Alright folks, a couple updated sets of Sucker Punch Pro Series rankings for you guys today! The Heavyweights were due for an update in the past week and now we've had enough fights come in over the month that we can provide a new set of rankings for the Welterweights as well.

As I've said every time, I'm not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but I do put a lot of effort in when looking at the fighters in the divisions. Don't agree? Let's Rock-Paper-Scissors for it! Haha.

I'm posting them here, but the current rankings for each division as they are established will always be available here: http://www.mmatycoon...=65096&p=910173

Enjoy!

The top 10 for Welterweight are all beasts in their own right. Stacked division

And...there is more coming. There are a couple guys in the division who very likely could be beasts right at the top of that list, but aren't even on the Top 10 rankings yet. When there is more than one or so of those guys in the division, I tend to hold off on ranking them until they get fights in with us! So hold onto your shorts boys!

Now, let's get to it!

Undercard Bout #1: Welterweight

Thanos Reigns Defeats John Diaz via TKO (Cut)

Donkey, Thanos decided to go out big in this one, with his manager having pretty much decided his fate even before this fight it seems. Knowing he might be auditioning for a new job, he went out and made the best of this opportunity against Diaz and brought home his second win in a row!

Diaz definitely came in with the intention of getting this thing to the ground as anticipated. He tried nineteen times in the clinch and thirteen out of it! Wow, thirty-three attempts, and yet Reigns was able to deny him each time! Exactly what Reigns needed to do to give himself an opportunity to win.

While Reigns wasn’t able to take advantage of Diaz too much when separated, instead focusing solely on preventing the takedowns and offering the occasional missed strike or two, he was much more effective in the clinch. Especially with the knees, landing forty-one on forty-one attempts to the head…and eight to the body! Wow…amazingly that didn’t end the fight via TKO or KO, but it did get the cuts going enough to bring this thing to an end via the doc!

Donkey, whatcha got bud…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Reigns wins the fight, but unfortunately is pretty far behind on development for his age. And that’s the reason he was sacked despite winning his last two fights. Diaz is 3-7 with this loss and 0-3 in his last trio of fights. Unfortunately, he is in a similar boat, aging up but falling behind in development. It may simply be a matter of time before his manager starts taking a very critical look at him.

Undercard Bout #2: Lightweight

Waampa Woodoo Defeats Ko Artist via Unanimous Decison

We thought Woodoo would be the one to take this one into the clinch but instead Artist was the one to instigate it regularly in the first round. It never stayed there long though and most of the round was fought boxing. It looked like this thing was coming to an end in the first when Woodoo landed a big head kick just after the four minute mark, but Artist, despite being knocked off his feet and clearly rocked, was able to recover.

The second round brought a lot more of the same, with Artist bringing the fight in and out of the clinch regularly, but never for long. Artist was going for constant head kicks in this fight outside the clinch but unlike Woodoo, who was bringing a more balanced attack that included quite a few head kicks also, was unable to land them. And then at about three and a half minutes into the second…it happened Donkey! Joy of joys, it’s been a while man! And it’s about time, because damnit..THIS…IS…Sucker Punch baby!...

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Woodoo lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Artist has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Artist and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Woodoo clearly had no cares in the world for how or where he landed his shots, and that one landed square in the undercarriage there Donkey! Ha! Artist got some time to recover and this thing went back to them going at it toe to toe again for the remainder of the round! The third round was more of the same, with just about the same level of activity from both, Woodoo clearly getting the better of the exchanges and racking up points with the judges en route to a decision victory.

Anything for us there Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Well, Woodoo didn’t make short work of this like we anticipated, but he sure put in the effort with some of those kicks landing nastily! Credit to Artist for being able to take a shot and bounce back, because he took a ton of them in this one! Heck, fourteen of them were head kicks alone, enough to take out most guys! But Woodoo landed much more than just those head kicks, and yet Artists survived till the end. Granted, his lack of morale prevented him from doing much damage or getting a game plan rolling, considering he landed only two leg kick and one head kick the ENTIRE fight. Lesson learned…maybe, I doubt it…but you don’t come to a fight unprepared, it seldom goes well! After this, Artist will be 2-5 and 27 years old, falling further and further behind his peers in skills. He’s going to have to sit down and evaluate his future I think as he has now gone 1-4 here at Sucker Punch. We’re looking for him to come prepared next fight and show us something, or it’s likely to be the end of this kid’s run.

Undercard Bout #3: Featherweight

Mickey DIsmantle Defeats Ripper Stallone via TKO (Strikes)

DIsmantle needed a big win to get back on track after a loss to Skywalker two months ago and then fighting to a draw with Ecce Homo. He got that big win via TKO in only fourty-six seconds against Ripper Stallone the other night!

Stallone made the expected moves to try to get this fight on the ground, but both attempts were repelled by DIsmantle while at the same time Mickey was able to land powerful shots with accuracy! One to the body to get things started and then four to the head…with a big hook being the fifth and that was all it took!

Over to you Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Well, that was short, sweet and to the point Hare, just like this fight! The fans loved it, with almost instant gratification coming from this fight and across the board it got a 100% rating. But who doesn’t like a devastating finish that gets you back to the beer cart and talking about the crazy stuff that just happened? DIsmantle, and his manager, will appreciate moving away from .500 with this win, while Ripper and his camp will be looking for a way to rebound from a loss that sends him to 2-4. Next month is another opportunity, prepare well boys!

*********

Undercard Bout #4: Lightweight

Bobolo Jubbly Defeats Cole Hotman via Submission (RNC)

Hotman went into this with the feet flying, throwing three head kicks to…well…kick things off! Two of those partially landed, one enough to cut Jubbly and that may have been the wake-up call Jubbly needed to realize he was in serious danger standing and facing Hotman. So, he redoubled his efforts to get this thing to the ground and with Hotman throwing so many head kicks early the opportunity was there.

Once on the ground Jubbly was in the driver’s seat. He immediately began working the options for submissions, flowing between kimura attempt to guillotine and back again without much success early. Hotman was squirming around, trying to find a way to escape and at the same time trying to distract Jubbly with small shots and strikes from the bottom.

Things looked back for Hotman when Jubbly transitioned to the mount, but definitely got worse when Hotman made a move to get to the feet and gave up his back! From there, it was only a matter of time as a couple attempts to lock in the rear naked later Jubbly was successful and Hotman was forced to tap!

So, what do you say Donkey...?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Pretty much called this one…Hotman came in with those kicks flying high, which is always a HUGE risk against somebody who wants you on the ground as it leaves you wide open for the counter or takedown when you miss. Sure enough, Jubbly got this to the ground and apparently the past month wasn’t enough time for Hotman to improve those grounds skills enough to fend off somebody of Jubbly’s caliber down there. Jubbly gets a much needed win to move back to .500 at 3-3 after losing three in a row. Hotman goes to 1-2 after taking losses in his first two fights here at Sucker Punch, both to grapplers. Next month, he’ll get a chance to show us what he can do against a striker and in the process get some time to improve his ground game in prep for all the ground guys in this org!

*********

Undercard Bout #5: Lightweight

Kira Yoshikage Defeats Robin Van Doen via Submission (Armbar)

Robin Van Doen almost had a new best friend in the ring bell. Almost. That friendship fell just one second short of becoming a thing!

Van Doen came out striking, missing it up with a couple head kick attempts and then a cross that didn’t land…and unfortunately, was wild enough that it left him open for the counter-takedown! Van Doen immediately offered up a submission attempt in the form of a triangle, but was unable to finish and from there it was a matter of Yoshikage using his superior ground skills to maneuver and plan out his own attack.

The expected submission attempts from Yoshikage started just after the two minute mark with him working the arm for an armbar and then an arm triangle, eventually settling on trying for a kimura. None of them were able to get him the finish he was looking for. After a bit more maneuvering, Yoshikage was able to score the mount and just one second shy of the bell, he was able to lock in a tight armbar and force the tap! If only Van Doen could have hung in there for one more second!

Any thoughts there Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

That’s the second time tonight we’ve seen a guy come in letting the high kicks go in a situation where they’re facing a ground specialist. In this case, it wasn’t the cause of the takedown, but it certainly could have easily been the case. I guess it’s an all or nothing strategy? Either way, another situation where once on the ground the other fighter, in this case Van Doen, was in some big trouble and clearly unable to match up defensively to stop the inevitable. Congrats to Yoshikage who takes advantage of the opportunity to get back to .500 at 1-1 in MMA. Van Doen will get his chance to work in his favorite areas of striking next month against Ko Artist and hopefully use that as a bounce-back opportunity while working on his ground defense over the next two months!

Main Card Bout #1: Sparring Bout

Ousmane Cisse Defeats Vito Taualai via KO (Punch)

For a quick little one round, three minute sparring match…at last, that’s what it was scheduled for…this one turned out to be pretty entertaining for the fans there Donkey! If not for it being a sparring bout, we probably would have awarded this the KO of the Night!

Taualai came into this fight already nursing a couple injuries. Perhaps that left him vulnerable, because despite being the more experienced fighter in the cage Cisse was able to pounce on him fairly quickly in this bout. He was cut almost immediately, likely simply a re-injury and Cisse continued to be the aggressor. Taualai started to show his experience by countering effectively shot after shot against Cisse but then the hooks were flying with Cisse first knocking Taualai down, then waving him back and finishing with yet another hook to the temple…leaving him in La La land!

Donkey, what else have you got for us…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Well, what did we learn here? Well, we learned that although Taualai has a granite chin, he also dropped about 25% of his morale with the loss. That’s something that can be concerning for a lot of managers, despite perhaps a good amount of learning speed to go with the chin. Sure enough, when we checked back today, we found he’d been set free by Optimal. Potentially a worthwhile pickup for somebody if they’re willing to have some patience and work a proper, aggressive game plan with him. Cisse has a good chin, and we’ll have to see how he handles losses in the future.

Main Card Bout #2: Welterweight

Ceedee Queen Defeats Andrey Nikonov via TKO (Strikes)

Wow, yet another fight on the night where the round JUST ABOUT made it to the bell, but….not quite.

I’m a bit shocked that within the first minute of this fight Nikonov was willing to take it to the ground against a fighter who definitely had the advantage there. Perhaps he figured if this fight might go to the ground anyway, he might as well be on top and have the advantage, keeping Queen from working the ground and pound? Nikonov even got a couple sub attempts in while down there but eventually Queen was able to control enough to get a ref standup.

Within a few moments of being stood back up, Queen decided it was his time to be on top and initiated the takedown this time. Once down, the brutal ground and pound game that Queen usually brings to the table kicked in and just over two minutes later the shots took their toll with Nikonov getting rocked and then the assault being stopped by the ref.

Donkey, have anything else…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

With the win Queen moves to 2-0 and is ready to see just how far he can fly up that ladder! Nikonov will regret the loss which moves him to 4-4 rather than 5-3, stepping him back a little bit in the standings. He’ll face a striker in Barbosa next month and have his chance to reverse course and get back on track!

*********

Main Card Bout #3: Welterweight

John Fuller Defeats Sean MacCarthy via TKO (Strikes)

Ooh, you nailed this one Donkey! Right on the button, pretty much the same way Fuller nailed MacCarthy right on that button! This one should have been a fantastic fight. Unfortunately, MacCarthy came in unprepared. We could see that ourselves, but Suzy was able to confirm it with an anonymous source from within the organization as well. and yet, despite that the fight still grabbed Fight of the Night honors. This fight lasted into the third round which was a lot longer than we anticipated given the situation and makes you wonder what MacCarthy might have been capable of if he was ready to go and focused!

This thing started out with some boxing, but then was taken into the clinch before the end of the first minute by MacCarthy. From there, Fuller used the opportunity to pull guard and get the fight to the ground and then reverse to get top position. From there Fuller started with the sub attempts and at the same time, we saw this battle flip between both Fuller and MacCarthy having the top position a few times. MacCarthy was successful in working some ground and pound when able to get the opportunity, while Fuller attempted to do the same but was held off from landing much by MacCarthy.

The second round was almost a carbon copy of the first, again with MacCarthy clinching and then Fuller pulling guard. Again with the sub attempts and reversals, filled with successful ground and pound from MacCarthy but Fuller being denied. In both rounds though Fuller was able to get enough strikes in from standup prior to the takedown and then initiate the takedown, getting the nod from the judges despite MacCarthy getting the better of him on the ground with the strikes, which weren’t doing a lot of damage in the judges’ eyes.

The third came our way, with the bell announcing the start and Fuller starting to work on striking from standup. MacCarthy got caught with a big uppercut that rocked him within the first half minute and then, after MacCarthy failed a takedown attempt, Fuller was able to unload a huge overhand right that sent MacCarthy to the floor and let Fuller end it with strikes!

Donkey, what can you add…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

With this win Fuller gets two in a row and moves back to .500 at 3-3. He’s going to be challenged to try to do this again next month in a showdown with Kahdi Mandinos who defeated Pietro Marchionni earlier in the week via a TKO Slam! That should be a great fight! For MacCarthy, the loss pushes him to 4-6 rather than evening things up at 5-5. With two losses in a row, he’s really going to want to come back strong after a solid month of training and camp preparation for next month, which, after we spoke with his manager Milo Ortiz, seems to be a renewed focus! Let’s hope he comes in full of energy, full of focus and confidence, and with a game plan that’s a winner!

Co-Main Event

Welterweight Bout

Konrad Wagner Defeats Baldomir Barbosa via Unanimous Decision

Well look at good ole Barbosa pulling a fast one, almost, and doing exactly what Donkey said at the end of his Pick when he mentioned that perhaps Barbosa would try to utilize that blue belt and take it to the ground. He did do that after two and a half minutes in the first but once there Wagner was able to control and prevent much from getting going.

Prior to that takedown though they came out from the bell boxing, Wagner with a varied attack from the hands and feet and Barbosa mostly focused on striking with the hands…and trying to clinch up. Wagner was getting the better of the exchanges and Barbosa had a history of going to the clinch and winning the war there, so it was no surprise that after a short period of boxing Barbosa did just that.

Unfortunately for Barbosa, Wagner came into this fight ready to fight in the clinch, and not only handled Barbosa well there, but gave better than he got. He was landing close to 50% of his strikes in the clinch and doing a significantly amount of damage to Barbosa’s stamina…and head!

The second round included a lot of boxing right up till the last half minute. At that point Barbosa got it into the clinch again, but wasn’t able to find an advantage there either, once again. Coming out of the round Wagner had clearly won two rounds and Barbosa was going to need something big in the third.

Barbosa immediately took it into the clinch in the third, determined to work some magic there or get the fight to the ground again and try to gain an advantage there. He finally got the takedown just before the four minute mark but once there wasn’t able to get much going and the round ended with Wagner again exerting his will and dominance.

Donkey, pretty decisive win via decision eh…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

The clinch is usually a happy place for Barbosa where he can impose his will and sap it from the other guy. Tonight, that wasn’t the case as the young Wagner was able to impose his own will in Barbosa’s kitchen. A pretty convincing display there from Wagner with being able to go into the other guy’s wheelhouse and come out on top, and not by a little. Being that there is a bit of a gap and downtime for the champ in the division before his next anticipated title fight, and being that this win brought Wagner to five in a row, this was convincing enough to give him a shorter notice title shot several weeks from now while we await the result of Vovchanchyn/Diaz which will determine the next Top Contender! For Barbosa, a disappointing evening that will leave him at .500 and looking to make a big statement next month against Andrey Nikonov!

Main Event

Lightweight Bout

Maximus Furioto Defeats Guy River via Submission (Guillotine)

Guy River was able to fight off the ground game of Jubbly last month. This month he met a foe in Furioto whose ground game wasn’t so easily overcome apparently!

The takedown occurred before River ever had a chance to figure out what was coming. Bell…takedown! And then the sub attempts…oh boy the sub attempts! First Furioto went for a leg…but couldn’t get it and went back to guard…then another shot at the leg…again, abandoned and back into guard…and then…yeah, Donkey, you guessed it…going for that leg! What’s with Furioto and legs man?!? Seriously, he’s like a horny chihuahua that just won’t quit! This time River had to roll like a madman trying to escape, which he managed to do but ended up with Furioto right back in his guard again!

Donkey…I’d love to tell you that Furioto left that damn leg alone at that point. But…well, that would be like trying to tell that a bear doesn’t shit in the woods man…and here’s a hint…they do! And sure enough, Furioto went for that leg a couple more times! I mean, this guy, he’s a real leg man Donkey! On the fifth attempt to go for a leg, River finally managed to escape…and here is where the critical mistake happened…rather than make a break for it to the feet, he ended up on top.

Now, that sounds like an improvement eh? Well, I think not, because at least when Furioto was on top, and obsessed with that leg…the fight was still not finished. From the bottom though Furioto was immediately able to snag a guillotine as River left his head down a little too low when he came in on top…and boy, was it sunk in tight and this bad boy was ALL OVER before River even had a chance to figure out what to do up there!

Well Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

River was doing a nice job handling himself down there, given the awful position he got into early in this fight. But man, ground guys of this caliber are just so dangerous, and one little technical mistake and they’ll make you pay for it. When River scrambled to the top there, he wasn’t as clean and technically good as he needed to be, and he fell right into a huge mistake with that guillotine! Congrats to Furioto on seizing the advantage and ending it when he had the chance. With that he moves to 8-4 and his new manager proves he can continue with Furioto’s success on the ground in this Sucker Punch debut. For River, he drops to 1-2 and will be looking to work his way back to .500 next month once he finds out who his next opponent will be. That’s still up in the air as we’re looking for a good match!

Maximus Furioto trained under John Danaher. That's why he attacks the legs and goes through the pins like that. Glad to see my boy continuing to dominate after he left my camp.

I see Fanatics is back to regular prices. Glad I took advantage of the Covid discounts earlier this year.

Sucker Punch Preview

Sucker Punch Pro Series 13

Hello Sucker Punch fans! Can you believe that this weekend marks our Six Month Anniversary as an org? Wow, time has flown, but damn if it hasn’t been a great ride with these great managers along with us!

I’m Hare Rumpler along with my partner and analyst Donkey “Dan” and Suzy Sucker Punch, our amazing media correspondent. This weekend we’ll be at Schooners Bar in Sydney for all the fun and excitement! It’s a bigger venue than we normally use, so I’m calling on all our Sucker Punch faithful to come on out for a big night of fun, let’s show Sydney what happens when the Sucker Punch fans come out to party baby!

Once again for this event we don’t have any belts on the line, but we sure as hell do have some fights that will directly affect who’s fighting for the belts in the near future! The Welterweights are in action, the Featherweights are there to rock and we even have representation for our Heavyweight and Lightweight divisions! There’s no lack opportunities for some big finishes and crazy action, so without further delay, let’s hear from our sponsor and merchandise partner and then get to the good stuff!

http://mmatycoon.com/images/company/logo/1584375781SWN.jpg

Our fantastic and respected sponsor is Shadow Warrior Nutrition! Many of you already know them as the providers of Shadow Warrior Tea 160Q, THE energy loss reduction supplements! For those of you who aren’t in the know on that, you should be, because this is the way you keep your fighter training more often and not taking sessions off to try to keep his energy above 90%! If you aren’t using this supplement, hurry over and check them out today, you will not be disappointed!

Now, let's get to it!

Undercard Bout #1: Sparring Bout

Anton Matilla (0-0-0) vs. TBD (0-0-0)

Our first fight of the evening will be a little single round, three minute match between two of my own new guys Donkey. Right now, we know that Anton Matilla will be involved. For his dance partner, well, we’re still waiting to see who shows some promise from the kids we’re brought in to take a look at this week. We’ve been having some issues finding a second kid who seems to have any sort of head on his shoulders for this thing! Haha.

Anyways, we’ll be looking for the normal, you know, make sure these kids have a decent chin or some KO power, but certainly not the whinging bleeder types or those that sit around reading comics rather than studying their ground transitions, etc. You know, fighters, not friggin’ wanna be pretend warriors who’d be better off bagging groceries…assuming they won’t get papercuts on the bags that cause them to bleed out!

Donkey, whatcha got bud…?

Donkey’s Pick: Nothing to see here.

I don’t make predictions for the sparring bouts, and I’m certainly not going to get involved when you won’t even tell me who the second guy is yet Hare! Haha. Good luck, hope they’re not total knuckleheads over in camp this week!

*********

Undercard Bout #2: Welterweight

Weston Hodkiewicz (4-2-0) vs. Mister Lee (0-1-0)

Alright Donkey! Could it be? Could we have a card full of guys who come in with everything in order, ready to get it on and give it everything they have? Well, we’ll find out as the night goes on, but this is a hell of a start with Hodkiewicz and Lee both doing it right!

This will be Lee’s Sucker Punch debut and only his second professional fight. But that certainly doesn’t mean that he can be taken lightly by Hodkiewicz, as Lee comes in with quite an impressive set of skills. He has remarkable boxing, mediocre Muay Thai, Superb wrestling and a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu. His one and only fight to date was about eight months ago, so there’s really not much that can be taken from that as it was a QFC test fight. About the only item of value from that fight is that we know he has a granite chin…which is no small thing!

Hodkiewicz does not come in without his own strong toolset to work with. He has proficient boxing, respectable Muay Thai and wrestling and a brown belt himself. He’s 24 years old, so he has four years on Lee. For the most part he has shown he loves the submission game, having won his last two via kimura and triangle, with the kimura coming here at Sucker Punch against Rayne Dame. He’ll be tested in this one against a fellow brown belt in Jiu Jitsu who has slightly more advanced wrestling.

What do you think Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Lee via TKO (Strikes)

Although Hodkiewicz is older, Lee may have the slightly better skillset on the feet. If he decides to keep it there and can prevent takedowns, he may be able to dictate this fight. However, if it goes to the ground, this really cold become anybody’s to win, and we won’t know until we see the action whether Lee would focus on submissions, ground and pound or a little of both. Given the slight edge in skills, we’re going to go with Lee in this one, but it’s a tough call!

*********

Undercard Bout #3: Featherweight

Akara Kongsangchai (1-2-0) vs. Ramon Rabbit (5-4-0)

Another two here who look like they’ll be all set and ready to go by fight night Donkey! A little low on energy, but they should be good and rested by the day of the fight.

Rabbit has had a rough go in his last two fights, falling to Nagashima and then Michael Aalto via submission. For this fight, he'll be out there to see if he’s improved his ability to prevent the takedown and dictate where the fight takes place, while trying to finish it on the feet as he did in his Sucker Punch debut against Jun Sekii and then again a couple fights later against Adrian Petrov. Historically when it does go to the ground though against a submission artist, things don’t go well for Rabbit.

Rabbit’s opponent, Kongsangchai, also did not fare well against Aalto when he met up with him in the cage two fights back, also falling via submission. Although Kong has a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu, I don’t expect he’s going to prefer the ground fight either and will want to get back to his winning ways from prior to joining Sucker Punch. In this bout, both men will have a chance to stand and bang without worry about defending against submissions on the ground…most likely.

Over to you Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Rabbit via TKO (Strikes)

Kongsangchai may surprise us in this contest and if he’s worked on his ground game at all may decide that that’s the area of advantage for him in this one against an opponent who has always shown the ground as a weak spot. I don’t anticipate that will happen though, and if they stay standing it will come down to who can dictate whether the fight takes place in the clinch or not. In the clinch, Kong will have the advantage, but outside it the advantage swings over to Rabbit. And Rabbit won’t be a slouch in the clinch either though. Given those advantages, I have to lean towards Rabbit in this one.

Undercard Bout #4: Welterweight

Red Crow (2-2-1) vs. Niki Geo (6-3-0)

Both Crow and Geo also come into this fight later this week ready to go and Donkey, I’m beyond happy with the trend here for this card and these kids all coming in ready to give it their best! Awesome stuff!

Geo is really looking for a rebound fight here against Crow, as ever since his debut with us, which he won, he’s stumbled against tough competition in Vovchanchyn and Barbosa. Those losses were both in separate areas, with Vovchanchyn scoring a submission and Barbosa winning via TKO standing. Geo amassed the majority of his winning record with five QFC wins prior to joining us at Sucker Punch and has yet to show that he can win outside the QFC consistently. This is a huge opportunity to turn things around and start the process of demonstrating that he can! Geo is a boxer and specifically a Muay Thai specialist with superb wrestling. We’ll see if he uses those skills against Crow to get a solid win on the feet.

Crow has proficient to exceptional skills on the feet, but also has strong wresting with a purple belt in Jiu Jitsu. He’s comfortable going at it on the feet with the ability to land some strong, potentially fight finishing shots but also enjoys dishing out the strikes and punishment on the ground. He’ll likely want to get this to the ground where Geo is less comfortable, establish top position and work the ground and pound. With a loss to Kribb Furgesson in his last fight, Crow too, like Geo, is looking at this undoubtedly as a chance to turn things around. Both men should be extremely hungry for a win!

So, what do you say Donkey...?

Donkey’s Pick: Crow via TKO (Strikes)

Veidt, Geo’s manager, has been a bit hit and miss lately and you have to wonder if he’s been fully able to focus on giving his fighters the best go. Honestly, that’s about the only edge I can see in this fight, as this one is extremely balanced and could go either way. If Veidt didn’t get a chance to really strategize for this fight and prep his fighter in the training sessions leading up to it then Crow is likely to get the better of him in this contest.

Undercard Bout #5: Lightweight

Frank Carey (2-1-0) vs. Francois Oosthuizen (5-0-0)

Well, here we go Donkey, two more that are set and ready to go at it full force, I like it! I could get used to this Donkey! Haha. I’m guesing maybe we don’t have to keep mentioning the prep thing going forward on this card and can just get to the good stuff, that’s some awesome shit Donkey!

This will be Oosthuizen’s Sucker Punch debut, and he comes in with a big time record up to this point at a perfect 5-0! Even more impressive Donkey, only one of those fights is from a QFC bout! The rest are all from over at BFC and were against solid competition. Martin O brings a kid into the cage this week who is very, very solid across the board with superb boxing, respectable Muay Thai, exceptional wrestling and even a little bit of Jiu Jitsu with that blue belt of his! Oosthuizen doesn’t mind standing and boxing, but the real work gets done once he moves into the clinch. So hint…don’t get into the clinch with him if you want to walk away with anything other than a loss!

Frank Carey came into Sucker Punch 1-0 from RRFC, but then lost his debut against Valery Bokov due to a submission. He was able to bounce back against Montesh Dominguez for a big TKO victory and is intent upon extending that into a streak this week against Oosthuizen. Oosthuizen is going to have to rely upon his wrestling and that blue belt of his to fend off Carey, as there’s an extremely good chance that Carey will want to get this fight to the ground, establish himself on top and attempt to rain down the strikes from there. That’s just what he does!

Any thoughts there Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Carey via TKO (Strikes)

Ah man, this isn’t even fair asking me to pick between these two very different yet similarly skilled fighters! This all comes down to whether Carey can succeed with the takedown…and stay on top…or whether Oosthuizen can prevent that or control once down there if it gets to the mat. I’m literally flipping a coin here on this one Hare, that’s how much I really can’t decide here. So, it seems I’m going with Carey with the TKO on the ground!

Main Card Bout #1: Featherweight

Michael Aalto (3-0-0) vs. Yellow Belt Casey (3-1-0)

Michael Aalto and YBC are about as closely matched as you can get Donkey! This should be an absolutely stellar fight! Aalto has the size advantage, being nine centimeters taller and a few pounds heavier. He’ll also have the wrestling advantage by a small margin. On the other hand, Casey will have the boxing advantage by a very similar margin! Both have brown belts in Jiu Jitsu and all of that just sets this up as a monster matchup to start up the Main Card for the evening!

Casey started out his career with J. W. Hardman in a QFC Tournament. Later, he caught on with Aylib 2.0’s camp and joined up with Sucker Punch, scoring his first win last month against Adrian Petrov via submission. As a matter of fact, all three of his wins so far have been via submission, so it’s easy for us to see what this kid is all about!

Aalto is 3-0 in MMA and 6-2 overall if you include his grappling career in the TWGC. His three MMA wins include on in the QFC prior to joining Sucker Punch and then wins over Akara Kongsangchai and Ramon Rabbit once arriving here with us at SPPS! Those are some quality wins over very strong opponents. All of his wins have been via submission as well, so you know what Donkey…

Submission Battle time!! Or, will one of them go for the shot in standup beforehand and try to end it early? Who knows, but this is going to be fun!

Donkey, what else have you got for us…?

Donkey’s Pick: Aalto via Submission (Armbar)

This just isn’t going to get any easier for the card this week is it?!? Being that this fight likely ends up on the ground, I’m going to lean towards the guy with the advantage grappling. And that would be Aalto with his slight wrestling edge. That may be the difference maker in ability to get into a position to take advantage and get that submission! But, don’t be surprised if this goes the other way, or even to a decision! I think it doesn’t though, as these two are too skilled with submissions…one of them is going to catch the other and walk out claiming to be the submission king after this match!

*********

Main Card Bout #2: Welterweight

DJ Costune (4-2-0) vs. Chaz Campbell (5-3-0)

Another top quality fight on tap here Donkey, Costune and Campbell should bring some big time fireworks to the cage this week!

Campbell came into the org 2-1 and then went on a three fight tear after joining us. However, he’s hit a bit of a snag over the past couple fights with TKO losses to Kribbson Johansson and Konrad Wagner. Both very talented, quality fighters, so while a loss is never great, it’s not something that can’t be bounced back solidly from when it’s at that level. Campbell is primarily a boxer, although despite not having developed much official Muay Thai skill he doesn’t seem to mind getting into the clinch a bit. At 27 years old, his manager Topnotch Tyler is trying to see just what Campbell’s got in the tank and how long he’ll be able to hang in there and keep the dream alive.

Costune is well-rounded with respectable boxing, Muay Thai and wrestling and a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu. His last fight was a title fight opportunity against Ronnie Bass that didn’t go his way, with the fight ending via knockout just shy of two minutes in. He’s won via submission in the past, but more often than not his approach is to get in there and throw down. Being that he has only ever lost to Bass, twice, he still has to be considered a force to be reckoned with and this week is the first step to setting the record straight that he’s still at the top of the game in the Welterweight division!

Donkey, what are you thinking…?

Donkey’s Pick: Costune via KO (Punch)

Costune will have a very tough fight on his hands here, but should be determined to come back and show why he was in position to challenge for the title. Campbell will have an opportunity here to show that he’s not sliding out of the picture as he ages upwards towards thirty years old. However, if he does lose, obviously that will be the question that comes into play.

Main Card Bout #3: Heavyweight

Steve Norton (6-0-0) vs. James White (5-0-0)

Get ready Donkey, we have one of our biggest fights of the evening coming up here with this next bout between Steve Norton and James White! And I don’t just say that because these are two of our Heavyweights either. I say that because this fight features two undefeated fighters who are both young and full of long term potential. On top of that, they have balls…big ones!...with James White picking up and accepting a short notice fight with a very short period of downtime in between this and his last one, and at the same time, Norton switching from having prepared for one fighter, then having that fighter go MIA and switching gears to instead accept this fight…because damnit, he just wants to get in that cage and bang!

Norton is a Muay Thai fighter with strong wrestling to compliment his grappling in the clinch. Expect him to come out, try to pull White in close and dance for a bit as they exchange pleasantries…or strikes, as the case may be!

White is a well-rounded martial artist with competencies in all areas, including a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu. He’ll work the clinch or box if needed, but eventually expect a takedown attempt from this man and then potentially a few tries for submissions.

Donkey, what can you add…?

Donkey’s Pick: White via Submission (Armbar)

This is a big time fight with perfect records on the line. I’m dying to see how this thing plays out Hare, because regardless of who wins, somebody is improving an already stellar record. Both are 27, so while young in the world of MMA and training, they started out at a later age than some and come in ready to rock, as you see from their records, but at the same time, with a sense of urgency in that they need to win and win as much as possible in the time they have. This will be a serious fight for both, and whoever wins will be on the fast track to proving that maybe they get a shot down the line before they get to an age where they start to fall behind other, younger fighters!

Co-Main Event

Featherweight Bout

Kurt Cobain (5-1-0) vs. Kaoru Nagashima (3-2-0)

This next one is a biggie Donkey with huge implications in the Featherweight division! It should be an awesome fight and is very worthy of the Co-Main Event! And given the opportunity that they’re being presented here, it’s fantastic that they’re both coming in fully prepped and ready to rock! That makes us perfect on the evening so far when it comes to that, and damn, that makes this group of managers and fighters heading into the even this week just plain awesome!

Cobain and Nagashima will go at it in this contest for the chance to become the Top Contender and get a shot at the title. Make no mistake about it, that is a HUGE thing at this time, in this division, because this is a stacked division with a crowd of up and comers all starting to climb their way towards being able to make a case for contendership! So this is the time to take advantage, before it becomes even tougher than ever to get that opportunity!

Nagashima is the crazy man with a plan…we just don’t always know what that plan is in his crazy assed head Donkey! He had an opportunity last month to potentially become top contender, but lost a big bout with Andy Veidt, who, unfortunately, sits waiting for a new fighter to step up because the champ has gone MIA and we had to strip the title from Count Dankula. When things go his way, Nagashima will get you on the ground and do that nasty little trick where he shows people that indeed, parts of you can indeed be bent in directions that others say they can’t! However, when he gets stuffed and finds himself unable to get to the ground, he can run into rough times, as he did with Veidt. Undoubtedly he’s either been working on varying his approach offensively, building up his strike defense, or developing even stronger skills to get your butt on the ground! We’ll find out for sure this week!

Cobain is a striker. He’s won KO of the Night twice and Fight of the Night two other times. And for good reason…the fans know that when he steps into the cage, there’s a good chance fireworks are going to happen! He’s coming into this fight with a VERY strong case that he should be the next Top Contender and have the opportunity to fight Veidt for the title, with wins back to back against Julian Concrete and then Hiki Antsa. This man has only lost once, and that was to Hiki Antsa three fights back, which he avenged last month. All of his wins have been via TKO or KO, with most occurring within the first two minutes of a fight!

Donkey, you have a call here…?

Donkey’s Pick: Cobain via KO (Punch)

It’s worth noting that Cobain’s one loss to Antsa was via a submission, so the opportunity is there for Nagashima if he can find a way to exploit it. And that’s why whoever wins this fight will have certainly earned the opportunity to go on and compete for the Featherweight championship. I’m going to lean towards Cobain on this one, only because Nagashima was exposed last month in his attempts to win against a striker who didn’t want to get taken down, and unless he’s fixed a couple things, the threat that he could get caught before getting it to the ground is still potentially there. But, if it does go to the ground, Cobain could be in serious trouble!

Suzy had a chance earlier this week to speak with Kurt Cobain in between training sessions…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Kurt, a huge fight coming up for you this weekend with an amazing opportunity to go after the title sitting there just waiting to be snatched from your opponent. How are you feeling in the lead-up to this fight? Extremely confident, or are there any areas of concern against a fighter like Nagashima?

Kurt Cobain: This is gonna suck if he gets me on the ground. I don't like dancing with Cobra's, so I guess this is to Nagashima. I'm going to KO you in the first round to make damned sure you keep your hands off my junk. No hippy hug luvin' going on in this one!

Suzy Sucker Punch: Well guys, Kurt certainly seems to know what it’s going to take to get the job done this weekend, and what the risks are against a guy like Nagashima! Now that he knows what he needs to do, we’re going to get a chance to see him go out there and try to follow through!

Main Event

Featherweight Bout

Jack Sparrow (11-1-0) vs. Warran Peace (7-3-0)

Last but not least we have a couple of beasts in…well, the Featherweight division. Seems kind of strange to call Featherweights “beasts”, doesn’t it Donkey? But they are, kinda like nasty little chihuahua’s or yorkies!

Both of these fighters have been in position to be considered contenders in the past. And still may be in the future. Frankly, Sparrow has been offered the opportunity before but considers himself just a step behind the top tier younger kids, more of a gatekeeper to “getting there”. Peace was in position to win the title in his last fight but fell to our missing in action, now-former champ, Dankula. So frankly, if Peace can prove himself able to get past “gatekeeper” extraordinaire Sparrow, he may find himself able to make strong case that he should be fighting for the Top Contender spot again VERY soon! However, as I mentioned in the last fight’s preview, there is a real sense of urgency, as there are strong fighters coming up through the ranks behind these guys and they are doing just a little bit more than nipping at their heels!

This is the type of fight that takes guys with records like 7-3 and 11-1, who have fought most of the mid-tier and surrounding guys…or better…, and determines if they really belong up in the Top 5 or not. A guy like Peace, who has only lost to the champ and a Top Contender, can certainly solidify his status with a win like this. An 11-1 guy like Sparrow, who is undefeated here at Sucker Punch, taking down a former Contender like Peace, makes the case that he’s not ducking top competition and can pick and choose his fights as gatekeeper. So this is absolutely a “come to Jesus”, prove you deserve it fight!

Well Donkey, who will it be Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Sparrow via TKO (Strikes)

Dillon Weber, manager for Warran Peace, does not have his fighter fully prepared for this fight, and that’s disappointing. In a big way. His morale is only at about 50%, and that’s going to hurt. Both of these fighters have the same approach…get to the ground, gain the dominant position, and pound the living hell out of the other guy. My guess…Peace is not going to have the confidence and desire to push through and keep that position on the ground, and that will allow Sparrow to get a big win here.

Employment Opportunity!

For anybody interested...and boy, do you have to be the type who decided that a career in accounting or something was "exciting" to be interested, hahah...One job that I simply have found I CANNOT keep up with in addition to all the other duties with running the org is the statistician/record keeping job. So, if you like that sort of thing, and you'd be willing to update our records once a week, I'll pay you handsomely for it! Just holler at me ya'all!

Congrats to all those who fight tonight, I know it's been a long week waiting without a Wednesday event but at the same time, it was a much needed break for me as we go about 7 events in a row these days with two a weeks until every 8th event is separated Saturday to Saturday. Usually by that time, I really need the once a month break, it allows me to recharge the batteries and get ready to go again!

Now, if any of you have any comments, whether your guy is in the event tonight or not, and want to have them written up and reported as part of the review on Saturday, feel free to send them over! Suzy, Donkey and I will get them worked into the piece!

In the meantime, I want to congratulate the entire card for the most part, minus maybe one guy who is a little off, for coming into this thing ready to go, amped up (energy) with focus and confidence (morale) on high! Awesome job by this crew, and considering we don't have a title fight on this card, I can't tell you how much it means to see the rest stepping up and being ready to make this a great night of fights!

Also, for anybody interested...and boy, do you have to be the type who decided that a career in accounting or something was "exciting" to be interested, hahah...check out the post I'm going to put up before this one. One job that I simply have found I CANNOT keep up with in addition to all the other duties with running the org is the statistician/record keeping job. Take care everybody and good luck to those fighting tonight!

Post Event Cheap Shots

Sucker Punch Pro Series 13

Hello, hello, hello again Sucker Punch fans! I’m crazy happy to be back after spending a day under the weather here at Casa de Rumpler and wow…I’m gonna make a confession here for you folks! Yeah, without a title fight on the line, I was a little concerned behind the scenes that this event was going to suffer in ratings and potentially struggle to bring the action and excitement everybody has gotten accustomed to. But...holy hell did these boys come through in a BIG way!

Not only was this card full of surprises, with only four decisions all night, and even some of those were hella battles, but I believe this card was easily one of our top ten rated, if not in the top five for the org since we bought it and turned it into our beloved Sucker Punch Pro Series! So hell yeah, our boys brought it and they rocked it over in Sydney!

Oh, and yeah, if you didn’t already know…I’m Hare Rumpler along with my partner and analyst Donkey “Dan” and Suzy Sucker Punch, our amazing media correspondent. So we’re going to jump right into this thing and check out all the top notch action from two nights ago! So let’s get to the good stuff!

Undercard Bout #1: Sparring Bout

Niko Ahonen Defeats Anton Matilla via TKO (Strikes)

Our first fight of the evening brought us some surprise action that really got the crowd jumping and rewarded those who got to the arena on time and were ready to see the action pop!

This was a sparring bout between two of my own new kids Donkey, and while a lot of times managers will send their kids out there to dance and slap at each other for three minutes, I frankly told my boys to get out there and make it a show, get this placed jumpin’! Sure enough, Ahonen and Matilla did just that as they were unleashing it right from the bell.

Matilla came out the more aggressive of the two, but Ahonen was far more accurate with his counter pounches. This one didn't ’ake a lot, as just fifty seconds into the round Matilla got caught by a huge uppercut from Ahonen that dropped him and ended the evening for both fighters, Ahonen as the victor though!

Donkey, whatcha got bud…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

A fun and entertaining little fight, surprisingly it was the guy who showed the granite chin and NOT the guy who showed he had a big right hand who did the finishing! Both great hidden finds for the fighters though, and bonus, Matilla, who lost, showed that along with that big right hand he only dropped less than 11% morale. Woot! That’s a keeper right there, and if long term Ahonen shows good confidence as well to go with that granite chin then he’ll also be a keeper, despite being the slower learner of the two.

*********

Undercard Bout #2: Welterweight

Mister Lee Defeats Weston Hodkiewicz via Unanimous Decision

Our second fight of the evening was a tightly contested one Donkey!

Hodkiewicz really wanted this fight on the ground so he could work that submission game we talked about. He managed to get it there just under a minute into the first round, but Lee was effective in holding Hodkiewicz in his guard and controlling, preventing Hod from making progress and getting opportunities. Eventually the fight was forced back to the feet by the ref and the action returned to boxing, where Hodiewicz was holding his own, at least enough to get the points for the round.

The second round saw Hodkiewicz once again looking for opportunities for the takedown, with Lee starting to get the better of the exchanges on the feet. They went in and out of the clinch a few times, but overall the action was mostly stalled when in it with both controlling. Hodkiewicz was only able to get it to the ground with a few seconds left in the round and Lee proved himself the more effective in the second overall to make it a round a piece!

The third round saw these two just stand and box after Lee was able to stuff a couple takedown attempts in the first minute or two after the bell. Again, Lee while nobody seemed to be in trouble or close to being finished, Lee was able to be more effective overall in the round and the judges handed him the round, and with it, the victory!

Well Donkey, anything else…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

It seems my intuition was right on in this call from the preview, where I stated that Lee may have the slight edge he needs to pull out the win in this contest. Sure enough, this was a close one with the rounds split two to one for Lee. Hodkiewicz takes a disappointing loss that puts him to 4-3 overall and 1-1 here at Sucker Punch. Lee gets a solid win in his debut for us and moves his record to 1-1, with the prior loss being under different management and also in a QFC test fight. So essentially, 1-0 more or less. Can’t wait to see both in action again and with yet another chance to improve their records!

Suzy was standing by and had a few moments to speak with Weston as he exited the cage, clearly disappointed…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Weston, clearly not the result you were looking for tonight. It felt like the fight may have gone in a different direction than you hoped for. Is there anything different you felt like you could have done to change the outcome in this one?

Weston Hodkiewicz: Hats off to Mr. Lee for a very strong performance. It was a good fight, a tough fight, the kind of fight I hoped for when I signed with Sucker Punch. My only regret is not utilizing my jiu jitsu a bit more on the mat. Sometimes I get a little too excited by the idea of a fire fight, a real brawl. Those kinds of fight get my adrenaline pumping. And that's where I credit Mr. Lee. He got me so excited about my strikes that I forgot to try for submissions. An unfortunate mistake that really angered my coaches. In fact, they made me fly commercial back from Sydney while the rest of them took the private jet. It was humbling. The airplane food was really bad. You should never eat fish from Spirit Airlines. What a mistake. Anyway, I'm rambling now. What was the question? Ah, forget it. I'm late for dinner at my mom's house.

Suzy Sucker Punch: Thanks for your time Weston, and good luck next time out. Hare, please don’t ever schedule me to travel on Spirit Air please, thanks!

Undercard Bout #3: Featherweight

Ramon Rabbit Defeats Akara Kongsangchai via Unanimous Decision

Another one that went to the judges here Donkey and frankly, a little bit confusing as well.

Kongsangchai spent the first round playing a little game of “Do I like the ground, or do I like the clinch? Or do I just wanna box?” He took the fight to the ground within the first minute, but then didn’t like being in guard so got back up. Then, about a minute later, he took it into the clinch…and Rabbit was able to break free one strike later. A lot of boxing in between but with Kongsangchai trying to clinch up quite a bit throughout. Rabbit was getting the better of the exchanges overall, with a varied attack of strikes and kicks.

The other two rounds were very similar. Kongsangchai clearly came out with a game plan that was heavy on trying to clinch. But, the part that was confusing, and why I mentioned it early here, was the often he didn’t stay there very long, so his corner must have told him to break often, but that was a lot of energy expended, and lost striking opportunities in the process, to try to get to the clinch and the abandon it again. And honestly Donkey, it feels like that may be the difference maker in this one, as Rabbit was able to score just enough throughout in a contest that, frankly, some could argue Kongsangchai might have won a round or two in.

Over to you Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways

Perhaps things just weren’t going the way Kongsangchai planned that caused the strange decisions in the cage, but yes, it was a bit of a perplexing way the strategy worked out. Ultimately Rabbit was able to win this one on the feet and getting back to .500 with a chance to move forward and go back to back after this with wins has to be a feel good spot for him. For Kongsangchai, he’s now 1-3, with his three wins here at Sucker Punch all being losses to Aalto, Ebedi and Rabbit. He’s been using the same strategy of clinch/break clinch in succession since his first fight at BFC against Bisping, who he managed to snag a decision victory from. You can get points that way, but even that victory was a close one in terms of strikes landed and he had just enough of an edge, mostly when he was in the clinch, to pull it out. His approach may have to evolve or he is going to struggle, more, most likely.

Undercard Bout #4: Welterweight

Red Crow Defeats Niki Geo via KO (Punch)

This one right here, was an absolutely INSANE fight Donkey! Boy, if we thought the opening fight of the night, that sparring match between my two boys got the crowd going…well, this is how you KEEP them going baby! For an undercard fight, this one was a crazy good one and frankly, is vying for KO of the Night! But…as you watched this one develop, maybe it didn’t head quite where you, me, Donkey or anybody else thought it was going!

At only one minute and thirteen seconds, this fight never really had a chance to develop into the type of boxing contest with some clinching from Geo thrown in and maybe some good ole fashioned ground and pound if it got to the ground, something Crow is known for! Nope, instead, this thing got downright mean and aggressive right from the start, and turned into one angry warrior going after the other and seeing who could punch the other’s lights out!

I’ll let this fight speak for itself…and then, you can see where the WHOA!!! Moment kicks in! They exchanged shots early, and then about thirty seconds in, this sequence happened:

Geo waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Crow. Geo feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Crow sprawling to the canvas! Crow rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Geo finish him?! Crow is rocked!

Now, if that wasn’t enough, with Crow rocked and Geo looking great in this fight, a few moments later, with Crow still rocked, we were given this beauty of action…!

Crow lands a head shot. Geo drops Crow with a beautiful combination! Crow stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Geo is looking for the KO! Oh Crow is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

And that’s where it gets a bit nuts…CROW recovered! He dodged a hook from Geo as Geo was trying to finish this thing and put a nail in the coffin…then offered a jab to back Geo off and sidestepped another shot, all enough to amazingly give himself time to get his legs back and recover! Talk about some heart while Geo was out there headhunting trying to finish it all up !

That’s when things took a complete left turn in this contest…hell, it did a full 180! Crow was sitting back there, just waiting…and Geo was coming forward looking for the kill still…which led to this…

Crow appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body. Geo walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush but Geo is rocked! Crow cracks Geo with a brutal left hook that knocks him out cold! This one is over in a flash! Game over!

Can you believe that stuff Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takaways:

From being completely rocked and quite frankly, desperate to hold on and not get knocked into next week, to coming back and landing the “Goodnight Baby” shot! Wow! Yes, that was one hell of a fight with these two headhunters taking no prisoners whatsoever. For Geo, this has to be one that has you sitting in the locker room shaking your head for the rest of the evening trying to figure out just how things went wrong so fast, with so little notice…or memory of it happening. He moves to 6-4 with three losses in a row, and that’s tough to swallow on a loss like this. And he still is seeking that win which will help him validate his QFC record. For Crow and his camp…well, you don’t get many fights that send you up onto the top of the cage with the hands up in pure joy like this one did! Now at 3-2-1 he’s in the black and I’ll be damned if nobody will ever question this man’s heart!

*********

Undercard Bout #5: Lightweight

Francois Oosthuizen Defeats Frank Carey via Unanimous Decision

Oooh, I think this is your first wrong pick of the evening Donkey!

Oosthuizen came into this fight knowing it had to stay on the feet or things could get ugly fast. We also suspected he would use the clinch quite a bit in his attack. Being that Carey would want to be on top for the ground and pound if he could get it to the ground, it was unlikely Carey was going to try to pull guard from the clinch much, instead still attempting takedowns via trip or otherwise.

The first round went pretty much true to plan. Oosthuizen took it to the clinch early and Carey started in on the takedown attempts. Oost, as I’m going to now call him out of convenience Donkey, was able to deny Carey and they were back to boxing, that is, until Carey took it to the clinch as part of his plan to get it to the ground as well. The clinch off and on and takedowns continued through the round, with Carey becoming more and more frustrated no doubt with Oost’s ability to deny him!

This fight saw Oosthuizen as the clear winner when it came to striking. Carey was only able to land one head punch the entire fight when separated and five of twelve from inside the clinch. As opposed to close to sixty shots overall for Oost. In the second round, Carey was finally able to change his prospect some, and go the fight to the ground! And then we got the opportunity to see Oosthuizen’s defensive skills in action, as he was quickly able to escape and find his way right back to his feet, something that had to be demoralizing for Carey after all those attempts to get it down.

The process of Oosthuizen striking, Carey getting an occasional takedown, and Oost escaping back to the feet was repeated several times. The third round held more of the same, with another takedown and another escape early in the first minute. Then, the fight moved to the clinch and about two minutes in Oosthuizen rocked Carey with some head shots that looked like this thing might be over! Carey refused to cave in though and fought through, getting his legs back and managing to see out the round, despite clearly being on the losing end with the judges. A big show of heart and drive though for Carey!

Any thoughts there Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

As you said Donkey, a huge show of personal drive and an unwillingness to give in for Carey who took a lot of shots and even recovered from being rocked by Oosthuizen in the third. But this was an easy call for the judges. Oosthuizen showed some amazing skills at controlling and escaping from the ground, very impressive. It shows us why his record was 5-0 without many QFC fights, and now, he has a nice gleaming 6-0 record! He gets another solid one like this it will be hard to deny him a top contender shot sooner rather than later! For Carey, he goes to 2-2 and 1-2 with Sucker Punch, and certainly isn’t helped by his manager, Dave Ashbourne, apparently having exited, stage left. So his days with the org unfortunately may be over.

Main Card Bout #1: Featherweight

Michael Aalto Defeats Yellow Belt Casey via Unanimous Decision

Well Donkey, it was no secret that this fight was going to the ground. And no secret that the sub attempts would start not long after that! You seemed unsure whether this would end via submission or not, although you suspect it would, but didn’t discredit the idea that it could go to a decision. That certainly was a great call on this contest between two skilled ground specialists, as indeed, they did push each other the full three rounds!

The play by play guys seem to have some prognosticating ability going on down there these days as just before the minute mark they commented on how Aalto had been working ois takedowns in recent sessions, and sure enough, Aalto proceeded to put on a demonstration for them! With the fight on the ground, he began the sub attempts with Casey trying to thwart him at every turn. Casey was in trouble on his back but able to stay alive and fight off four attempts before he finally got the chance at one of his own.

Aalto was given credit for the round and then, in almost a duplicate performance, won the second round as well, scoring two takedowns and pushing the action with sub attempts solo this time as Casey was unable to maneuver himself into position to attempt any.

The last round saw Casey boxing well in standup and scoring points until Aalto once again got it to the ground. From there, it was pretty much more of the same from the first two rounds, with Casey still doing a fantastic job of fending off Aalto’s sub attempts, but really, never getting himself into position to do anything himself, which was very suprising.

Donkey, what else have you got for us…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Casey won the last round, but it was too little, too late as he needed to win one sooner or finish it. Casey’s defense on the ground was stellar, but Aalto’s takedowns and then ability to stay on top and also control Casey from getting any opportunities was also top notch. Amazing demonstration by two ground specialists who are normally able to finish guys, and that just goes to show how well skilled these guys are on the ground that they couldn’t in this one! This one hurt a little for Casey, as he moved from 3-1 to 3-2 and, a bigger issue, had not one but two managers ditch him now! He’s fairly well skilled though, so I suspect he’s going to be picked up. It was the morale though Hare, his confidence just dropped entirely too low after the loss and that’s most likely the reason he was dumped by Aylib this time. And probably the reason he was dumped by J. W. Hardman as well. For Aalto, he’s in prime position to make a claim at a shot at top contender status with three wins in a row and a 4-0 MMA record!

Main Card Bout #2: Welterweight

Chaz Campbell Defeats DJ Costune via TKO (Strikes)

One has to question Donkey…did Campbell come into this fight determined to make a statement and specifically to throw your words back in your face? Because I’ll tell you this, even if he didn’t intend to do that, he certainly did! You questioned his slide, whether he still had it, whether he was aging towards thirty and could still get it done. Well, he went in there against a former top contender…and BAM! Made this a fun one!

Donkey had picked Costune to win, to bounce back from his loss as the challenger and show why he was still supposed to be up there. Unfortunately, this boxing match, and that’s exactly what it was as they stayed toe to toe and went at it, did not go that way for him!

Costune was heavy on the combos in this fight, but Campbell was able to avoid all of those. Campbell wasn’t landing an extremely high percentage of this shots, but those he was landing were landing with some power and he managed to catch Costune with a little over a third of his combos, four total. Campbell was making good use of most of his strikes doing especially well with the counters, but the combos were really doing some damage when they landed!

And it was one of those at the end that finished this thing in dramatic fashion!

Costune falls off balance throwing a combination and Campbell counters with a huge uppercut, hook combination that drops Costune! The ref has seen enough - he's dived in to stop the fight! Brutal strikes by Campbell!

What do you have for us Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Well, if we thought Campbell was reaching the end of his rope at 27 years old, he certainly showed us that that couldn’t be further from the truth! This boy came out with focus and passion, with a powerful counter strategy that worked to perfection. Now 6-3, he’s bounced back from two losses prior and can move himself up in leaps and bounds with a solid win against another quality opponent next month. For Costune, this loss sets him back a step but he’s a true competitor and no doubt he’ll double down on the focus and come back strong!

Main Card Bout #3: Heavyweight

James White Defeats Steve Norton via Submission (Armbar)

In the preview, we had said that White would work the clinch or box, if necessary, but that eventually you should expect the takedown attempt and then for him to go for a few subs. Well, nix that “eventually” part, but not for the reason we expected! Instead, Norton came out and was the one who faked the overhand shot and then went for the takedown, getting it…something he may have regretted shortly after!

I expected Norton to try to work the clinch in this contest and do his damage there. Instead, this fight found him in close still, but on the ground trying to work the GnP! He got a couple shots in, but in the meantime seemed to forget the hint we gave about White potentially being very dangerous with some submission ability.

White was getting busy from the bottom, first trying for a guillotine and missing it, which should have been a sure wake up call for Norton that danger was lurking…but then, two attempts later, White was able to lock on an armbar…giving Donkey the call right on the nose! Just under two minutes, and White was walking out of the cage the victor for the second time in just over two weeks!

Donkey, anything else buddy…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Why, would you look at that, I got another right! What’s that make me…I dunno, 6-1 or 5-2 on the night? Not bad! White was hyping himself up and apparently the crowd didn’t enjoy it too much, but hey, they got a heck of a show in that sub and from a guy who had balls to come in and take the fight on short notice! He moves to an outstanding 6-0 while Norton still holds onto a very solid 6-1 record.

Co-Main Event

Featherweight Bout

Kurt Cobain Defeats Kaoru Nagashima via KO (Punch)

Well this one certainly didn’t last too long Donkey! And yes, I know…you got this one right again as well. There, ya happy? And yes, yes, I see, you called the KO Punch, want a cookie now? Or just some hay to shut that big, gloating mouth!

At just under one minute, the action was fast and furious in this fight, but the fans loved it! Cobain came out from the bell swinging, as Cobain tends to do, and landed two good solid shots before ole crazy eyes Nagashima over there decided that was enough of that and got the takedown!

Cobain had clearly worked on his ground game though and surprised us here handling the takedown well and ensuring he got Nagashima fully in his guard. Now, here’s where the mistake was made…Nagashima abandoned his advantage there, I suppose not liking being fully in guard…and boy, was that ever a bad thing to do! Back on the feet, Cobain went to work …and clearly determined not to let that ground crap happen again…ended it quick like!

Nagashima drops his hands momentarily and Cobain takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Nagashima is rocked! Nagashima walks into a picture perfect straight right hand from Cobain! He's gone down face first to the canvas, unconscious before he even hit the floor! Ohhhh. My. Goodness! That boys and girls was a beautiful knockout! Give that man a biscuit!

Donkey, how about that stuff…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Cobain had even told Suzy in the preview commentary that it would suck if Nagashima got him to the ground. So you have to imagine how friggin’ elated he was when Nagashima did that, but then let him back up! Wow…Cobain, not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, took care of things from there and bam, the fans got a fun finish to talk about a bit! With this win Cobain becomes the clear Top Contender and will get a shot to go at it with Veidt and re-establish the belt since Dankula’s disappearance. For Nagashima, well, it looks like he's going to have to go have a talk with his camp about why he chose to get up!

Main Event

Featherweight Bout

Jack Sparrow Defeats Warran Peace via TKO (Strikes)

As Donkey said in the preview for this one, there were two main points to keep in mind for this fight. First, they both like to get on the ground and go after the rough stuff. Second, Peace’s manager didn’t have him prepared for this fight, letting him come in with low morale which was likely to affect his confidence and ability to dictate and control the fight, specifically his position when on the ground.

Well, that all played out! Sparrow got the early takedowns and mixed up a LOT of ground and pound with a few sub attempts. He wasn’t able to finish in the first, but did enough damage that it mattered. In the second, Peace actually initiated the takedown, and then managed to get some shots in and work on Sparrow a bit. Lacking the focus and attention though, he got reversed and then it was all Sparrow again for the remainder of the round. Again, Sparrow did more than enough to win the round.

So they went into Round 3 with Peace desperately needing to finish at this point. He went for the takedown, but again, that morale not being where it should be reared its ugly head and he lacked the dedication to get it done. Instead, Sparrow then got the takedown and with it top position. He started raining down the abuse, and sure enough, even Peace can only take so much of that before finally getting rocked and pounded into the mat!

Well Donkey, good call on your part there eh…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Sparrow gets the win and goes to 12-1, a great record and against a top competitor here, although a slightly unprepared one. We keep trying to talk Sparrow into going for the championship but he just doesn’t feel he has what it takes to do so and defend it. So instead, he remains the gatekeeper to make others prove they deserve to get there. At 27 years old, Peace is going to have some work ahead of him now after this loss to prove whether he belongs back in the top contender or title picture. He’s lost to Veidt, who will compete for the title late this month, as well as Dankula, the former champ. The gatekeeper has now ousted him as well, so we’ll have to see where it goes from here for Peace. Being fully prepared would help a ton in the future!

Thanks all! You guys are obviously being entirely too kind. We try our best, and to even be thought of as a top ID restricted org would be flattering and humbling, but yes, when it comes to Org of the Year honors clearly there are some big ones out there that carry the torch for us all! And kudos to them!

Sucker Punch Preview

Sucker Punch Pro Series 14

Welcome back Sucker Punch fans, I’m Hare Rumpler along with my partner and analyst Donkey “Dan” and Suzy Sucker Punch, our incorrigible media correspondent. We’re back at the good ole Bondi for this mid-week card and it’s time to see what we have in store as we prepare to rock Sydney with some pulse pounding action tonight!

For the first time in a few cards we’ll have a belt on the line as well tonight, as Aleks Kuznetsov defends his newly acquired Light Heavyweight Champion status against challenger and Top Contender Jacob Parker! If that’s not enough, we’re going to have Igor Vovchanchyn and Diego Diaz going at it to determine the next Top Contender for November in the Welterweight division, taking on the eventual winner of the upcoming Ronnie Bass and Konrad Wagner title fight!

We’ll have five other Light Heavyweight bouts on tap as well as another Welterweight fight kicking off the evening and single Middlweight and Featherweight fights sprinkled in as part of the Undercard.

No reason to delay here, let’s hear from our sponsor and merchandise partner and then get to the good stuff!

http://mmatycoon.com/images/company/logo/1584375781SWN.jpg

Shadow Warrior Nutrition will be on hand at the event this evening, and I cannot say enough about how much we appreciate having them as our merchandise partner and sponsor here at Sucker Punch! Do yourself a favor…better yet, do your fighters who you spend so much time developing and preparing a favor…and stop by the stand to grab some of their Shadow Warrior Tea 160Q. It is literally the best energy loss reduction supplement money can buy and will keep your fighter in the gym training rather than sitting days out resting! Stop on over there today, you will NOT be disappointed!

Now, let's get to it!

Undercard Bout #1: Welterweight

Alex Driver (2-5-0) vs. Third Tourn (4-5-0)

We’ll start off the night with two kids who really need a win to get things going in the right direction…but, may not be fully prepared to put their best foot forward tonight. Driver is the better prepared of these two with his morale about 15-20% off. Tourn on the other hand is suffering in both the morale and energy departments, and that never bodes well. If he rests today in the final session before the fight, he may recover some, but at over 25% low on energy he won’t fully recover in time.

Driver is 2-5 overall, but 2-3 in MMA with two of his losses having come in KT early in his career. Driver has mediocre boxing but superb Muay Thai and proficient wrestling along with a blue belt. He’s historically a clinch monster, going into and out of the clinch frequently in his fights.

Tonight Driver will face Third Tourn, who is 1-4 under current management. With two back to back losses, including a QFC loss in his most recent, Tourn will be desperate to make the most of this chance at Sucker Punch. Some would say that at 28, time is ticking and he needs to find his way soon. Tourn also loves the clinch. He has respectable boxing, but abysmal Muay Thai, so when he does clinch, he’s leaning on his wonderful wrestling and grappling skils. With a white belt in Jiu Jitsu we probably won’t have to worry about this fight going to the ground, at least not by Tourn’s doing.

Donkey, whatcha got bud…?

Donkey’s Pick: Driver via TKO (Strikes)

Driver is more prepared and for me that’s the ticket to getting a win. Certainly, strategy and skills, recent training, etc. all play in, but preparation can be the make or break. Tourn isn’t horrendously unprepared, but it’s enough to make a difference, especially with the energy and two guys who probably plan to get into the clinch together and attempt to wear each other down. Both need to focus on preparation for next month though, a win isn’t an out or free pass on preparation!

Undercard Bout #2: Light Heavyweight

Julian Rourke (1-0-0) vs. Ian Justino (3-2-0)

Alright Donkey, moving on here we have two Light Heavyweights in the second fight who are both making their Sucker Punch debut tonight! Also, bonus, both are pretty much ready to get into this thing and give it their best! Justino is only a tad off on his energy and morale. The morale will likely not be fixed, so he’ll be 10% off which shouldn’t be that big a deal. The energy for both should be there by tonight assuming they are resting.

Justino is a balanced fighter with competent boxing and Muay Thai, mediocre wrestling and a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu. Admittedly, Justino has struggled to find his way and a strategic approach that gets it done with the skills he has. He’s stood and boxed in some matches, others attempted to go to the ground and strike, with the occasional submission attempt thrown in, but typically in each had limited results. Tonight will be fun to see if he had found a way to decisively use a strategy to his best advantage.

Justino will face Rourke, a standup fight this evening and in doing so will have to watch his chin as Rourke can strikes with the best of them if his fight with Bill Watson, his only to date, is an indication. He has wonderful boxing, strong Muy Thai and proficient wrestling, but a white belt so submissions and the ground game are probably not going to come into play other than fending off Justino if he takes it there.

What do you think Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Rourke via TKO (Strikes)

I’m hoping that Justino will figure out an approach that works for him and show signs that he’s going to have a big future. However, until he shows it in a fight, I have to go with a fighter who seems to have the feel for what he wants to focus on. For that, it’s Rourke in this contest. Justino can change all of our minds with a big win tonight though!

*********

Undercard Bout #3: Light Heavyweight

John Fury (1-0-0) vs. Ross Rhea (4-3-0)

John Fury is another fighter from our Light Heavyweight division who is making his Sucker Punch Pro Series debut tonight! He fought his one and only professional fight back in February in a QFC match and now has his eyes set on Ross Rhea this evening!

Ross lost a contest with Jacob Parker last month in a bid to become Top Contender and get a shot at the title. Falling short and failing to take advantage of that opportunity is sure to have put a bit more of a fire in his gut for this fight! Rhea will stand and box or use his clinch skills depending upon the situation. He’s got wonderful boxing and remarkable Muay Thai with proficient wrestling, so you can bet your ass he’s proficient no matter how you want to dance, so long as it’s on the feet!

We don’t have a ton of information to work with on Fury obviously with only one fight in, but we do know that in his fight with Ben Krueger his striking was on point, landing just about every shot, and making each one count with something behind it! And that’s no surprise, given he showed he has KO Power in his hiddens in that first fight.

Over to you Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Fury via KO (Punch)

This is a really tough one to pick, not something I usually struggle with early in a card like this! Fury showed KO Power in his hiddens and I’m going to ride that as a potential KO in the making tonight! If so, the fans will lose it with a contest ending via such a decisive final shot early in the evening. Rhea should NOT be dismissed so easily though, he was up in a Top Contender battle for a reason, and if you forget that, you can pay the price…in the form of an L!

*********

Undercard Bout #4: Featherweight

Hiki Antsa (3-2-0) vs. Mike Ehrmantraut (0-0-0)

Make no mistake about it folks…this fight may be on the Undercard, but it’s definitely one you should all be watching! This is absolutely a “see if Hiki Antsa belongs solidly up in the Top 10, if not Top 5” fight for Antsa tonight. He’s currently 3-2, but his two losses have come to Dankula, our former champion, and Cobain, who he beat previously and then dropped his most recent fight in a rematch to him…in a fight that determined who would be Top Contender.

I needed a good fight to see where Antsa stands and were left with Ansta’s next partner going MIA. What is an org front office dude to do?!? Well, reach out and entice somebody to come in for a big one fight deal, that’s what! So I reached out and found Mike Ehrmantraut, managed by the very talented Kelly McGrady.

It’s important not to dismiss Mike due to him having a fresh record about to be broken in…this man is a talented fighter with wonderful boxing, mediocre Muay Thai and wrestling and a purple belt in Jiu Jitsu. Now, what is he going to do tonight in the cage? I have ZERO idea Donkey! Box? Go to the ground and GnP? Go for subs? I really don’t know, but I do know that we’re going to learn some things about him, and so is his manager as we’ll see if he has a good hidden or not, and what his morale might be like if he does fall short.

This will also be interesting given that purple belt. Antsa has ok stand up skills, but his real bread and butter is on the ground with a combination of striking and submission attempts there. His wonderful wrestling is backed by a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu, so the grappling chess match could be about to begin!

So, what do you say Donkey...?

Donkey’s Pick: Antsa via Submisson (Armbar)

You seriously expect me to pick a winner…based upon one guy having never fought before? Well, I’ll go with what I know then. And I know Antsa is a cool, tough customer. There are unknowns with Ehrmantraut, and they could be great unknowns, or not. As you said Hare, we’ll find out, but for now, I’m going to go with what’s in hand rather than what’s behind Door #2.

*********

Undercard Bout #5: Middleweight

Jin Yi (3-1-0) vs. Kiryu Kazuma (2-2-0)

Well, you guys are definitely in for a treat tonight over at the Bondi Outdoor Arena because we’re just finishing up the Undercard and yet we have ANOTHER big time, fantastic fight on tap here with Jin Yi and Kazuma! Both are fully ready to go, and I expect some big action in this one tonight.

Managed by Yabai’s own Mikey C, Jin Yi is making his Sucker Punch debut tonight after having won three straight fights in the QFC under current management. His only loss was with his prior manager. This man is a submission specialist with a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu combined with strong wrestling. On the feet, he’s solid, with respectable boxing and proficient Muay Thai. His intentions are clear though, get it on the ground and make things bend in the wrong directions…for the other guy!

Kazuma, managed by Mattias Lundgren, is a wonderful boxer with strong Muay Thai and proficient wrestling who also makes his Sucker Punch debut in this fight. So two new kids, two warriors looking to make a big entrance into the Sucker Punch world! Formerly in the Gamma Development League, he had two wins and then a loss there after a QFC loss early in the career, putting him at 2-2 currently. Now, what this man decides to do tonight Donkey…well, your guess is as good as mine! This man is a bit insane, he boxes, he goes in and out of the clinch non-stop, hell, he’s a takedown monster who goes to the ground, tries for subs and such, and then stands back up on his own repeatedly. He’s an active fighter, if not a bit of a nut who thinks this is a Catholic mass…up…down, sit…stand….down…hahaha!

Any thoughts there Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Yi via Submission (Kimura)

Yet another difficult pick here for this card tonight Hare! Here’s what I don’t know…what the hell Kazuma is going to do! Does that mean he won’t win? Nope, doesn’t mean that. But what I do know is that if history holds true, he’s going to take this fight all over the place if he can. That’s assuming that Yi doesn’t dictate it to the ground early in the fight. And if it goes to the ground early, or ends up there after bouncing all over…Yi will had the advantage at that point.

*********

Main Card Bout #1: Light Heavyweight

Sacrificial Lamb (5-2-0) vs. Harold Kerzner (2-2-0)

Another two guys ready to square up and get it on Donkey! Oh, wait, one of them is my boy, yeah, that’d be a bit embarrassing if he wasn’t ready to go wouldn’t it?!? Haha.

Lamb was ousted as the Light Heavyweight champion last month and now takes his first fight that isn’t either part of the Sorter Series tournament or defending the title! The pressure is off!...or is it? He’s got wonderful boxing, with only mediocre Muay Thai, respectable wrestling and a purple belt in Jiu Jitsu which, historically at least, has been for defense purposes. He gave Aleks Kuznetsov a decent run, but couldn’t avoid the one big shot that took him down and lost the belt for him.

Kerzner won his first two fights here at Sucker Punch, and in his career, here at Sucker Punch via submissions but then has lost via TKO’s in his past two. He’s going to want to bounce back, and will likely want to do that on the ground again, as he has sensational wrestling and a purple belt in BJJ.

Donkey, my guess is one of these kids wants it on the feet, the other wants it on the ground, and it’s going to come down to who can get what they want!

Donkey, what else have you got for us…?

Donkey’s Pick: Kerzner via Submission (Armbar)

Kerzner comes into this fully ready to go and that’s a huge boost for him. That sensational wrestling of his is going to play in huge both in the clinch game as well as being able to control on the ground. I’m thinking this probably gets to the ground Hare, and unfortunately, once it does your boy will likely be in trouble unless he can once again pull out the magic and defend big time while down there as he did against Thai and Fury!

*********

Main Card Bout #2: Light Heavyweight

Wille Thai (4-1-0) vs. Tito Slamcock (4-2-0)

Another fun one coming up here between our Light Heavyweights, Tito Slamcock and Wille Thai! Both are strapped in and ready to go, energy and morale topped off, so this one is just going to come down to who can get the better of the other guy!

And this will be your classic battle of two worlds…a striker extraordinaire in Slamcock against a ground, and specifically, submission specialist in Thai! Slamcock has ended his prior two fights in stunning fashion. He’s technically a Muay Thai artist, and has used the clinch extensively in the past, but has never really been able to effectively land his strikes there. Instead, most of the damage occurs once out of the clinch with those punches and kicks!

If Thai had any thoughts of trying to change it up and stay on the feet, perhaps taking Slamcock on in the clinch as he’s been ineffective there, he only needs to look at the lessons of Titus Fury before him. Which should teach the lesson that…that’s not a good idea. Yes, the damage didn’t happen in the clinch, but Slamcock made Fury pay for staying on the feet. Granted, Fury also had low morale, while Thai is ready to go and focused, confident, solid in his determination to get this done. I still think he takes it to the ground though!

Donkey, what are you thinking…?

Donkey’s Pick: Thai via Submission (Kimura)

You definitely have to be afraid of Slamcock’s ability to end it in one big, devastating shot. But, if you can avoid that, he’s more or less a one trick pony…ok, two, fists and feet! If he can’t land the big shot, he’s not particularly accurate and doesn’t tend to land a lot of them. My guess would be that Thai comes in countering and this ends up on the ground, where Slamcock will be in some trouble.

*********

Main Card Bout #3: Light Heavyweight

Hemmo Karhu (4-1-0) vs. OJ Simpson (3-0-0)

Well, this is a big one folks! Simpson is 3-0. Karhu is 4-1 with four wins in a row now. This right here, ladies and gentlemen, is the battle to determine who will be the NEXT Top Contender and the one who gets to take on the winner of Kuznetsov/Parker, our Main Event of the evening! So both of these kids have to be feeling some of the nerves, but all of the excitement too as they get ready for tonight and prepare to head into that ring, the potential for the BIG stage just one win away!

Make no mistake about it…Karhu’s game is on the ground. Yes, he has some skills in standup, but nothing compared to what he can get done with his wrestling, and specifically, his brown belt in Jiu Jitsu! His first couple wins in fights two and three for him came via submission. But of late he’s been finishing things off with the ground and pound and winning via strikes from the top position. That doesn’t mean he won’t keep you on your toes and lower your guard with a submission attempt still though when you get too comfortable fending off the strikes!

Simpson is a polar opposite in the striking and approach department. He’s a beast on the feet with remarkable boxing, wonderful Muay Thai…not that he clinches much…and superb wrestling so he has the grappling to try to prevent the takedowns or control if it happens. So far, nobody’s managed to take advantage of him in that way! Instead, he’s been a KO machine who wears you down with brutal shots that just don’t stop. He’s not into kicking you like some little girl either, no…this man is all about standing in front of you and believing he can knock your head off before you can his!

Donkey, what can you add…?

Donkey’s Pick: Simpson via KO (Punch)

It’s very difficult to pick against either of these guys as they both come to the table with nothing but perfection in the recent past! Hell, they only have one loss between them, and that was MONTHS ago. If this goes to the ground, Karhu can get this thing and get it good. But Simpson’s ability to control and abuse you in the meantime is a scary thing, so we’re going with that, and then the big shot that ends it! The fans should absolutely be ready to see this one, don’t miss it while getting a beer man!

Co-Main Event

Welterweight Bout

Igor Vovchanchyn (3-2-1) vs. Diego Diaz (8-3-0)

An awesome contest coming up in the Co-Main event tonight between these two Welterweights, I can’t even begin to tell you all how happy I am that both are set and ready to go! I wouldn’t have expected anything else from these two fighters and these managers though!

Vovchanchyn is a literal beast for a Welterweight and once you get past an early loss during the Sorter Series tournament in the second round to eventual champion Ronnie Bass, he’s pretty much been unstoppable! Red Crow almost did it, taking him to a Draw three fights back, but Niki Geo and Kribbson Johansson, both very talented fighters, couldn’t. And Vov has proven he can get it done…and will find a way, via submission, decision, KO, whatever it takes man! He’s got skills across the board…but when I say that, usually it means somebody is balanced, but not necessarily highly skilled in any area. Not so for Vov, he’s got proficient boxing, wonderful Muay Thai, superb wrestling….oh, and you damn well better not forget about that brown belt, because his preferred method of trying to finish you is on the ground via submission!

Now, the question is though…will Vovchanchyn actually risk the ground tonight though? Yes, that’s his wheelhouse, but, Diaz comes into this fight with almost no standup game to speak of. Instead, he has remarkable wrestling and a brown belt of his own in Jiu Jitsu…and also a nasty habit of submitting people…as he’s done in his last four fights in a row, and eight overall in his career! Obviously, for Diaz the fight MUST got to the ground for him to get the win. But for Vov…why chance it? I think he stays standing tonight folks!

Donkey, you have a call here…?

Donkey’s Pick: Vovchanchyn via TKO (Strikes)

I think Vovchanchyn’s team will know that the ground is an unnecessary risk tonight and try to keep this standing. And if they can, Diaz likely won’t, well, stand a chance. But, if it does go to the ground, this becomes a whole new ballgame folks and it’s anybody’s guess where it goes from there! This is going to be a fun one to see how it plays out, that’s for sure!

Main Event

Light Heavyweight Bout

Aleks Kuznetsov (4-0-0) vs. Jacob Parker (2-1-0)

And finally here were are with the Main Event Donkey! Wooo, it’s been a long road to get here it seems, with several matches up to this point which themselves could have been Main Event caliber! But no, this one is, and this one is for the Sucker Punch Pro Series Light Heavyweight Championship of the World! Woooooo!

Parker will be the challenger this evening after he got passed both Steven Jones and then Ross Rhea in his first two Sucker Punch fights, via TKO and KO respectively! Both fights were nice, convincing wins against quality opponents, and Parker’s overall skill level combined with that put him in position to get this shot. Granted, there are a lot of other up and comers who are started to jockey and vye for the same opportunity, and they’ll probably follow in his footsteps soon! But for not, the opportunity is Parker’s to make good on, or at least try! Parker is a standup fighter who likes to kick, punch, clinch, dance, talk sweet nothings…well, maybe that last part…but you get the idea…he brings the whole arsenal, in or out of the clinch, till he’s got you and you take that punch that puts you down!

Across the cage is an absolute brute of a man who…frankly…will have no issue taking that challenge and bringing his own form of pain and punishment! Kuznetsov will stand and throw down with pretty much any man in the Light Heavyweight division, hell, probably some that aren’t…and tonight, that’s exactly what I anticipate happening as he goes in there to defend his belt for the first time! There will be no rolling around and sweaty man on sweaty man ground game stuff in this one folks! Nope, I expect an all-out bash em and see who drops first contest!

Well Donkey, who will it be…?

Donkey’s Pick: Parker via TKO (Strikes)

You know my policy on this Donkey, usually I stick with the champ till somebody proves they can best him! And, I still like Kuznetsov’s chances of coming through in this one! But, you’re asking me to pick, so…I’m going to say that there’s something about this Light Heavyweight division…Lamb was the first of all our champions to fail to defend his belt, and it just feels like this division may have a lot of turnover…so I’m going for the upset tonight…with the challenger landing that blow that finishes it!

Post Event Cheap Shots

Sucker Punch Pro Series 14

Well we’re back with you this morning after a huge night of action over at the Bondi in Sydney folks! With Sucker Punch Pro Series 14 now in the books we’re set to take a look back at the mayhem and see just went down!

I’m Hare Rumpler along with my partner and analyst Donkey “Dan” and our delightful media correspondent, Suzy Sucker Punch! This was just a fun night all around, with some fights easily guessed and others not. Some fights surprisingly went the distance while others had dramatic finishes! This was a Light Heavyweight...um…well…heavy card so you always know the action is going to be pulse pounding and brutal when the next to largest set beasts we keep here at Sucker Punch are set loose upon the cage! Hmm…I guess you’re not really set loose, if you’re in a cage are you?!? Well, you know what I meant!

But let’s not just sit here and listen to me ramble on, instead, a word from our sponsor and merchandise partner and then off to the good stuff!

Do you find that you’re resting your fighters too often? Two, three, maybe even 4 times a week sometimes? If that’s the case, you’re probably not supplementing their training, and if you are I’m thinking you’re not doing it with Shadow Warrior Tea 160Q, which is Shadow Warrior Nutrition’s outstanding energy loss reduction supplement. It’s the best money can buy and will keep your fighter in the gym training rather than sitting days out resting! Stop on over there today, you will NOT be disappointed!

Now, let's get to it!

Undercard Bout #1: Welterweight

Alex Driver Defeats Third Tourn via Unanimous Decision

There were really no surprises here as we kicked things off for the evening outside the fact that this actually went the distance rather than being finished. I say that because Third Tourn came into the fight a bit off on the morale and energy, yet, Driver found himself unable to close things out and had to let the judges do his bidding. With Tourn not fully prepared, this fight didn’t exactly challenge Donkey for his first pick of the evening.

It looked like Driver was going to finish this thing towards the end of the first round though! About thirty seconds before the bell Driver caught Tourn with a head kick that didn’t land flush, but just about did the job and rocked Tourn pretty well. Tourn dove into a clinch to just cling and hold on for the bell and was able to make it out of the round alive.

This fight was in and out of the clinch throughout with Tourn instigating and Driver pulling out to get back to striking from distance. Tourn was able to land a few while in there, but not enough to do the damage needed and Driver was particularly effective with his kicks outside the clinch.

Donkey, anything else there…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

As you mentioned Hare, this fight wasn’t exactly a challenge to pick due to Tourn’s lack of preparation. And Driver did almost finish it at the end of the first there. A much needed and well-earned win for Driver who should now simply look forward and block anything else his mind! Tourn is new to our organization, so probably hasn’t seen the many posts and information items we’ve previously sent out about morale and energy, but now would be a great time to dig through our forum thread and our news page to review it all before next month!

Undercard Bout #2: Light Heavyweight

Julian Rourke Defeats Ian Justino via TKO (Strikes)

We mentioned in the preview that our second fight of the night was likely to stay on the feet…unless Justino decided to try to take advantage of his blue belt over Rourke’s white on the ground. Sure enough, Justino tried just that, taking the fight to the ground in the first and second rounds. Unfortuntely, once there he had a little trouble transitioning and getting opportunities to land good shots, having all nine of his strikes blocked or avoided.

To get those two opportunities, Justino burned off a ton of energy attempting to put it on the ground, succeeding only twice out of twenty-one attempts! That put him in a rough spot when they were standing toe to toe, with Rourke being the better striker, something he proved with accurate strikes to the head and body, along with leg and body kicks that landed almost at will! Actually, only two of Rourke’s offensive moves failed, and that was two of his four combos. Sure enough, just before the bell could save Justino at the end of the second and give him a much needed breather…this happened after Rourke had already dropped Justino once, rocked him, but waved him back to his feet…

Rourke drops Justino with a huge uppercut! Justino drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes. Rourke is raining down punches and the ref stops the fight! This one is all over!

Over to you Donkey…!

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Justino seemed to have a decent plan in place in this one, at least as far as trying to get it to the ground and then use strikes to work Rourke over. Unfortunately, he expended so much energy getting it there we’re not sure if he had much left to do much damage on the ground. Rourke’s striking was absolutely on point and he’s certainly looking great after his Sucker Punch debut and a new 2-0 record! For Justino, back to the drawing board and the gym, train hard, continue to iron out the wrinkles…but there was some light at the end of the tunnel in this one. At 3-3 he’s still very much in it at 20 years old and with continued refinement this kid may just make it big!

Undercard Bout #3: Light Heavyweight

John Fury Defeats Ross Rhea via TKO (Cut)

Our next fight of the evening here between Light Heavyweights John Fury and Ross Rhea saw Fury come out the aggressor…by far. That aggression resulted in a cut for Rhea early, which I don’t think too many people saw as being a major issue. However, over the course of the fight that cut started to worsen and you could see the look on his trainer’s face in between rounds two and three realizing that it was getting nasty.

Fury was scoring points with the judges in this fight anyway due to his aggressive attack and strikes landed, with the rate being just over 50%. However, while it’s always disappointing to lose a fight due to cuts, in this case Rhea was definitely not out of the fight. He was doing fairly well in the clinch, when he was able to take and keep it there, but there just wasn’t enough time spent slow dancing for him to score enough points. He would have needed a finish to turn this one around.

To be fair, the ref did try to give Rhea as much time as he could before he finally pulled the doc in. Donkey, I just have to wonder though, what’s the point of doing that with only 22 seconds remaining? I mean, at that point, just let it play out, and even if Rhea was probably going to lose via decision, at least he got a chance to send it to the judges right? Seems a bit silly to go that far and then not let it finish.

Over to you Donkey…

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Well first, a big welcome to Sucker Punch for Fury and this is certainly the way you want to start out, with a win, and improving your record, in this case to 2-0! Now, on the stoppage there Hare, I believe the ref was trying to give Rhea a chance to come up with a finish, if he could. But…regarding why finally stop it? Well, because at that point in the final round, even with so little time remaining, Rhea was taking quite a few shots from Fury. And that cut was bad! So I think if Rhea had looked like he was getting back in it, taking the fight to Fury, maybe this would have continued, but that wasn’t the case. Heal up, bounce back, he’s still got a .500 record at 4-4 and plenty of time to get on track at only 20 years old!

Undercard Bout #4: Featherweight

Mike Ehrmantraut Defeats Hiki Antsa via KO (Punch)

Ok, in what was supposed to be a test of Antsa to see where he was and where he should be in the Top 10…well, things went a bit sideways for him! Ehrmantraut…who apparently, according to what I’m reading here, is a 20 year old despite looking…well hell, doesn’t he look about sixty at least Donkey?...anyways, Ehrmantraut had other ideas!

Ehrmantraut was here on a one fight deal that I worked out with Kelly McGrady to get Antsa a fight as nobody else was available after Antsa’s original opponent went MIA. We really wanted to get Antsa some action, and also test him. Well, he got tested alright. Right into next week unfortunately.

Antsa got taken into the clinch early, just a few seconds after the bell. From there, he chose to stay up and fight Ehrmantraut’s game! I mean, typically Antsa’s game is on the ground, dishing out strikes or sub attempts, and while I could understand if you just couldn’t get there, Antsa never even appeared to try! You’d almost have to wonder if he came in with low morale, but that wasn’t the case either. It was a perplexing fight, honestly. And as bad as it was going in the clinch for Antsa, and it wasn’t awful, but he was definitely losing…it got worse when the action slowed down and ref separated them right at the end of the round!

Because at that point Ehrmantraut immediately tagged Antsa several times with an overhand left, a cross…and then, this…

Ehrmantraut lands with a massive overhand right! Stick a fork in Antsa - he's out cold! Ermm... I think I just mixed my metaphors but yeah... That was a nice KO! Big win for Ehrmantraut!

So, what do you say Donkey...?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

We said this was going to be an exciting fight! I got the pick wrong, but boy, did the fans get a big finish! Antsa is going to be disappointed with this loss as it’ll set him back some after a fight he was favored to win. At 3-3 and 21 years old, hey, there’s still lots of time. But it likely won’t leave him in the Top 10 after two losses in a row now…although we haven’t done the rankings yet, so who knows! For the record, we did make our play to get Ehrmantraut here permanently…only time will tell if it works out and McGrady instructs him to get over here and fight more!

Undercard Bout #5: Middleweight

Jin Yi Defeats Kiryu Kazuma via Submission (Guillotine)

This fight was over and done with a quickness and so will this review be I’d think! We know that Suzy had a few words with Yi after this fight and he was pretty taken aback about how Kazuma actually had the nerve to take him to the ground in this fight. I’m not going to lie Donkey, when it happened, I was pretty shocked too. That’s ballsy…or at least, that’s one way to describe it!

The thing is, it’s not entirely crazy of us to have thought that Kazuma might decide to take this fight to the ground. I mean, it is crazy to do it, but it’s in line with his prior record. That’s what he does, he stands, he goes to the ground, he clinches, he’s like a tweaker who can’t focus! Ha!

So when this thing went to the ground straight from the bell, it was shocking, but at the same time, not entirely surprising. But, the only thing we know for sure, is that it was a mistake! Yi is a ground submission specialist and going to the ground with him is no joke. Once there, you better be darned confident in your abilities, something that Kazuma was and is not. So it’s no surprise that fifty-three seconds into this fight, Yi was sinking in a guillotine and the ref was calling it after a tap!

Any thoughts there Donkey…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

I’m still just sort of shaking my head over this one Hare. Yi won’t mind the move to 4-1 with this win, that’s for sure. Kazuma will drop to 2-3, and probably need to really go back and revise his strategic plans moving forward!

Suzy Sucker Punch had a few words with Yi after he finally exited the cage, excited, happy, yet, clearly also a bit agitated at the same time…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Jin, congratulations on a quick and painless win! You should be thrilled I’d think, and yet, you don’t look entirely happy…what’s going on?

Jin Yi: A takedown in the opening seconds? Clearly he did not respect my skills. And frankly, I’m a little pissed off. I deserve respect. That’s my fourth straight win, all by submission. And you have such disregard for my talent that you take me to the ground right away? Well, you saw what happened next buddy. Tap, tap, tap. Just like a little child. Damn it feels great to get paid big money for less than one minute of work!

Suzy Sucker Punch: Guys, looks like Jin Yi is about as perplexed as you guys are on why that got to the ground so easily, and not by his own doing!

Main Card Bout #1: Light Heavyweight

Sacrificial Lamb Defeats Harold Kerzner via Unanimous Decision

With my own boy in this fight Donkey, it was hard to stay completely unbiased and objective. Lamb had faced a few ground specialists before, so we had a fairly good idea of what he could do down there if it ended up on the ground. The preference, of course, would be to never let it get there to begin with.

That almost worked out, as Lamb was countering well early in this fight and about ninety seconds in dropped Kerzner with a good right hand that rocked him! Honestly, I was jumping up and down losing my head and hoping Lamb would find the killer instinct to finish it, but that just wasn’t meant to be it seems! He waved Kerzner back up, but Kerzner was able to recover.

At about three and a half minutes in, Kerzner finally got a takedown after failing a few attempts up to that point. The first time a guy gets a non-ground specialist to the ground, it’s always a scary few moments until you see how the guy can handle it. In this case, Lamb was doing well controlling on the ground and gaining position, even reversing it. Kerzner still got his shots in for a few submission attempts, but nothing was seeming to stick.

Kerzner got the takedown right away in the second, and this thing was back to the game of positioning and submission attempts on the ground. Again, after about a minute or so of the ground action, Lamb was able to reverse and gain the top. The subs kept coming from Kerzner but in the process he gave up the mount to Lamb…and then worse…his back! I thought this was it, Lamb’s going to actually get a win on the ground?!? But no, Kerzner held on for the bell and we went to the third!

The third was more of the same, more boxing, more clinching, another trip to the ground, a sub or so from both guys, nothing sticking. Lamb managed to ride it to the end and get a solid decision from the judges

Donkey, what else have you got for us…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Not much to say here, Lamb proved me wrong. You went on and on long enough Hare, I think the fans want to hear about something else. With Lamb going to 6-2, you have to wonder…will he eventually work his way back into the title picture for a second go round after having lost the belt in his last fight? Kerzner moves to 2-3, and is having a very rough stretch with three losses in a row. He’s going to need to evaluate what areas he needs to focus on to strengthen his overall game, but specifically in key areas that might help him become more effective and avoid further L’s!

Main Card Bout #2: Light Heavyweight

Wille Thai Defeats Tito Slamcock via Submission (Arm Triangle)

Ninety seconds Donkey! That’s what this took for Thai to find the submission, lock it in, and head on out with a win and a smile!

Slamcock cut Thai early with a big jab that looked like it definitely woke Thai up and announced that this was a fight! Slamcock actually attempted a takedown after that, something that I think was probably going to be a big mistake had he succeeded…but no worries about that, Thai did the honors a few moments later, only choosing to be the one on top instead!

From there it was submission spam hour…or at least, minute. Four attempts later, Thai was looking for the arm, he got the foot free and rotated around and BAM! That thing was in gith and Slamcock was tapping out before he ended up with damage that needed a surgeon’s attention!

Donkey, what are you thinking…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

With that win, Thai moves to a fantastic 5-1 record and is making a strong case that his single loss to Lamb was a one-off anomaly and he’s ready to be looked at as a contender again! Could another big fight, and potential win, get him right there? You have to think it will get him very close if not, yes, get him there! Slamcock was on a roll after winning his prior two fights, so this certainly puts a damper on things to a degree. But, he’s still got a solid record and stringing together a couple again could make a strong case that he’s ready go rock at the top! But…he’s going to have to tighten up those ground defenses.

Main Card Bout #3: Light Heavyweight

Hemmo Karhu Defeats OJ Simpson via Submission (Kimura)

This was a battle to see who would become the next Light Heavyweight Top Contender, and boy did these two come out and fight like exactly that was on the line, and they both wanted it! Kudos to them for giving it everything!

Both Simpson and Karhu did what we anticipated, so really this came down to who could assert themselves, who could drive the fight where they wanted it, and who could follow through on ending the other’s night! Simpson was excellent in the standup, much as we expected he’d be. He cut Karhu early after the first minute of action, something that can always be a concern but ended up not factoring in in this fight as it developed further. Then, just before the minute mark, Karhu got his first takedown, also what we expected he would want.

On the ground, Simpson did a fantastic job controlling, but surprisingly went without any concern for transitions as Karhu himself really didn’t attempt to improve his position much. Instead Karhu was working the ground and pound, as well as a sub attempt here or there if he could get a good shot! Simpson was wise to his plan though, and did a great job of biding his time and then escaping to the feet when he got the chance in the first, once right about midway through the round and then, after being taken down again just before the four minute mark, managed to get back to his feet just before the bell. Fantastic stuff, and honestly, I was surprised Simpson had it in him Donkey!

In the second, Simpson was again effective on the feet for the first minute, almost minute and a half, but just couldn’t get a finish going, although it did look like Karhu’s energy was starting to fade a little. Karhu managed another takedown though to get things back in his element and shortly after was working the sub attempts again! Simpson almost got away on the first attempt, when Karhu went for a leg and missed and Simpson just about got to the feet…but Karhu was there and pounced back on top!

Karhu was still looking for a potential leg, but could tell Simpson was really looking for any chance to get away, so a second sub attempt had to be aborted. Simpson was getting eager to get out from this bad position, and that’s when it happened Donkey, he was focused on other stuff and Karhu nailed a kimura…locking it in tight and Simpson was tapping out before he knew what happened!

Donkey, what can you add…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Wow Hare, you going to just tell a whole little story there? Well, I guess you wanted to really convey the feel of intensity in this fight, and well, I guess you did that. It was a heck of a tussle between these two and Simpson handled the ground better than we thought, but just not enough in the end. Karhu stuck to it, and honestly, it’s probably good that he got the win when he did, because if Simpson had gotten away again, there’s a chance this may have ended the other way around on the feet due to Karhu gassing out! It was really that close a fight! Congrats to Karhu, he gets a chance to go play with that beast…well, er…I won’t say anything since you know…that fight’s coming up in just a little bit and we’ll review the results then!

As Simpson exited the cage, Suzy was there with his manager, James McCarthy…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Mr. McCarthy, Donkey had OJ picked to win this fight tonight, but things just didn’t work out. What do you think happened that let this one slip away and how do you see your team moving forward?

James McCarthy: Suzy, I’m sorry we let Donkey down. OJ’s takedown defence is not good enough. He will be back to smoke that crotch sniffer. Whoever OJ has to beat to get the rematch we’ll take!

Suzy Sucker Punch: Intensity and desire will drive you a long way guys, and this team lacks none of that! We’ll see Simpson again, likely looking to try for Top Contender status before too long!

Co-Main Event

Welterweight Bout

Igor Vovchanchyn Defeats Diego Diaz via Unanimous Decision

Another fight for title contention here with Vovchanchyn and Diaz both looking to become the next guy to have a shot at the title in the Welterweight division! This one as our Co-Main Event of the evening, and boy, did these two give the fans their money’s worth as they took it the distance for a full three rounds!

This one went exactly as Donkey and I had anticipated. It featured Vovchanchyn deciding to use his standup if he could against Diaz, because, well…why go to the ground if you don’t have to against a guy who HAS to get to the ground to have a shot? Exactly. Now, credit to Diaz, because Vovchanchyn had an opportunity to dish out plenty of shots in this one standing and Diaz took them and kept right on going! That’s pretty impressive in itself. Diaz did get this fight to the ground though, and not surprising, once there, Vovchanchyn was more than capable of playing the game as well, even getting the first sub attempt in. A lot of that was based upon Vovchanchyn’s grappling skills on the ground, as he was controlling and preventing Diaz from being able to transition into better positions for his sub attempts.

Vov was doing such a good job of that that Diaz didn’t get his first sub attempt in until late in the second round. And then, as this thing moved to the third round and he got it to the ground yet again, it was still towards the last two minutes of the round before Diaz was able to pose a threat with the subs again, getting a trifecta of attempts in but unable to lock any of them down!

Donkey, what do you have for us after this one…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Vovchanchyn’s strikes when standing were enough to score him the points he needed to win this thing with the judges, and he knew that. He was able to control, ensure he didn’t give any obvious opportunities for Diaz to finish when they were on the ground, and if he could do that, he would win the decision as without striking in this, Diaz needed a sub finish. Diaz took a hell of a few good shots from Vovchanchyn, but he probably isn’t taking much solace from that today. Vovchanchyn gets the job done, and he’ll get the next shot at the title in a month!

Suzy caught up with Igor Vovchanchyn backstage on his way to the locker room…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Igor, you’re clearly happy but I can tell less than thrilled. I assume you wanted and thought you could get the finish out there, but instead this thing went the distance and the judges got involved. You came out on top though and get the title shot next, any thoughts on the way it went?

Igor Vovchanchyn: Diaz is a very dangerous sub specialist and has a great management team. We really wanted to get the finish and tried very hard but the guy has a granite chin and we thought it important to land every strike to minimize openings for takedowns. Having said that I feel I dominated the fight from start to finish. It was a great fight and Diaz will be a very big problem for all fighters in the division.

Suzy Sucker Punch: There you have it guys, always the professional, but always expecting and trying for more! Will he be the next champ? Be here next month and find out!

Main Event

Light Heavyweight Bout

Aleks Kuznetsov vs. Jacob Parker

Our Main Event of the evening folks, and boy, after quite a few really great fights here at Sucker Punch Pro Series 14 were we ready to see a heck of a finish! Now, this thing didn’t last long, less than two minutes actually, but it had the fireworks with two brutal, beastly beings going toe to toe, planning to strike this one out!

But before we get too far into this thing, let’s take a quick look back at the introduction by our very own Juice Fluffer…

3d8a168f5f8ff8e520307ef15bdabf4c.png

Juice Fluffer enters the cage…

“Ladies and gentlemen…this is the Maaaain Event of the evening!”

“The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Steve Erwin and Damien Edna.”

“Our sponsor for this event is Shadow Warrior Nutrition.”

“Annnnnnnd Now! For those in attendance and Sucker Punch fans around the world…this is the moment you’ve all been waiting for!”

“LIVE!, from THE Bondi Outdoor Arena in Sydney, Australia…”

“Iiiiit’s TIIIIIIIME! Five rounds for the Undisputed Sucker Punch Pro Series Light Heavyweight Championship of the World!”

“Introducing first…fighting out of the blue corner. Holding a professional record of TWO wins, one loss and NO draws, he stands 189 centimeters tall, weighing in at 205 pounds and 21 years of age, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nevada, United States and hailing from Kailua, Hawaii…The Challenger and Top Contender in the Sucker Punch Pro Series Light Heavyweight division…Jaaaaaaacob…PARRRRRRRRKERRRRR!!!

“And nowwwww…FIGHTING… out of the red corner. With professional record of FOUR wins, NO losses and NO draws, he stands 182 centimeters tall, weighing in at 205 and a half pounds and 20 years of age, hailing from Ostashkov, Russia and fighting out of New York, United States… THE REIGNING….DEFENDING…UNNNNNNDISPUTED Sucker Punch Pro Series Light Heavyweight Champion of the World, Allllleks…“Kammmmchatkaaaaa”…KUUUUUZNETSOVVVV!!!

And we were off Donkey! Boy were we off! And ready for some fireworks! These two went at it, immediately trading jabs and sizing each other up and measuring the distance…with Kuznetsov taking a cut from Parker’s jab! But don’t let those jabs fool you, these two didn’t intend to dance around and take a lot of time to get acquainted! Oh no! Instead, the next shot was a nasty shot to the body from Kuznetsov as Parker let Kuznetsov start the action. But was he lulling Kuznetsov into a false sense of security Donkey?

And then the counters started from Parker…a missed double jab from Kuz, and bam, one straight down the pipe…a missed body shot and a jab to the nose…and then, a cross that missed from Kuznetsov…

…and Parker counters with a straight right hand. Kuznetsov is rocked!

…and Kuznetsov, usually a beast of a man who can take a punch like you wouldn’t know, was rocked and stumbled! Not to be put away so easily, Kuznetsov did land one right on Parker’s immediately following, you know, just to be sure he had at least a decoration to go home with, regardless of who left with the belt or not!

A bit more of this and that, even a move into the clinch by Parker for a few moments, broken shortly after by Kuz…and then…the moment that had all the fans on their feet and blowing the roof off the Bondi…

A looping hook to the body misses from Kuznetsov. Parker does a little dance to reset his feet and batters Kuznetsov with a massive right followed by a huge left! Kuznetsov is out on his feet looking like a zombie as Parker lands a final crushing right hand to drop Kuznetsov to the mat with a gruesome thud! Parker is running around like a mad man after that fight and for good reason!

Running around like a madman for good reason indeed Donkey…can you believe you made the call on this??!!! Juice Fluffer came in to make it all official…

Juice Fluffer enters the cage as the referee has both fighters in the middle of the cage…

“Ladies and gentlemen, our referee has called a stop to this contest at one minute and forty six seconds of round number one…”

“Declaring the winner…by Knockkkouuuut…ANNNNNNDDDD NEWWWWW…Sucker Punch Pro Series…UNNNNNDISPUTEDDDDD…Light Heavyweight Champion of the World…“Jaaaaaaacob…PARRRRRRRRKERRRRR!!!!!!

And there we have it, three title fights in this division, three different champions Donkey! Can you believe that stuff? Wow. Something tells me Parker is going to be one tough customer to deal with going forward though!

Donkey, you there…?

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Yeah, I’m here Hare, but just sitting here shocked that somebody could put the man, Kuznetsov, on his ass like that! I mean, if you had laid down cash with me that somebody could KO that man, like that, I’d have said it was taking easy money! But Parker came in and did just that, and in the process put this entire division on notice! You want the belt…ok, come take it from this man! If you can. For Kuznetsov, he’ll go back, figure out what he could do to maybe avoid the same outcome, and work his way back for another shot down the line if he has the drive we think he does!

Back at the locker room after the fight, Suzy stopped by and checked in on Aleks Kuznetsov…

Suzy Sucker Punch: Aleks, I know this wasn’t the result you were looking for when you first dreamed of defending the belt. Do you have a few moments to say something to the fans or the rest of the org?

Aleks Kuznetsov: Parker is a monster. *laughs heartily* I pray for all fighters going after that belt!

Suzy Sucker Punch: I think that’s a fair enough breakdown, and probably good advice from the person with the most first-hand, up to date knowledge of the situation! Guys, I don’t think this is the last we’ve seen of Kuznetsov in title fights!

*********

So there we have it Sucker Punch fans!

Wow, did you guys see, or believe, the way this night ended? If you weren’t there, or didn’t catch up on it, the fights leading up to the Light Heavyweight title fight in the Main Event were all that, and wow, the way that Championship bout ended…my god! Yes Donkey, you’re right, Light Heavyweights, danger lurks! We hope you all enjoyed it and we’ll see you next time!

Till then…remember…

Keep it cheap and dirty…Sucker Punch Pro Series 355k+ style!
