Impact MMA 32 LaMotta v Pennypacker preview

to be held at Hayashi's Lounge, London tonight.

205lbs Title Fight Jake "The Raging Bull" LaMotta(5-1-0){5-0-0} vs "Industrious" AG Pennypacker(5-0-1){3-0-0}

LaMotta had the best fight of his career last time he fought, he knocked out the until then undefeated champ out in the first round to take the belt and his 5th straight win at Impact. LaMotta's confidence will be sky high and his manager has made sure he is in the best condition possible as this fight will surely be the biggest test for LaMotta to date.

Pennypacker has had his eye on the title from the moment he joined Impact and has followed his plans to the letter the make sure he climbed the ranks quickly and earns himself a shot at the title. He came from a kick boxing org before he signed at Impact and has made a smooth transition to MMA fighting. Pennypacker has a decent Muay Thai advantage over LaMotta but he also has a purple belt compared to LaMotta's white belt. We've only seen him go to ground and get the submission once previously as it looks like he prefers to stand and fight. I'm not sure whether he will take the chance of trying for a takedown or not tonight as he might not want to risk getting caught by LaMotta's powerful punches. I think LaMotta will walk into the cage the slight underdog tonight but that didn't stop him before and if he fights as good as he did against Irvin he could well be walking away with successful defence of the title.

My prediction: Pennypacker will have to be cautious but I think he should be able to do it. Pennypacker by TKO in round 2.

265+lbs Rsghrhr "Fdjfj" Hrjrgjsjs(7-0-0){0-0-0} vs Fat "Mayonnaise" Burger(3-1-0){3-0-0}

First off, this is probably the most unusual name I have ever come across at Impact, I have no idea what language that is and I will have no will power to write the rest of this preview if I use his full name so from here on in he shall be known as Roger, unless his manager can translate his nickname.

Roger is a newcomer to Impact MMA, he has had 7 fights in his career and has won all 7 by submission. He has fantastic wrestling technique combined with a purple belt in bjj and has been unstoppable so far winning 5 out of his 7 fights in the first round. He joined Impact as he knows we have some of the most talented 235k fighters in the tycoon universe here and I am looking forward to see how he stands up to some of them.

His first task will be to stop Burger. Burger lost his first fight at Impact but is currently on a 3 fight win streak and is flying up the rankings, another victory here tonight could potentially see him getting a shot at the title, depending on other fighter’s results too. Burger is a talented fighter who is nowhere more at home than fighting in the clinch. His elbows are some of the most dangerous in the division, if not the org. He has put away a couple of big names already but is still fairly untested by ground fighters. He definitely has the wrestling skills to keep the fight standing and that will be crucial tonight if he wants to keep his unbeaten run.

My prediction: I haven't seen Roger fight yet and will go with Burger who is on a superb run of form at the moment. Burger by KO in round 2.

155lbs Paul "Scrap" Landen(4-1-0){2-0-0} vs Boros Monet(3-1-0){3-1-0}

Landen is so far unbeaten at Impact, he has 2 fights since joining up and has had 2 impressive victories. He's a talented striker who favours the art of Muay Thai. His leg kicks are deadly accurate and can slow the best of opponents down, enabling him to take his time and pick his moment to unload with his powerful punches and end the fight.

Monet has only lost once in his career and that was against the formidable Aoki so there is absolutely no shame in that. Monet is a very talented boxer with a granite chin to make him even harder to put down. His only potential weakness at the moment could be his ability to defend against takedowns. I don't think Landen will try anything like that tonight as he is much more comfortable fighting on his feet and could be taking a risk by getting caught by a counter punch.

My prediction: This could be a really close fight but I think Landen might be the smarter fighter and I will go with him: Landen by TKO in round 3.

170lbs Shapovolov "The Titan" Sokoloff(4-2-0){2-2-0} vs Samson "420" Jones(4-2-0){3-2-0}

Sokoloff had a little run of bad luck and was in losing ways until recently. His last fight saw him win in style and pick up sub of the night which has done wonders for his confidence. Sokoloff is a submission specialist although he does have some striking skills should he need them. I see him definitely going for the takedown tonight and another award could be his if he performs like his last outing.

Jones is a talented striker. He has only lost two times before in his career and both of those were to big names, in his last fight we also saw him take the unusual strategy of taking his opponent down, quite a risky move as he looks to have no grounds skills to speak of but it paid off an he got another win under his belt. He has been hovering around the top contenders for a while and a win here tonight could see him break down the door. His manager asked for this fight as he wanted to push and test Jones defensive skills. I think this time he will try and remain on his feet, if he is careful and doesn't get caught, he could well walk away with another win.

My prediction: Sokoloff is on a run of good form at the moment and that momentum might be enough. Sokoloff by submission in round 2.

205lbs Cas Maverick(5-1-0){1-1-0} vs "Lucky" Liam McGuiness(5-3-0){0-0-0}

In Maverick's first fight he was unlucky enough to bump into Pennypacker as he was climbing the ranks, he put on a superb show and the fight nearly went to the judges but he got caught by a submission in the 3rd round. In his last fight he bounced back superbly beating a talented striker with a purple belt which will have done wonders for his confidence and help confirm that he does have the skills to rise to the top.

McGuiness is another newcomer to Impact. He has had 8 previous fights winning most of them and he is currently on a 3 fight win streak. This youngster is a talented boxer and definitely has the skills to test Maverick. This should be a great fight as they are pretty evenly matched on paper and are both coming off the back of good results. Rumours are floating around that McGuiness is actually not too bright but I suspect this could be a ploy by his manager and he could be looking to surprise a few people.

My prediction: A very difficult fight to call. I think McGuiness's win streak gives him the edge although I think I could easily be proved wrong. McGuiness by decision.

205lbs Obidiah Davis(2-0-0){2-0-0} vs Joey Kocur(3-2-0){3-2-0}

Davis has had two fights so far and picked up two impressive victories. This youngster is a talented boxer and is climbing the ranks steadily proving that the top guys might do well to keep an eye on him. He seems to be comfortable fighting both in and out of the clinch, his only real weakness at the moment is that he might be prone to takedowns but I'm sure his manager has an excellent training regime and will have this covered in time.

Kocur has been at Impact since it first opened its doors for business. He has had 5 fights so far and only had 2 losses. One of them being to Impact's Pennypacker who he went the full distance with and only just lost on points. This will be a tough fight for both fighters, I think Davis might have the edge if the fight stays in the clinch but Kocur has the skills to make it difficult for him to be tied up by Davis.

My prediction: I'm struggling with this decision but I think Davis might just take it. Davis by decision.

205lbs SJ Mitchell(3-1-0){3-1-0} vs Justin Timber(2-0-0){1-0-0}

Mitchell is a great striker that is also capable of fighting on the ground thanks to his purple belt in bjj. He was unbeaten until his last fight, where he got caught by a striker. Up until then he has faced a variety of opponents both ground fighters and strikers and proved he is happy to face both and still come away with the wins.

Timber is a great wrestler who can also trade punches. In his debut for Impact, he impressed the fans with his stand up fighting and then took a much superior bjj fighter to the floor and punished him with some vicious GnP. Tonight, he'll be looking to do exactly the same but I think Mitchell will surely have some say in that matter. This has all the ingredients to be a fantastic fight, they can both stand and bang and they both have good track records on the ground. I can't wait for this fight to start.

My prediction: There is nothing between these fighters really. Mitchell has the edge in experience and I think I will go with that. Mitchell by TKO in round 3.

170lbs Alois "Muay" Perina(1-1-0){0-1-0} vs Vinnie Haz(4-4-0){4-3-0}

First night nerves got the better of Perina last time out, but now that 1st fight is out of the way he is keen to put on a show and give the fans at Impact a real display of his Muay Thai skills. He looks to be in great shape physically but his morale is quite low, I'm not sure how much of an effect that will have on tonight’s result but it could be something his manager will want to keep an eye on (a change of new clothes every day for 4-5days would see him back to almost full morale)

Haz has no issues with morale after his last fight, the fans watched him knockout his opponent inside of 5 seconds in the opening round, one of the quickest finishes we have seen at Impact so far. Haz has had a bit of a bumpy ride in his career so far with a win often followed by a loss but I believe, after seeing his confidence in his last fight, he could be on the verge of breaking through that unlucky stretch and start to string together some nice victories.

My prediction: I think Haz has the momentum and will come out and have the fight of his career. Haz by TKO in round 2.

265+lbs Gary "Old Boy" Scott(0-0-0){0-0-0} vs Harrison "The Tower" Cambroy(2-3-0){0-3-0}

Scott will be taking his very first steps in to a cage this evening and he has chosen to do it in front of the fans at Impact. He is so far completely untested but looks to have some impressive striking and wrestling skill with a blue belt in bjj, which could see him able to change strategies depending on his opponent or how the fight is going. He is a new fighter and has signed up with a new manager who is already showing signs of being talented. His manager has already moved him out of the less than desirable Cozad gym and has been busy working on his fighter’s physicals. Unfortunately his fighter has been a little too keen and over trained and won't be stepping in the cage with full energy so it's unsure how his first fight will go.

Cambroy has had an unfortunate run of luck recently. He is currently on a 3 fight losing streak but he definitely has the skill to turn it around. He has almost identical skills to his opponent in that he has some good Muay Thai technique, decent wrestling skill and a blue belt in bjj. I think with some more training and a little bit of specialization he could really string a few wins together and start climbing the rankings, all he needs is a little luck to get him started.

My prediction: Cambroy may have just got his lucky break, with Scott being very tired from overtraining, I think it could open the door for Cambroy to muscle in and take this win. Cambroy by TKO in round 2.

205lbs Hugo Boss(1-2-0){0-1-0} vs Dave Manson(0-2-0){0-1-0}

Here we have two youngsters at the start of their career. They have both had losses in the early part of their career which is nothing unusual as many managers test their fighters before they are ready to help pinpoint their weaknesses and strengths. They both made their debuts in their last fights and they both unfortunately lost. Both are talented Muay Thai strikers who are looking for their first win, this could be a brutal fight which will have the fans on the edge of their seats. There is nothing between these fighters on paper and it could all come down to who wants the win more. I have no doubt that both these fighters will do exceptionally well in the long run but tonight only one man will walk out with a win on his record.

My prediction: An incredibly difficult fight to call, I see either of these fighters walking away with the victory.

The normal $2k will be awarded to 'of the night' awards, an additional $2k will be awarded for any fighter that wins a 100% rated fight.

The Finish in Style bonus of $5k will be awarded to the fighter that can finish his opponent by KO(superman punch) as I have yet to see one at Impact or for the ground fighters by submission(triangle armbar).

There is also the new bonus for the Fastest Finish. Anyone who finishes their opponent in less than 1 minute will qualify, the fastest finish of the night will pick up a $5k bonus.

Impact MMA 32 Bonuses and awards

With 5 T/KO's and 3 submissions in this action packed event, competition was fierce for the 'of the night' awards.

Fight of the night went to: AG Pennypacker vs Jake LaMotta, a fantastic battle that went the full 5 rounds, LaMotta was the new champ but had the fight of his life trying to defend his title. Pennypacker walked away with the decision and is now the new light heavyweight champ.

KO of the night went to: Joey Kocur, in a fierce battle between two strikers Kocur caught Davis with a massive uppercut sending him crashing back against the cage, a brutal knockout which the crowd loved.

Sub of the night went to: SJ Mitchell, a dangerous game of cat and mouse, bjj vs wrestler ended when Mitchell executed a perfect armbar forcing his opponent to tap.

Pennypacker, Burger, Landen, Maverick, Kocur and Manson also receive $2k each for winning a 100% rated fight.

There were a lot of good finishes but no one finished their opponent in under 1 minute and so nobody qualified for the Fastest Finish Bonus. There were no fighters eligible for the Finish in Style bonus either this week.

Full review to follow shortly.

Jake LaMotta

Congrats to the new champ, I fought my best out there and he was simply the better fighter so my hats off to him. His takedowns were strong and I just couldn't stop them, these new breed of young fighters are a force to be reckoned with. I may never be champ again but it was nice while it lasted, I've never gotten so much ass in my entire life, but thats beside the point. One thing is for sure, I am here to stay so look forward to more exciting fights

Impact MMA 32 LaMotta vs Pennypacker review

205lbs Title Fight LaMotta vs Pennypacker

I thought LaMotta had the best fight of his career against Irvin in his last fight to win the title, that was until I saw him give it everything he had in this title defence. LaMotta is a formidable striker but I thought his game plan would either depend on keeping the fight standing should Pennypacker choose to go to ground or to be able to defend against Pennypacker's superior Muay Thai skills. I couldn't have been more wrong. Within the opening seconds Pennypacker had scored a successful takedown, I thought wrongly that it would be the end of LaMotta very soon after that. LaMotta proved to be a very slippery customer and defended superbly against Pennypacker's ground and pound. They did stand up at various stages throughout the fight but Pennypackers excellent defences meant that many of LaMotta's strikes weren't able to get through. Most of the fight took place on the floor and LaMotta did an amazing job to defend and keep Pannypacker from doing any real damage for the full 5 rounds. It ended up going to the judges and Pennypacker won every round. A great fight by both fighters.

Winner and new Light Heavyweight champion: AG Pennypacker by unanimous decision

265+lbs Burger vs Hrjrgjjs

If Burger was going to have any chance of winning he had to keep the fight standing at all costs. At the beginning of the fight it was a real struggle to see who was going to take control of the fight. Hrj was desperate to take the fight to the floor which would have no doubt been the end of the fight for Burger as Hrj had won his last 7 fights all by submission. Burger defended brilliantly against the takedowns but couldn't quite get Hrj into the clinch where he could do some real damage. Just before the end of the first minute the stalemate was broken and Burger had him in the clinch. Within a few strikes Hrj was cut by one of Burgers deadly elbows. Hrj kept looking for the takedown, he was unsuccessful but at least it broke him free from the clinch. Burger had sensed that victory was within his grasp and took the fight back into the clinch at every opportunity. It wasn't long before his elbows were really making a mess of Hrj's face and opening the cut even more. With less than a minute to go to the end of the first round, the ref had to jump in and stop the fight due to Hrj's cut. A great fight by Burger who has now won his 4th fight in a row. I'm sure there is much more to come from Hrj though.

Winner: Burger by TKO(cut) in round 1

155lbs Landen vs Monet

Both strikers wanted to take the fight into the clinch but it was a struggle at first to decide who was going to actually do it. Landen eventually muscled Monet into the clinch and struck with a decent uppercut and body punch before showing complete control and breaking from the clinch. From there he let fly with some vicious body kicks, it wasn't long before Monet was winded. Landen took the fight back to the inside and dominated in the clinch. As he broke from the clinch again he caught Monet with a fabulous head kick which put Monet on the floor. As he got up Landen struck with a huge left and then pummelled him until Monet tapped out. It may have gone Monet's way if he could have kept it out of the clinch but another nice win for Landen.

Winner: Landen by TKO(submission) in round 1

170lbs Sokoloff vs Jones

Jones's manager had asked for this fight to purposely test his fighter’s ability against ground fighters. Apparently there was some mix up with instructions from the corner men as they thought that Sokoloff was a striker and gave Jones the wrong advice (wrong sliders). Jones defended well against the first takedown and even landed a counter uppercut. However on the next attempt Jones was caught unaware and ended up on the ground. Once on the ground he bravely fought off a few submission attempts but he was no match for Sokoloff on the floor and Jones was tapping out after a few more submission attempts. A good fight by Sokoloff but it will be interesting to see Jones fight with the proper instructions next time.

Winner: Sokoloff by submission(armbar) in round 1

205lbs Maverick vs McGuiness

This was impossible for me to tell who would win out of these 2 young boxers. Maverick took control of the fight and was choosing to mix things up a little by entering and breaking clinch keeping McGuiness from getting a good rhythm and frustrating him. Once out of the clinch both fighters were really going for it. There were quite a few missed punches but I'm sure if a few had connected either of the fighters would have gone down. Maverick took the first round. As they came out for the second round McGuiness seemed to be finding his target with a lot more accuracy but out of nowhere Maverick connect with a superb combo and down went McGuiness. As he got up Maverick struck him again and the ref jumped in to stop the fight.

Winner: Maverick by TKO(strikes) in round 2

205lbs Kocur vs O.Davis

Kocur came out very aggressive, he was missing quite a few shots but he was also landing a few shots that seemed to be doing damage. Davis looked content to play it more cautious and was attempting to step out of the way of the punches and connect with some counter punches. The fight then went into the clinch and both fighters really seem to step up a gear. Davis attempting to land some big knees and elbows while Kocur was just focused on punching Davis's head. They were both connecting with some big punches and it was only a matter of time until someone went down. Davis landed a big knee to the head of Kocur but was then caught by a punch himself, Davis was rocked. Kocur then landed a fantastic uppercut and followed up with more strikes. The ref jumped in and the fight was over. A great fight by both strikers.

Winner: Kocur by TKO(strikes) in round 1

205lbs Mitchell vs Timber

Two ground fighters with good striking ability, Mitchell had the bjj advantage - Timber had the wrestling advantage. As the fight started Timber looked like he was going to try and keep the fight standing and then moved into the clinch. Mitchell had been unable to get the takedown but once inside the clinch he was successful with his attempt. Timber proved to be a great wrestler in his last fight where he beat a brown belt but now he was on his back, he was no match for Mitchell. Mitchell was unable to take full advantage of the position before the bell rang for the end of round 1 but as round 2 started he got an early takedown followed by a quick submission. I don't think we saw the best of Timber in this fight. Another nice win for Mitchell.

Winner: Mitchell by submission(armbar) in round 2

170lbs Perina vs Haz

Haz seemed to come out of his corner looking for a quick finish to this fight. They both traded punches and it was difficult to tell who was getting the better of the fight. Haz took the fight into the clinch but before he could do much Perina had escaped. They looked to be lining each other up again ready to trade punches when Perina let fly with a massive uppercut which sent Haz flying to the canvas. Perina quickly followed up and the fight was over.

Winner: Perina by TKO(strikes) in round 1

265+lbs Scott vs Cambroy

There were initial concerns for Scott before the fight as he had over trained and was entering the cage short on energy. As it turns out he had plenty of energy to go the full 3 rounds. Both fighters struggled to control this fight on the ground and couldn’t keep their opponent still enough to take advantage. It ended up going the full distance with Scott just winning on points.

Winner: Scott by unanimous decision

205lbs Manson vs Boss

Two Muay Thai strikers who were both on a 2 fight losing streak and both desperate for the win. Boss looked to land a few big punches but Manson skilfully side stepped them. Manson decided to chop at Boss's legs. Manson then struck Boss with a knee to the groin. It's impossible to tell how much influence this had on the fight or whether it was the power of Manson's leg kicks but shortly after Boss recovered the fight went into the clinch, Manson made some room and caught Boss with a huge uppercut which was the end of the fight for Boss. A nice victory against a good opponent for Manson.

Winner: Manson by TKO(punches) in round 1.

Impact MMA 33 preview

Taking place tonight at Hayashi's Lounge London.

205lbs James "Sandman" Irvin(9-1-0){5-1-0} vs James Rush(3-0-0){0-0-0}

This is Irvin's first fight since unfortunately losing the title to Jake LaMotta, which was also his first ever loss after racking up an incredible 9 fight win streak. Irvin is a great clinch fighter with dangerous knees. His manager has done a great job of getting his morale back up and he looks to be in great shape. Everyone will be watching to see how he does in his first fight and whether he will be making an assault on the title shortly or whether he will need a little more time to find his feet.

Rush is a newcomer to Impact MMA, he has had 3 previous fights winning them all by T/KO. Rush is a talented wrestler with some decent boxing skills. He likes to take his opponents down and then drop some vicious GnP. He does seem to be pretty comfortable in the clinch but I'm not sure if he will be brave enough to risk that with Irvin. A tough test for both of them. I'm not sure how Irvin will handle the fight against a better wrestler, I think Rush could still be in a lot of danger if Irvin ties him up in the clinch

My prediction: A tough call call but I think I'll go with the clinch power of Irvin to take this one. Irvin by TKO in round 2

170lbs Bobbo Jones(4-1-0){0-0-0} vs Omari Akhmedov(4-2-0){2-2-0}

Jones is yet another addition to the ranks of Impact. He has had 5 fights so far in his career with only one loss on a points decision. He is a great all round fighter with a purple belt in bjj. He does seem to have a flair for finding submission with 3 out of his 4 wins coming from making his opponent tapping out.

Akhmedov has a very similar skillset to Jones so it should have all the ingredients for an exciting fight. He is currently coming off the back of a 2 fight losing streak due to shooting up the ranks and facing some of the 170's best fighters. A decent win here for Akhmedov will see him climb back up the ranks to sit just outside the contenders and get his career heading in the right direction once again.

My prediction: It could easily go either way as both fighters have very similar skills. I think Akhmedov could be slightly hungrier for the win in this bout. Akhmedov by decision.

170lbs Kevin Anderson(3-0-0){1-0-0} vs Scott Page(1-0-0){1-0-0}

Both fighters made their debuts for Impact in their last fights, both fighters came away with impressive victories. Page then took to the smack talk in the hope of finding his next opponent, Anderson was brave enough to accept the challenge. Both fighters are talented all-rounders, Page has the superior bjj skills with a brown belt in bjj. Anderson has slightly better striking and wrestling skills but has a blue belt in bjj. Page's chin has yet to be tested and Anderson certainly has some amazing striking power. I think Anderson will look to keep the fight standing whilst Page will look to use his bjj advantage on the floor. As yet we don't know how well Anderson ground game is but we might just fight out in this exciting match up.

My prediction: This really could go either way, Ander son has 1 shot ko power but I think Page might prove to be too slippery for him. Page by submission in round 3.

155lbs Louis "The Freak" Friedlander(1-0-0){1-0-0} vs Jakinek Ii "The Giant" Jakinek(3-2-0){3-2-0}

Friedlander is a new recruit, he has had just one previous fight before signing up with Impact which he won in style picking up a 1st round submission. He has good striking ability combined with a purple belt in bjj giving him some good offensive and defensive options in hi fights. Jakinek really is a giant of a man at 225cm tall. The striker will no doubt look to take advantage of his reach but his long limbs could become quite a liability against a talented ground fighter. His morale is also a bit lower than it could due to a loss in his last fight. I'm not sure how much of a difference it will make in this fight but I wouldn't take the risk. I'm sure his manager will be on the ball and change his clothing to give him a well needed boost before his next fight. I think due to Jakinek's morale and recent form I will go with the newcomer on this occasion but he will have to be careful not to get caught by a big right hand.

My prediction: Friedlander by submission in round 2

265+lbs Rolande "Hear Me Roar" Deeds(4-0-0){0-0-0} vs Iouri "JJ" Blunderskard(3-1-0){1-0-0}

Deeds is all set for his debut tonight. He already has 4 victories under his belt from 4 fights and this talented boxer will be looking to continue his win streak tonight when he faces Blunderskard. Blunderskard is also a boxer and has already notched up his first victory at Impact. His wrestling skills aren't quite up to Deeds' standard but he has some devastating punches. I'm not sure how well he will perform if Deeds chooses to take the fight into the clinch but we should be in for an excellent fight from both these strikers.

My prediction: Tough call but I think Deeds might just take this one if he's careful. Deeds by TKO in round 3

170lbs Bang Ding Ow(1-1-0){1-0-0} vs Danny Brown(2-2-0){1-2-0}

Ow picked up a nice win in his debut fight last time out. Ow is an impressive fighter with a brown belt in bjj and some decent striking skill. He will go in to this fight with a significant wrestling dis-advantage so I'm not sure if we will see him go to ground in search of the submission or see him attempt to keep the fight standing.

Brown is a fantastic wrestler with a purple belt in bjj and some good striking skills. He has some serious skill on the floor and loves nothing more than beating his opponents into submission with GnP. There's not too much between these 2 when it comes to the stand-up game, but if it goes to the ground it will be a classic case of submission vs wrestling. Brown looks like he might have overslept and had to grab the first flight possible to London. As he's travelling all the way from Sydney this could have a huge impact on his energy levels and may have just gifted Ow the win.

My prediction: I think it would have been much closer if the energy levels didn't come in to it. Ow by submission in round 2.

205lbs Gunnar "Rebel" Grimsson(2-2-0){1-2-0} vs Ashwan "The Cannibal" Balrak(2-5-0){2-3-0}

Grimsson has had a rocky start so far at Impact, he has proven he has some decent skill by beating some talented strikers but unfortunately lost his last fight to a better ground fighter. He is quite a good all round fighter with KO power and a blue belt in bjj. Unfortunately his manager has missed that his morale isn't too great (a change of new clothes (150) for 4 days on the run will get it almost back to 100%) but luckily for him I don't think it will matter in this bout.

Balrak is a talented Muay Thai fighter with a deadly right hand that has already knocked a couple of his previous opponents out cold. He has the skills to do very well but as yet just hasn't found the right strategy to beat some of the better fighters in the division giving him a bit of a yo-yo record at the moment. Unfortunately for him, this has really had a big effect on his morale and will be stepping in to the cage with 0 morale, who knows how that will affect the outcome of this fight.

My prediction: Another fight which would have been much closer and could have gone a different way if it weren't for circumstances outside the cage. Grimsson by TKO in round 2.

170lbs Nick "The Hard" Dick(5-4-0){5-3-0} vs "Prince" Ivan Gronzy(0-1-0){0-0-0}

Dick was recently on a very successful run of form and saw him notch up 3 wins in a row and climb the rankings rapidly. Unfortunately it appears he didn't quite have the game plan to go with the rank and has since lost the last 2 fights to some tough opponents. He has the skills and is still young enough to get back up the ranks and try again and a win here will do wonders for his confidence.

Gronzy has recently joined Impact and will be stepping into the cage for the first time since signing his contract. They both have blue belts in bjj but Dick has the better wrestling skill whilst Gronzy has the advantage in the striking skills. This should be a great fight.

My prediction: I'm not sure how this one is going to turn out. Dick by TKO in round 3.

265+lbs "The Mammoth" Mats Thorensen(0-1-0){0-0-0} vs Gregory "Mountain" Clegane(1-2-0){0-2-0}

These two fighters have virtually identical skills, they both have blue belts and good wrestling skills with some modest striking technique. Thorensen has the slight wrestling advantage whilst Clegane has a slight striking advantage. Thorensen is all set to make his debut tonight and looks in great form. He will have no doubt been studying tapes of Cleganes fights and be looking for any signs of weakness to steal his first win for Impact. Clegane has had an unlucky time so far at Impact. He is currently on a 2 loss streak but has the skills and the confidence to change all that tonight.

My prediction: I think Clegane will be looking to prove the fans and his manager that he really does have the skills to climb the ranks and will take this victory tonight. Clegane by decision.

265+lbs Sewy Cide(2-1-0){1-0-0} vs "Oldman" Pops Mcgee(2-2-0){0-1-0}

This was a last minute match-up due to unforeseen circumstances, thankfully it's pretty rare at Impact but thank you to both managers for accepting a short notice fight.

Cide is a top boxer that is gathering a lot of fans and interest at Impact as they watch him climb the rankings wondering if he has was it takes to get to the top and challenge the top contenders. He didn't disappoint in his debut, he came out and within 40 seconds of the first round has his first victory in the bag taking home an extra bonus for KO of the night in the process.

Mcgee also made his debut in his last fight and made a great first impression with the fans but unfortunately for him wasn't able to convince the judges that he'd done enough. A lot of the fans to this day still think that was a robbery. Mcgee is also a talented boxer and proved he was more than capable of handling a ground fighter, keeping the fight standing for the majority of the fight but also defending well when it got taken to the ground. He did manage to rock his opponent at one point in the fight but unfortunately just couldn't get the finish. The "Oldman" appears not only to have talent but a lot of experience and it will be interesting to see how he fares against another great striker.

My prediction: This could be a tough fight for both guys. I think after seeing both their last fights, Cide has the better finishing skills and that just sways my decision. My prediction: Cide by TKO in round 3

The normal bonus of $2k for 'of the night' awards and for winning a 100% rated fight will still apply along with the new $5k bonus for the fastest finish (you must finish your opponent in under 1 minute to qualify, fastest finisher wins). The Finish in Style bonus of $5k will be for KO(Superman Punch) or Submission(triangle armbar).

"Lumber" Jack Silver (247679)

Robert Mazzuca, i hope you're ready for a nice brawl! I have been working very closely with the guys from Gorilla Warfare MMA to hone out my skills. I got nervous in my first fight and came in with a terrible gameplan, but since then i have knocked out my next 3 guys. You will be my first "real" opponent. You look like you like to stand and bang too. Good luck to you bro, but I'm afraid at some point your head will connect with my leg and it's "TIMBERRRRRRRRR...." for you.

Nothing personal :)

Impact MMA 33 review

205lbs Irvin vs Rush

Rush got an early takedown and kept control of Irvin nicely throughout most of the round. Rush attempted to get the win by ground and pound but Irvin’s defence held up well. In the 2nd round the tables were turned, Irvin took the fight in to the clinch - time to see what Rush was made of. Rush defended himself well and tried to take the fight back to the ground where he was comfortable, Irvin held on and kept trying to find a weakness but couldn't really take advantage of the situation. Irvin took the 2nd round comfortably. The 3rd and final round and everything to fight for. Rush came out on the attack and went for a takedown, it was unsuccessful and unfortunately for him they ended up in Irvin's terror try, the clinch. Rush got clipped by a knee which opened up a nasty cut. More knees followed and Rush began to tire A knee to the head had Rush rocked but he held on for a while longer until the punishment became too much for his defences and he went down in the 3rd minute. A brave debut fight for rush against a great clinch fighter. Irvin proves himself after his loss and is the no.1 contender.

Winner: Irvin by TKO(knees and punches) in round 3

170lbs Akhmedov vs Jones

Jones seemed to be the aggressor in the first round, he took Akhmedov down and looked for submissions only for Akhmedov to force a ref stand up. Jones still on the offensive immediately took the fight into the clinch. Akhmedov struggled to break the clinch and clearly was not happy about being tied up. The judges scored the round to Akhmedov but I think Jones should have taken that one. In the second round it was pretty much the same story, Jones got the takedown and began looking for submissions, Akhmedov skilfully switched and went in to full mount but was then just content to sit and control and Akhmedov took the second round. The 3rd round was more of the same but jones had a bit more control and really pushed Akhmedov around a bit more but couldn't quite find the opportunity to finish. A good debut by Jones who came out and wanted to fight. A tactically good but boring strategy by Akhmedov sees him pick up the win.

Winner: Akhmedov by unanimous decision.

170lbs Page vs Anderson

It seemed a cautious start by Page, he got an early takedown but was content to control and keep Anderson on the ground. After a ref stand up Anderson came forward on the attack. A nice combination drew blood above Page's eye. Anderson continued coming forward landing some good punches, Page used some good low kicks to control the pace of the fight and try and keep Anderson at range. The second round saw a lot more stand up, Page coming off slightly better of the two and landing a good amount of low kicks. Anderson was putting up a great fight but would have to win the next round to take the victory. In the final round Page continued to control the fight with leg kicks, Anderson was still looking to land punches but unfortunately for him he just couldn't find the target. Page caught him with an uppercut that had Anderson rocked and quickly followed it up with a vicious body kick followed by an amazing Superman Punch which earns him fight of the night and an extra $5k for finishing in style. A great fight by both fighters.

Winner: Page by KO (Superman Punch) in round 3

155lbs Friedlander vs Jakinek

Jakinek was definitely winning the stand-up game in the first round, coming forward with kicks and punches, Friedlander couldn't do much apart from defend himself as best as he could. He'd have to act fast otherwise he would be going down soon. And that’s exactly what he did, he managed to see an opening and successfully take Jakinek down. Once on the ground he totally took control of the fight, controlling Jakinek well and looking for submissions. At the start of the 2nd round Friedlander got an early takedown and this time Jakinek would not be saved by the bell. Jakinek defended well but Friedlander was just too much and eventually got the submission he was after. A good debut by Friedlander.

Winner: Friedlander by submission(triangle)

265+lbs Deeds vs Blunderskard

This was to be a bloody battle, Blunderskard suffered an early cut but he didn't let that have an impact on the first round. Both these strikers were really going for the win. It wasn't long before Blunderskard returned the favour and Deeds had a matching cut above his eye. These two fighters really slugged it out but it was Deeds that was getting the better of the fight, his punches seem to land with a little more accuracy. It wasn't long before Blunderskards cut opened even more and unfortunately brought a halt to his fight.

Winner: Deeds by TKO(cut) in round 2

170lbs Brown vs Ding Ow

Ow had a slight striking advantage but wasn't really able to take advantage of it as virtually the whole fight took place on the ground. Brown was trying to control form the top and land GnP while Ow was defending well and looking for submissions when he could. Both fighters were aggressive with both of them scoring takedowns at the beginning of the rounds. Brown defended well and didn't give Ow many opportunities to try a submission. Great defensive work by Ow who lasted the whole 3 rounds despite Browns GnP. The judges gave Brown the fight due to his dominant position and controlling. Brown went on to ask for a title fight, although I've no doubt he will become an excellent contender he still has quite a way to climb before he is within reach of a title shot.

Winner: Brown by unanimous decision

205lbs Balrak vs Grimsson

Both these fighters really went for it right from the bell. Both trading punches and kicks. Balrak seemed to want to take the fight into the clinch and was taking some good counter punches by Grimsson. Balrak started to land a few good kicks and then got the fight in to the clinch. Once in the clinch Balrak began to dominate the fight landing some great punches. Balrak then decided to break clinch, many thought this could be a mistake but it appears Balrak knew exactly what he was doing as seconds later he had landed a monster head kick that left Grimsson out cold and Balrak the winner of KO of the night.

Winner: Balrak by KO(head kick) in round 1

170lbs Dick vs Gronzy

Gronzy landed two great punches and looked for a second like he might be the one to control this fight. A few seconds later Dick had Gronzy on the floor, he tried for a couple of submissions and quickly realised that it wasn't going to work and switched to ground and pound. He was much more successful with this approach and after some accurate and heavy strikes it wasn't long until the ref had to dive in and stop the fight.

Winner: Dick by TKO(strikes) in round 1

265+lbs Clegane vs Thorensen

It was a cautious start by both fighters with neither fighter being able to take control. Thorensen took the initiative and got the takedown and began to throw some GnP. A small mistake quickly saw Clegane take the dominant position but Thorensen wasn't deterred and went looking for a submission. Thorensen clearly the more active fighter and was looking for a win. Early in the second round Clegane took control of the fight and moved in to clinch. From here he really was too good for Thorensen and began landing some good strikes. It wasn't long before the punishment was just too much for Thorensens defences, his hands dropped a little and Clegane obliged with a knee to the head knocking him out cold. A decent debut fight by Thorensen showing some good ground skills.

Winner: Clegane by KO(knee) in round 2

265+lbs Cide vs McGee

McGee showed some real class in his last fight with a lot of courage and determination. I expected more of the same in this fight but something clearly wasn't right. I'm not sure if he had just lost his focus or maybe Cide is just that good but McGee was in trouble from the opening seconds. He was rocked by a huge uppercut that sent him tumbling to the floor. He bravely got up and continued to fight for a good length of time but Cide just casually waited for his moment and then struck again with two massive body shots and then followed up by a huge uppercut which knocked McGee to the ground again. The ref had seen enough and jumped in stopping the fight. I'm sure we've still got more to come from McGee. Another impressive win by Cide.

Winner: Cide by TKO(strikes) in round 1

There were 4 fighters who picked up an extra $2k for winning a 100% rated fight, the money has already been deposited in their accounts.

Scott Page picked up an extra $5k for Finishing in Style with a superb Superman Punch.

Impact MMA 34 preview

to be held tonight at Hayashi's Lounge, London.

170lbs Daisuke "Duke" Takemura(4-0-0){0-0-0} vs Lucas Pierce(5-1-0){4-1-0}

Takemura joins from the East Coast Fighting League where he had reached the top and became the welterweight champion, he has now joined Impact MMA in search of a new challenge. He's a great ground fighter who prefers to ground and pound his opponents and is so far undefeated with a 4-0 record.

Pierce has had a similar amount of fights and has only lost once in his career when he fought for the title. Pierce is an excellent striker although his defences against ground fighters could be his potential weak spot, we will find out how he copes tonight.

My prediction: I'll have to side with Pierce, he has the power and the speed to take this one if he doesn’t get caught by an early takedown. Pierce by TKO in round 2.

170lbs Ken Masters(8-1-0){1-0-0} vs Samir Ait Yafelman(4-1-0){3-1-0}

Masters had an excellent debut in his last fight, scoring a victory against a great striker. Masters seems to be comfortable fighting in any area of the cage, and seems to adapt his game plan to every opponent and keep them guessing. Another victory here tonight could see him being given the opportunity to challenge the title holder.

Yafelman is a great striker with terrific KO ability. He has only lost one fight early in his career, which he then went on to avenge his loss and currently finds himself on a 3 fight win streak with all 3 opponents being knocked out cold. Yafelman doesn't seem to have any problem with stopping wrestlers or submission specialists so it will be interesting to see what Masters can come up with tonight.

My prediction: I think Yafelman's current form will give him the momentum to take another victory but Masters could easily prove me wrong. Yafelman by TKO in round 3.

170lbs "Peerless" Pernell Karl(4-1-0){2-1-0} vs Enrico Moya(3-1-0){3-1-0}

Karl is a talented boxer with only 1 loss to his name which was his debut at Impact. He has since gone on to take 2 victories in a row and is steadily making a name for himself as one of the best strikers in the division. Moya is another striker who suffered a loss in the early part of his career, probably just due to being young and first fight nerves. He has since had another 3 fights which he won all 3 inside the first round, 2 by vicious head kicks, so has gained his composure and is quickly becoming a house hold name amongst Impact fans. Karl has some great power in his fists and normally prefers to fight at a distance rather than taking the fight into the clinch which could also suit Moya and his lethal kicks.

My prediction: This could be a very close fight and could easily go either way. I will stick my neck out and say Moya by decision.

265+lbs Shane "Chaos" Delgado(5-0-0){2-0-0} vs Mark "The Hater" McCain(6-4-0){3-3-0}

Delgado is on a great run at the moment, he has had 5 fights so far and is on an impressive 5 fight win streak, 2 of which were here at Impact. He is a good all round fighter and has worked himself up the ranks and is now approaching 'contender territory'. This will be he his biggest test of his career so far as he steps in to the ring with one of the better fighters at Impact. It will be a tough fight but it will show if he's got what it takes to go up against the contenders.

McCain quickly proved himself to be a top fighter when he first joined the org. He has lost his rhythm a little since losing in his challenge for the title and was caught out by a couple of rising contenders. A win tonight will be the first step in turning his career around and gaining some much needed confidence to climb the ranks and become a top contender once again. His manager has done a great job of getting his morale back and he looks to be ready to put on a great show.

My prediction: Delgado is a good fighter but I think McCain will be too much for him tonight. McCain by TKO in round 2.

205lbs "2.0" Robert Mazzuca(2-1-0){2-1-0} vs "Lumber" Jack Silver(3-1-0){0-0-0}

Mazzuca is a talented boxer on a 2 fight win streak at the moment, a straight KO in his last fight will give him a lot of confidence going in to this fight. He's reported to have a granite chin and he might need it going up against his next opponent.

Silver is a newcomer to Impact and is currently on a 3 fight win streak. He has now joined up to challenge himself and see if he can take his career to new heights. He's an excellent Muay Thai fighter with KO ability. His manager claims he's not the brightest of fighters but I guess we will see if it's true tonight or whether it's a smokescreen laid down by his manager. This will be a great test for him in his first fight at Impact but also a great test for Mazzuca.

My prediction: This could go either way, both have good stopping power. I'll stick my neck out and go with Mazzuca by decision.

155lbs Theodore "The Bear Killer" Ruxpin(2-2-0){2-0-0} vs Osaka Niten Ichi(1-0-0){1-0-0}

Ruxpin has notched up 2 victories in 2 fights since joining Impact. So far we've only seen a display of his striking skills but he also has good wrestling technique and a purple belt in bjj although I doubt fans will get to see them used offensively tonight as he goes up against a better wrestler with superior bjj skills.

Ichi has had just one fight in his career at the moment, going up against another quality wrestler and coming away with a win by decision. I think Ichi will look for a clean takedown as early as he can get one to hopefully avoid the dangerous striking power of Ruxpin.

My prediction: Ruxpin has the striking power but could possibly be able to hang on or escape if he gets taken down. Ruxpin by decision.

155lbs Lex Layser(5-2-0){1-1-0} vs Geghard "The Lion" Karekin(1-1-0){1-1-0}

This fight looks to have all the ingredients for the making of a great ground battle. Layser is a submission specialist who has taken 4 of his 5 wins by submission, Karekin has only had 2 fights as yet and will step into the cage with superior wrestling skills. Layser has a proven track record showing his ability to win fights on the ground but I think he will have to be careful with Karekin tonight as he struggled with against a better wrestler in his last fight.

My prediction: A tough fight to call but I think Karekin's wrestling skill could see him pick up a win tonight, Layser could easily prove me wrong. Karkin by TKO in round 3.

155lbs Kyde "The Blade" Repooc(4-1-0){1-0-0} vs Steven "Lord" Regal(0-0-0){0-0-0}

Repooc put on a good show in his debut fight and displayed some good clinching ability and a big right hand. He has similar skills to his opponent tonight but has a slight striking advantage. His opponent Regal will have a small bjj advantage but as yet it is unclear if he will try to use it or look to fight on his feet. This should be a good fight and a good test of both fighters.

My prediction: As we have nothing to go on with Regal so far, Repooc will have to be the slight favourite. Repooc by decision.

155lbs "Crazy" Donald Duckke(1-2-0){1-2-0} vs "The African Tornado" Abedisis Mahamud(0-2-0){0-1-0}

Duckke picked up his first win in his last fight which seems to have down wonders for his confidence and may just have been exactly what he needed to begin to string together a few victories. He is slightly older than his opponent but has slightly better striking skills.

Mahamud is an ambitious determined youngster who is still looking for his first win. His first loss was to a superior ground fighter and at the time he just didn't have the defence to cope. In his last fight he went up against a striker and put on a brave effort that almost saw him to it to the judges but lost in the final minutes. His manager has done an amazing job with his morale and he'll walk into the cage with the best chance possible of taking the win tonight.

My prediction: I think Mahmud's determination and hunger for the win could just tip the scales tonight. Mahamud by decision.

170lbs Bang Wuzz(1-1-0){0-1-0} vs Herman "H.H.Holmes" Mudgett(0-0-0){0-0-0}

Wuzz is one of the youngest fighters in the org who has 1 win and 1 loss so far in his early career. Tonight he will be going up against an opponent with better wrestling technique but he should hopefully give us a glimpse of his potential and showcase his bjj skills.

Mudgett is an untested fighter with no history to go on. He has just had a change of management and will be looking to impress not only the fans but his new boss as well. Mudget has a small advantage in striking and has significantly better wrestling skills so it will be interesting to see which tactics he chooses to go with against a superior bjj fighter.

My prediction: His first fight and a new boss maybe won't provide the most stable of training environments and could lead to a few mistakes. Wuzz by submission in round 2.

The standard $2k bonuses for 'of the night awards' and for winning a 100% rated fight will apply to tonight's fights. The Finish in Style bonus of $5k will go to TKO(cut) or submission(RNC).

"Lumber" Jack Silver (247679)

Well Macuzza, i stepped into the cage with you on a 3 fight win streak which finally came to an end.

Although i am disappointed that i did not come home with the win, i must give respect. I guess i can only go back to my camp and see where i went wrong. Enjoy your win, you deserve it. But i will be back stronger than ever.
