how about not one…but TWO title fights on the line for the evening!  Yeah, I thought that’d do it!

I believe we’re also going to have NatiBatti joining us this evening for the Undercard.  Perhaps.  We shall see if that comes to pass or not!  If not, well, I suppose Donkey and I will ensure you get full coverage anyways!  (BONUS!!! I just got word that despite my belief that Nati was only doing the Undercard, she thought she was covering the entire event this evening!  So…since Donkey and I have already done half the Main Card…bonus coverage!  You get some NatiBatti input on those fights as well!  How about that?  Even more rambling to muddle through!  Hahahhaa!)

This card brings something for everybody.  We’ve got a Featherweight battle between Happy and Bandini in just the second fight of the night.  Want a little something more?  Ok, how about Lightweights when Whitaker and Rossi go at it to kick off the Main Card?  Beefier you say?  Welterweights perhaps?  Sure, two contests lined up with them, both to close out the Undercard with Martin and Sinclair as well as the big Co-Main Event as the Welterweight belt is on the line with Capac challenging Matsuzaka for the hardware!

But what about the upper weight classes?!?  Oh, sure, we got you covered there as well folks!  Middleweight is represented as Stanley and Barkley, the two “ley’s” in the mix, face each other in the second fight of the Main Card.  From there, the poundage piles up fast folks!  TWO Light Heavyweight bouts on the Undercard with our opener for the evening between Silva and Barnes and then Beckham and Kuznetsov a bit later.  And the BIG BOYS are definitely out to play this evening as you’ve got a trio of beastly battles ready to be waged this evening!  Pruitt and King are early in the middle of the Undercard but our other two showdowns of the behemoths take place in the lead-in to the Main Events with Fuentes taking on Aarnio and then, our final fight of the evening, the belt for the BMF of Sucker Punch (and the world in my opinion) gets scrapped over as Ben Slam defends against Eemeli Lampi!  Ooooh  yeah, good stuff!  No, great stuff!

Now, with that blabbering done, let’s get a quick word from our merchandise partner and sponsor and get into each fight in more detail!

1584375781SWN.jpg

Our fantastic and respected sponsor is Shadow Warrior Nutrition!   Many of you already know them as the providers of Shadow Warrior Tea 160Q., THE energy loss reduction supplements!  For those of you who aren’t in the know on that, you should be, because this is the way you keep your fighter training more often and not taking sessions off to try to keep his energy above 90%!  If you aren’t using this supplement, hurry over and check them out today, you will not be disappointed!

Now, let's get to it!

***********************

Undercard Bout #1: Light Heavyweights

Shogun Silva v Abraham Barnes

Nati’s Take:

The first event of the night will be a light heavyweight bout between Shogun Silva and Abraham Barnes. Both guys have subpar records, with win rates of 39% and 40%, respectively. At least their win rates are similar, so they suck equally. Silva has a slight edge in boxing and muay thai while Barnes has a slightly bigger edge in both wrestling and BJJ. Both guys are missing some energy and morale, but Barnes is missing more of both. Just because of that, I’m going to choose Silva to win this one via KO, because why not?

***********************

Undercard Bout #2: Featherweights

Anti Happy v Mac Bandini

Nati’s Take:

The next event will be a featherweight bout between Anti Happy (I don’t know why he’s against being happy, but ok) and Mac Bandini. These guys both also have subpar win rates at 41% and 47%. At least they’re a little better than the last guys. These guys are pretty even in everything except BJJ, where Happy has the advantage with his black belt. If I had to give the other 3 to one of them though, it does look like it’s leaning toward Bandini. Both guys have a little bit of morale missing but only Happy in missing energy. This means I will be picking Bandini to win this one, likely by decision because I think it’ll be close until the end.

Undercard Bout #3: Heavyweights

Solomon Pruitt v Jimmy King

Nati’s Take:

The third event of the night will be a heavyweight bout between Solomon Pruitt and Jimmy King. Although Pruitt technically has the better win rate, he has much less experience with only 8 fight throughout his career as opposed to King’s 22. They’re dead even in all skills except muay thai, where Pruitt has a tiny advantage. Both of them are missing morale and energy, but King is missing a more of both. Therefore, I’m going to choose Pruitt to win this one via TKO, since that is what he does most often.

Undercard Bout #4: Light Heavyweights

Beaudell Beckham Jr v Aleks Kuznetsov

Nati’s Take:

For event number 4, we will see Beaudell Beckham Jr against Aleks Kuznetsov in a light heavyweight bout. Beckham has a fun name, so bonus points there. Although Beckham has a much better win rate at 81%, which is very good compared to everyone before him tonight, he is a relatively new fighter still with only 8 bouts, about ⅓ of what Kuznetsov has. Their skills are pretty close in all except BJJ, where it leans toward Beckham and his black belt. Despite Beckham’s missing a little morale, I think he will win this one via TKO.

Undercard Bout #5: Welterweights

Bald Martin v Itchy Sinclair

Nati’s Take:

The final event of the undercard will be a welterweight bout between Bald Martin and Itchy Sinclair. I hate both of these names. Why are both of their first names adjectives? Can’t you people name these poor guys something normal? I also hate welterweights. I don’t know why, I just do. They don’t belong. All in all, I don’t like this matchup. But, nonetheless, I have to preview it so here we go. Sinclair has a better win rate at 71% compared to Martin’s 58%. Sinclair also has slightly more experience overall. These two have similar skills in boxing and wrestling while Sinclair has the advantage in BJJ with a black belt and Martin has the advantage in muay thai with a “sensational” rating. They both have almost full morale and energy, so that’s not a good factor to use here. I’m going to pick Sinclair to win via submission because we haven’t had one of those yet and he looks like he can do it. I hate submissions too now that I think about it.

Main Card Bout #1: Lightweights

Whitaker vs. Rossi II

5911e4b751aed811adf7b50c33dcd0de.png

Well folks, Donkey and I are back in action here as we hit the Main Card…don’t know whether you consider that a good or a bad thing, but it is what it is!  A pair of our Lightweights will kick things off for the second half of the card here and both are fully prepped…NICE!

Rossi and Whitaker are very closely matched in this contest with the exception of Jiu Jitsu where Rossi will give up the advantage.  Now, despite two losses in a row and then an unbelievable draw in his debut here at Sucker Punch early this month, Rossi still retains a P4P ranking close to 1100 or so.  He can thank the early part of his career for the majority of that although his run at CFC wasn’t too shabby either, hanging around .500 on average. He and his team would very much do well to get a win here though to avoid being 0-3-1 over the prior four fights and to keep that ranking from creeping too close to 2000 P4P.

Whitaker makes his debut tonight after fighting for CFC prior to the merger and Grunge before that under current management.  His career is extensive, so we won’t start going back through the myriad of other promotions and managers!  His last fight was against White Rain, who also slid over to us from CFC, and unfortunately for Whitaker it turned into a loss via KO early in the third round.  He’s got a 1-3 record going over his last four fights and much like Rossi, needs this one tonight!  Granted, his ranking is well under 1000 P4P right now, so he’s in no immediate danger, but hey, who doesn’t like a nice solid ‘W’ rather than another ‘L’?  Besides Edward Mills that is… Hahahahha!

Bonus!  Nati’s Take:

The first event of the main card will be a lightweight bout between Roy Whitaker and Marchrius Rossi. Both of these guys are very experienced fighters. Whitaker has fought in 48 bouts and has a 67% win rate to show for it and Rossi has fought in 21 fights and has a win rate of 64%. These two are pretty even in all skills except BJJ, where Whitaker’s brown belt gives him the advantage over Rossi’s purple belt. Both guys have good morale and energy with only Whitaker missing a small bit of morale. Nonetheless, I’m going to have to pick Whitaker for this one and he’s going to win via decision.

Donkey’s Pick: Rossi via TKO (Strikes)

I love how Hare just goes and completely glosses over the fact that these two have previously fought at CFC!  Back in early June no less!  That one ended with Rossi taking the win via KO in the second round.  And that’s par for the course for these two on their careers and makes sense given what I see.  Whitaker is predominantly a decision fighter and most of his losses have come via finishes.  On the feet.  Rossi is more balanced with some decision wins but also a decent number of finishes.  Regarding Whitaker’s Jiu Jitsu advantage, I don’t think it really factors in this evening.  Even if I hadn’t seen the results of the prior fight, I’d probably be leaning towards Rossi to finish in this one.  Whitaker needs to come with an adjusted game plan to prevent that outcome!

Main Card Bout #2: Middleweights

3281fe4352b1effd19c645ae7c0e5d9f.png

Another fight on the Main Card…and another two fighters fully prepped, gas tanks and morale all on high!  Yeah baby!  Barkley and Stanley, the “ley’s” of this card, are ready to get at it!

Much like the fight just prior to this these two are very evenly matched except in Jiu Jitsu where the Stan “ley” has the advantage.  Stan has won three of his prior four fights, all via KO!  All in the first round!  Only Landon McGuire narrowly escaped with a split decision victory.  Stan is also known to pull out the submission now and then as well, so unlike the prior fight, his Jiu Jitsu advantage cannot be ignored this evening!

The Bark “ley” in this battle will throw even more variables into the mix as he too can bring the power for KO finishes…but also does a good deal of quality technical striking for points and decisions.  He’s won two of his last three but had two losses prior to that so he and his team undoubtedly want to turn this into three W’s over the last four fights to erase any memory of the losses before that.

Bonus!  Nati’s Take:

Event number 7 will be a middleweight bout between Roger Michael Stanley (too many names) and Nick Barkley (snazzy name). These two have pretty similar win rates at 63% and 61%, respectively. They also have similar levels of experience. These two’s skills are close except BJJ, where Stanley has a huge advantage with a black belt over Barkley’s purple belt. Stanley is missing a small amount of morale, but other than that these guys have perfect morale and energy. I feel like Barkley might get this one via TKO. I’m not confident in that but I’ll stick with it anyways.

Donkey’s Pick: Stanley via Submission (Armbar)

Here’s what I’m going on for my decision here.  Stanley fought to a split decision loss against Landon McGuire as Hare mentioned.  Barkley also fought McGuire, but lost via submission.  I think that demonstrates a superior skillset on the ground for Stanley given he didn’t fall to McGuire in that way…and sets Barkley up for trouble if this fight hits the ground!  Prove me wrong Barkley!

Main Card Bout #3: Heavyweights

86fd5042a0f7582fbfe7abba154ebf94.png

Wooooo!  When you talk about even skillsets and closely matched battles…you don’t get much closer than this one between Heavyweights Aarnio and Fuentes!  Fuentes may have a sliver advantage in Muay Thai, but that’d be about it here!  And both are very well prepared as they get set to finish off what remains of this card before the two Main Events…as they should be given this is a Top Contender battle with a title fight opportunity on the line.  Assuming of course that Fuentes stays on with us if he wins.  Right now that’s not a given as he’s on the last fight of his contract this evening.

Aarnio has found a burst of motivation and drive since switching management teams! Now under Marky Mark, he’s rolled off two wins in a row, the first at SYN and then a big KO win over Robert MacArthur Jnr midway through the first round last month here at SPPS.  This is a man who lives and dies by the blade…or in his case…the KO.  Under former manager Gunner Knox he’d taken a turn into rough waters with three losses via TKO and KO.  Granted, those were against the elite of the elite such as Maluga and Barbarian over at SYN.  But now he faces Fuentes, and he’s about to find out that the competition doesn’t get any easier here at Sucker Punch!  Marky Mark will undoubtedly have him ready to give his best.

Igor Peixoto is still trying to decide where his boy Fuentes goes from here.  As mentioned, he’s on his last fight here at Sucker Punch but I’ve already been told that if he finds himself in line for a title shot he’s likely signing on again.  Well, there’s some motivation to get out there and give it your all Fuentes!  Fuentes, much like Aarnio, is a killer in the cage with some very heavy hands.  But, he also takes those shots at times and the result can be some nasty cuts as we saw against Hero Shima in his SPPS debut back in June.  And in two prior fights at SMASH.  And another beofore that.  And some more back at PANDA.  Sensing a trend here?  Yeah, this boy has a bleeding issu

Bonus!  Nati’s Take:

I’m tired and bored of this so we are going to speed run this now. That’s right folks, we’ve reached the point in the night where I don’t want to do this anymore. But here we are. Event 8 will be a heavyweight bout between Pedro Fuentes and Apollo Aarnio (epic name). These two have almost identical records so we aren’t going to dive very far into that. Their skills are also almost identical, so we have nothing to judge on so far. They’re also both only missing a little bit of morale a no energy. There’s not enough info on this fight so I’m going to have Siri flip a coin. Heads for Fuentes and tails for Aarnio. Siri says…tails. Looks like Aarnio. Via decision, obviously.

Donkey’s Pick: Aarnio via TKO (Strikes)

There is no doubt in my mind that this fight ends early.  Probably first round!  Why?  Because Fuentes is going to want to land the kill-shot long before he can potentially bleed out due to the heavy hands that Aarnio brings to the cage as well. If this fight goes long the risk of cuts getting out of hand gets pretty high for Fuentes.  Will Aarnio sit back and pick his shots hoping for that, or stand and exchange with power shots flying both ways? Fuentes is heavy handed, we know that from early in his career.  We also know that Aarnio has a granite chin.  That may be the difference maker right there if Aarnio can stand and handle the shots till the damage is done in return!

Co-Main Event:

Welterweight Championship Bout

63cb98fe75e25a03833587e2b84eeedf.png

Our Co-Main Event is the first of our two championship fights this evening!  Manco Capac steps into the cage to challenge Matsuzaka for the belt in this five round championship battle.

Capac will have the edge in Jiu Jitsu this evening, but a margin, with a black belt over Matsuzaka’s purple.  He will give up a small advantage in Muay Thai in exchange.  He won’t care about that MT issue if he can get this thing to the ground where he does some of his best work as Capac has won his last four fights in a row, three of them via submission!  This man is especially deadly when he gets hold of an arm…don’t give him your arm!!!...not if you like it where it already is or the angle it tends to bend in!

Matsuzaka will be laser focused on a first successful defense of his belt here at Sucker Punch.  He’s had the belt once before here, back in March, but was unable to defend later that month against Konrad Wagner.  There are three things you need to know about this man…first, he can finish.  Second, he can strike with the best technical strikers out there and win with the judges if need be.  And third…he has an uncanny ability to turn the cage into a horror scene by inflicting nasty cuts in his opponents’ noggins!  He’s done that to three different opponents during his run here at Sucker Punch alone!  That’s a bit insane, considering most of them didn’t have a clear proclivity to bleed!

Bonus!  Nati’s Take:

The co-main event tonight is the first of two title fights in which we will see Keisuke Matsuzaka try to defend his welterweight title against his challenger, Manco Capac. They have similar amounts of experience, but Matsuzaka has a better win rate. He also already has the title which gives him bonus points in my mind. These two are even in wrestling. Matsuzaka has a slight edge in both boxing and muay thai. Capac has a much bigger edge in BJJ with his black belt compared to Matsuzaka’s purple belt. Both of their energies and morales look pretty good, nothing stands out here. I’m going to go with Capac here and pick him to upset Matsuzaka to take the welterweight title. He will do this via KO (hopefully, we like KOs).

Donkey’s Pick: Capac via Submission (Armbar)

I’ll probably get murdered for this...considering we called out another fighter on the last card about having never taken a loss via strikes and sure enough, what happened?  He took his first loss via strikes.  So…here goes anyways. Matsuzaka has never been finished via submission.  If Capac wants to be the first to do that, and win the belt in stellar fashion, he has his work cut out for him.  But…I’m sniffing a potential upset here!

Main Event:

Heavyweight Championship Bout

19c3a83e5fe74627da8552624368c831.png

And our Main Event…the biggest fight of the night…features the BIGGEST FIGHTERS OF THE NIGHT!  Oh yeah, Heavyweight Championship on the line here as Eemeli Lampi steps into the cage on a mission to try to relieve Ben Slam of all that extra hardware he’ll be showing off to the crowd on his way to the down the ramp this evening!

Lampi has been in this situation more than a couple of times!  Granted, those times were when he was with the Light Heavyweight division.  But the fact is, this man seems to have learned as he went, first losing his original title shot to John Doe back in April of 2021…returning to the title fight against Jacob Parker four months later and winning it…despite failing to defend against John Fury. And then coming back for it again and winning against that very same John Fury in December.  The only thing he hasn’t figured out is how to shake off the pressure and nerves to defend, as he lost it in his defense the second time to Dempsey Oneill to start out the year here.  A couple stumbles followed, but he has now gone on a FIVE FIGHT winning streak since joining the Heavyweight division!  Yes, this man seems to have found his home…and it’s among the baddest MF’ers around.  When you down guys like Haden, Conchobhar, Kocak…and even the former nasty, brutal striking champion Wrecks…well, you’ve proven your point!  Here's a title match sir, good luck!

It is highly unlikely that Ben Slam will look impressed…or even phased…when he gets to the cage to defend his belt tonight!  He came into Sucker Punch back in April as part of our movement to fully unrestricted…UNRESTRAINED!...as a highly touted potential challenger for the belt.  Unfortunately, he fell immediately to Hero Shima, one of the best the division has to offer…a former champ himself.  That didn’t phase Slam, as he rebounded to defeat the former champ Wrecks via first round KO…then ran off another first round TKO over MacArthur Jnr!  His full revenge came in the next fight for the belt when he not only took his revenge on Shima, but took the hardware as well!  Next up…Felix Inarritu…KO midway through the first round for a fantastic first defense…a little something he can point to for Lampi and say, “See, that’s how it’s done!”.  Or perhaps he just intends to show Lampi up close and personally this evening?!?

Bonus!  Nati’s Take:

The main event will be another title fight, this time for the heavyweight title. Ben Slam will attempt to defend his title against his challenger, Eemeli Lampi (a name I’m familiar with, how nice). These two have pretty similar win rates at 72% and 71%, respectively. Slam has more experience, though. They’re close in everything except BJJ, where Lampi has a big advantage with his black belt against Slam’s purple belt (we’ve seen a lot of this dynamic tonight). Slam is also missing a little bit of morale. Not much, but enough for me to choose against him (this amount is completely subjective and changes every fight). I’m going to go with another upset, and choose Lampi to take the title via TKO, since that’s what he does best.

Donkey’s Pick: Slam via TKO (Strikes)

We’re about to see an explosion of fireworks in this one to cap off what should be an amazing night of fights at SPPS 177!  Both these Heavyweights bring the BOOOOOOM!  Only one can walk out the victor with the strap though…and given Slam has proven he knows how to make it happen in a defense, I have to look to his corner for the win…for now. Let’s make this one a fight to remember boys!

Keep it cheap and dirty…Sucker Punch Pro Series style!
