MMA TODAY

-------------------

Hello everyone; Pueblo Escobart here with another episode of MMA Today. In this edition we will talk to the winner of the SPFT-ICON lightweight tournament and current 155 lb. champ, James Miller. How's it going, James?

JM: It's going well, obviously. It's good to be here. Thanks for having me on.

PE: No problem. So, you're at the top of the food chain in the lightweight division. Was that a surprise to you, being so new to SPFT?

JM: Not a surprise, really. The division's not exactly stacked. There are some tough competitors, but I'm pretty tough, myself.

PE: What single factor do you think contributes the most to your success?

JM: I'd say, if I had to pick one thing, it's the work that goes on between fights. I study all the available footage of my opponents' previous fights, check out their gym. You know, really get to know what I'm up against. I don't like surprises.

PE: How does your opponents skill set affect your overall strategy?

JM: It depends. I'm not one to look for the takedown; if I'm fighting a real high level striker with no ground game, I might shoot one on him to score some points. But it's no secret I'm a headhunter. I look for the knockout.

PE: What does a typical week of training look like for you?

JM: Well, it's different if I have fight coming up. The week or so before a fight, I'll try to brush up on a lot of skills to keep them fresh and sharp. But if I'm a long way out from a fight, I mostly focus on improving my ground game and getting up to speed in that respect.

PE: You have an upcoming title fight with Kilafwa Tatlumahi. Have you taken any special preparation for this fight?

JM: I've been working on my conditioning; I average two to three circuit training sessions a week. Plus I've been working on a couple surprises.

PE: Secret weapons? Want to give us a clue?

JM: You'll just have to watch the fight. It's going down in like a week or so. I'm gonna do my best to take his head off of his shoulders.

PE: Sounds brutal. You train at Sun Tzu's Art of War, a top-notch gym in Amsterdam. What's it like there?

JM: It's great; I've got a great group of guys on my team. We all spar once a day, and I've got great strikers like Paul Luvi over in Ascension as well as world class grapplers like Fred Simmons from Grapplers Quest and Graveyard Ghost from AMC to keep me on my toes. A lot of tough guys come out of that gym.

PE: Is there anyone in the division you feel really deserves a shot at your strap?

JM: Tatlumahi obviously has a lot of hype coming into this fight, and he's a tough guy. If I get past him, I'd say Antonio Sobral or Ryan Rabago both look like their chomping at the bit to get the next ass whooping.

PE: How has your time at SPFT-ICON been so far?

JM: Well, obviously it's been great. My manager wasn't sure I was ready for the step up in competition so early in my career, but I've been working hard and I'm a good fighter, and I knew I was ready for it. I'm just trying to make the most of this opportunity and extend my time in the spotlight as long as possible.

PE: Well, we are almost out of time. Anyone you'd like to thank before we close this session?

JM: Yeah; I'd like to thank Steel Penn for giving me this chance, and of course my manager. I always want to thank the other managers and fighters out of the Vendetta camp, and my sponsors, Sun Tzu clothing and spartan nutrition. Thanks for supporting me, guys.

PE: And that's all we have time for today. Thanks for coming out to talk to us, James. And to all of you out there watching, tune in next time for another exciting episode of MMA Today!

Hello fight fans, and welcome to another edition of MMA Today. In today's segment we're going to take a closer look at the guys who put fans in the seats: the highest hyped and most popular fighters at Steel Penn: Icon. These are the guys who, win or lose, keep drawing fans back to the ticket booth. Often boasting of long careers full of exciting fights, these guys are the explosive, electric entertainers that make MMA the sport that we all love.

The lightest weight class, 135, boasts some of the heaviest hitters at ICON. Stealing the top spot at 135 is Jiu Jitsu Specialist Danjie Mercado. Mercado is 17-6, and twelve of his victories come by way of submission finish. He won his ICON debut against Tapda Mattus with a first round arm bar, and might be looking to make his first ever bid for an organizational championship here at ICON.

Another fighter at 135 with undeniable drawing power is the ICON veteran Billy Bobb. Currently riding a three fight win streak, he's really got the fans behind him on his current run. Despite boasting a lackluster record, Bobb keeps the fans and critics in his corner with his terrifying, kill or be killed fight ethic. In 29 professional victories, Bobb has knocked his opponents out 25 times!

At 145 lbs, one man reigns supreme in the eyes of ICON fans: the current Steel Penn: Icon champion Jannis "Zeus" Arvanitidis. Zeus has owned the 145 lb division since taking the belt from Melekh David in his ICON debut. Since then, he has built up a four fight win streak, defending the title against all challengers. With 27 professional victories on his record, Zeus has finished his opponents 25 times, with a wide array of submissions as well as top-notch striking ability.

At 155 lbs, John Fadden currently holds the highest esteem in the eyes of the ICON fans and pundits. Currently 2-2 in ICON, it remains to be seen whether Fadden can live up to the hype. What is undeniable is his vicious stopping power: in seventeen victories, Fadden has finished his opponents sixteen times.

Another show-stopper in the 155 lb division is ground and pound artist Antonio Sobral. Still untested at ICON, Sobral's only loss in seven fights came by way of a close split decision. Other than that, "Lolito" boasts six wins and six knockouts. Needless to say, fans are anxious to see what the future has in store for this young man.

At 170 lbs, the hype train is currently carrying former champion Glenn Benton. Despite losing his belt, and again in his rematch against current champ Four Loko, Benton is a veteran of the cage and remains the champ in the heart of many fans. With 56 pro fights and 33 victories, Benton has gone to decision only nine times in his career. Despite his recent setbacks, don't believe for a moment that we've seen the last of Glenn Benton.

Also high on everyone's list at 170 lbs is the man who claimed the title, Four Loko. Loko is a calculating, wily veteran who knows his way around every aspect of the fight game. The ICON 170 lb Title is Loko's first belt under his current management, and it doesn't look like he's going to give it up easily.

At 185, the clear fan favorite is journeyman Kyle Yikes. Yikes is a beast, with 25 knockouts in 26 victories. His only loss at ICON came in a title fight to Vlad Kersikov. With the belt vacant and the support of the fans at his back, Yikes stands to make another bid for the 185 lb championship.

Another contender for the 185 lb title is a man who is no stranger to championship bouts; with 45 professional fights, John Mayhem has fought for or defended a title in 18 matches! Since coming to ICON, two of his three losses came at the hands of former champion Vlad Kersikov. With Kersikov out of the picture, Mayhem will surely be making another play for the strap.

John Conteh is the undisputed ruler of the 205 lb division at Steel Penn: Icon. Undefeated in his nine fights at ICON, Conteh has stopped eight of nine by way of gruesome knockout. Currently riding a ten fight win streak, Conteh appears to be an MMA legend in the making.

Another game 205er who always brings a fight and the admiration of the crowd is Viacheslov Datsik. With 59 (!) pro fights, Datsik has been doing this since it was a thing. At 40 years of age, it is hard telling how many more fights Datsik has in him, but for now he is still a crowd pleasing favorite at Steel Penn-Icon.

The 265 lb weight division is another tank of sharks at ICON. Currently sitting at the top of the food chain, at least in the eyes of the fans, is the war-scarred veteran Cedric Mabuva. Mabuva has went one for one in his start at ICON, but with 31 TKO victories on his record one can never count him out of any fight.

The biggest of the big boys, 265+ lbs champion Ray Force certainly lives up to his name. With an impressive 21-6 record, Force has certainly earned his spot at the top of the heap. Even more impressive is that all 21 of his victories have come by way of knockout. At any moment, Force's opponents know that it could be lights out, and it usually happens sooner than later.

Another big dog in the eyes of the fans is Imperiex Prime. Prime comes to ICON riding a four fight win streak, and is set to make his SPFT debut against Zephyrus Belenis. With 16 knockouts in 16 wins, Prime has the power and ability to go toe to toe with the hardest of contenders and is always just one big punch away from winning any fight.

And there you have it! The top of the heap in the eyes of Steel Penn-Icon fans. Although, as we all know, the fans can quickly turn against an athlete in the time it takes his opponent to land a knockout blast. Who knows will be in the news next week? Every fighter at ICON is only a few big fights away from leaving a permanent mark as a true legend of mixed martial arts.

http://mmatycoon.com/gallery/30/30w14.jpg John Fadden (239582) I came to Steel Penn with one goal in mind, championship gold. My resume speaks for itself, but I also know that with the field of top level fighters in this division who may have something to say about who gets the winner of Minion v Miller I want everyone in this organization to know that I'm ready to face ANYONE.....Sobral, Tatlumahi. or whoever else the top brass sees fit. I'm always training, always improving, and ALWAYS ready to answer the call. NEVER BACK DOWN!

To all the fans who have followed my career from the Island all the way here to Steel Penn and those of you who are just coming on board, your support is much appreciated and I hope I never let you down.

I created 2 poster templates for the event posters for SPI Hilo that will be used from now on.

The first one is for the 'fight night-events', and the second one is for the other events. You can see an example of both here.

John Fadden [239582] Blade Runner [265202]

The current SPI Hilo #1 contender at 155 and current SPI Helsinki 265lb champion have been seen sparring at Bad Pluto! in both the boxing ring and on the wrestling mat. The pair both have fights with serious implications for their respective companies coming up on July 22.

Fadden [17-10] will face 11-3 Kilafwa Tatlumahi [258041] in a fight that will most likely determine who will face the winner of the upcoming rematch between the champ Mega Minion and James Mille whose 1st fight ended in a draw, leaving the fighters, the fans, and the organization anxiously anticipating this fight and the crowning of an undisputed champion at 155. Both Fadden & Tatlumahi are coming off impressive victories in their last fights, both victories by KO. Fadden looks to utilize his considerable strength and speed advantages to neutralize the dangerous Muay Thai clinch and deadly feet of Tatlumahi and there's few in the MMA world who are forecasting this fight going to the judges.

Blade Runner is the 4x defending SPI Helsinki 265lb champ. His grip on the division was unquestioned until Grenovsky smashed his way back into the title picture and took Runner to the brink and beyond. Their 2nd meeting ended in draw heard round the world in the heavyweight division. Neither fighter gave an inch thru 5 rounds of thunderous strikes and earth shaking takedowns by the champ and his challenger. With the day of reckoning soon approaching for both Runner & Grenovsky the world can only sit with baited breath in what this third meeting of giants will bring. Will it be the clarity of a victorious champ Blade Runner who will journey forward toward his next title defense or will it be the beginning of a new era in the 265lb division? If Ignat Grenovsky can pull off the seemingly impossible and dethrone Blade Runner how long will it be before Ignat is the one looking over his shoulder at former champ looking to reclaim his crown and his kingdom?

Rumor has it that the two are also bringing in their friend and training partner Higgs Boson [271743] in for some additional sparring work in the boxing ring for the upcoming fight....this will be the 2nd time the 3 fighters have gotten together to help Blade Runner prepare for a title defense.

I'm proud to present our first new big signing at SP Icon HIlo:

Ethelbart Takahashi

38-16-0

29 finishes (t)KO's

227 p4p and 35th worldwide at HW

He is a man of little words, as he prefers to do his talking in the cage. I sat down with him, and the interview with Taka went as expected; short and intense.

How does it feel to be back at SP ICON Hilo?

Im happy

What made you decide to sign the contract here and not in one of the top ranked orgs that wanted you as well?

Secret (Louie is cheap)

How good does it feel to be on a 5 fight winning streak and now fighting for the belt on your return to the org?

Ask me this question when i am on 50 fight winning streak. About the belt that's an easy win for me

What is your biggest asset in the MMA circuit. I mean, what is it that makes you so good?

I think it's because my manager is Filipino and not just Filipino. I am the Filipino Mafia Leader. And he is 4-0 against Top 3 manager right now.

http://i.imgur.com/GuPB66N.png

How is training going?

Training? What's that? i forgot about that thing.

What do you consider your biggest achievement in your career so far?

Beating 265+ when i was 185. lol They're bums

Do you have certain goals in mind for 2015 ?

Nope I just want money

How do you feel that you match up with the top 10 ranked guys worldwide at HW and is there anyone in particular that you would like to fight in the future?

I've been there so many times Nope, I am just avoiding Louie's fighters because they're bums.

Your training partner Simeon Malaya signed for us as well. Were you the one to convince him to come over, or did your management team decide that?

Management

As you can see, Taka likes to keep is short and simple.

We wish him all the best and look forward to seeing him fight in our org!

Not only did we sign Taka, but we also signed his training partner and EVO veteran, Simeon Malaya, who fought Bowser Stormcrow in one of his last fights in EVO for the belt. Malaya is a top level fighter and he has the track record to prove it.

We are very proud of this signing because almost all the top orgs were after him.

SP-ICON 243 Recap

http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/posters/1436259660SP-ICON%20243.jpg

It was a good night of fights for sure, with two title fights headlining the card. John Conteh once again showed why he is the longtime champion and dominated his opponent for little over 3 rounds before finishing him in the 4th. Amazing display once again of our champion and an honor to see him do so well with us.

He is fastly becoming a legend of the org.

Taiki Aoki defeated the 145lbs champion Jannis Arvanitidis and claimed his gold by winning a great fight where both guys had their moments.

KO of the night: Devil Anse Hatfield for his quick and brutal KO win.

Sub of the night: Fred Palowakski as the veteran subbed his opponent fast .

FOTN: Taiki Aoki vs Jannis Arvanitidis for their great back and forward battle.

MMA TODAY

-------------------

Hello, fight fans! Welcome to MMA today, your source of news from your favorite fighting organization. I'm your host, Pueblo Escobart, and today we will be hearing from one of the managers who responded to our recent questions about your best and worst moments at Steel Penn: ICON.

First up is Bugoy Torero, manager of ICON fighter Nate Timmons, a veteran of seven fights at ICON.

Escobart: What is your most memorable win at Steel Penn: ICON?

Torero: this fight: http://mmatycoon.com/fightcommentary.php?FTID=743921

the rush in making the leaping lead hook was awesome and he was shut down, I was glad i made it!

Escobart: Which was your most difficult loss?

Torero: this fight: http://mmatycoon.com/fightcommentary.php?FTID=734789

besides from it, being a title shot, i was in the ring for 25 seconds only..until now it hurts me and at the same time it motivates me to train harder, be stronger, and hope to earn a title shot again...in the future!

I'm proud to present another new big signing at SP Icon HIlo:

Sotiris Kakoullis

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/25/25w28.jpg

17-4-0 ( 14 finishes)

27 years old

Sotiris is a natural born middleweight who has fought his entire career at middleweight so far. He is the two time TGC Champion and 4 time AMS Champion. Sotiris is 7-1 in title fights, so let it be clear that the guy isn't messing around and that he knows how to get the job done. He is a world class boxer with great wrestling and amazing KO power. After losing the belt in AMS, he went on a 4 fight winning streak, but lost his last fight against Atunes, who is a big name, so no shame in losing a fight against him. Atunes, who has some wicked KO power as well, wasn't able to hurt him during their fight, so that also says a lot about Sotiris his toughness. It's an honor to have such an amazing fighter here and we look forward to his bright future in our org.

Not only is he a great fighter, but he also has some of the best management the MMA world has ever seen. HIs legendary manager Klatz Matz is considered by many one of the greatest of all times. He has an overall historic record of 651-285-17 and has been the number one ranked manager multiple times. When people speak about elite managers, he will always be mentioned, that's for sure.

I would like to wish Sotiris and his manager Klatz good luck and it's an honor having you guys here!

And here we are again :D

I'm proud to present another new big signing at SP Icon HIlo:

Arial Jones

11063606_1194954970530583_17809497511958

19-6-1

33 years old

The 33 year old , coming out of New Zealand is a beast of a fighter. Due to unforseen situations, he has had 2 other managers in the past. His first manager guided him to 7-3 record and the world fight league title. His manager visited Thailand and found a 'girl' there and was never seen back, so Arial looked for a new manager. He found a new one in the name of ' The Can Crusher'. This manager got him to a 4-1 record under his management, but released him from his team after the one defeat. It was then that he was picked up by current manager, Free Datsik, who has helped him evolve as a martial artist. He is 8-2-1 with Free Datsik , but even more impressive is that his only two losses came to the hands of Lucas Bishop, one of the top names of the MMA world and the longtime EVO middleweight champion. His first fight against Bishop was a unanimous decision loss, as he wasn't able to defend against the clinching of his opponent very well. HIs last fight was a split decision loss against the same opponent, but this time the judges might even have gotten it wrong. Bishop started the fight better, but as the fight went on, Arial clearly was dictating the pace and did enough in my opinion to get his hand raised. It's sad for him that the judges didn't see it that way, but on the other hand, that gave us the opportunity to try and sign him as he wasn't the EVO Champ.

We are very proud of having signed this amazing fighter, who does not only have world class Muay Thai, but also has Olympic level wrestling. He has proven to be an absolute beast in the past and will no doubt be looking to fight his way to the status of a legend here. We wish him and his manager all the best and look forward to working with him!

An absolute brilliant signing and the fighter was so kind to let us do an interview with him. I proudly present to you :

http://www.mmatycoon.com/gallery/0/14362380307413.png

Sergei "SNIPERSHOT" Dragunov

How happy are you to finally return to action after a long time away from the sport?

I am glad to start another phase of my career with my new manager.

Do you think that the 3 year of non-fighting has hurt your skills and abilities?

Who says in haven't been fighting?huh,i always made sure that i involve myself in as much bar fights as possible so as to sharpen my killer instincts .I used to spar with siberian bears everyday back in russia.i used to pick fights with anyone just for fun.i would go to football matches and beat up rival fans.God bless my beloved Spartak Moscow.fuck you CSKA fans.my skills are good as ever.

Are you happy to have been picked up by Mr. J , a manager known for his big bank account, so he can really invest in you... ?

Yeah,I am absolutely delighted to be managed by the notorious Mr.J.He and i think along the same lines. On my first day at his camp i was given a jet of my own.He took it from one of his trash fighters and handed the jet to me.It was stocked with booze and bitches.i can't find any manager better than this.We both then kicked the trash fighter's ass for letting the big man down.

I heard rumors that some of the elite orgs were after you as well, for obvious reasons, but in the end you decided to join us. What made you decide to join our ranks ?

UFC was after me after dana white saw a video clip of me killing a bear with my bare hands.it was unfortunate incident.I thought the bear understood the no biting rule while sparring.Damn, motherfucker didn't listen and bit me twice. The 2nd time he bit me I had it enough,i picked him up and slammed him so hard that the poor animal just died right on the spot.Don't bother to look for the clip on internet. You tube took it down as it was extremely disturbing and violent.Things didn’t work out with UFC as that bald fuck dana wanted me to fight some chump fighter first. i told him to fuck off as I don’t fight some sideshow freaks.that’s where our deal collapsed.

One day Bjorn comes to my room with a jean claude van damme along side him.finally ,I was able to meet my childhood hero and that sealed the deal and I signed with this org……..(trying to remember the name).

Who is the opponent that you think is the hardest one to beat in the division and what fighters might become good in the future?

Oh plz,i haven't even looked at the division as of yet.Screw the fighters and their future.

Do you have a message for your huge amount of followers?

With my recent antics in Russia I have more enemies than fans. It’s like I am infamous rather than famous.i’ll be working now to change that image.

Perhaps you also have one last message to the other HW's in the world?

Fabrício Werdum should be glad that i didn't join UFC otherwise the current in the the ''current UFC Heavyweight Champion'' would have been removed and replaced by former.

Sergei Dragunov will fight the current HW champion Ethelbart Takahashi on the 15 of August 2015 in an absolute beast of a fight, where millions will be watching!
