Immortals New York

Steel

Recommended Posts

It is now 4 days from fight night in the Gonzaitev camp as Anthony "Ace" Ventura enters the cage once again facing a top flight grappler, his 4th in his time at Immortals. "Mr. Kid" Nate Alldren is 9-1 in his MMA career with all but 1 of his wins coming by way of T(KO) but his only loss came in his last outing by way of T(KO), he is also a former champ and another tough test for the young buck of the Zaitev camp. Ramblin Red Stevenson here coming to you live just outside the Gonzaitev training facility located somewhere in New York, I am not allowed to reveal the location under penalty of death. I walk up to the door and knock three times on the front door before it creakily swings open as Mr Gonzaitev is standing there, a tumbler of vodka in hand as he gestures me inside as the sounds of kicks and punches being thrown can be heard echoing throughout the facility. As I approach the cage, Anthony is in the Cage sparring with the young prospect Alexander Krutov whose wrestling background and skill is almost on par with Alldren as well as being of a similar size and build.

Gonzaitev: 15 seconds Anthony! You got a visitor!

Anthony gives Gonzaitev a terse nod as he starts going on the attack throwing punches and kicks from every angle backing up Krutov on his heels making him dive for a double leg but as he does so he eats a nasty knee to the midsection that sends him to the mat.

Gonzaitev: Good work Anthony, Alexander, take a 15 minute break and get Freedman to give you an ice pack for your gut, that will leave a mark and your still recovering from your fight this past weekend.

Anthony leaves the cage and walks over to us, slipping out of his head gear and gloves.

Anthony: Hey Red, how is it going?

Red: Not too bad Anthony, your looking good in training, are you going to be ready for Alldren come Saturday?

Anthony: I am ready to go right now, Alldren is a very difficult fight to prepare for because his top game is extremely good and his base is hard to back once he gets on top. However, his stand up leaves much too be desired, as his last fight showed.

Red: Your talking about his fight against Nathan Speed on the Alexi super card?

Anthony: Speed managed to keep the fight standing and eat Alldren alive with his MT strikes and dirty boxing. I feel like my muay thai skills are crisper and better than Speed's so I have little doubt as to the result of the fight. It will still be a very difficult challenge for me especial since I recently lost to a highly decorated and skilled grappler, but that was below my natural weight class. I feel much better here at 205 and I will certainly make Alldren feel the fury of my fists and kicks.

Train derailed.

Former Immortals standout Vladimir van Kirkland went trough both personal and professional struggle lately... failing at what he always did best - chopping off heads. And oh boy, it got worse... after his last demoralising loss he went to asia for a muay thai bootcamp, but soon found himself hostaged by the philipino mafia, them trying to make quick money from his former glory.

But today the good news... Roger "Verbal" Kint, a friend of his former manager Mike Melton, contacted press and Immortals officials that he was, after tough negotiations with philipino mafia slave trader Umberts, able to get him back the the Big Apple - where he belongs... back to Spetnaz Gym... raping gym equipment already, again. Kint: "He will get the time he needs to get back on track... and we have to protect him a bit from his overzeal. But one thing is for sure - he WILL be back... and heads will roll... again!".

Media furthermore speculate that his return to the cage will take 6-7 weeks from now and that also no decision is made if he will return to lightweight or welterweight, but that there is a tendency towards 170lbs at least at this point.

Hong: Can I have a crack at him before he decides if he's going to switch to 170? I would love to go against an INY hall of famer.

INY 70 Kharmalov vs Bennett

Hard Knocks, New York

April 13 2013

170lb World Title Main Event

Kharmalov vs Bennett II

Rematch of an incredible 5 round war that took place just 3 months ago, that ended in a 5th round submission win for Kharmalov 8-2-1. Both Kharmalov and Bennett 14-5 have faced world class opposition, and both are rounded fighters, with fabulous ground games. The edge seems to be with Kharmalov, he is more durable, and comes on strong in the championship rounds when Bennett has been known to look vulnerable, having lost in the 5th round in two of his last 4 fights after starting strongly.

205lb Ventura vs Alldren

Former 185 champ Ventura starts the favorite over world class grappler Alldren who will need to display improved stand up if he is ‘hang’ with as notorious a striker as Anthony Ventura. Ventura has been beaten only once, and that was to Richards, and the Gonzaitev camp will be confident he wont make the same mistake twice. Alldren will look to expose Ventura’s ground game, but Ventura is coming for the KO.

185lb Roaig vs Fybra

Roaig and Fybra will both welcome facing a fellow striker and this will be a striking match by two of the best in the division. Roaig has been known to tire late on , he lost the Troid belt in the 5th so he will need to keep his focus throughout because Fybra has power, and has KO wins over some of the toughest guys in the world. A true ‘pick em’ fight.

155lb Butcher vs Young

Former AAFL 145 champ Young hopes to continue his comeback against Muay Thai banger Butcher 9-6 who is on 3 fight win streak. Young has the wrestling to cause Young problems and grind out the win, but he best be careful because Butcher can end fights, just ask Shane Wellman Jnr who has been KTFO twice!

265+lb Bradley vs Heisman

Great match up here with Williams’ clinch fighter Bradley 9-3 looking to get close to a title shot, but facing him is Heisman 4-1, a world class boxer with genuine KO power. Bradley has looked good, and Heisman will be in trouble if he gets mauled in the clinch. Could be fight of the night, and I doubt it will go to decision.

155lb Diaz vs Wellman Jnr

Two BJJ fighters looking to break their losing streaks here, though they have both been operating at a good level in the roster, though Wellman does only seems to struggle against heavy handed strikers. Diaz will want this on the ground and Wellman Jnr wont fear him there, though I expect SWJ to box him and take a decision.

135lb World Title

Sheldon vs McLaren

Sheldon won the title with the shock KO of the previously dominant Escobar, and this tough boxer makes his 1st defense in a rematch of a previous loss, against genuine number one contender Colt McLaren. You have to respect Sheldon, on winning the title he immediately called out McLaren, and this should be a close fight, like their first encounter. Sheldon is on a win streak, is strong, hits hard and is full confidence after demolishing the only man to have beaten McLaren. Both camps will be confident, McLaren has a lot of respect for Sheldon so expect a gruelling and brutal war between two young fighters with big futures.

185lb Okam vs Turner

Self hype machine Okam is looking to return to winning ways against former champ Turner 9-4 who is on a 4 fight losing streak. Okam is a boxer, fights out of the notorious Heisman camp and stands at 4-1 4 Kos. Okam has the power to stop Turner who looks faded even at 23, though if Okam has any weaknesses in the chin department Turner is the man to exploit them.

185lb Mullins vs Roofer

31 year old grappler Mullins 8-8 takes on young prospect Roofer 8-2. Roofer has to keep this standing where should have too much power, and expose Mullins’ questionable resolve when under pressure. Mullins will be a dangerous opponent for Roofer, but a test he will expect to pass.

135lb Kikovic vs Young

The 3rd and 4th ranked 135lb guys clash here with Kikovic the striker looking to keep this standing against the experienced Young who already has had 12 fights. For a card opener it’s a cracking contest, two well trained contenders from the highly respected Assasi and Gonzaitev camps.

155lb Smith vs Saunders

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joe Saunders!

Post fight comments

Joe "Diablo" Saunders: I knew I needed a big win over a name opponent if I was going to continue fighting in Immortals New York and Corey Smith was the perfect opponent for me to prove that I am still one of the best 155lbers in the organization and a tough fight for anyone in the division. I knew Smith was going to come out looking for a stand up war, which normally I would be more than happy to oblige but Corey has too much power in his hands to simply stand there and trade blows with so I had to fight smart and come up with a solid gameplan. I wasn't sure if I would be able to take Smith down so I was ready for anything, even I'm shocked that I was able to go 4 for 4 in takedowns and in the end that was most definitely the key to victory in this match.

Whats next? I'll leave that up to INY management but I'm sure they are thinking about a Vieri rematch. I don't know if I'll ever be ready for that beast but if that's what management thinks needs to happen then I'll go in there and give it everything I've got. If it were up to me I'd like to get in there and mix it up with "The Mauler" Glenn Wauler first.

Corey Smith: First of all I want to congratulate Joe Saunders for a great fight, he did what he had to do to pull out the win. I apologize to all my fans and the Immortals New York management however for my lackluster performance.

In an effort to not derail the event I concealed an injury that should have barred me from participating in the fight as scheduled. about two months back I was diagnosed as having a herniated disk and was not able to fully apply myself in training or for the fight itself. That was the reason that I was unable to stuff any of the takedown attempts. I was n pretty immense pain and was taking prescribed pain killers at the time of the fight. You can clearly see in the fight replay on that last takedown that I was in so much pain that I could barely continue which is what lead to the stoppage with only one second left in the fight.

The Immortals management has informed me that they are investigating the use of pain killers in the fight to see if it was a violation of their substance abuse policies. If they rule that it was a violation then I could be facing a month suspension for a first time offender. I apologize to the Immortals management for not disclosing this earlier. I also apologize to Joe Saunders for not being 100% coming to this fight and most importantly, I apologize to the fans who I feel I let down with this whole ordeal.

Lastly, I would like to let everyone know that I will be having back surgery to correct the issue and will be out for between 6-8 months for rehabilitation and recovery. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to address this issue. I will cooperate fully with the investigation concerning my activities and will fully disclose all relevant information concerning it.

Gaius Arabi spoke to the media about his fight against Skull Crash in the next few days:

I'm very relaxed coming into this fight. We had a quick camp but I feel like we did our best to adapt sparring and training to my opponent. We know he's coming to bang and we're ready for it. I have a lot of respect for the guy and I seriously have nothing bad to talk about him. I'm taking some time off after this fight to have a special training camp around the world. I'm staying some weeks at Thailand, then Germany and back to Brazil. After that I'm coming back here to fight. Expect my skills to improve after this period. I see you guys in a few days for the press conference.

Team Dovik's member Marcelo Dobzinski challenged Zayed Abdullah for a fight later on at Immortals. Dobzinski is a free agent and after a long period of training fought Diederik Carolus in a heavyweight fight at No Exit 141. After Abdullah's teammate Aadilou Ankutse talked trash about his friend Gaius Arabi and his team, Dobzinskis decided to deliver a message to another fighter from the Huntington's camp. Here's his thoughts:

I honestly don't know what happens that everyone on that camp loves to talk trash about other opponents. It's not even something that makes sense when the other fighter stays quiet and respectful. I have no problem with it, but when he disrespects our team and a great guy like Gaius... That's when some mouths need to be sewed up. I know he has a fight booked but after it happens, I don't care about his result. Win or lose, I'm flying to NY to fight him. I'll probably sign for just this fight or maybe another one, but I'm not backing up from this. I will enter that cage and I'll finish him. That's when his little speeches will probably end and everyone will say that I've sewn that mouth shut.

Luan Dovik, manager and head coach of Dovik Fight Club, talked about his fighters recent interviews:

We are very pleased with the results of that quick camp. We got the offer on short notice to fight Crash and Gaius accepted it right away. We were already talking about taking some time off to train in some other gyms around the world, but he decided that facing a guy the level and history of Skull Crash in this organization would be a great fight to motivate him and it would boost his morale with a win to make him improve even more with his next big camp. Marcelo actually surprised me with his speech. I never saw it coming but I support him 100%. We didn't like how they treated us, but it's okay to me. They can cheer that fluke win of Ankutse all the rest of their days but I'm sure that Arabi will defeat him when they rematch. That's not in our plans right now and time will come when it's necessary. Marcelo's training has been great and we're not looking into signing any long deals right now. He should probably do another fight in a few days and then train for this fight with Abdullah. After that there's another big training camp waiting for him and it will definitely be a while until he really gets to fight regularly in any org. We did not sign any contracts but It will be more consistent to talk about it when we arrive in New York.

Gaius Arabi: I actually didn't understand what that guy Humberto said about me... I know he's from that great and wonderful camp of garbage talkers. He seems to be even worse than Ankutse. I'd face him anytime anywhere but as I've said before and so did Dovik, I'm taking some time to focus after my fight against Crash. I'm gunning for a victory in that fight and I'm sure that if I perform at my best, I'll get my hand raised. He was never finished and has a big heart, but it's no problem to me. If Humberto ever wants a fight, I'm happy to challenge him to be my first opponent after my time off. If he accepts it, it's on.

Colt McLaren post fight press conference:

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/15/15b2.jpg

Reporter: "Colt, what went wrong out there for you?"

McLaren: "Dontae was the problem tonight, kid has improved loads, I underestimated his boxing and I trained for fights years down the road thinking I had enough skills now to get the job done."

Reporter: " Yeh his boxing looked great tonight, he caught you with a lot of shots."

McLaren: "He was awesome man, he hits hard anyway but he so goddam accurate, I couldnt get hell out of the way. I hung in there was as long as could."

Reporter: "Yiu looked hurt on a few occasions."

McLaren: "Like I said he hits hard, but I did my best, and tonight it wasnt enough, so hats off to Dontae, he is nice guy, and congratulations to his camp on a fine game plan. Im sure we will do this again sometime, thanks guys."

Thor Okam gingerly walks to the podium that is surrounded by a sea of reporters, a cast on his right hand.

"I'd like to thank you all for coming. I must say, Mr. Turner almost had me with his strategy tonight. Repeatedly, no matter what I tried, I couldn't keep him from head butting my hand. I couldn't have taken too many more of those, but luckily his face gave out just before my hand did. Sometimes even in a victory, it's hard to come out of the cage healthy. Thank you, that is all."

Thor climbs onto a stretcher that paramedics have standing by and is wheeled to an ambulance as an explosion of questions erupt from the reporters amid a fury of camera flashes.

Dontae Sheldon: Colt! It was so fun to play with you! I'm so glad we got to play with each other a lot longer than last time. 5 rounds instead of 3 rounds, whatever that means. I was told it was because have this here belt. It's like having a magical wand that let's me play longer! I never want to let this belt go! I'll be... Ball Pit Man, because I love to play in ball pits! Thanks for playing Colt, i hope to do it again soon!

Later backstage Dontae and his manager Fox were seen speaking in hushed tones. Dontae noticed the door was open, had a look of big surprise, then slammed the door shut.

An MMA Newsite reported earlier today that Ramirez fighter Aldous Huxley had been illegally approached by a rival fighting org.

Exactly what was discussed was not revealed but rumours claims that Huxley was offered a large sum of cash to terminate his deal with Immortals.

Huxley has not been available for an interview but his manager J Ramirez quickly moved to kill off the rumour.

- Huxley stays with Immortals said Ramirez.

- The Immortal management has been very fair to Huxley offering a new longterm deal even though he is on a loosing streak and we intend to honor that deal for sure. Huxley doesnt need this kind of disturbance, said an upset Ramirez.

- Huxley is 100% focused in making a return to the Immortal octagon sometime in May.

FN 46 Fontes vs Peitexeira

“Ladies and gentlemen, I’m Richie Ciapelli and I’m here tonight to preview FN 46 Fontes vs Petexeira with middleweight stand out Taco Bueno.”

“Ok, fight fans let go straight into it. Fontes is a 10-3 striker fighting out of Montreal, and this kid has 9 Kos. What’s interesting are his losses, twice to Irving Brown and once to Ravil Lebedev, when Lebedev was a real force under the watchful eye of the great Jon Boogie. He has avenged that loss to Lebedev and stands at 1-2 against Brown. You cannot ignore Fontes, he is a Muay Thai killer with wins using both his heavy hands and great kicks. Peitexeira is 13-9, a great boxer with heavy hands and he comes to bang, as 10 wins by KO testifies. He has some very good wins the INY having stopped both Heisman and Dobson, but his chin failed him in his biggest fight, against Chikatilo. For me, I question whether he can handle Fontes’ power, though I wouldn’t be surprised if both these guys hit the deck in this one. Taco, how you got this, and how do you see the super heavies going in 2013?”

Taco “Could go either way Richie, both can bang, and I can’t wait for this one. As for the division, well Brown is a beast and I’ve heard he is being lined up to take on the Torment LA champ and maybe Chika goes too. Be great seeing these two represent the INY in LA. Be some money at the Casino for these two, pounding the shit out of the LA boys. I see Chika takes on Bradley on May 4th, that’s gonna be a great fight, Bradley went from 1-2 in the TUF tournament and now the guy is 10-3. Gotta respect the faith his boss had in the guy. “

Richie “We also have Dobson re-matching Chazinski on this card.”

Taco “ Yeh, Chaz started out as a boxer, but these days he wants the takedown and looks for submissions and uses the ground and pound. Chaz is 8-6 though, I know he can bang but his chin isn’t great, so he has to get this to the ground fast, because Dobson has great hands and hits like a train. “

Richie “Dobson has this for me, I love how Chaz fights and it would be great to see the Jet camp pull off the upset, but Dobson looks a great prospect. You know we also have Soman taking on fellow KO artist Hotop in this division. This one should be a lot of fun, Soman is an exciting fighter and Hotop is happy to trade with anyone in this division.”

Taco “Soman is from a fast emerging camp, Jacobson knows his fighters, and I think he will test Hotop’s endurance. Soman has some good wins he is 6-3 5Kos and though Hotop hits hard, the guy is a bleeder. Soman will finish this inside 2 rounds.”

Richie “The co main event is a welterweight contest between Xu and Monroe. Xu is coming in off a win over Taylor, and Monroe has bounced back with two wins recently over McGuire and Taylor aswell.”

Taco “Monroe stopped Taylor, and I talked to Cruz and he said Monroe is a tough son of a bitch. Monroe has only lost to the very best in Cunha, Kharmalov, Bennett and Cruz, and I wonder if Xu has the durability to hang with Monroe. “

Richie “I’m not so sure Taco, Monroe like’s the clinch, but Xu looked great in the clinch against Taylor, and he has a more diverse attack that Monroe, so I think he can win a decision here. Xu has some good wins on his record, like Stenkov and Chikatilo, and he shouldn’t be underestimated.

Right let’s go to the middleweight division where we have the streaking Brandao taking on BJJ specialist Beretta 7-4 6 subs. Brandao looks like he has found his A game of late, having beaten Harmsworthy, Astronomer and Turner. Beretta has struggled against fellow grapplers but he has a win by submission over Roofer, so Brandao could be in trouble here?”

Taco “No chance Richie, Brandao beat Harmsworthy who has great BJJ, and the Blunts camp are known for awesome defensive grappling, and he wont panic if he gets taken down. I think Beretta is in real trouble here.”

Richie “I’m looking forward to the Suggs Oliva match up at 205, here we have two excellent Muay Thai strikers colliding, although both have shown unconvincing form of late.”

Taco “To be fair to Oliva, he has faced Ventura, Youngblood and myself. Ventura and Youngblood are world class strikers, former world champions, so he has no ‘bad’ losses here, and he does have a win over Winnfield, so you gotta respect that.”

Richie “Yes but Oliva has looked good in training, he doesn’t look ‘up for it’ and Suggs has had a great camp for this fight.”

Taco “He has a horrible loss to Paul Orndorf on his record though, and that’s enough for me, a guy who couldn’t cut it in the INY, so I think even an off form Oliva could win this.”

Richie “OK, we will see, should be a great fight, don’t forget Suggs has two wins over Hoplo Brute, so I’m with Suggs.

Right, at 145lbs we have Brown facing Urskilz.”

Taco “Urskilz for me, 4 fight win streak and he has already beaten this guy. Brown is a tough kid and can bang but I think Urskilz is a serious contender for Mac’s World crown.”

Richie “Now onto Jin vs McGuire, two really skilled welterweights. Jin needs that breakthrough win in the INY after dropping a decision and losing by KO in his two previous INY appearances. McGuire is 5-2 and his losses are to Whentworth and Monroe, so there is no shame there.”

Taco “Yeh I think the fact both these guys have faced Holmes, and Jin got stopped and McGuire won by decision tells me McGuire takes this. McGuire looks a good prospect but I hear Joe River isn’t convinced and he may be leaving the INY.”

Richie “At 135 we have Johnson taking on Parasca 5-3 who looks a good prospect and has only been beaten by top guys, including the former champ Escobar and current king Dontae Sheldon.”

Taco “Should be a fun fight, Johnson will take the fight to the ground, and I think Parasca will let him and then look to get the submission. He needs to be careful though and get business completed quickly because Johnson has some brutal ground and pound.”

Richie “Opening the card we have a 145lb match up between BJJ specialist Hawkins and boxer Chalmers. Chalmers lasted 9 seconds in his debut, so we don’t know too much about him, but he needs to keep this standing against journeyman Hawkins, who has been in with some tough guys.”

Taco “Hawkins will have too much for Chalmers, but I would be interested to see if the dude can bang or not, but for me this is Hawkins fight.”

Richie “Thanks Taco, great to see you looking so calm since the last time you were on the show.”

Taco “Yeh, everything is going great, I have my sights set on Tyler Richards, but I got the Schmuk next and I have to respect his ground game. Hopefully I will hit too hard for him, but we will see.”

Richie “Thor Okam and yourself haven’t been in the press lately.”

Taco “He needs a win over a good opponent, losing to Bowman was a set back for him, and beating Turner proved nothing as that kid cant take a shot. The loss to Rook told me all I needed to know about the kid.”

Richie “So how do you see Hagler doing against Okam?”

Taco “Hagler is a brave kid but he isn’t likely to challenge for the title in this organisation, but he could give Okam a good fight, but Hagler isn’t durable. Hopefully Okam gets the win and he can become a contender, because as much as I dislike the man, facing an asshole in a title fight will sell tickets, so that’s cool with me.”

Richie “OK fight fans that’s FN 46 Fontes vs Peitexeira this Wednesday, don’t miss it.”

Gaius Arabi open workouts interview:

Gaius Arabi:That bastard doesn't even know our team's name and actually call us with a name of a nutrition company? Can't say pretty much about his IQ status... If I were a light-heavyweight, then maybe I'd smash you there but since I'm not, I'd love to be at Marcelo's corner and help him defeat you. Anyway I'm not here to talk about it and I'm ready to talk about my upcoming fight.

I saw some little things from Crash at this open workouts that I'd normally expect. He throw a lot of kicks and that's an interesting game plan. I've trained all kinds of situations to this fight and I'm willing to take him deep with me. I'm giving everything there and I hope to fulfill my expectations. Skull Crash is a very durable guy, I honestly feel like he might have some adamantium chin, but that's nothing new to any of us here, right? Being in the situation I am today it's not a good one. I came here with a lot of hype, lost a fight to an undefeated guy, former champion and that was not a big problem considering where we were at that time. The next fight was really the one that I ended up surprised and after that, being 0-2 here definitely sucks. Specially because I'm getting a tougher opponent than my last fight and I definitely feel the pressure to deliver a great performance and win. I'm not 100% concerned with my record but I do care about it, and being 0-3 and 8-4 overall would not be something I'd like to see and have after fighting again here. It's finally time to win and I do believe that Crash is a great guy, but he has no right to beat me. No one does and even if they do beat me, I'll make sure that when we meet again I'll show it to them. Ankutse will see it when it's time for it, but April 20th will be the day I'll get redemption at this organization and the victim will be Skull Crash. I see you on Saturday.
