Top Fights for the coming Weekend...

CMMA 134

23rd July 2021

205lbs: Light-Heavyweight Fight
(#9) Tapu Koko “The Island Guardian (18-7) v (#2) Leonzar Kennedy (9-3)

Top 10 ranked light-heavyweights Tapu Koko and Leonzar Kennedy attempt to take the first steps on their comeback trails as both fighters enter the cage coming off of a loss.

For Tapu Koko, many believe that the former Island star has had his fifteen minutes of fame and that, at 30 years of age and getting into the game at a more advanced age, there is little chance of him asserting himself as a top fighter in the global light-heavyweight ranks at this point of his career. Whether or not you believe that to be true, Koko still has a part to play for the moment with a sizeable following and a proven ability to find the finish and put on exciting fights. Still, there is no denying that the game seems to be passing him by more and more these days leaving him with, more often than not these days, only a punchers chance.

His opponent Leonzar Kennedy will be more than aware of the danger that Koko holds in his hands and keen to push past the heavy-hitting New Zealand native with as little effort as possible. Kennedy has fought he way to the front of the line on no less than two occasions so far but each time has come up short against champion Joe Dinapoli. Though it's been said that Kennedy will need at least a couple of wins in a row before a third shot will given, the prospect of that encounter must be playing on the mind of the #2 contender and something he must contend with before each and every fight.

As already mentioned, Koko is largely outgunned in many areas but especially against the elite boxing skills that Kennedy will be bringing to the table. Still, with 17 KO finishes out of 18 wins to his name, Koko will always be a threat until he is put away but this is likely another fight in which he will be the heavy underdog.

265lbs+: Super-Heavyweight Fight
(#1) Dan Donovan (7-1) vs. (#7) Viper “Snake” Pitt (10-3)

An intriguing trilogy fight at the top end of the super-heavyweight ranks and the added incentive of a title shot going to the victor. Dan “Doughboy” Williams takes on Viper “Snake” Pitt.

The odds of a long and successful career are certainly stacked against these two big super-heavyweights as both entered the world of MMA at an age typically considered older than most. Pitt has actually already had a crack at Sean Harrison's super-heavyweight crown but fell far short. For Dan Williams, a title shot would be a career first.

Both fighters have one win apiece against each other and will be looking to get ahead in this little rivalry. Clearly both have incredible stopping power with 100% finish rates in their careers and extremely capable of turning the lights out on anyone. One wrong move in this one and it will be all over. Don't blink folks. This isn't likely to go past the first round.

205lbs: Light-Heavyweight Title Fight
(Champion) Joe “Levels” Dinapoli (13-0) vs. (#3) Vito “Firecat” Corleone (9-4)

Undefeated Light-Heavyweight star Joe “Levels” Dinapoli is the name on the marquee here tonight as he prepares to make an unprecedented tenth defence of his title belt. The challenger, Vito “Firecat” Corleone is a former C4 champion himself and has earned his way to a shot with wins over ranked contenders Moritz Zimmerman and Jean Lucroy.

For Dinapoli, Corleone's challenge will no doubt be a welcome change as he has defeated many of the most immediate threats in the light-heavyweight division. His most recent fight was a rematch against previously defeated Leonzar Kennedy in which Dinapoli improved upon their first meeting with a first round KO in just thirty-five seconds. Truth is that Joe Dinapoli is quickly growing too big for the 360k landscape and if his run of dominance continues he may well find himself surveying the open ID horizon for new challenges. For now however, Dinapoli seems content establishing an unrivalled legacy having recently signed a new contract and will be looking to make a successful tenth defence here tonight.

For Vito Corleone, no one can say he hasn't earned this shot. Often times, certain things are simply a matter of timing, and for Corleone he found himself just in the right place as he finished his most recent opponent Jean Lucroy by third round TKO and moved up to #3 off the back of a three fight winning streak. There are a few that believe that Corleone isn't on the same level as Dinapoli and that he stands little chance of taking away his title here. A lot of the time, statements like this end up meaning little in the grand scheme of things and that is exactly what Corleone's following will be hoping. Yes, it's true that Corleone will be a heavy underdog going into this and yes, it's also true that he hasn't managed to reach the same level of success as his opponent as yet but, be that as it may, Corleone has worked hard to get to this position and he will not be denied the opportunity to shine. Can he pull of the upset of the year? Tune in to find out

265lbs: Heavyweight Fight
(#2) Kimbo Slaissi (8-0) vs. (#9) Billy “Bulldozer” Blank (7-2)

A real treat in the co-main event of this card as undefeated heavyweight juggernaut Kimbo Slaissi makes his first appearance inside of the CaliMMA cage against on fire Billy “Bulldozer” Blank.

8-0 Kimbo Slaissi is a former super-heavyweight champion at Blaze but actually got his start over at unrestricted Odense MMA where he put together an impressive 5-0 run together before adding another three wins and a championship belt to his resume over at Blaze. All wins it must be added have come by KO within the first round. Slaissi certainly has a ton of potential going forward and is still incredibly young at only 21 years of age. He is also a very big heavyweight at two-hundred and eighty-nine pounds which qualifies him for the Super-Heavyweight division here at Cali should he feel the urge (which might actually give current champion Sean Harrison a few sleepless nights). For now though, he arrives in the 265lbs division and is just one successful debut away from a shot at it's title.

Opponent Billy Blank isn't going to roll over for Slaissi however and will be aiming to spoil the party before it's even begun. Blank has looked fantastic himself since joining CaliMMA and has managed to defeat everyone put in front of him and rack up a six fight winning streak. This in turn has catapulted him into the top 10 in the division and given him a firm base to take a step into the heavyweight title picture. A win here over the undefeated and highly hyped Kimbo Slaissi would certainly put him right smack bang in the middle of it.

Slaissi the slightly more well rounded overall but Blank's sensational boxing skills could be the great equaliser if put to good use. Blank has also yet to lose by KO with his rumoured cast iron jaw so far holding true against the giants he has faced. A big fight for both fighters but a lot of extra pressure will be on Slaissi as he arrives to a large fanfare and expectation.

205lbs: Light-Heavyweight Fight
(#5) Elijah Heartless (6-1) vs. (#8) Jeremiah Hill (5-1-1)

6-1 Elijah Heartless, formerly known as Eli Rambeau, makes his first appearance back in the cage after being unceremoniously rage sacked by crybaby Chris Karter. Now under the new tutelage of current #7 ranked manager Guilherme Godoi, Heartless looks to get straight back into winnings ways and perhaps earn a crack at the light-heavyweight title. He'll first have to get past #8 ranked new arrival Jeremiah Hill who is fresh off of his successful CaliMMA debut last time out. Hill, who has spent the majority of his time over at the new defunct C4 organisation will be bringing in a similar record of 5-1-1.

185lbs: Middleweight Fight
(#9) Sami "Riista" Rantanen (6-4) vs. (#NR) Kazuki Takeda (6-1)

#9 ranked Finnish fighter Sami Rantanen will be looking to get back on the right path after having his impressive form and six fighting winning streak halted by #2 ranked Kyle Switzer in his last bout. He takes on unranked submission specialist Kazuki Takeda who returns after a successful CaliMMA debut last time out and who will be looking to potentially climb inside the top 1000p4p ranks for the first time in his career. A tough comeback fight for Rantanen who will need to rely heavily on his exceptional and superior wrestling skills to keep this fight from hitting the floor.

265lbs+: Super-Heavyweight Fight
(#10) Josh “The Cow Tipper” Marmalade (7-4) vs. (#NR) Ghengis Kahn (2-5)

Stocky Alabama native Josh Marmalade has been in fine form for best part of half a year but suffered his first loss in five fights last time out as he fell to current #2 Khabib Furguson. He makes his return in the wild lands of the Cali super-heavyweight division against newcomer Ghengis Kahn  who comes to Cali with a record of 2-5. A very young prospect with a lot of time ahead of him but a tough debut fight to get him started here.

CMMA 136

25th July 2021

1626164883CMMA_136.jpg

185lbs: Middleweight Fight
(#NR) Jack “Pumpkin King” Skellington (10-1) vs. (#2) Kyle “Rock N Roll” Switzer (10-2)

A big clash in the top ranks for the Cali Middleweight division as the super popular Jack “Pumpkin King” Skellington takes on #2 ranked contender Kyle “Rock N Roll” Switzer.

It's going to be a massive jump up in competition for Skellington here who has somehow managed to consistently defy the odds and find a way to defeat his more well rounded opponents. Though half of his 10-1 record has been built in the wild lands of the QFC system, the other half has been just as successful with wins in what is now Wolfpac Fighting Alliance and the defunct C4 organisation. Not quite able to reach the title picture stage as yet but without question a win here would prove his position as a legitimate contender.

Opponent Kyle Switzer is a CaliMMA lifer and has grafted his way up the ranks to his current position of #2. Getting his start back at CMMA 18 with a successful debut against Julian Tremblay in which he won by first round KO and began his first streak of wins, Switzer has amassed an impressive 10-2 record and now stands on the precipice of a title shot.

If there is a such a thing as a “punchers chance” then surely Skellington is the grappling equivalent. With no discernable striking skills to speak of, he is going to have to somehow navigate first Switzer's high level muay thai and boxing skills just for a chance at getting the fight to the floor and then, if he can do that, he will need to then break down Switzer's solid defensive grappling abilities in order to add to his already impressive list of submission victories. It's safe to say that few are picking Skellington to pull off this mammoth feat and will instead be putting their life savings on Switzer to get the job done and finally earn that elusive shot at the title that he has been missing since starting his MMA career.

155lbs: Lightweight Fight
(#1) Evan Duvernay (9-1) vs. (#7) Damian “Snake” Tonon (10-5)

Former title challenger Even Duvernay returns to the cage for the first time since losing his debut  bid to take the title from Rod De Minuar and he is facing hungry up and comer Damian “Snake” Tonon who is looking for his own shot at the gold.

Duvernay isn't used to defeat but that is exactly what he had to deal with following his high profile debut here at CaliMMA. The former C4 champion's run of nine straight wins came to an abrupt halt as he fell to an agonising five round judges decision loss to champion Rod De Minaur that earned them fight of the night honours. Previous to that, Devernay's star had been rising higher and higher as he racked up win after win in various orgs and he will likely be extremely eager to get back into the cage and get things back on track.

Damian Tonon is a CaliMMA old guard having got his start back at CMMA 8 in June of 2020. There was a brief and successful spell at Byzantium in between but generally, Tonon has fought the majority of his career here at Cali. He has put together some little runs here and there but largely just skirted underneath the top 10. Now, once again finding some solid form, he has launched himself into the top ten at #x and has a great opportunity to take home a big scalp in Duvernay.

Duvernay will be relying heavily on his sensational striking skills to put Tonon away before he can cause any trouble on the ground. 90% of Tonon's wins have come via submission and that's not an area that Duvernay is likely to have spent much time training for. Still, Duvernay hasn't yet found himself tapping to any strange submission holds so far with his single loss coming at the hands of a judges decision. Tonon has been much more up and down over the course of his career and is likely seen as a heavy underdog but with so much to gain with a victory here, many will be rooting for him to pull it off.

135lbs: Bantamweight Fight
(#2) Caio Peieira (10-6) vs. (#6) Charlie “Osage” River (1-0 MMA, 11-4 KT)

A cracking little fight coming up in the bantamweight division features former featherweight title contender Caio Peieira taking on KT cross over star Charlie “Osage” River. Peieira has had quite the storied career already at CaliMMA having been a mainstay of the 145lbs division for practically the entirety of his professional life. After coming close to the title on a couple of occasions, Peieira accepted the challenge of moving down in weight and has so far been successful. His opponent Charlie River made the jump to MMA after finding his options in the KT world extremely limited. A superb debut in MMA for the Monegaw Springs man saw him knock out opponent Henry Keaty in just a little over a minute of the first round. With such striking pedigree taking on the submission skills of BJJ Brown Belt Peieira, this fight is sure to come to a decisive end.  With the winner likely to earn themselves a title shot that would be a very positive outcome indeed.

135lbs: Bantamweight Fight
(#NR) Kosmodrom Baikonurov (2-1) vs. (#7) Napoleon Panda (5-3)

Elsewhere in the bantamweight ranks, recently successful CaliMMA debutante Napoleon Panda makes his return as he takes on former title contender Kosmodrom Baikonurov. Baikonurov was of course one of the first to fight for the fledgling division title when it opened but was unable to capitalise on the opportunity. Coming in off of a first round TKO victory over Shahram Shiekhan, he will be looking for make the climb back in the the top 10 with a victory over the ranked Panda. With a record of 5-3 and all five wins coming by way of submission however, the BJJ Brown Belt Panda is going to be no pushover at all.

Top Fights for the coming week...

CMMA 137
30th June 2021

1626456081CMMA_137.jpg

185lbs: Middleweight Bout
(NR) Kim Kitsuragi (6-1) v (#4) Manny Taveres (9-1)

A massive test for Cali newcomer Kim Kitsuragi as he takes on former middleweight champion Manny Taveres. Taveres is already on the comeback trail after posting a first round KO win over former top 10 Quintas Dias at CMMA 126 and will be looking to insert his name directly into the title picture with a win over hot prospect Kitsuragi. Kitsuragi makes his way over from the higher ID Sucker Punch Pro organisation but will be fighting for the first time under the new management of Judo Beau. Beau is, of course, a member of the recently crowned Alliance World Champions Keyboard Warriors and will be himself looking to get his new prospect straight up into title contention.

Both fighters with only one loss on their records, both of those coming by way of decision. Other that that its fair to say that they are both generally finishers and that this fight is unlikely to end by decision. Tavares will be the favourite going in but Kitsuragi has much to gain here and motivation to get the win will not be lacking.

145lbs: Featherweight Bout
(#5) Abdelrahman Camara (13-3) v (#8) Ibasour Surshurrapal (9-4)

A big fight at the top end of the featherweight ranks pits two fighters looking to get back into winning ways. Former title contender here at Cali, Abdelrahman Camara takes on the exotically named Ibasour Surshurrapal.

Despite not being in the best of form of late, Abdelrahman Camara maintains a sizeable following of loyal fans and has managed to hang on to his top 10 status since arriving at CaliMMA back in February of this year. Currently under his third management team, Abdelrahman will be hoping to return himself back to the lofty heights enjoyed at the beginning of his career of which saw him capture two different championship belts in two separate orgs. Already with a failed attempt at Zai Druggs featherweight crown, Camara will be buoyed by the fact that Druggs has now retired and could very quickly find himself with another opportunity with a couple of wins. For Ibasour Sursharrapal, his career has largely been two steps forward and then one back. Generally considered forward progress by most but for Sursharrapals manager David Septim, he is likely to be expecting more. A recent loss to Joe Biden in a fight that would have given him a shot at vacant title will be fresh in his memory and the BJJ brown belt will be anxious not to add another loss to his existing four.

Camara has the edge in skills but Surshurrapal has the slightly better form. With the featherweight division only just recovering from the sudden departure and retirement of Zai Druggs, there are major opportunities to make big jumps in the title picture right now.

CMMA 138
31st June 2021

1626456099CMMA_138.jpg

205lbs: Light-Heavyweight Bout
(#1) Sora Izangagi (6-1) vs. (#3) Moritz Zimmerman (8-3)

A number one contender match up in the CaliMMA light-heavyweight division headlines event 138 with #1 ranked Sora Izangagi taking on #3 ranked Moritz Zimmerman.

These two fighters will be meeting for the first time as Izangagi only recently arrived from the old C4 org where he'd managed a solid 4-1 record. Now, fresh off a huge win over solid prospect Dempsey O'Neil in his Cali debut, Izangagi get's an opportunity for something that has as yet aluded him and that's a shot at a championship belt. First though he needs to get past Cali lifer Moritz Zimmerman who's incredible submission prowess as seen him reach as high as title challenger in the 205lbs division. Eager to get himself back up to that level once again, Zimmerman will be looking to make Izangagi victim number nine and earn himself a second shot at the Cali light-heavyweight championship.

Izangagi will be the favourite going in with only one loss to his name and as yet having not been finished. Zimmerman has suffered a couple of KO's in his career but fortunately for him Izangagi isn't known for his knockout power. Zimmerman the submission wizard. Izangagi the technical all round striker. Let's see who fights for the title next!

185lbs:Middleweight Bout
(#5) Hayn Diesel (6-0) v (#6) Mustafa Owens (6-1)

Two up and coming prospects look to establish themselves in the CaliMMA middleweight division as undefeated Hayn Diesel takes on six fight winning streak Mustafa Owens.

Hayn Diesel was actually the last middleweight champion of what was then C4 org and arrives without ever having actually lost it. This fine accomplishment was achieve on May 1st 2021 and this will be his first return to the cage some three months later. Opponent Mustafa Owens might not have had the opportunity as Diesel yet but none the less has been in similarly fine form after suffering a loss in his professional debut back in May 2020. Since then he has managed to rack up a superb six wins in a row and remains undefeated in five here at CaliMMA

Another clear striker versus grappler showdown with the winner likely only a fight or two away from a title shot.

185lbs: Middleweight Title Bout
(CHAMP) Barack Obaminator (12-3) vs. (#1) Carter Wright (8-0-1)

What a fight this one is going to be folks. The two time reigning CaliMMA middleweight champion Barack Obaminator taking on the undefeated former King of Fighters champion Carter Wright.

It's been quite a year so far for Barack Obaminator who's failed attempt at regaining his middleweight title early in the year deterred him not in the slightest. Picking himself up and dusting himself off, Obaminator got straight back on the winning road taking out big names such as Kyle Switzer and Quintus Dias as well as avenging January's title loss against Gus McCrae (who had since lost the belt) His dogged persistence and stellar performances paid off big time earning him his third shot at the title against Principo Adam at CMMA 126 and this time he would not be denied winning a five round decision to reclaim the gold once more.

Opponent Carter Wright has also been having a good year so far and in fact, could be said to be having a perfect one. He captured the KoF title at the end of January this year and went on to defend it a further four times before leaving the org in a cloud of mystery. With the only blemish on his record being an unsanctioned amateur draw at the start of his career, Wright is still technically undefeated in nine bouts and would like nothing better than to make the CaliMMA middleweight title number ten. He certainly has the firepower to pull it off too with every single one of his eight victories coming by way of KO.

On paper, Wright looks to be coming in as the slight favourite. With the more refined stand up skills and a perfect 100% record of finishes, he will certainly be able to finish Obaminator if he manages to catch him cleanly. On the flip side, Obaminator does have an impressive seven submission victories to his name and you get the feeling that this route right here will be the safest and most effective in the face of such heavy artillery. This could easily be the toughest challenge he has faced in his carreer so far. Can he keep hold of the belt he has fought so hard to reclaim? We can't wait to see.

265lbs: Heavyweight Title Bout
(CHAMP) Beau Abner (9-0) vs. (#4) “Mad” Anthony Wayne (9-2)

Easily a headliner on any other card, undefeated heavyweight champion Beau Abner faces his next challenger “Mad” Anthony Wayne.

Another product of the Andy Down management team, Beau Abner arrived at CaliMMA as the reigning C4 heavyweight champion and as such was given the immediate title shot against Cali champion Kjetil Olsen. Abner took his chance in spectacular fashion by finishing the the big Norwegian in only five seconds. This put the rest of the division on immediate notice that there was a new destructive force in town and that it is going to need something a little special to take it out.

Opponent Anthony Wayne got his start at the teenage fight club Florida Fight Squad where he built up an impressive resume of five wins, four of which were by KO and three of those that were by spectacular head kick finish. He made the move over to CaliMMA and though he has suffered a couple of losses during his time, for the most part he has been steadily climbing up the ranks and even adding another couple of head kick KO's to the record. Now, with a three fight winning streak behind him, Wayne has earned himself a well deserved shot at the the title. A first for his young career.

The champion Abner will be a strong favourite here once more as he has an edge in the key areas of the fight. Wayne is no slouch in the stand up though and has obvious power in his hands. Enough to trouble the new champion for sure. He would just have to be the first person to do it as, so far, no one has really come close. Whatever the result, one fighter that will be watching closely is newly arrived Kimbo Slaissi who made his successful CaliMMA debut and is now firmly established as the next number one contender.

Top Fights for the coming Weekend...

1627268486Cali%20Poster.png

CMMA XS3

5th August 2021

170lbs: Welterweight Bout
(#6) Nick Barkley (7-3) vs. (#4) Dude “El Duderino” McWrestler (8-4)

Headining CMMA XS3 are two top Cali welterweights looking to stake another claim in the 170lbs title. Dude McWrestler, formerly part of the ill-fated Doc Zoidberg team that was disbanded due to rampant drug use and accusations of inappropriate locker room shower etiquette, is now back under the new management of plumber/journalist Marius Catalin and looks to quickly pick up where he left off. Opponent Nick Barkley, managed by Convicted's Jason Smith, returns to the cage after a strong performance against Rich Mahogany in which he won by second round KO.

McWrestler a former champion at this weight. Barkley, a one time title contender. Two fighters still riding the fringes of Cali welterweight big time. McWrestler with a clear advantage on the ground meaning that Barkley must keep this fight standing at all costs to stand a chance. A massive fight for both warriors.

205lbs: Light-Heavyweight Bout
(#NR) Dempsey O'Niell (7-3) vs. (#NR) Renato Atunes (7-2-1)

Former title challenger Dempsey O'Niell takes on former C4 light-heavyweight champion Renato Atunes with both fighters looking to batter their way into the Cali 205 Top 10.

O'Neil coming in with only three wins out of his last five which is far below the acceptable standard set by current #1 manager Andy Down. Down is confident that his fighter will be better going forward but his form has to be playing on his mind at least a little. Atunes, currently three fights in under the new management of Nicholas Bowers, has been doing well since arriving at Cali with a record of two wins and one draw. Still, rumours are that Atunes hasn't been preparing right for a match up of this calibre at all with acquaintances stating that he isn't even a member of a gym at the time of writing. If this is the case, expect a quick and brutal finish from O'Neil to be on the cards.

CMMA 140

5th August 2021

155lbs: Lightweight Fight
(#7) Mehdi “The Persian Nightmere” Kanaani (11-4) vs. (#8) Frank “The Legion” Morrison (12-5)

Online personality Mehdi Kanaani is back along with his very vocal manager Olande Darc although things have been a eerily quiet from the camp as of late. Possibly due to suffering his first loss since arriving at Cali when he lost a close but unanimous decision to Russian striker Lyoha Nagibatel or possibly due simply to internet connections? Who knows folks but he is back regardless and the fans can't wait. He'll be taking on BJJ brown belt Frank Morrison who has gone 1-1 since arriving back at Cali and 12-5 overall. Morrison has challenged for welterweight titles in two separate orgs but as has yet failed to capture any gold. With a move down to 155, Morrison looks to take advantage of being the bigger fighter but so far the jury is out on that decision.

An intriguing fight and one that could end up going the distance. Kanaani has yet to be knocked out in fifteen fights and eleven of Morrison's seventeen professional bouts have all gone the distance. Kanaani might be the favourite on paper though Morrison is guided by former #3 manager Buff Minion who has been in the game a good while now. Definitely a fight to keep an eye on.

185lbs: Middleweight Fight
(#NR) Quintus “Bestiarii” Dias (7-4) vs. (#NR) Charles Murdock (8-6)

Co-headlining the CMMA 140 card is two tough, hard hitting warriors that are somehow racking up more losses than they probably should. Quintus Dias has not long been fighting under the California MMA flag but so far it's been a somewhat disappointing transition from his old C4 home of which he briefly held their 185lbs title. Currently 0-2 here, Dias needs to a big performance to stop this slump from becoming something serious. His opponent Charles Murdock is fast becoming known as a hard as nail, impossible to put away Cali veteran who is also skirting the edges of moving into journeyman status. With a record of 8-6 overall, Murdock is 2-3 in has last five and his fans would love nothing more than to see him put together a little run and move into the top 10 in the division.

With both fighters just outside of the top tier of 185lbs fighters, a win here for either would do a lot to get them up amongst them.

CMMA 141

7th August 2021

155lbs: Lightweight Title Fight
(Champ) Satanic Panic (11-2) vs. (#3) Keith Seng (8-4)

It didn't take long for disgraced former King of Fighters champion Satanic Panic to climb back upon the throne but that's exactly what he did when he wrested the CaliMMA middleweight title from long time champion Rod De Minaur back at CMMA 131 last month with a fourth round triangle armbar submission victory. Now, making the first defence of his new shiny gold belt, he will face number one contender Keith Seng who has been in tremendous form of late and comes into this fight on a three fight winning streak of KO finishes over fighters such as Frank Morrison and Da Lusen.

Panic is certainly putting a lot on the line here in his first defence with a few rumblings from his fans that Seng isn't quite on the same level as Panic in terms of putting asses on seats. Panic hasn't voiced any such complaints himself with seemingly zero hesitation in signing the fight agreement. Still, this is a major opportunity for Seng who's last shot at title glory was a failed attempt against Rod De Minuar back in March of this year. A tricky first defence for Panic who will be eager to get this one behind him and begin to assert his dominance over the 155lbs division.

265lbs: Heavyweight Fight
(#1) “The Nobleman” Adils Hallbjornsson (10-1) vs. (#4) Richard “Weapon X” Rockefeller (8-2)

With newly arrived prospect Kimbo Slaissi declining the next shot at the title after his successful Cali debut at CMMA 135, this co-main event between former champion Adils Hallbjornsson and Richard Rockefeller will serve to determine the number one contender to recently crowned champion Beau Abner.

Both fighters have some solid firepower at their disposal and most would be shocked if it went the distance. Hallbjornsson has the slight edge in stand up skills however and will be the favourite to get the win. What an opportunity for Rockefeller to spoil the comeback story of the former champ and steal a shot at the gold for himself.

CMMA 142

8th August 2021

185lbs: Middleweight Fight
(#UR) Dick Army Jr (10-6) vs. (#4) “Il Monachus” Principo Adam (8-1)

Former champion Principo Adam returns to the cage after his brief stint as champion came to an end at the hands of Barack Obaminator. He begins the arduous task of pushing through the rest of the hungry challengers to earn his return shot and the first challenge will be against Cali veteran Dick Army Jr who comes into the fight having won his last two.

Army Jr moved down to 185lbs back in March of this year after a bad spell of results at 205lbs. So far it's been par the course with a 3-2 record and he will no doubt be looking to improve on this further and really take a big step into the top ranks of the CaliMMA middleweight division. What better way then to take out a former champion? It's going to be extremely hard going however as Adam has only the one loss on his record and so far, in nine fights, has yet to be finished in anyway.

Adam will be the big favourite in this one but Army could pose some interesting problems for the holy man.

145lbs: Featherweight Fight
(#5) Middle Finger (8-3) vs. (#6) Brett “Individual” Keane (5-2)

An exciting scrap between two top 10 featherweights Middle Finger and Brett Keane awaits those who tune in for the CMMA 142 co-main event.

Middle Finger, a former Grumpy protege, makes his return for the second time under new manager Butch Harris and looks to continue his journey towards title contendership. Standing in his way is young mauy-thai fighter Brett Keane who is coming in off of a successful Cali debut as well as a very impressive four fight winning streak.

Finger is a heavy favourite here with Keane needing to overcome a massive gulf in the experience department. Still, with both fighters having perfect KO finishes in all their wins the chance of an upset wouldn't be too shocking.

CMMA XS4

8th August 2021

265lbs: Heavyweight Fight
(#3) Kjetil Olsen (7-2) vs. (#5) Dimitri “The Silent Storm” Svyatogor (12-3)

A big heavyweight clash between two fighters looking to get back on the comeback trail. Former CaliMMA heavyweight champion Kjetil Olsen, fighting under the new management of Optimal MMA Picks, takes on former Byzantium heavyweight champion Dimitri Svyatogor.

Going to be very interesting to see how Olsen does from here as his new manager made it very clear that he was excited to get the opportunity to work with him and believes that he can do great things with him. He definitely doesn't have a problem putting guys away with his perfect 100% record of finishes, the real concern lies in his defensive capabilities and this could be something Svyatogor will be looking at closely too. Both fighters still with only with basic ground skills which leads us to believe there is only one way this fight is going to go. On the feet with someone getting KTFO.

170lbs: Welterweight Fight
(#10) Walad Anubis (5-4) vs. (#7) “Cow Puncher” Toby Keith Yrkje (9-4)

A rematch between two Top 10 welterweights Walad Anubis and Toby Keith Yrkje where not quite three months past, Yrkje was able to get a first round submission win over Anubis.

Anubis is now under the new management of John Wayne but unfortunately things didn't quite go to plan in their first match together as he lost to Dude McWrestler at CMMA 127. Still, he is a former C4 welterweight champion so the pedigree is there to be tapped into. Opponent Yrkje briefly held the CaliMMA welterweight title back in October of last year but since that time has gone an even 4-4 and is coming into the bout on a two fight losing streak. One of which was a close five round decision loss to champion Konrad Wagner for the belt.

Will be interesting to see how Anubis aims to tackle Yrkje's black belt level submission skills this time around under different manager. The pressure will also be on him as a loss here would likely put him outside of the top 10 and increase his losing streak to three in a row.

Mehdi Kannani about his upcoming fight:

  - Is all good. Morrison is a good guy and I know he think that will be easy but I am not an easy fight. Last fight with Lyoha was a loose, a close one but a win is a win. I was in a bad mood, I was active and then a little pause… I don t like when my true potential is not showed so I will like to fight right after my upcoming fight. Win, loose, I know who I am. Morrison knows to, ask him guys. Just ask him how many time he got dropped, ask how is like to go to a lower weight class only because he thinks he has an advantage because at 170 tasted the mat. I was fighting at 135 and then moved to 145 and know I am at 155. I can go to 170 if it takes. Please Morrison say something smart and don t act like a coward. Are you there pussy?

Mehdi Kanaani after the fight gived some words :

  - I think I destroyed my record right now, hard but I must accept it and not the record the fact that Morrison won.  Respect to Morrison, was his night what I can say, he was a better fighter then me. Something happened to me after Zai Druggs trashtalk, he retired I waited for the fight offer and him don t accepted it, maybe my trainng was wrong idk but I must learn something from my last 2 looses and I must comeback because one day I will fight for one of the belts from here. McWrestler, win or loose I sayed that I wanna fight you anytime in a grudgefight for 5 rounds. Once I sayed here on forums to give me the occasion to fight 5 rounds vs Estili. I am still here so, me and this dude we want to make history here so let s go. And I will be back! For all the haters that talk shit about me, fuck you! I am ready to die, look at my face. I have no problem with damage like some cowards from here.

Top Fights for the coming Weekend...

CMMA 143

13th August 2021

265lbs+: Super-Heavyweight Title Bout
(Champ) Sean Harrison (8-2) vs. (#1) Dan “Doughboy” Donovan (8-1)

The story of underdogs is a well written and much beloved fable that has come in many iterations over the course of human history. David versus Goliath, George versus the Dragon, Rocky Balboa versus Apollo Creed. These stories give us hope that, in the right moment and with bravery and a strong spirit, we can overcome any obstacles put in front of us no matter how insurmountable they may seem. At our headlining bout at CMMA 143, we have such a moment.

8-2 super-heavyweight champion Sean Harrison defends his title for the fifth time since capturing it back in March this year. It's been a frustrating time for Harrison who has decried the lack of credible contenders in the division and would much prefer to be cracking skulls at heavyweight if not for fellow stable mate and champion Beau Abner. Instead he toils away in a division that he feels is largely beneath him in fights that most athletic commissions would need extra “incentive” to sanction. His next challenger is unlikely to change his feelings on the matter but for the fans who enjoy the “freakshow” fights, this one is for you.

At 300lbs and with a record of 8-1, Dan “Doughboy” Donovan certainly doesn't look out of place standing next to Harrison. The bare truth of the matter is however that Donovan has only the basic skills to get by in an MMA fight but has used them to great effect and climbed his way up to the top of the CaliMMA ranks to earn himself a shot at the title. Many will argue that the competition he has faced does not prepare him for someone of Harrisons calibre and they just may have a point as Harrison will be Donovan's toughest fight by far. Whatever your feelings on it though, Donovan has done only what is asked of him and that is beat however is put in front of him. He has also done it in spectacular fashion by knocking everyone he has faced.

Completely outgunned in every area of the fight, Donovan has only the faintest chance of pulling off the upset here but if he could somehow manage it then it would be something spoken about in the game for years to come.

170lbs: Welterweight Bout
(#8) Dwight Schrute (11-7-1) vs. (NR) Ante “Saibaba” Pavlovic (10-2)

Up until this point, Dwight Schrute has pretty much gone unnoticed in the CaliMMA welterweight division with a pretty unremarkable 11-7-1 professional record. However, over the past several months Schrute has put together a noteworthy run of five KO victories in a row which has seen him climb into the welterweight top 10 for the first time since arriving. His opponent Ante Pavlovic is also in good form as he comes in on a three fight winning streak but compared to Schrute has far less losses littered around on his resume. He is also a former title contender in two separate organisations which means he is no stranger to high pressure bouts.

A win for Pavlovic would likely put him into the Top 10 himself and take him another step towards the big time here at Cali. You could argue that Schrute is just a little bit closer at this point and so this fight will carry a lot of importance for anyone hoping to become champion one day.

CMMA 144
14th August 2021

170lbs: Welterweight Title Bout
(Champ) “Dr.Drillfist” Konrad Wagner (13-2) vs. (#1) Rene Lafayette (16-4)

“Dr.Drillfist” Konrad Wagner is back once more and will be making his fourth title defence against an opponent already previously defeated, Rene Lafayette.

Wagner has been in top form having not lost a fight all year and his winning streak has now been extended to seven in a row following his third round TKO victory over a tough Grumpy Bastard fighter Mental Warrior. Its safe to say that things are looking up for the Berlin native but then things can and do change often in the world of MMA.

Opponent Rene Lafayette hasn't actually been in the greatest of form overall but gets the nod as number contender largely off Island glory as well has his two recent victories over Nick Barkley and Abdul Kaloev.

The keys to victory here will come down largely to whether Lafayette can get Wagner off his feet or not. Wagner has never been KO'd and Lafayette isn't known for his punching power. He is known for submissions however and Wagner has been tapped before once in only two losses. Another highly likely possibility is the fight going to the judges in which case both fighters are going to have to carefully weigh up risk and reward here. With a title on the line though we can only hope that things end decisively.

185lbs: Middlweight Bout
(#1) Kyle “Rock N Roll” Switzer (11-2) vs. (#6) Ansis Kaupens (8-2)

Co-main event at CMMA 144 is a fight that could have easily found itself headlining any other card in California MMA history. #1 ranked Kyle Switzer takes on #6 ranked Ansis Kaupens in what is likely to decide who gets the next shot at the CaliMMA middleweight crown.

Kyle Switzer is Cali lifer having gotten his start here back in July of 2020 and has eventually made his way to the front of the line and racked up a very impressive 11-2 record along the way. It's surprising that Switzer has never been offered a title fight before this point actually with the list of exciting first round KO's liberally dotted around on his record but it is what it is and Switzer just needs to add one more before guaranteeing himself the opportunity. Opponent Ansis Kaupens on the other hand hasn't been at Cali very long but has looked impressive since arriving two fights ago with wins over Gwarsenio Hall and Ilya Kushnirov.

With neither fighter ever having earned a title shot in their young careers this fight is going to come with a lot of pressure. The thought of getting so close to a chance at the big time only to stumble at the last obstacle has to be playing on their minds. Can't wait to see who is able to hold strong

CMMA 145
15th August 2021

145lbs: Featherweight Title Bout
(Champ) Yasha “Ferocious” Big Mouth (11-3) vs. (#1) Naoko Marui (15-12)

Third time was indeed a charm for Yasha Big Mouth who makes his return to the cage as the newest CaliMMA featherweight champion. He defeated rival Joe Biden to claim Zai Druggs vacated belt and now attempts to make the first defence of his career.

Opponent Naoko Marui made his name after participating on season eleven of The Island. He amassed a busy but wining 11-7 record before moving on to the mainland where he fought in numerous orgs and ultimately ended up at California MMA. He didn't get the best of starts but his recent two results have been enough to earn him a shot of the title in the still developing 145lbs division.

This should be a fairly straight forward defence for Big Mouth as Marui, for as game as he is, doesn't quite match up to the overall all round skills the champion. He does hit particularly hard for a featherweight though so Big Mouth will need to be careful not to get complacent and end up adding to Marui's existing list of twelve knockouts.

185lbs: Middleweight Bout
(NR) Jack “Pumpkin King” Skellington (10-2) vs. (#7) Sami “Riista” Rantanen (7-4)

It's always tough for those who get into MMA at an older age especially when you watch all of the younger fighters quickly catch up and then start to pass you by in terms of skills. Two such fighters will be facing off against each other in the CMMA 145 co-main event as Jack Skellington and Sami Rantanen meet for the first time in their careers.

Skellington, a BJJ brown belt submission specialist, has definitely made the best of the skills that he possesses but in his last bout he learnt a tough lesson about the skills he doesn't. With not even the most basic of striking skills to his name he was quickly dispatched by Kyle Switzer when his take downs were unable to land. Opponent Rantanen also has a loss to Switzer on his record though his skill set is much more well rounded than Skellington's.

Skellington is a very popular fighter and though he dropped out of the Top 10 after his last loss, he could easily shoot back up the rankings here with a win. For Sami Rantanen who is currently ranked #7, a win could put him back on the title trail once more. A tough fight to predict with everything really coming down to whether Rantanen can avoid being taken down to the ground by the the superior submission fighter Skellington

By commentary, 49-46, decision, 47-48... absurd.

We're 1-1, so this demands an immediate rubber match.

Rubber match will be epic down the line but let's let the division run its course for the moment to keep things fresh for everyone. Wagner has been an awesome champion and I don't doubt that he'll be back in title contention within a couple of fights.
