Round 7 Recap (Semi-Finals)

The penultimate round of action in the Alliance World Championship would confirm all finishing places from 15th up unto 9th. Those fighting to be the best of the worst in the Bottom Place Finals as well as those scrappy mid-table folks who were competing in the Middle Phase Finals. All of those teams would be finishing up their tournament after this event whereas those in the Champions Phase Finals would need one more round to decide their finishing spots in this years tournament.

Champions Phase Final – Round 2 (Semi-Finals)

The aftermath of these semi-final match ups sent shock waves through the MMATycoon community as some of the biggest names in the game faltered when it came down to the crunch.  Let's get straight into the action to see what transpired.

Those dastardly dank and rotten fellows from Naughtly Crew 1 had managed to ride their glorious steed “Pure Luck” straight into the semi-finals but were now facing the might of last years runners up The Stepdads in a rematch from their group stage of which Naughtly Crew were the surprise victors. With a campaign built on utter mediocrity there were few who believed that NC1 could triumph once again and most would have agreed that The Stepdads were the favourites.

Coming in off the back of his first win of the tournament, Naughtly Crew's Clint River faced The Stepdads Ricky Greene at 135lbs and though performing slightly better then in their first meeting, River still succumbed to a submission finish this time in round two rather than the first. With a quick and easy four point lead, The Stepdads team captain Shinji Tomoguchi marched into the cage ready to face Naughtly Crew's leader Jake Keane. Their last meeting was a close one with Tomoguchi only just outpointing Keane in a split decision win. It was said before this round that Tomoguchi might need a finish to avoid a repeat of the their overall team result last time round and boy those were some wise words. Tomoguchi did do better this time around getting the unanimous decision win but he was still unable to finish Keane and only picked up the two points. Midway through the meeting and The Stepdads were up 6 points to 0 but that was no where near enough to take the foot off the gas. The middleweights were up next with The Stepdads Maximus DeMarcus Meridius taking on NC1's Reggie Booker. In their last meeting, Booker defeated Meridius by KO in the third but was coming into this one off of a KO loss to FinnFighters Oke Swahn himself. Meridius on the other hand had just ended the undefeated streak of Convicted star Haitain Ginger so there was a sense of optimism from his fans as he entered the cage. Optimism turned into dismay as Booker picked up another KO this time with only two seconds of the first round to go. With the win, Booker brought his team back into contention at 6-5 meaning, once again, it would come down to the heavyweights to decide. Naughtly Crew's Kevin Mamar, a 4-1 monster and alleged steroid cheat would be facing The Stepdads Bruce Hood who's recent form had been a little sketchy compared to the start of the tournament. Mamar was the victor in their first meeting and this time around, he looked even better. Landing a couple of stiff jabs he wasted no time in following up with a take down and from there Hood was like a turtle on his back and after some viscous ground and pound the referee had no choice but to step in just before the three minute mark.

An unbelievable result and a near identical repeat of their last meeting. The Stepdads taking the early lead but Naughtly Crew coming back with a couple of massive wins to steal the match up 10 points to 6. Heartbreak for The Stepdads who would have been aiming to go one better than their silver medal last year but now find themselves able to pick up only a bronze at best. Thoroughly undeserved result for Naughtly Crew 1 who now find themselves in the grand final of this prestigious tournament and have now single handedly cut interest in that by around 75%.

Fighting for the last remaining spot in the finals were last years champions YABAI and AWC newcomers Keyboard Warriors. These two had also met in the group stages where Keyboard Warriors had upset the odds by getting one over the reigning champs. A much closer affair expected in this semi-final though with YABAI still slightly favoured to get their revenge for their first meeting.

As always, it was the little people of the MMA world up first, the 135lbers. Team captains Akio Kurosaki (Keyboard Warriors) and Jay Reepo (YABAI) were to square off for the second time since Reepo's unanimous decision win back in round one. Kurosaki hadn't done badly up since then with a 3-2 record but Reepo was coming in hot with an undefeated winning streak of 5-0. When I say hot, I meant simply that Reepo hadn't lost a fight but in terms of performance, well let's just say when he gets in the cage the crowd get up to grab a beer or two. No change there as this fight was as boring as watching cheese being made but for those that did stick around, they would have witnessed an upset decision as Kurosaki did marginally more than than Reepo to end his undefeated streak and draw first blood for his Keyboard Warriors team. Basically the same scenario at 155lbs as Keyboard Warrior middling Aung Siang took on the undefeated submission maestro Bishop Bonesteel for YABAI. Sporting some ludicrous looking tan lines over his shoulder, it has become apparent that Siang takes his fake belt pretty much everywhere he goes, including this fight. The crowd were incredibly confused as he held aloft his shiny gold before the fight started and even more so when a disgruntled Alfred Winterbottom marched into the cage and snatched it from his hands. The fight finally got underway but it wasn't long before the boos started up again. Bonesteel throwing out a shot every once in a blue moon whilst Siang relentlessly dived for take downs, head down, arms outstretched. Some successful, some not. On this occasion Bonesteel wasn't able to find a way to finish Siang as he did in their first meeting and instead fell to an upset split decision loss after another excruciatingly dull bout. 4-0 to the Keyboard Warriors and the balance of power now firmly in their favour. With two of YABAI's most consistent fighters down, it was left to two of their lesser performing members to try and turn it around. A now irate and restless crowd were practically frothing at the mouth in anger as undefeated middleweight Bofur Widenose (Keyboard Warriors) proceeded to lay on YABAI's Omer Demirci for fifteen minutes straight and earn another two point unanimous decision for his alliance and giving them the upset overall win. The heavyweight bout still needed to be fought however and out came YABAI's 3-2 Huber Schlesien. He faced some long odds indeed against Keyboard Warriors undefeated border jumper Felix Suarez and that was more than apparent as he was caught once again by a first round submission. Finally a lukewarm reaction from the crowd to end this dull snoozefest of an event.

Once again the Keyboard Warriors had defeated the reigning champions YABAI only this time it meant a place in the final. They now prepare to face Naughtly Crew 1 and attempt the clean sweep of all three Naughtly Crew teams. For YABAI, the results will have been devastating no doubt but there is no time to sit around moping. Third place is still up for grabs and they will be facing a rematch from last years final against The Stepdads. Even though it isn't for the gold, it is still a VERY interesting match up and in all honestly, far more exciting than the final itself.

Now onto the two match ups that would decide who gets to fight for a fifth place finish.

First up we had yet another rematch from the group stages this time between the FinnFighters and Convicted Inc. Last time these good folks met, the Finns absolutely crushed the impotent Convicted schlubs and after suffering a surprise defeat in the last round, they were highly expected to pile on once again.

A real shocker to open the match up at 135lbs as Convicted Inc's Nevez Amadaus managed to overturn the results of their first meeting by beating FinnFighters CG Mannheim with a second round KO. These two seem to have traded form recently as the loss marks Mannheim's second in a row while increasing Amadaus' win streak to three. The FinnFighters ever dependable team captain Rokken Roll was up next and he made sure to get his team back into the mix with a solid unanimous decision win over Convicted's Rico Axelrod. The decision win was his fifth out of six victories and also meant that he now remains only one of two undefeated fighters left in the tournament. A dejected and slumped over looking Haitain Ginger was up next into the cage for Convicted and clearly the disappearance of their strange and mysterious cult leader was weighing heavy. Ginger's own manager didn't seem to be particularly interested in the bout and instead was seen trying to barter with the hotdog vendor into accepting his strange foreign currency. His opponent, FinnFighters Oke Swahn, looked to be incredibly focussed on the task and hand and eager to repay Ginger for his first round submission loss back in round three of the tournament. The bell rang and it was clear Ginger was going to struggle in getting the fight to the floor. As a result the bout was fought almost entirely on the feet and though Ginger faired far better then you might expect against the wonderful boxing skills of Swahn, he was always a step behind and the judges rewarded the volume and aggression of the Finnish fighter with a unanimous verdict. The win evened the score to 4-4 meaning that all would be decided with the final heavyweight bout. FinnFighter's Einar Kyrvansyyla not coming into the fight with the best of form having lost his most recent two but then opponent Genghis Kahn had not exactly showed any signs of consistency with an up and down 2-3 record either. Kyrvansyyla the victor in their first bout and although this one was a lot closer than before, Kahn's insistence at blocking punches with his face meant that by round three, his face was a bloody mess and with less than a minute gone in the third, the doctor finally called a stop to proceedings. A three point win for Einar Kyrvansyyla and a 7-4 victory for FinnFighters overall.

Convicted Inc fall for the second time this tournament to the hallowed guardians of Santa Claus although this time things were much closer then before. If Convicted had any capacity to feel at all in their now firmly undead bodies, they would no doubt feel shame and disappointment to be fighting for only seventh place overall but as very little signs of life have been spotted from their camp lately, they're likely to be just dribbling and staring into their screens right now. A good win for the FinnFighters but again, you have to feel they too will be disappointed not to be fighting for more than only 5th in their final bout.

The remaining two alliances scrapping it out for a chance at fifth place were tournament newcomers Syndicate and Naughtly Crew 2. Both teams were soundly thrashed in the first round of this champions phase and would be hoping to rebound quickly with a win here.

At 135lbs, Syndicates previously undefeated Dreynos Elvul made sure he got back to winning ways as quick as possible with a first round submission win over NC2's Norman Pike. The win marked his fourth by submission in the tournament and put him second only behind Keyboard Warrior's Felix Suarez. At lightweight, Syndicate team captain Slash Shredder continued the momentum with a rare yet decisive second round TKO over the hapless Christian Caliman to put the score at 9-0. Caliman still yet without a win but clearly traumatised by the abusive relationship with his first manager. It was make or break for Naughtly Crew 2 here and next up was their absentee team captain Anders Thorsen and he needed at least a second round finish just to finish even. He was taking on Syndicate's Al Hoffa but turning up late to the event due to “a family emergency” didn't exactly illicit the greatest of confidence in him from his teammates and especially not when reeking of alcohol and cheap perfume. Thorsen looked sluggish and it showed in his performance. He was able to take Hoffa down at will but completely unable to do much with him except for some decent intervals of ground and pound whilst avoiding Hoffa's submission attempts. After fifteen minutes, Thorsen was declared the winner by unanimous decision. He had won the battle but his team had lost the war. Backstage, a furious Dick Glover could be seen with his manager Alfred Winterbottom whispering into his ear that it should have been him who was captain and that the team would never have lost if that was so. The pep talk clearly worked as Glover was soon back in the dressing room after needing only a couple of minutes to take out Syndicate's heavyweight striker Sono Tiger by TKO. A five point win for Naughtly Crew ended the score at 9 points to 7 in Syndicates favour and marked their second loss in a row.

Syndicate back in the win column but with such a narrow victory it's unknown just how much confidence they will gain from this performance as they go on to face FinnFighters for fifth place. This will be the first meeting between these two alliances and some very interesting bouts will be found. For Naughtly Crew 2 they now move on to face bitter rival Convicted Inc of whom they have a score to settle from the group stages.

Middle Phase Finals – Round Two of Two

Fighting for 9th & 10th Place overall

Moving into the Middle Phase Finals we had the unlikely pairing of Naughtly Crew 3 and Team Panda and quite frankly, neither team were expected to make it this far. Naughtly Crew 3 were practically filled with autobots and Team Panda were, well, Team Panda.

It was a rare site indeed to see Naughtly Crew 3 team captain Stuart Burrows inside the cage as he had sat by the wayside on the last two occasions due to forfeits. The extra rest and training time had obviously been well spent as he made easy work of Team Panda captain Napoleon Panda. Panda was a little too desperate to get the fight on the ground and Burrows punished him for it in the clinch finally ending things midway through the third round. Team Panda retook the lead after the 155lbs bout however when Jacques Turcotte was able to weather the submission storm of Ultimate Warrior in round one and come back with a TKO of his own forty-six seconds into round two. 4-3 to Team Panda at the midway point and this match up was really starting to heat up. No surprises at middleweight as Team Panda's as yet winless Otto Graff was once more, and for the last time, soundly defeated this time by NC3's Tran Quaach by first round KO. This meant that it would all be down to the heavyweights to decide the result and there was an air of confidence as their man Jacko Dawson took to the cage to face Naughtly Crew's winless Uncle Abner. Dawson, though not having the greatest record at 3-2 (1 of which being a forfeit win) he was at least incredible dangerous during his victories with both coming by way of first round KO. This is exactly what he would need to steal the victory for his team and against Abner who had only ever lost by first round finish so far in his five fight tournament campaign, most expected Dawson to get the job done. It wasn't to be as Round one passed with Abner likely ahead on the scored card. A possible technical draw faded away too as the second round passed by much the same as the first. Dawson was able to make something of a comeback in the third however but he still could not find a way to finish the surprisingly motivated Abner. In the end, the judges rightly awarded Abner his first win of the tournament and Team Panda had squandered their chance of winning the Middle Phase Finals. Naughtly Crew win 10 points to 4.

A very decent run by both teams to reach this point but it will be Naughtly Crew 3 who leave with the biggest smiles as they pick up their second team win in a row to claim the Middle Phase Finals. Commiserations to Team Panda who did superbly to avoid their predicted finish of last place.

Fighting for 11th & 12th Place overall

Moving on to the match that would decide 11th & 12th place, we had Limitless taking on ACME 1.

At 135lbs, Limitless' Paolo Del Geno was robbed of an opportunity to shine in his last match up as ACME 1's Devin Russell had long since abandoned the fighter lifestyle to start up a dog grooming service in Bermuda. Still, we have heard that Del Geno plans to remain in MMA for the foreseeable future and we are sure that this young man will have a bright future. Not the greatest start for ACME as they begin 5-0 down but they begin to make a comeback as 155lber Torn Brot was able to outpoint Trey Limitless for the unanimous decision victory. The result was sealed at middleweight however as Limitless' Heinrich Von Slackenfuchs made hamburger of ACME's Gretchen Alexander's face with some nasty ground and pound and forcing the doctor to stop the fight close to the end of round two. The four point victory ensured that Limitless could not be caught and so the pressure was off of their winless team captain Slim Towney as he prepared to face the dangerous 3-2 Peter Kowalski of ACME. This seemed to make the world of difference as Towney shocked and delighted the crowd when he finished Kowalski by guillotine in a tournament record five seconds. A superb way to end his otherwise troubling tournament campaign and a great finish for his alliance Limitless at the end.

They started well but trailed off mid way through the group stages, Limitless end their first AWC tournament in 11th place which will be a good marker for improvement in potential future tournaments. As for ACME 1, they did better then expected by were severely hampered by their gutless rage quitting team captain Devin Russell (managed by Saklain Javid)

Bottom Phase Final – Round Two of Two

Fighting for 13th & 14th place

Lastly we had the battle for “best of the worst” and the two teams that would be competing for the Bottom Phase Finals. Legion of Doom were quite the shock participants in this one and they would be taking on the not so shocking participants ACME 2

A bit of a lopsided victory at 135lbs got things started as LOD's Solomon Grundy battered ACME's Glenn Welch from pillow to post for fifteen minutes. Welch made every effort to get the fight to the ground and did manage it a few times during rounds one and two but by the third, he was completely spent and it was just small wonder that Grundy wasn't able to finish him for a more decisive win. Moving into the 155lbs division, another first round victory for ACME 2's best performing member Brett Keane this time over a very tough Bob Probert for Legion of Doom. Probert was coming in off of a three fight winning streak making the result all the more impressive for Keane who himself ends the tournament on his own three fight winning streak. At middleweight, it was the turn of the team captains and Legion of Doom's John Rackham squared off against ACME 2's Mun So. So looked indifferent as he stood in the cage whereas Rackham looked intense and determined to finish on a high note after coming into this on a three fight skid. The bout started and Rackham wasted no time in taking the fight to the floor where he soon forced the referee to stop the bout following some dangerous looking ground and pound. At this point, the result was a forgone conclusion as the heavyweight bout was cancelled due to forfeit. ACME 2's Fidel De Luna AWOL for many rounds now meant that Legion of Doom's 2-2 Richard Anderson was gifted the maximum five point victory without having to step into the cage, a result we know that Anderson would have far preferred to have earned with his own hands.

So there we have it folks. Legion of Doom finish in 13th place and as the “best of the worst” Bottom Phase Final champions. Not exactly their greatest achievement and far below their predicted finish at the start of this tournament but we certainly admire their determination to see out the tournament without complaint. The same praise should be given to ACME 2 also who, aside from one manager, grinded through the tournament in the face of overwhelming odds without ever complaining once. True competitors both and for that, I commend them.

See you at the finals folks!

Actually that was really weird fight.

I started to think that what if Wimp has trained kicks? My original plan was to use hes style and go pure counter and high damage. But i changed it because it wouldnt have worked against kicks, that Oke wouldnt be able to counter. so i decided to use somewhere between sliders and it just didnt work. I didnt never thought that he would miss that much, but its maybe because he had quite high damage and was still too agressive against pure counter guy. Even tho Oke was more towards counter than agro.

Also some fighters look like they doesent have evolved at all. We need to understand that some managers might have focused on secondaries more than primaries. Oke has been sparring a lot wrestling and hes striking skills wont have evolved at all.

Now with new bjj purle belt i believe that Oke is best fighter at 185 and one of few fighters that might have some career after this tournament.

Kevin Mamar is also looking good, I think he could have a career afterwards and is one of the few fighters Im releasing instead of retiring in the next few days

THE FINALS - PREVIEW

Welcome good folk to the 2021 Alliance World Championship grand finals! Just like last year, it's been a long and arduous few months to get to where we are now but made it we have and now we are on the cusp of crowning ourselves some new champs.

If I'm being honest, I will admit that I had suffered a real lack of motivation to get into this final preview and that is in no small part down to all the best and most interesting teams having been eliminated already. Last years champions YABAI? Gone! Last years runners up The Stepdads? GONE! Even the damn third place FinnFighters had somehow managed to mess up an A+ qualifying run only to crap the bed when it mattered most. All of last years big players are now completely out of the running for the title and what we've been left with just does not wet the appetite at all. The only way I could describe it is as a collection of mundane autobots taking on a bunch of cheesy sub spamming snooze fighters. Bitter much? Oh absolutely! It should have been me. Oh well, it is what it is I suppose and I guess I will just have to power through and give these finals the super half-arsed effort that it deserves. On to the fights!

A slightly different format to last year in that we finish the tournament with all fifteen teams finishing in their rightfully earned places. Places fifteen down to ninth have already been decided and this final round is all about place eighth up to first. In the interest of at least trying to make this entertaining, I will start from at the bottom first (just like Doc does. Boom)

Fighting for 7th & 8th place

NAUGHTLY CREW 2 vs. CONVICTED INC

This will be a rematch from their Group C clash in which Convicted Inc got one over on the admittedly overconfident Naughtly Crew 2 team. At this point of the tournament however, Naughtly Crew 2 have little to no confidence left so won't be able to make that mistake again. Saying that, the once mighty and feared Convicted Inc would probably be feeling similarly if it wasn't for the fact that they probably don't feel at all these days. An incredibly underwhelming run from them with not even a final win here today able to do much for their damaged and battered reputations.

Predictions:

Kicking off the meeting we have Convicted Inc's Nevez Amadaus taking on Naughtly Crew's Norman Pike at 135lbs. The last time these two met, Amadaus got the unanimous decision win and since then has improved far more than Pike (who rumour has it, hasn't changed his clothes since that loss many rounds ago) He is coming into the fight on a three fight winning streak whereas Pike is coming in the other way around. Pike still has that punchers chance but that is about all he does have. The bookies will see Amadaus as a fairly heavy favourite here.

At 155lbs we have Convicted's Rico Axelrod taking on Naughtly Crew's Christian Caliman and this will be the very last opportunity for the biggest liability on Naughtly Crew's team to get a win. With literally every other member of their three teams having picked up at least one win, the pressure will be on for Caliman and his multi-talented manager Kishion “Biro Camara” Matthews. It's not going to be easy though as Axelrod has managed at least a middling 3-3 record up to this point which puts to shame Caliman's atrocious 0-6 run. Another bout that looks as though it's going Convicted's way but then with the added stipulation that if he doesn't win, he will be outcast from the prestigious Naughtly Crew brand, Caliman's motivation is going to be through the roof.

On to the middleweights where both team captains will be represented. For Naughtly Crew we have 3-3 Anders Thorsen and for Convicted Inc, former child star Haitian Ginger who reaches this point with a 4-2 record. Last time these two met, Ginger was able to catch Thorsen in a second round submission but since then has turned his attention more towards the striking aspect of the game which has been an absolutely disastrous move and reflected in his rapid loss of form. This tactical blunder also correlates with his managers own declining stock in the game as well as a spate of Church arson attacks in his native Norway. Thorsen remains an unashamed ground and pound monster and there's little chance of him changing up his tactics for this one. It's almost guaranteed to be fought and won on the ground and the only question is whether he can avoid Ginger's submission attacks this time around or not. The bookies seem to be going with NOT.

On to the heavyweight bout of which many are suggesting is the real finals of the tournament. Convicted Inc's 2-4 Genghis Kahn takes on 4-2 Dick Glover in a rematch of their group stage bout in which Khan humiliated Glover with a first round TKO victory. At the time, it was heavily rumoured that Khan was under the spell of a mysterious sun touched necromancer who was weaving his dark magic over the unliving Convicted members and the only reason he was able to pull off such an upset. With this influence now long since gone, the peoples champion Dick Glover will be out for his revenge and ready to show the rest of his team just how to get things done on the big stage.

Despite their abandonment by revered sun cult leader after their failure to get anywhere of note in this tournament, Convicted Inc still looks to be the heavy favourites against a bunch of battered and bruised Naughtly Crew 2 sparbots. With two of the four fights practically guaranteed wins for them, it's unlikely that even they can mess this one up. Expect Convicted to get the 7th place finish winning three of the four fights here.

Fighting for 5th & 6th Place

FinnFighters vs. Syndicate.

Not a bad run at all for AWC first timers Syndicate who find themselves fighting for a respectable fifth place finish against the veteran OG team from the north, FinnFighters. FinnFighters themselves might not be so pleased with the occasion however as this is undoubtedly a step back from their third place finish last year. This is going to be an interesting match up seeing as how the two teams haven't met during the tournament so far and there is sure to be some big fights in amongst them. Let's take a look at who we think will be winning them.

Predictions:

A solid little scrap at flyweight to kick things off as Syndicate MVP Dreynos Elvul takes on FinnFighters CG Mannheim. Elvul reaches this point with a 5-1 record and currently tops the 135lbs division individual fighter points leader board. He also has an impressive 83% submission finish rate in his victories meaning that he is to be respected on the ground. During the group stages, Mannheim was one of the Finns most consistent assets but since then has fallen to two straight KO losses in a row leaving him with a 4-2 record. Far less chance of that happening in this fight though both fighters do have a similar amount of skill on the feet and could try to mix it up a bit there first. Overall though, these two are much more comfortable on the ground and that is likely to be where the fight ends up in which case you would have to give the edge to Dreynos Elvul.

A massive fight for FinnFighters team captain Rokken Roll as he aims to finish his AWC campaign with an undefeated record. He stands a good chance of doing so too as he faces Syndicate's own team captain Slash Shredder who at 2-4 hasn't had the best of runs. The biggest compliment you could give him is that he has at least kept the losses down to decisions but this could play straight into Roll's strength as five of his six victories have been awarded by the judges. On paper, Shredder has the abilities to push Roll but when taking into account form as well, you'd have to consider him a heavy underdog

At 185lbs the winds of fortune blow favourable for the FinnFighters as their heavy handed 5-1 striker Oke Swahn turns out against 2-4 submission wrestler Al Hoffa. Swahn is coming into the bout on a four fight winning streak and just keeps looking better and better as time goes on. Already starting with some wonderful boxing skills, throughout the tournament he has developed a superb submission wrestling base to compliment his striking and that is exactly what he will need against the exceptional wrestling of Hoffa. Obviously if the fight hits the floor, things become a lot more even but with his tactical training and the improvements made in the gym, Swahn will have a much bigger say about whether that happens or not.

On the the heavyweight feature now and whatever way you slice this, it's going to be a fun one. FinnFighters Einar Kyrvansyyla, back to winning ways after a little dip in form midway through the tournament, taking on Syndicates Sono Tiger who is coming in after suffering two first round finish losses in a row. Not a great confidence builder for him but at least he will likely get to end this thing doing what he loves best and that is throwing heavy leather. Overall, Tiger looks like he might benefit from staying at range but that is definitely not Kyrvansyyla's game and he will be looking to use his superior wrestling to clinch up and grind him into pieces. The bookies have this one down as a win for the Finns but as with all heavyweight match ups, it could very easily change at the drop of a hat.

The FinnFighters are expected to put to bed the newcomers Syndicate here due to their veteran expertise and experience and finish up this tournament in a respectable fifth place. With more of these match ups looking favourable towards them, it would be a big surprise to see Syndicate somehow pull this off. Still, stranger things have happened and FinnFighters have lost before when they were heavy favourites. Overall though, expect the FinnFighters to win three of these four fights.

For 3rd & 4th Place

YABAI vs. The Stepdads

Now we start getting to the real meat of the dish! Last years final is somehow this years third place match up and despite the lack of fanfare surrounding such a finishing place, bragging rights and pride are going to make this almost as interesting as the final (and as the final isn't interesting at all, you could say that this is the match up to watch)

Last year, a rampaging Stepdads team were surprisingly beaten at the last minute by the slow building YABAI grifters and they will be looking to get their revenge over a practically identical YABAI team.

Predictions:

At 135lbs, YABAI team captain Jay Reepo is taking on The Stepdads Ricky Greene and this one looks set to be a real chess match on the ground (aka beer break) Despite having the better record at 5-1, Reepo is currently several places below Greene in the individual fighter points table and that is largely due to Greene's impressive record of four submission wins out of four victories compared to Reepo's four decision wins out of five wins. Green has been rumoured to have been training a lot of basketball during this tournament which has no doubt contributed to his fast twitch submission game. Reepo on the other hand just looks angry and stressed all the time due to the cut-throat environment of his day job and that is probably why is he is constantly attempting to strangle his opponents from the guard position. A very tough one to predict but most would agree that Reepo is the slight favourite.

On to 155lbs where The Stepdads team captain Shinji Tomoguchi takes on his toughest opponent yet, YABAI's 5-1 Bishop Bonesteel. Bonesteel was having an absolutely flawless tournament until the semi-finals where he suffered his first professional loss in a shock split decision to Keyboard Warriors Aung Siang. Still, he remains firmly at the top of the IFP lightweight table and looks set to stay that way no matter the result here. Both fighters have made big efforts to improve in areas they are lacking which makes this match up all the more interesting. Bonesteel looks a little further ahead overall however and he'll likely be the favourite coming in. Tomoguchi remains as tough and inconsistent as he's ever been though and I believe both fighters will remain unfinished during this tournament after this one.

Another competitive looking fight at middleweight as YABAI's Turkish half-goth Omer Demirci takes on The Stepdads Maximus DeMarcus Meridius. Both fighters with identical 4-2 records and both will be coming in off losses from the semi-finals. Interestingly for this match up, both also have a 100% finish rate in their four victories too. Demirci has the slightly better form of the two fighters and also a higher pedigree of BJJ with his Brown belt trumping Meridius' purple. The bookies will likely see him as the slight favourite.

Lastly at heavyweight we get to see The Stepdads brawler Bruce Hood taking on YABAI's submission wrestler Huber Schlesien and this one could very easily end up going either way. Bruce Hood started off well in the tournament but has struggled a little as time has gone on. Schlesien started off poorly before managing to put together a little three fight winning streak. Both are coming in off of losses from the semi-final. On paper this looks like more of a grappler versus striker match up but Schlesien has some respectable hands and might fancy his chances against the suspect chin of Hood. His safest route would definitely be on the ground however and it's likely we see it end up there at some point unless Hood is able to catch Schlesien with a stray bomb. The bookies will have Schlesien as the slight favourite going in.

Serious business here for third place but once again, it looks as though YABAI have the better chance of walking away as winners. Some very interesting fights to look forward to but overall YABAI will be at least slight favourites in all of them. Could a 4-0 drubbing be on the cards for The Stepdads here or will they finally get some revenge for last years loss? I can't wait to find out.

For 1st & 2nd Place aka ZE GRANDE FINALE

KEYBOARD WARRIORS vs. NAUGHTY CREW 1

And now we come to the grand finale. The one we've all been waiting for. The match up that will decide the best alliance of 2021 and the theme for this year is simple; Cheese. The Keyboard Warriors have it and they want to nothing more than to shove it straight down Naughtly Crew's throats. The big question here is whether Naughtly Crew refuse it like a stubborn toddler being fed  vegetables or whether they roll over and open up wide for some huge loads of the stinky stuff.

This is going to be the first time these two teams are meeting though Keyboard Warriors have already cut through Naughtly Crew's other two teams like a hot knife through Brie. They would love to get themselves the Naughtly Crew clean sweep and take home the gold at the same time but Naughtly Crew 1, like common cockroaches, have proven incredibly tough to squash. Let's have a look at the final four match ups.

Predictions:

First up, at 135lbs, we have Keyboard Warriors team captain Akio Kurosaki taking on Naughtly Crew's weakest link, Clint River. Kurosaki has been in decent shape of late despite his manager Louie DePalma spending all of his time working towards Island domination (Somebody should really tell him that the Island sucks) River on the other hand has managed only one single win during this tournament and comes into the fight with an abysmal record of 1-5. River looks to be the more well rounded of the two but at this stage of the game, it really wouldn't matter if he was allowed to bring a baseball bat into the cage with him. Kurosaki is taking him down and giving him the full Gorgonzola.

At 155lbs, notorious belt thief Aung Siang is back in action and he will be taking on Naughtly Crew head honcho Jake Keane. There's not much to say about this one other than I would eat an entire bucket of Casu Marzu if Jake Keane actually managed to pull this off. Like Clint River before him, Keane has managed only one win in the tournament and you'd have to go all the way back to the first round to see that too. He is coming in on a five fight losing streak and 4-2 Siang will be licking his lips at the tasty treat being dangled in front of him. The bookies will have Keane as a major underdog so you can chalk this up as another win for the diary farm.

On to the middleweights where the match up start to get a little bit more competitive. Naughtly Crew's Reggie Booker (4-2) has been able to pick up some key victories just at the right times during this tournament and has played a large part in helping his team get to where there are right now. However, he faces the daunting task of undefeated master cheese maker Bofur Widenose who has so far managed to finish all but one of his seven opponents by first or second round submission. Booker has been working diligently on his grappling throughout the tournament and has reached a similar level in BJJ to Widenose though when it comes to wrestling, the gulf in their abilities becomes much clearer. Booker is far more comfortable on his feet and has a decent punch on him but Widenose has managed to avoid getting himself involved in any kind of stand up exchange thus far and has generally found it fairly easy to get the fight where he wants it. All in all, a tough fight for both competitors but much more so for Booker who will be the obvious underdog. We managed to reach his cantankerous manager Andy Down who had just recently reached the lofty heights of #1 in the game. As eloquent as ever, he had this to say when pressed “The Cinderella story ain't happening. The cheesers are cheesing their dicks off. I hope their dicks smell like cheese” Wise words Andy. Wise words.

Lastly we get to the main feature. The anticipated heavyweight showdown between Naughtly Crew's Kevin Mamar and Keyboard Warriors undefeated border jumper Felix Suarez. It's no secret that Suarez and his manager Jui-Jitsu Buoy have been behind the campaign of hate issued against beloved tournament organiser Alfred Winterbottom but in the best interests of the tournament and it's ending, Mr.Winterbottom has decided to forgive Suarez and let bygones be bygones. It's just as well too as it has only recently come to the tournaments attention that Suarez is wanted for several non violent crimes in his native Not America and that would have surely landed him a deportation order if reported. Anyway, both of these fighters are coming in on big time hot streaks. Suarez obviously 6-0 seeing as he is undefeated and Mamar 5-1 having not lost since his opening round fight against Syndicate's Sono Tiger. Both are predominately ground fighters but Mamar has been progressing at an alarming rate of which many have attributed to his brazen steroid use. With no official governing body to oversee the tournament, Mamar can often be seen in the locker room with his shady manager Doctor John Zoidberg administering Brazil's finest pharmaceutical grade Vitamin S into his buttocks whilst muttering something along the lines of “Seu Ruivinho de merda” and “To vazando dessa caralha seu fodido”. On paper things actually look as though Suarez is going to be the underdog. His useless stand up skills are going to be no match for Mamar if the fight doesn't instantly hit the ground and even there, Mamar's dangerous ground and pound has been responsible for four of his five victories. Still, it's difficult to overlook a man who has finished all but one of his six opponents by first round submission and of whom currently sits comfortable at the top of the Individual Fighter Points table in his weight class. All in all, this will be a great way to finish the event and without question one of the biggest fights of the tournament.

So having looked at the match ups presented, it's fairly safe to say that Naughtly Crew 1 are going to be needing a good few bottles of wine to wash down all the cheese they'll be feasting on here. Keyboard Warriors are massive favourites in the lighter weight fights and then have two undefeated stars involved in the most competitive looking ones. It would be an absolute miracle if Naughtly Crew could pull this one off and I know that's been said before but I REALLY mean it this time. Keyboard Warriors win this championship match up three fights to one.

So there we have it folks. The predictions are in so make sure to go and place your bets at Iron Man Betting for the final time. See you all after the event!

Thank you for keeping this secret Mr. Winterbottom. If word got out, like on the internet on a forum post or something, it would surely be bad news for Felix and his cousin Amanda.

A little preview of what's to come for Kevin Mamar:

Suarez is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Kaminski is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Kaminski flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Suarez anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Kaminski and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Suarez slips an arm under Kaminski chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Suarez has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Suarez is squeezing on Kaminski like an anaconda would it's prey. Kaminski fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Amanda Suarez!
Amanda Suarez made sure to give a little speech post fight, saying '#TeamBorder jumper motherfuckers! Felix is gonna tap that steroid using motherfucker and make it 7-0 in AWC. If you don't know who we are yet, you will. This is just the beginning!'.
