SUCKER PUNCH PREVIEW

Sucker Punch Pro Series 56

Hello out there Sucker Punch fans!  After about a week break we’re back and ready to get at it here with SPPS 56 coming at you live and in person from the Bondi Outdoor Arena in Sydney tonight!  As always, I’m Hare Rumpler alongside my pal and analyst, Donkey “Dan” as we get ready for great action this evening!

Right now it looks like nine fights on the card this evening unless we get super lucky and get one last one booked at the very last minute.  But unfortunately due to a couple folks going MIA we’re going to be one short most likely.  Still, the action will be intense as we get back to having those belts on the line with the Featherweight up for contest this evening!  That will be our Main Event as Michael Aalto heads to the cage to defend once again, this time against a very dangerous Brady Jean Baptiste!

Also leading up to that fight will be an outstanding Lightweight bout between St. Clair and Kurt Cobain in the Co-Main Event and an array of other great matchups on a great night to be there under the open sky as it looks to be heading towards about 68°F, cloudy but about as pleasant as you can get!  One thing that won’t be pleasant…the action and pure malice in the cage this evening!

So, with all that said, let’s get a word about our sponsor and merchandise partner and move onto the good stuff!

1584375781SWN.jpg

When you think about training your fighters, one of the biggest concerns is keeping them in the gym and actively training, am I right? And you can’t do that if they have to be stopping to recover and rest for sessions here and sessions there! That is why you need to visit our sponsor, Shadow Warrior Nutrition, and specifically grab some of their Shadow Warrior Tea 160Q. It is literally the best energy loss reduction supplement money can buy and will keep your fighter in the gym training rather than sitting days out resting! Stop on over there today, you will NOT be disappointed!

Now, let's get to it!

Undercard Bout #1: Welterweight Sparring Bout

Taz McKane (0-0-0) v Nacho Palhares (0-0-0)

We’ll kick things off tonight with a little one round, three minute sparring contest between two of Chris Karter’s young hopefuls in Nacho Palhares and Taz McKane!  Neither of these kids have “secured” their spot as part of Karter’s stable yet and would like nothing more than to go out there this evening and show what they’ve got under the covers!

Palhares will have the smallest of edges in Muay Thai while McKane will come in with a similar small advantage in boxing.  Both have respectable wrestling and a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu as they start out their development for a career in MMA!  Now, your guess is as good as ours given these kids have zero history to go on and really it just depends upon what Karter told these kids to do tonight.  He could have them go out there with some pillows and just tap each other a few times, he could have them fall on the ground, roll around like they’re putting out a fire and get the hell out of the cage afterward…or, he could tell them he wants to see them beat the living shit out of each other for three minutes.  We don’t know!

Donkey, I know I’m personally hoping one of these kids has the chutzpah to give the other a good shot to the dingle dangles, ya know?  How do you think it goes Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Nope

I don’t make picks on sparring bouts as you all know.  What’s important here is what we find out in the Tale of the Tape for these two.  Do they love pizza?  Perhaps enjoy comics?  Or are they going to make Karter one happy camper and have a granite chin perhaps, maybe some KO Power?  Just please, god, no tendency to bleed all over the damned place please!  We’ll also be looking to see how the kid who loses handles it.  Will his morale go to complete shit or will he brush it off like ‘no thang but a chicken wang!’ and get right back to training with a fire in his gut?  All things to find out this evening folks!

***********************

Undercard Bout #2: Middleweights

Alexei Rodionovich (6-7-0) v Van Der Veer Jr (4-10-0)

I’m not even going to lie a little bit here Donkey, I’m highly disappointed in Van Der Veer Jr here as he comes into this fight about 35% off on morale and over 10% down on energy.  Clearly his manager didn’t feel the need to send him into the cage prepared this evening and I know what that probably means for your pick.  For a guy who has two losses in a row heading into the cage tonight, one from GDL before joining Sucker Punch and the other to Jouko Juntti Jr last month via TKO here at SPPS you’d think he’d be looking to give it his very best go to avoid extending that losing streak to three in a row!  Yo, stinky, perhaps a change of clothes might help?  Refer to my MANY posts and news items about how to do that!

Rodionovich got a win over Bruno Souppe last month by taking it the distance and having the judges look his way!  That broke up a nasty streak he’d been on where he went 1-4 with the losses split down the middle by a single win against Roddy Richards back in November.  Tonight, being that he’s shown up prepared for the fight he’s already going to have the advantage over his unprepared opponent.  He’ll get the opportunity to showcase his standup both with his kickboxing and his knees in the clinch if he can just keep this fight off the ground.  Given Der Veer’s lack of morale, there’s a good chance he can manage that this evening!

Donkey, what do you expect to see here…?

Donkey’s Pick: Rodionovich via TKO (Strikes)

This pick was simple to make.  Veer Jr is unprepared and Rodionovich is ready to go.  Easy enough, Rodionovich for the win!  All he needs to do is stay focused and take care of business and he walks out with back to back wins!

Undercard Bout #3: Light Heavyweights

Morioka Shigemasa (3-3-0) v Atilla Dorn (1-3-0)

Good news Donkey, both of these guys are heading to the cage tonight ready to get at it in this Light Heavyweight contest!

Dorn will have the advantage on the ground in this one with his strong wrestling and brown belt in Jiu Jitsu.  He’s struggled since coming to Sucker Punch with a trio of losses now and is still seeking his first victory with us.  Perhaps tonight’s the night?  Despite having the ground advantage we’re guessing that that brown belt is mostly defensive as typically he tends to stand and work an all-around game of striking and knees in the clinch and just as varied an attack outside the clinch with a kickboxing approach.

Shigemasa will welcome the fight staying on the feet tonight if that’s what Dorn chooses to be focused on.  With his superb boxing and wrestling along with exceptional Muay Thai he’s more comfortable standing and striking.  The X-factor tonight will be that he’s under new management as part of Cian Coggins’ team now.  So does he send Shigemasa in with a brand new approach?  He can use a new approach to things being he comes into the fight with two losses back to back and will want to break that up with a ‘W’ when this one’s all over!

Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Dorn via TKO (Strikes)

There really are a lot of unknowns with Shigemasa being under new management.  But sometimes it takes a fight or two for a new manager to figure out the best way to use a fighter and that may give Dorn the chance to pick up a win and finally score one with SPPS.  He’s certainly hoping so as going 0-4 would be devastating!

***********************

Undercard Bout #4: Middleweights

Sirus Hall (8-6-0) v Bruno Souppe (0-4-0)

Our last of the Undercard bouts this evening will be a Middleweight contest between Souppe and Hall as both fellas head into the cage fueled up and ready to go!  I love to see that Donkey and I know you do as well!

Souppe started out his professional MMA career on the Island where he couldn’t quite get a win in his two fights losing via both submission and TKO.  Since moving off the Island and coming to the “real world” he spent about six or seven months training and refining before stepping on with us here at Sucker Punch.  So far he’s still trying to find his way to the promised land of wins, riches and glory as he’s lost via KO to Valeryevich in February and then struggled through a hard fought one that went the distance with Rodionovich last month.  Will tonight be the night that shows him the way to success?  He’ll have the advantage with his Muay Thai this evening against Hall but hasn’t really seemed to have an interesting in taking things to the clinch so far in his fights.  Maybe tonight that changes?

Hall is on a two fight winning streak and is 2-1 overall since joining Sucker Punch.  He’s shown he can win multiple ways with a submission over Rodionovich two fights back and then a KO that put Wick down and out cold last month!  Both first round finishes.  Being that his Muay Thai is woeful it’s definitely an area of possible disadvantage but Hall has shown he knows how to make the best use of  his skills to find the ‘W’.  Will he go for the ground this time around or stand and throw hands? Can’t wait to see!

Donkey, who do you think walks off with the coveted ‘W’ in this one…?

Donkey’s Pick: Hall via Submission (Armbar)

I’m not trying to hate on Souppe with this pick in any way but at the same time it seems like he’s struggling to find a way put together his many skills into a cohesive, winning strategy.  Until he does, I have to go with the guy who has shown he can win.  And win in multiple ways.

***********************

Main Card Bout #1: Middleweights

Psiris Fuhren (7-4-0) v Jim Beam (5-7-0)

Ok fight fans, this one is a big time matchup to start out the Main Card for us as we have Jim Beam, a former champion in the Middleweight division, taking on Fuhren who has been a long time contender within the division with two title fights under his belt.  Unfortunately neither resulted in keeping a belt, but he has certainly gotten to the top of the hill and that shows a lot!  Surprisingly, these two have never met up in the division prior to this point although a big part of that has to do with Fuhren having switched to Welterweight for a while.  Now he’s back in Middleweight and we get to see this great matchup!  With both struggling a little bit of late this is an amazing opportunity for one of these two great combatants to shake it off, get that monkey off the back and start the trek back towards contendership!

Beam won the championship back in December last year with a victory over Nyah Hirst in Hirst’s first title defense. Unfortunately Beam suffered the same fate as Hirst and lost the belt in his own first defense to Landon McGuire who has held onto that gold ever since!  Apparently you live by the submission and you die by the submission, or at least that’s the case there.  Since that time, Beam has really struggled to get back on his horse with losses to Kenji Gōtarō and Jin Lee via TKO and submission respectively.  Fuhren will have the slight advantage in standup this evening, particularly in Muay Thai, but it’s only a very slight advantage.  Will Beam stand and strike or attempt to take it to the ground where Fuhren is less comfortable?

With back and forth loss, win, loss, win, loss trends going, Fuhren’s results over recent months have been a bit like a tennis match with the back and forth.  He’s had solid wins over Reeves and Hodkiewicz, even retiring Hodkiewicz!...but has lost to cream of the crop competition in Christiano, then champ, in a bid for the title and most recently to Matsuzaka who now looks to be on his way to the top in the Welterweight division.  After that loss Fuhren decided that he was meant for Middleweight and comes back to his old stomping grounds…where he hopes to start things off again by stomping on Beam with a solid striking game on the feet!

Donkey…let’s get your call here…?

Donkey’s Pick: Fuhren via TKO (Strikes)

Before he ran into Machado in a title fight at Middleweight and then Hirst after that, who eventually went on to defeat Machado, Fuhren was on a heck of a run in the Middleweight division. He’ll be eager to prove this is where he belongs with a big win here tonight.  But nobody can ignore the talents of the former champ in Beam who has shown he’s crafty and can find a way to win in multiple ways.  This one is really a toss-up and just a great fight to look forward to!

***********************

Main Card Bout #2:  Middleweights

Luka Marka (7-3-0) v Obama Filth (4-4-1)

Ok, we’re moving right along here as we get to our second fight of the Main Card and this definitely isn’t one to miss this evening folks!  Our third Middleweight contest in a row and the action keeps getting more intense, or so we hope!

Filth comes to the cage this evening with his third management team in tow…their first fight with him under their wing.  Rob Hell has taken the young 23 year old Filth under his belt since he was let go by Tomo the Chosen One and looks to guide him to a positive record as he now sits at an even 4-4-1 for a .500 go so far in his career.  This is one well-rounded fighter as he’s between remarkable and sensational in all primary areas of MMA.  Under former management he had a tendency to stand and box, or, if moving into the clinch, to strike with the hands there as well.  We’ll see if new direction under Hell’s team has had him expand those areas of focus any tonight!

One thing Filth had better be prepared for this evening is a varied attack from Marka as Marka has shown that he’ll strike on the feet when he needs to, he’ll do what he must in the clinch as well, but god help you if he can get you on the ground and gain top position to work the ground and pound!  No matter where the fight is taking place, one thing’s for sure…Marka wants to hit you and dish out the pain!

Donkey’s Pick: Marka via TKO (Strikes)

Again, as I’ve said many times, a change of management team can sometimes require an adjustment period as the new team needs to figure out what works for their new team member.  That might be a slight disadvantage for Filth’s squad tonight and if that does end up the case, Marka will capitalize.

***********************

Main Card Bout #3: Light Heavyweights

John Fury (6-1-0) v Tarmo Rajantaka (7-5-0)

We had a little bit of a rough start with a fight or two early in the card when it comes to preparation but as this card has gone on our guys have proven to us that they know what it takes to come ready to give it their best!  Rajantaka and Fury are certainly no exception there as these two Light Heavyweights are ready to try to rock the other’s world this evening!

Rajantaka will have both the wrestling and Muay Thai advantage tonight with sensational skills in both of those areas.  If history is anything to go by, he’ll certainly put those skills to work as well if Fury doesn’t keep him out of the clinch!  He worked over Joe Junior in the clinch last month en route to a TKO victory and did the same with Nemesis Steed three fights back before breaking from the clinch and serving up a nasty head kick to end the evening for an already bludgeoned Steed!  Against Bolt two fights ago he looked to be trying to get the same approach going but couldn’t prevent the fight from going to the ground where it was quickly ended at the hands of a superior submission artist.

Rajantaka won’t have to worry too much about that darned submission game this evening as Fury has made it clear in the past that his preference is to stand and strike.  Hard.  He defeated a tough Tank Tribute last month via TKO due to cuts and took out a formerly resilient Lamb the month before that via a brutal KO!  The only loss of his stellar career so far has been to Jacob Parker who managed to out strike him during a challenge by Fury for the belt!  Folks…don’t expect anything cute this evening.  Just expect a lot of aggression and serious striking from both sides!

Donkey’s Pick: Fury via TKO (Strikes)

There’s a lot on the line in this fight tonight as the winner is likely heading towards a fight with one of the other top fighters in the division and with it a chance to land at the top of the heap in a top contendership role shortly!  So this is not one you want to walk out having come up short!  At some point though, we’re going to have to see if Fury can handle the ground game before we see if he’s ready for a title shot again, so that’s obviously something to watch for. In the meantime, flip a coin, do whatever you do, but don’t miss this battle tonight!

***********************

Co-Main Event:

Featured Lightweight Bout

Raleigh St. Clair (9-3-0) v Kurt Cobain (9-3-0)

Donkey, the Co-Main Event of the evening tonight will bring a Lightweight battle of the 9-3’s to you, hard and heavy!  These kids are pumped and ready to get at it and it’s a fight I cannot wait to see!  Let’s be clear here, when I said hard and heavy, we’re talking about two fighters who have made a career of finishes via TKO’s and KO’s!  Don’t expect this to be a lovefest, or a rolling around on the mat cute little romp this evening.  No, expect hard hitting action that is in your face…well, more, in each of their faces!

Whoever wins this fight tonight WILL be offered a title shot again after the current (well, prior now) top contender, Oosthuizen, went AWOL.  Cobain has been working his way back up into contender position ever since his loss to Michael Aalto when they went at it for the belt back in November.  He had one more misstep against Sitsongrit in a fight that went to a decision but since has been on a roll with three straight wins over Kongsangchai, Skywalker and most recently Yellow Belt Casey.  St. Clair is also a former top contender having recently taken on Frankie Logan and coming up just short in a decision loss. So this is really a contest of the best against the best here tonight and either one could go in there and give Logan a very well deserved ‘fight of his life’!

Again, these two strike, it’s what they do.  It is worth noting one thing that does contradict what I said a little bit.  And that’s that St. Clair has solid wrestling skills and a brown belt.  And he did go to the ground to work the ground and pound against Dominguez last fight.  There is a chance he does indeed decide to take it to the ground, if he can, tonight against Cobain. But if he does, there will be nothing “cute and cuddly” about it. It’ll just be more striking and more pain!

Donkey’s Pick: Cobain via KO (Punch)

I know it’s a total cop-out to say that your guess is as good as mine or to flip a coin.  But this really is that closely matched and it’s really going to come down to strategy, skill and a little luck in this one tonight!  Cobain has been on a roll and seems intent upon getting back to a shot at the belt, so I’ll throw my hat in that corner but wouldn’t be surprised if St. Clair grabs it, pisses in it and flips it back at me!

***********************

Main Event:

Featherweight Championship Bout

Michael Aalto (9-0-0) v Brady Jean Baptiste (8-1-1)

Wooohoooo Donkey!  Here we are, the Main Event of the evening and what a fight we have on tap as the Undefeated, Undisputed Sucker Punch Featherweight Champion of the World prepares to put his 9-0 record…and more importantly, his title…on the line against a very dangerous and talented Jean Baptiste!

Baptiste will have a slight…slight…advantage in Muay Thai, boxing and wrestling.  With the boxing and wrestling being only the smallest of advantages.  Aalto will be the hands down favorite on the ground with his Jiu Jitsu as he now has a black belt versus Baptistes’ purple one.

Baptiste has shown against the likes of Broklyn Red and Kongsangchai that he can end his opponent’s evening in dramatic KO fashion.  He’s also shown most recently against Villarreal and Cabrera that he can handle himself defensively on the ground and take things the distance to a decision.  But not to knock Cabrera…he’s a brown belt and tonight Aalto’s black belt is a whole new level of worrisome!

Aalto has also shown that he can win in varied ways but overwhelmingly his success has come on the ground via submission.  He’s defeated Cobain and Dismantle via submission in the past six months, both extremely skilled strikers.  He’s also downed a fellow submission artist in Drake in his most recent fight and title defense.  He has now successfully come out of five title fights with the belt over his shoulder which is the most in SPPS history and there’s no way he’s going to want to relinquish that belt tonight!

Donkey’s Pick:  Aalto via Submission (Armbar)

Aalto loves his armbars and while I’m confident in Baptistes’ skillset…and certainly his management (full disclosure, Laz Staz is an alliance mate of mine), this will be a fight for the ages and probably one of the toughest fights each of them has been through in their career.  Whoever wins this one is going to EARN THAT GOLD!!!  Get it boys!

***********************

So there we have it Sucker Punch fans!

Awesome action on tap over at the Bondi this evening for SPPS 56 folks!  I hope you’ll be with us to catch all the action and if not, check out that live stream!  In the meantime, have fun, stay safe and enjoy the fights!

Till then, have fun and don’t forget…

Keep it cheap and dirty…Sucker Punch Pro Series 355k+ style!

I would like a rematch with Marka.  I don't know how or why, but my sliders were rolled back to the same as last fight.  I set them after (last fight I screwed up sliders, was my fault.) but I changed them right after the fight.  I double checked them a few days ago to make sure all was well when I set up my training to ensure I was at full energy for the fight.  At that time, they were correct.  But now, after the fight, when I look.. it's back to 100% stay standing.  Marka is a fucking grappler and I did not switch it back to stay standing.  I'm at a complete loss.  Is this a bug someone else has experienced?  How can I prevent this?  It seems to do me no good to set sliders anymore because they revert back for every fight.  I'm almost as baffled as I am pissed.

That's worrisome and now you have me paranoid about my sliders.  Maybe I need to start snapshotting them and checking them after to ensure things were set correctly.  Good to know, sucks it happened, but def good to be aware of.  Thank you for letting us know.

If Filth is up for the rematch and winding this one back up, I'm all for it.

Obama Filth got lucky, he's a chicken shit and doesn't want to face Marka again with correct sliders in play because he knows he'd get dominated.  I promise, Marka won't even attempt a low blow.  He'll just pound your filthy face into a pulp and then offer you a glass of pulp free OJ.

Don't be skeeeeeerd!  Step up and take the fight.  You want 2 months to train up some holes.. which means you know damned good and well you got lucky as hell.  Marka would dominate your ass in any normal circumstances.

With that said... good job, even if my sliders were fucked again somehow, you still did what it took and got the W.  That says something in itself.  But don't, not for one second, think you will KO Marka if you step back into the cage with him.  And what's with the squirrel thing?  Just curious there?

I am confused ?? Marka went for 6 failed TDs looking at the PBP so unless his sliders were set at 100% SHIG no way was he 100% standing

Hello Mr. Bleakardor!
I hear you have a little problem. I'll help you.
But first one important:
You can ask only, but you don't demand!
So ..,
This is a manager program, right? You're a manager, a businessman, right?
Do you want a rematch? Do you want a quick rematch?
   All right.
Be business, close your mouth shut!
I ask for 30% of your wealth for quick rematch.  Moment. I see ... You have about a million dollars, so then
Please transfer 300K to my account and
After 15 days (your fighter is injured) the rematch may come.

Don’t need the big text, We are not in the pub, it’s a business, a cruel world. Capitalism and all subtleties.

you don't cry, pay, squirrel!
Open the stock market, I pull, time is money, so if you don’t feel like paying, you stay for 3 months. But if you can’t stop whining, I’ll only deal with you in four months.
Bye bye

He had counter takedowns at like 15% or something.  But I mean in his stand up game it was at 100% stay standing.  Unless the sliders looked that way but were actually set the way I set them?  Not sure, but for this fight I had changed sliders to 35% takedown attempts.  After the fight, when I went and looked the slider was all the way to 100% stay standing.  Makes no sense to me.    I spoke to Mike about it and guess it's possible a slider preset could have defaulted.  That would explain it, if that were the case.  But just seems odd.  I'm pretty sure the sliders it changed to were from the previous fight (where I fucked up) and not the saved slider pre-set.

Whatever, I'm over it now.  I lost, no biggie.  I get really pissed off when I can't explain something.  I was mad at myself before for messing up the sliders, but I made damn sure to fix them and yet it didn't change when was all said and done.  I can't explain that, and that pissed me off beyond measure.

POST EVENT CHEAP SHOTS

Sucker Punch Pro Series 56

Welcome back Sucker Punch fans!  I’m Hare Rumpler alongside my pal and analyst, Donkey “Dan” and I’m going to attempt to have Donkey give you guys a quick rundown on the results of SPPS 56 from earlier this week where he’ll take a look at where it leaves our fighters!  This will be quick and dirty as we have SPPS 57 coming up this evening and a preview he and I are working on for that, so let’s not waste much time and jump right into this thing!

It was a great card, one of our best rated events ever, despite being a fight short on the card.  Actually, second best ever if I’m not mistaken!  The results were split down the middle between finishes (no submissions, all KO or TKO) and decisions, but even the decisions were chock fully of hard hitting action!  Truly it was a fun one to have been at!

Taz McKane Defeats Nacho Palhares via Unanimous Decision

Donkey’s Takeaways:

We got things rolling on this night with a quick little three minute, single round banger of a sparring bout between two of Chris Karter’s kids.  Well, sorta.  There really wasn’t any banging going on here!  They faked a few shots, clinched up, slow danced for a bit and that was it.  No shots thrown.  Clearly they were instructed to just “go through the motions”.  It was about as boring a thing as you could ask for and was a great time to be over getting yourself a drink and something to eat if you didn’t eat out at the tailgate!

McKane was the “winner” and appears to have found a way to stay part of Karter’s stable by showing a good chin.  For now at least, barring a nasty morale drop the first time he loses.  Palhares lost over three-quarters of his morale with the loss, which in itself would be enough to get sacked, but also showed determined which isn’t something a lot of top managers will run with.  Not surprisingly he found himself looking for a new gym and team to train with following the fight.

Undercard Bout #2: Middleweights

Alexei Rodionovich Defeats Van Der Veer Jr via TKO (Knee & Punches)

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Rodionovich made quick work of this one, taking only thirty seconds to end things in dramatic fashion! If not for a brutal KO later in the evening during the Main Card this would have been an easy pick for ‘KO of the Night’ by Rodionovich.  After that dud of an opening bout this one really got the crowd fired up and Rodionovich will earn himself some higher listed fights in the future if he keeps this sort of work up!

Van Der Veer Jr came in unprepared and Rodionovich made him pay for it.  A knee and punches is certainly the sort of punishment that leaves and impression and hopefully Der Veer Jr will take it into consideration next month when he gets ready to come for a fight.  Der Veer Jr will get a chance to step up prepared next month against returning Sucker Punch vet Jacques Piaget who comes back to our org under new management.  We’re just waiting on Piaget’s anticipated run in the TWGC to be up before booking things.

We expect Rodionovich to get a shot at revenge against Sirius Hall next month.  That was his last loss before he “found his way” and will be a great chance to show what a few months of training, development and evolution can do for a fighter!

Undercard Bout #3: Light Heavyweights

Atilla Dorn Defeats Morioka Shigemasa via Unanimous Decision

In the preview I said that, “There really are a lot of unknowns with Shigemasa being under new management.  But sometimes it takes a fight or two for a new manager to figure out the best way to use a fighter and that may give Dorn the chance to pick up a win and finally score one with SPPS.  That turned out to be a fairly accurate statement as this fight stayed on the feet but Shigemasa seemed unable to capture the advantage.  That was never more true than in the clinch, which he worked for and got sixteen times, but found himself on the wrong end of the majority of exchanges.  Now that his manager has seen him try to put his directions to work in the cage, Shigemasa will get a chance to see what he can bring to the table next month against young Abraham Barnes!

Overall Dorn was able to outwork Shigemasa both in and out of the clinch. With just a bit more aggression along with the use of knees in the clinch he was able to score enough points in rounds two and three to overcome the loss of the first round to Shigemasa.  A much needed win as he’d dropped three in a row at Sucker Punch and really needed the monkey off his back!  Next month he’ll get the opportunity to welcome newcomer Artyom Meyer to Sucker Punch!

Undercard Bout #4: Middleweights

Sirus Hall Defeats Bruno Souppe via TKO (Strikes)

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Souppe continues to struggle as he seeks his first professional win.  He’s lost three in a row here at Sucker Punch and five on his career following this fight.   A bit more concerning is that his chin appears to be somewhat suspect. He was rocked by Hall in this one within the first twenty seconds of action and it didn’t take much after that for Hall to finish things off on the ground.  An exciting bit of quick but hard hitting action that got the fans all pumped up again, exactly what you’re looking for with the opening Undercard fights!  This one again could have easily been in consideration for “KO of the Night” on any other card.

With the win Hall creates a fantastic three fight winning streak for himself and really turns up the talk regarding whether he’s ready to make big mores up the division rankings!  He’ll get a chance to face off against another upward move next month in Rodionovich who fought earlier this evening as well. Souppe’s management has already informed us that he’s likely to be let go at the end of this contract, so he has one more fight before that happens assuming we find him a suitable opponent.  We’re looking to see who that might be.

Main Card Bout #1: Middleweights

Psiris Fuhren Defeats Jim Beam via TKO (Strikes)

Donkey’s Takeaways:

We got the Main Card rolling with this up and down, all around and all over the place adventure between Fuhren and Beam!  It was a good one that generally seemed to please the crowd as these two showed they could go at it all over the place, standing, in the clinch and on the ground when Beam was able to get it there.  They split the first two rounds with Beam actually getting the better of the exchanges while boxing, or more to the point, kickboxing for him…but then Fuhren taking advantage in the clinch.  The ground game was anticipated to be the thing that might give the former champ in Beam an edge but surprisingly he was unable to capitalize both with strikes or submission attempts.  Credit to Fuhren there for solid defense as we know Beam isn’t a slouch on the ground!

Fuhren was able to finally cash in with a huge uppercut when back on the feet in the third to finish this thing off.  That was probably a well-timed finish for him as it’s unlikely he wanted to see this go to the judges where the contest was still up for grabs!  He makes a big splash in his return to Middleweight with this win and will be truly tested again at 185 early in June when he gets at it with Luka Marka!

Beam has hit an unbelievable rough patch ever since losing the Middleweight title to Landon McGuire.  He’s now lost four in a row and I personally know a lot of people, inside the org and fans alike, are starting to wonder if he’s lost his confidence and can’t get it back after that loss? Paulo Blikstein is a talented fighter who has come into Sucker Punch with a bit of struggle of his own having suffered a loss to Matsuda and then fighting to a draw a little over a week ago with Jin Yi.  Maybe the contest next month is just what the doctor ordered for either Beam or Blikstein!

Main Card Bout #2:  Middleweights

Obama Filth Defeats Luka Marka via Unanimous Decision

Donkey’s Takeaways:

There’s definitely been some fun back and forth between these two teams since this fight took place.  Both in public as well as behind the scenes with conversations between the teams and Hare.  And of course, as you would expect from Hare, he took the opportunity to use that to stir the pot a bit! The long and short of it is this…Marka’s team feels there was a bit of a mix up in communications between them and Marka during the fight which resulted in the fight not going their way.  They want a rematch and feel confident they will come out on top.  On the other side of the fence, Filth’s new management team has been planning to take some time off to train and modify Filth’s development after getting a chance to see him fight for them.  So while they are good to take a rematch, they want to push that out two or three months before that rematch happens.

All of that has resulted in some fun barbs back and forth with Marka’s squad claiming that Filth is ducking them and Filth’s squad indicating that Marka just needs to be patient.  As Hell’s management put it, “He (Filth)should have knocked the squirrel out into space.”  And, after the training and tune up is complete, “Any squirrel can come after the trainings.”  Even, apparently, the whining ones as they say!  Haha! Now, I'm being told through the grapevine that Mr. Hell is having a bit of fun with Mr. Hardman in offering a "pay to play" scenario for their camp!  You can bet the back and forth until this whole thing is resolved is going to be a friggin' blast. Hell, Mr. Hell was even nice enough to leave his phone number in case further discussions needed to be had!  Bwahahaha!

This fight was really even throughout, although Filth did manage to rock Marka in the first round!  Filth was also the more aggressive fighter as well as landing more shots while standing and boxing.  That said, Marka’s tactics did appear to be off as we know he likes the fight on the ground and there wasn’t nearly the focus on getting it there that we’d have expected.  So, with proper tactics in place, yes folks, when we get a chance to run this one back it’s going to be a blast!!!

Main Card Bout #3: Light Heavyweights

John Fury Defeats Tarmo Rajantaka via KO (Punch)

Donkey’s Takeaways:

At the end of his portion of the preview, Hare said, “Folks…don’t expect anything cute this evening.  Just expect a lot of aggression and serious striking from both sides!  Well, that’s pretty much what you got in yet another fight this evening that had the fans on their feet and rocking the Bondi!  This thing was over before you could blink but in those few moments, twenty-seven seconds to be exact, the action was brutal and fierce!  And resulted in ‘KO of the Night’ honors for Fury.

These two came out firing with Rajantaka going for a mixed attack of shots to the head, body and even a kick thrown in!  Fury on the other hand focused mostly on just flat out trying to take Rajantaka’s head off…and it more or less worked!  After about twenty seconds we got this sequence which was the beginning of the end…!

Fury drops Rajantaka with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Rajantaka looks back up at him and smiles so Fury waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.  Rajantaka is rocked!

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Both fighters step back and shake their arms out. Fury engages and cracks Rajantaka with a massive lead left hook - Rajantaka tumbles to the floor, out cold! What a shot! Fury is delighted - all that hard work in training paid off!

For Fury big things are right on the horizon again!  This win puts him in position to earn a title shot within another couple fights which you know has to be his ultimate goal!  He’ll likely see Lampi next.  For Rajantaka, the loss is a slight setback but against a tough opponent like Fury it won’t be the end of the world.  We’re waiting for the May 1st fights tonight at SPPS 57 to determine who he’ll face next.

Co-Main Event:

Featured Lightweight Bout

Kurt Cobain Defeats Raleigh St. Clair via Split Decision

Donkey’s Takeaways:

While we got exactly what we expected in the fight prior to this I have to tell you that I was very, very surprised that we didn’t get an encore performance with another hard hitting finish in this one!  Especially given that this fight featured two extremely talented strikers again!

Instead we got a fight that even the judges had a difficult time calling as they came out with mixed judging and a split decision call.  One judge, Ron Honeybunn, had the first going to St. Clair but I’ll be honest in that I don’t know how he could call that given Cobain had rocked and dropped St. Clair in the first minute of action. After that and St. Clair’s recovery which took a hell of a lot of heart, this thing went back and forth, back and forth with each trying to get the upper hand.  St. Clair was able to control on the ground but Cobain’s defenses against the strikes were solid which probably helped prevent this fight from being given to St. Clair.

With the win Cobain has earned himself another shot at the title!  He’ll bring his very best to the cage next month against the one, the only, Frankie Logan who waits patiently for his next challenger!  St. Clair, still clearly one of the very best in the division with his only losses being recent ones to both Logan and now Cobain, will get back on the road and a chance to climb up the ladder in a fight with Yip Man in early June!

Main Event:

Featherweight Championship Bout

Brady Jean Baptiste Defeats Michael Aalto via Unanimous Decision

Donkey’s Takeaways:

As one manager I spoke with put it…it was only a matter of time until Aalto finally ran into an opponent who was able to transition out of trouble and nullify Aalto’s submission game. That opponent turned out to be Brady Jean Baptiste in this one folks!  This fight went a full five rounds but was dominated on the cards by Baptiste with an aggressive kickboxing attack that scored plenty of points with the judges.  And, as we said, he was able to stay out of trouble on the ground with a very focused approach to defense.

A lot of fighters out there will tell you that the style of fight that Baptiste brings to the cage can be an extremely frustrating one as they nibble and bite at you throughout en route to a decision.  Clearly even a multi-time champ like Aalto can fall victim to that frustration as with only about a half minute left in the final round he let Baptiste know just  how he felt about things…

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Aalto lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Jean Baptiste has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Jean Baptiste and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

If Baptiste wasn’t about to win the fight, I don’t know if he’d been quite as agreeable in giving a thumbs up so nicely!  Maybe another digit instead? I know this much…Hare was loving this bit of action!

I know how much fans love it when we get a bit of the Juice Fluffer love going after a bit fight like this, so while we didn’t look back on his intro here in the review, let’s at least see his call at the end…!

Juice Fluffer enters the cage as the referee has both fighters in the middle waiting for the call…

“Ladies and gentlemen, after five rounds of action in this Lightweight Championship fight we go to the judges scorecards…”

“Judge Eliza Hachem scores the fight 45:50.

Judge Winston Howard scores the fight 45:50.

And Judge Ben Hemmingworth scores the fight 45:50.”

“Declaring the winner…by way of Unanimouuuus Decisionnnn…ANNNNNNDDDD NEWWWWW…Sucker Punch Pro Series…Lightweight Champion of the World… Braaady…Jeeeeeaaan…BAAAAPTIIIISTE!!!”

So there we have it Sucker Punch fans!

A lot of great action over at the Bondi mid-week for SPPS 56 and boy, was it a fun one!  I hope we’ll see just as many crazy, screaming fans tonight as we head right back over to the Bondi Outdoor Arena for SPPS 57…kicking off in just a few hours!  I’ve been told the fans are already tailgating out in the parking lot and this looks to be a fun one coming up folks!

Till then, have fun and don’t forget…

SUCKER PUNCH PREVIEW

Sucker Punch Pro Series 57

Hello again Sucker Punch fans!  It feels like we were just chatting!  Oh wait, we were, because we’re doing back to back review and previews here today!  Well, let’s get going here then!  As always,  I’m Hare Rumpler and will be alongside my pal and analyst, Donkey “Dan” as we get ready for SPPS 57 over at the Bondi Outdoor Arena in Sydney this evening!

We have a full card in action tonight unlike our earlier mid-week card for SPPS 56 which only had nine fights.  That was still an extremely exciting one…but…here’s where I’m going to make a guarantee for you folks out there!  Tonight…will be even better!  Tonight…we likely set our all-time record event rating!  TONIGHT…we have a great string of fights on tap for you folks and this is the way you get your weekend going!

The Welterweight Championship fight between defending champ Ronnie Bass and challenger Red Crow will highlight the evening but this card is full of great action all the way from our opening Undercard Welterweight battle between Young Prodigy and Baldmir Zsofka all the way up to and through the Co-Main Event between Welterweights Baldomir Barbosa and former champion Juan Christiano!  There are so many great ones on this card that I can hardly pick a couple to highlight folks!  Seriously, I’m that excited for tonight’s action!

So hell, let’s just skip that small talk and get right into after a word about our sponsor and merchandise partner!

1584375781SWN.jpg

Do you find that you’re resting your fighters too often? Two, three, maybe even 4 times a week sometimes?  If that’s the case, you’re probably not supplementing their training, and if you are I’m thinking you’re not doing it with Shadow Warrior Tea 160Q, which is Shadow Warrior Nutrition’s outstanding energy loss reduction supplement.  It’s the best money can buy and will keep your fighter in the gym training rather than sitting days out resting!  Stop on over there today, you will NOT be disappointed!

Now, let's get to it!

Undercard Bout #1: Welterweights

Young Prodigy (2-2-0) v Baldimir Zsofka (1-2-1)

We’ll get things rolling here with two kids who are making me proud as they head into the cage this evening fueled up and confidence on high!  Love it!

Zsofka has struggled since changing management teams to Hugh Saber’s stable and coming to join Sucker Punch with that change.  He’s fallen to Rick Segura via TKO previously and then to Justin Kulina via decision earlier this month.  Zsofka has a strong set of skills on the feet with remarkable boxing and superb Muay Thai along with strong wrestling to supplement his grappling in the clinch.  He’s demonstrated solid kickboxing skills in prior fights, especially the one with Kulina that went the distance, but just hasn’t found a way to turn that success into a ‘W’.  Perhaps tonight that changes?

Prodigy comes into the cage with similar skills as Zsofka.  Perhaps not quite the same level of Muay Thai but he has the edge in boxing.  Also, despite having slightly above average skills in wrestling and Jiu Jitsu he has demonstrated the ability to pull off a submission victory as shown in his last bout with Maximus Jr earlier this month.  He’s on a two fight win streak and undoubtedly is focused on trying to make that the trifecta with a win over Zsofka tonight.  But will he stand and strike or will he bank on his purple belt giving him the edge over Zsofka’s blue and using that as a path to victory again?

Donkey…?

Donkey’s Pick: Prodigy via Submission (Armbar)

You know, I’m tossed on who comes out with this one.  But, we didn’t have any submissions on our last card and you all know I love a good ground game.  So, I’m more making this pick for the fun of it and to get the card started with a submission here!

***********************

Undercard Bout #2: Featherweights

Ebedi vs. Ehrmantraut II

Dino Ebedi (4-3-1) v Mike Ehrmantraut (3-3-0)

Our second fight sees a couple of really great quality Featherweights head into the cage to face off!  Ehrmantraut has now served for as many contests under new manager Knockout Bob as he did under previous manager Kelly McGrady.  As such Bob should have a good feel for what he can and can’t do and where to go from here in terms of continued development.  This past month he’s had a chance to act on those things and it’ll be great to see him get into the cage here tonight against a talented Ebedi.  Will this be another that goes the distance to decision as his prior three under Bob have?!?  Erhmantraut has a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu that makes you think, “This guy’s submission game is only a step away before clicking in!”  Will we see that ‘Click’ tonight?  Perhaps!

Ebedi is extremely talented with remarkable skills across the board and a purple belt in Jiu Jitsu.  But he’s been struggling.  Previously on the fast track to a potential Top Contender status Ebedi slipped in his rematch with Skywalker as we attempted to resolve the prior draw between the two.  Since then he’s struggled to find his path to a win against both Yellow Belt Casey and Nagashima, losing via TKO and submission respectively.

The last time these two met (yes, this is a rematch!) Ebedi managed to get the win via decision after an uber aggressive approach utilizing mostly kickboxing.  Erhmantraut had no interest in the ground game back then.  Will his recent opportunities on the ground change that tonight?

Donkey’s Pick: Ehrmantraut via Submission (Armbar)

I’m doubling down on my chances to get a submission going early on this card and calling for it again here!  Why?  Well, why not!  It’s all in good fun!  And Rob Hell just hates it when I pick against his boys, so why not stir the pot some there as well?  Haha!

***********************

Undercard Bout #3: Light Heavyweights

Rogerio Duarte (10-7-0) v Victor Veidt (4-0-0)

We move on from the opening two Welterweight contests this evening and get into the slightly bigger boys here with a Light Heavyweight match between the one-fight contract, moonlighting Victor Veidt and extremely experienced…and talented…Rogerio Duarte.

Veidt comes in under new management and gives Duarte some action while at the same time getting a chance to test himself after some time off and working with Slick Gunderson.  Under prior management, Veidt was adept at striking both in and out of the clinch.  But he last fought back in October last year so there’s been plenty of time to tune and evolve his skills.  What will we see tonight?  Your guess is as good as ours!

Duarte, much like Veidt, makes his Sucker Punch debut this evening but whereas Veidt is ‘technically’ here on a single fight contract (ha, you know I’ll try to convince him to re-up!) Duarte is starting out a longer term stint with us!  At 10-7 he’s very experienced and we have a lot to go by from his prior adventures in the cage.  His skills are amazingly balanced, with a bit of a lean towards the ground game with sensational wrestling and a brown belt under his…well, belt.   But to think that that means he’ll definitely take the fight to the ground would be a massive, huge mistake!  This man has destroyed his prior two opponents in QFC fights via the standup game with brutal, hard hitting shots while standing and striking!  But, as shown in his fight with Takeishi back with Enigma, he’s more than happy to work the ground and pound game if the fight finds its way to the floor!

Donkey’s Pick: Duarte via TKO (Strikes)

I’ve said many times that a fighter under new management sometimes needs a fight or two to adjust and figure out what’s working and what’s not.  That’s all the advantage that Duarte may need tonight as Veidt is in that new management situation.  That, and he has a ton of experience to fall back on, both leading me to believe that Veidt will have to have an extremely solid game plan to come in and get this win.  Maybe the mask throws Duarte off and turns the tables?

Undercard Bout #4: Light Heavyweights

Lukasz Wieczorek (8-4-0) v Devin Ecker (4-4-0)

Our second of four straight Light Heavyweight contests this evening will have Ecker and Wieczorek going at it!  And both are prepped and ready to go Donkey!  Woot!  And both are also extremely well matched in skill, so this one is going to come down to strategy, build and a little bit of luck perhaps!

Ecker has solid skills across the board but he’s especially dangerous on the ground with his sensational wrestling and purple belt in Jiu Jitsu.  He’s done ok when forced to stand and strike in the past, but typically against a true striker the end result doesn’t end up in his favor as in the two fights with Rourke and Tribute.  However, when he can get the fight to the ground and control the action he’s brutal with his striking and loves to dish out that ground and pound in a bigtime, effective way!  Just ask Dolph Lindgren from last month and Titus Fury from back around Christmas!

Wieczorek has a similar skill set to that of Ecker but his slight edge is in Muay Thai while Ecker’s is that wrestling bit.  Historically Wieczorek has preferred to stand and strike, mostly using his boxing, so that’s something Ecker will need to be wary of.  Wieczorek will want to take advantage of Ecker’s struggles against pure strikers in the past and keep this fight on the feet most likely.  Under his third management team in his past three fights, Wieczorek is led to the cage this evening by Alexei Smirnov and camp.  That may throw a bit of a wrench into things as figuring out a new fighter can take a fight or two.  But it also introduces some unknowns and uncertainty for the other side as well!

Donkey’s Pick: Ecker via TKO (Strikes)

In such a closely matched fight I have to look to the little things and in this one I’m going to lean on the inexperience together between the management team of Smirnov and Wieczorek.  That slight adjustment period may give Ecker the little edge he needs this evening!

***********************

Undercard Bout #5: Light Heavyweights

Dolph Lindgren (5-7-0) v Aleks Kuznetsov (5-7-0)

Moving on to our last of the Undercards this evening and our third of four straight Light Heavyweight contests here we’ve got a fight that on any other card would very much be on the Main Card portion of things!  Woot!  You have to love what that means about the overall event tonight!

Kuznetsov is a former champ in the Light Heavyweight division here at Sucker Punch but has been struggling a bit ever since losing the belt in his first title defense against Jacob Parker.  After that he lost a TKO to John Doe and then dropped one via submission to Bjorn Akerfeldt.  Last month was a huge bounce back move for him though as he downed Lukasz Wieczorek under the former management of Grumpy Bastard.  That’s a hugely solid win right there and gets Kuznetsov back on the right track for sure!  Expect Kuznetsov to try to keep this fight on the feet where he’s most comfortable as he works his kickboxing game against Lindgren.

Lindgren has been hot and cold over the past four months with a win over Slamcock but then teetering between a loss to Doe, a win to Fury and a loss to Ecker.  Being that Lindgren typically prefers a pure striking approach, with a few leg kicks thrown in for good measure, you can expect that he’s not going to want to drive this fight to the ground any more than Kuznetsov will.  Instead, this should be a stand up, hand throwing affair all night long for these two…or at least, for as long as it lasts!

Donkey’s Pick: Kuznetsov via Unanimous Decision

With both having 5-7 records, similar skills and similar approaches this is about as closely fought a match as you can expect.  Or at least that’s how I see it.  I’m giving the edge to Kuznetsov in this one mainly due to a more varied attack as he uses the full range of kickboxing which could make the difference and allow him to steal this one from the judges.

Main Card Bout #1: Light Heavyweights

Bloode vs. Akerfeldt II

Choctaw Bloode (8-4-0) v Bjorn Akerfeldt (5-4-0)

Our last of the Light Heavyweight battles for the evening will be how we open up the Main Card!  And boy, is this a great one!  Talk about two differing styles between excellent fighters and really, really tough managers!

Akerfeldt had a hell of a run going for a bit and looked to be on the fast track to title contention until he ran into fellow ground specialist Wille Thai who bested him by dishing out the first submission loss of Akerfeldt’s career.  He then went on to be dispatched in the first round by perennial contender and former Light Heavyweight champion Jacob Parker.  Those are two tough matches but tonight Akerfeldt gets a chance to put things back on course and also avenge a prior loss in a battle with Bloode.  Granted, Bloode is under new management, so that adds a wrinkle or two!  There is no secret here…Akerfeldt will want this on the ground and be working for a submission utilizing his wonderful wrestling and brown belt in Jiu Jitsu.

As we just mentioned, Bloode comes in under new management as he was dropped by G Wad after a loss to Eemeli Lampi last month.  It was his first fight here at Sucker Punch and apparently enough that G Wad had seen something that put him off.  He’s now managed by Action Jackson and if anybody can bring a guy back and turn him into a beast at this weight class it’d be Mr. Jackson (full disclosure, an alliance mate of mine).  With exceptional boxing, sensational Muay Thai and wonderful wrestling expect Bloode to try to keep this fight standing, perhaps utilizing some serious counter striking against Akerfeldt’s takedown attempts and a solid approach to ground defense if it does make it to the floor.

Donkey’s Pick: Akerfeldt via Submission (Kimura)

Again, a tightly fought contest and I’m making this pick due to once again a new manager being involved and the chances that it may take a fight or two to work out some kinks in the fighter’s game and approach.  That said, this could easily go to Bloode as well as he has a prior win over Akerfeldt and Akerfeldt has fallen to pure strikers before!

***********************

Main Card Bout #2:  Welterweights

Samuel Sanchez (7-3-0) v John Fuller (7-5-0)

Moving right along here our second fight of the Main Card will have Welterweights Fuller and Sanchez getting in there and getting at it!  With almost identical skills and very similar records and experience, this is a great matchup that I can’t wait to see!

Fuller had been on a tear recently as he ripped through Costune, Jones and then even got past up and comer Maximus Jr.  However, his path to glory was put on a mild detour when he ran into Baldomir Barbosa in what was a bid to get a Top Contender battle with Juan Christiano. Barbosa came out on top via TKO and will now face Christiano tonight in the Co-Main Event for a future title shot.  But enough about them, this is about Fuller…and Sanchez!  Fuller will do what it takes to win…whether that be stand and strike, or take advantage of both his striking and submission skills on the ground if you let him get it there!  Sanchez is going to need to be prepared for a full range attack this evening!

This will get interesting this evening as Sanchez has wonderful wrestling and a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu.  And while he will stand and strike on the feet much like Fuller, he certainly doesn’t mind getting that fight to the ground and attempting to use his ground and pound skills to work out a KO or TKO!  But he needs to get the top position as he hasn’t shown a tendency to work submissions.

Donkey’s Pick: Fuller via Submission (Guillotine)

This is a contest between two very likeminded individuals with perhaps Sanchez having a bit more focus on striking while Fuller has a much more mixed bag of skills, especially on the ground.  I’m going with the chance that Sanchez gets top position on the ground but maybe doesn’t stay wary enough of the subs from Fuller in the process tonight.

***********************

Main Card Bout #3: Featherweights

Herve Cabrera (8-2-0) v Destin Craven (8-3-0)

We’ve got more than a few quality fighters in the Featherweight division with quite a few vying to get into contender status for a title shot!  These two are certainly no exception and are both very close to putting themselves back into that picture again.  But…first they have to focus on this fight with big things coming from it!

Destin is a former Top Contender who had a title shot against Michael Aalto back in December.  He fell short in that one losing via a spectacular Head Kick TKO…something he’d probably rather I didn’t bring up.  Since then he’s been back and forth but mostly moving forward with a win over Jack Sparrow and then a loss to Jake Drake.  Most recently though he’s come away from his fight with Mike Ehrmantraut with a ‘W’ and is looking to get his name back into the TC picture.  A win over a serious competitor like Herve Cabrera who is also a former contender would certainly help that process along, especially with both having very similar records!

Cabrera was on a hell of a roll coming into Sucker Punch with three wins prior to arriving and then extended that streak to five with wins over Ehrmantraut and Heismann Haa!  However, he lost his fight with Brady Jean Baptiste earlier this month in a bid to get a title shot and instead saw Baptiste move on to grab the title from Aalto.  A win over a quality fighter like Craven would put him one step away from a title shot yet again…something Cabrera is likely thinking about but trying to push to the back of his thoughts as he tries to focus on this one!

Donkey’s Pick: Cabrera via Submission (Triangle)

I notice that Hare left it to me to talk about the actual fight here.  Both are big time submission artists and I expect this fight to end up on the ground for sure.  Who wins? You’ve got me.  Both are quality fighters with Top Contender potential and both have proven their worth on the ground time and again.  Flip a coin or just enjoy the show folks!

Co-Main Event:

Featured Welterweight Bout

Juan Christiano (9-3-0) v Baldomir Barbosa (8-4-0)

Alright, here we go Donkey!!!  Our Co-Main Event and it’s certainly worth of that recognition as this one is for Top Contender status and will determine which of these two gets a title shot against…yes, the winner of the Main Event tonight which is a title fight!

Barbosa, led by Slick Gunderson, is back on a roll again with a trifecta of wins heading into this Top Contender battle.  He’s defeated quality opponents in Marchionni, Mandinos and Fuller ever since his loss to Ronnie Bass.  Yes, the same Bass who has gone on to win the belt since!  With five wins in his last six fights Barbosa remains hot and will need every bit of that confidence and mental toughness tonight, along with his considerable striking skills, to best his competition in former Welterweight champ Juan Christiano!

Let by Action Jackson, Christiano is a beast and is a former Welterweight champion both here at Sucker Punch and formerly at Checkmate.  He defeated Igor Vovchanchyn previously for the belt here at SPPS after coming in and defeating Lukas Reeves and Luka Marka.  Then he defended successfully against Psiris Fuhren before falling via KO to power punching Ronnie Bass in the third round back in February.  With two months to train in between due to determining who would be next up for a TC fight Christiano has had time to consider his approach and make any tweaks he wanted to. But be prepared, he can still strike with the best of them and that’s something I think we all look forward to as the combination of Christiano/Barbosa is about as exciting as it gets for somebody who loves a good slobberknocker!

Donkey’s Pick: Christiano via TKO (Strikes)

I’m going to go with Christiano here not out of a lack of respect for Barbosa but out of respect for a former Champ who defended that title successfully.  That says something and I have to consider it an edge.  But folks, if you love hard hitting action, this is NOT one to miss tonight and you know as well as I do that when strikers are involved, well, anything can happen!

Main Event:

Welterweight Championship Bout

Ronnie Bass (11-1-0) v Red Crow (8-2-1)

Our Main Event of the evening Donkey!!!  Woot!  Hard hitting, two-time defending Champion Bass will attempt to defend yet again against hungry Red Crow who has been working towards this opportunity for a long time!

Crow has been on a tear for six straight fights now and has just run through a ton of great competition.  If not for the somewhat rough start to his career he’d have made it to this point much faster but he’s been taking the steady, hard-working, prove your way approach to the championship opportunity here before him!  Crow is a fairly aggressive, hard hitting fighter who loves to use leg kicks to slow down his opponents.  He’s also not afraid to work the ground and pound if the fight ends up on the mat.  It will be interesting to see what he does to adjust for the power punching game that Bass brings to the table tonight!  Does he try to stay aggressive, outlasting the champ and working for points and decision, or does he switch to a more counter style to catch the hard-striking Bass and use his kicks to slow him down as he’s done previously?

There’s really not a lot to guess about Bass’ approach.  The trick isn’t trying to figure him out…the trick is trying to do something about it!  Bass, as we’ve already said several times, is a harder than hard striker who will put his fist through one side of your head and out the other!  He doesn’t need a lot of shots to put you down…he just needs to land the right one. He’s done it to other strikers before.  More than once.  Costune.  Barbosa.  Christiano.  Vovchanchyn.  You name them.  Line them up…he’s put them down.  Some more than once.  So if Crow plans to stand and strike…well, he better come prepared.  Perhaps he does rely upon the ground and pound game instead?  That’s something that Bass should be prepared to defend against.

Donkey’s Pick:  Bass via KO (Punch)

I said this in the last fight about Barbosa and I’ll say it again here about Crow.  This isn’t to disrespect Crow.  He’s a talented fighter.  This is out of respect for the Champ and the fact that he’s gotten here twice and now defended.  He’s tough as nails.  He’s a serious challenge.  I’m not saying he can’t be beaten, but he’s not to be taken for granted by any stretch.  Crow has his work cut out for him.  As Bass’ own bio reads…accurately… “2x SPPS champ. Fists of steel. Just finds a way to win. The longer you stand and bang with him the more likely you're going to sleep.  Crow had better find a way to make that NOT be the way it goes if he wants this one!

Awesome, fantastic job at SPPS 57 last night Sucker Punch family!!!! I mean, wow, first, let me tell you how friggin' happy I saw to see that EVERY.  SINGLE.  FIGHTER showed up full on energy (or within 5%, which is there for me) and the same with morale!!!  WHAT A JOB CREW!!!  Seriously, that's the best I can ask for, to come to the cage ready to go and ready to give it your absolute best shot...and it showed.  We got our highest rated event to date out of it and...moved from #10 org in the game to #9 worldwide!  Now, you guys probably know I don't worry too, too much about the ratings and all, I really just want to spend my time worrying more about whether I'm communicating with you guys, keeping it fun, etc.  But I won't lie, the ratings obviously do matter some as well and it's really cool to see them come in like that!

I expect our next event is going to give this one a run for it's money in terms of rating afterward.  SPPS 58 should be another great one.  We'll take a step back after that for SPPS 59 with no titles on the line and quite a few lower hyped fights, but hey, you don't get the bigger hyped fights without helping all our crew develop and work towards bigger and better things!  So regardless of rating, that will still be another fun, important event for us and the fighters on it!

Anyways, onwards and upwards folks!  You guys are rocking this thing, as always and I'm so appreciative.  Also, remember, if you know somebody who's looking for contracts, we're always here and listening.  We're always on the lookout for guys to help increase the size of our Featherweight, Lightweight and Heavyweight divisions especially, but we also will take on good quality guys who are ready to come prepared in all of our divisions!  Take care all!

Risa Roo Reviews...

Sucker Punch Pro Series 57!

How’s it hanging Sucker Punch gang? Risa here, back at it again with another review. Hare told me this event was a pretty good one for Sucker Punch with lots of very good fights, so I’m not exactly sure why I was put in charge of this review, but nonetheless here we go!

***********************

Undercard Bout #1: Welterweights

Young Prodigy Defeats Baldimir Zsofka via Unanimous Decision

Fight one of the Night! It was between Young Prodigy and Baldimir Zsofka. The fight had started a bit slow but quickly picked up speed. Young Prodigy dominated the first round. Young Prodigy sounds like another shitty Soundcloud rapper from high school. I knew a couple of them, they thought they were hot shit for making bad music. Young Prodigy also dominated the second round of the fight. Wowzers. Prodigy was on a roll. In the first two rounds Prodigy initiated a handful of clinches, but none had any impressively significant effect on Zsofka who broke all of them fairly quickly. Toward the end of round three Prodigy clearly didn’t want to leave the results of the fight up to the judges and went for a number of failed submission attempts. Despite the failed sub attempts, Prodigy took the win. Ayo, W season.

***********************

Undercard Bout #2: Featherweights

Ebedi vs. Ehrmantraut II

Dino Ebedi and Mike Ehrmantraut Fight to Majority Draw

Fight two! It’s between Dino Ebedi and Mike Ehrmantraut. In a fight between a Dino and Pop-pop, my money is on the Dino. Donkey picked Pop-pop to win, but he’s a jackass (punny) anyway so I don’t have to agree with him. The fight lasted all three rounds and was a pretty exciting and engaging fight. Both fighters put up strong showings and it was clear by the end that the result could go either way. Clearly the judges felt the same and decided to be indecisive, making it a majority draw. Guess this fight was too evenly matched.

***********************

Undercard Bout #3: Light Heavyweights

Rogerio Duarte Defeats Victor Veidt via TKO (Strikes)

Fight 3. It was between Rogerio Duarte and Victor Veidt. Veidt is dressed like he should be walking around an amusement park convincing kids he’s a superhero until the parents find out he doesn’t even work there and is just some creepy old guy talking to their kids. Wack. Little sus bro. Fight goes off and Duarte immediately went into a clinch. Man knows his strengths and goes straight for em I guess, respect for the grind bro. First round and Duarte gets ROCKED!! Nasty uppercut from Veidt rocks Duarte’s shit. Duarte survived the rest of the round though, and they were off into round two. Duarte seemed to have recovered and both fighters were going at it. Nearly the end of the round and BOOM! Veidt is rocked! How’s that revenge taste, Veidt? Duarte pounds Veidt into the mat until the referee pulls him off. TKO! Sheesh. Nice job bro.

***********************

Undercard Bout #4: Light Heavyweights

Lukasz Wieczorek Defeats Devin Ecker via KO (Strikes)

Fight four. This one was between Lukasz Wieczorek and Devin Ecker. Both fighters are sporting some interesting haircuts to say the least. Hey Ecker, for long hair I recommend L’Oreal 5-1 repair with Keratin Oil (not an ad). Works like a charm and makes your hair so soft. This fight was another pretty good one with lots of good action. The fight only lasted a round and a half before… BAM! BOP! POW POW POW! Wieczorek nails Ecker with a nasty uppercut and quickly finishes the job. KO!!! Boom! Get wrecked Ecker. In Ecker’s post fight interview he mentioned “RIP DMX!” Period. Rest in peace, X Gon Give It To Ya will live in infamy.

***********************

Undercard Bout #5: Light Heavyweights

Aleks Kuznetsov Defeats Dolph Lindgren via Unanimous Decision

Fight 5!! It’s between Dolph Lindgren and Aleks Kuznetsov. Ya know, I was excited for this fight. Both of these guys look like they’ve seen some shit. Andddddd we’re off! Ouch! Lindgren gets cut by an elbow to the head from Kuznetsov. Kuznetsov seemed to dominate all three rounds of the fights, as our lovely commentators mentioned a couple times in between their product placements. Get that check bro. The judges clearly agreed, and the win went to Kuznesov. He thanked the fans, how sweet of him. Despite being a loser, Lindgren also thanked his fans and his sponsor (always plug bro, get that check).

***********************

Main Card Bout #1: Light Heavyweights

Bloode vs. Akerfeldt II

Bjorn Akerfeldt Defeats Choctaw Bloode via Submission (Triangle)

Fight 6!! This fight was between Choctaw Bloode and Bjorn Akerfeldt. This was one of the less exciting fights of the night. Not a ton of back-and-forth action in the just over three minutes that the fight lasted. Akerfeldt knew his strategy had to be to get a submission I guess because he went for it over and over and over and over and over and over until he finally locked in a triangle and forced Bloode to tap. That’s a rough one Bloode. Hey Akerfeldt. Maybe mix in a lil bit more fighting next time instead of just a series of failed sub attempts?

***********************

Main Card Bout #2:  Welterweights

John Fuller Defeats Samuel Sanchez via Unanimous Decison

Fight 7! This one was between Samuel Sanchez and John Fuller. This fight wasn’t my favorite fight of the night. For starters, Samuel Sanchez and John Fuller are both pretty boring names. Not fun to write AND I can’t choose who to cheer for based on names like I normally do. What am I supposed to do now, base it on how they fight? No thank you. The fight went all three rounds and ended up going to the scorecards. Both fighters were basically fighting for a decision anyway, boring names boring end to the fight, I guess. Fuller took the win. Then had a little ego-fest in his post-fight interview. Calm yourself pal, you’re not the best in the world that’s for sure.

***********************

Main Card Bout #3: Featherweights

Herve Cabrera Defeats Destin Craven via Submission (Armbar)

Fight numero 8! It was between Herve Cabrera and Destin Craven. This fight was better than the last two (thankfully) and lasted until just past the minute mark of the second round. Both fighters warmed it up with a little bit of BOP BOP POW (yes, that’s the technical term for it). Toward the end of round one Craven went for a couple sub attempts, but nothing stuck. Beginning of round two, Cabrera also went for a couple sub attempts. Guess he saw Craven’s strategy and decided to hop on that trend. Poser. Cabrera locked one in though! Armbar! Craven tapped. He didn’t want the smoke.

***********************

Co-Main Event:

Featured Welterweight Bout

Juan Christiano Defeats Baldomir Barbosa via Unanimous Decision

Fight 9! It’s between Juan Christiano and Baldomir Barbosa. Barbosa was the captain of the Black Pearl. I didn’t know he had family who fought MMA. That’s pretty neat. Learn something new every day. Here we go. Bam! Christiano got cut right out of the gate. Yuck, that’s nasty. Both fighters were really out there working the fight, by the end of round two it seemed the fight could go either way. Third round both fighters were really fighting for the decision. Should have knocked each other out instead, that would have been cooler. End of the fight, Christiano takes the win. Sucks to be Barbosa right now, I wouldn’t want to be in that car ride home with his manager.

Main Event:

Welterweight Championship Bout

Red Crow Defeats Ronnie Bass via Unanimous Decision

Last fight of the night! CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHHHHHH! It was between the champ, Ronnie Bass, and the Red Crow. Yo Red Crow, what’s up my guy? It’s been a while since I reviewed one of your fights. How’s it hanging? Now, Donkey picked Bass to win this fight. If I had to pick, I would have disagreed with Donkey. Mostly just to disagree with Donkey though, we have beef. He’s mean to me all the time. Also, to back my boy Crow though, we’re homies. I just decided that we’re homies. Unfortunately, Donkey’s prediction of a KO win wasn’t true. I love KOs. They’re so exciting. The fight lasted all five rounds. Looked exhausting, I would have been tired after one round of fighting. Good thing I’m the reviewer and not the fighter. Both fighters really gave it their all, though it was clear Crow was dominating the whole time. No surprise when he won in a unanimous decision. WOOOOO! New champ! Wow, what a way to end the night.

***********************

So there we have it Sucker Punch fans!

The action was intense, the fighters were thoroughly prepared…and this review wasn’t quite as thorough or prepared as all of that apparently!  Well, you get what you get when Risa gets involved! Haha.  Hope everybody’s ready for more action coming at you this weekend from the Bondi again for SPPS 58!

Till then, have fun and don’t forget…

SUCKER PUNCH PREVIEW

Sucker Punch Pro Series 58

Well folks, I’m Donkey and I’ll be here with you this evening and I’ll be joined by…well, are you sitting down? Yeah, you guessed it…Hare ditched on us due to a bunch of “real life work” he has had on his plate this week at that place that really pays the bills!  And what does that mean for us for tonight you may ask?  Well, that means that you’re stuck with me running the show.  Sorta.  Now, if it’s not bad enough that he stuck us with Risa Roo doing the review from SPPS 57 earlier this week, then you’d better be holding onto your shorts.  Because he’s now sicced his 15 year old high school freshman daughter upon us as the main preview person for tonight’s fights at SPPS 58!  And yes, she knows next to nothing about MMA other than the ranting and raving she hears from Hare now and then!  So  hold on tight folks, it’s likely to be a bumpy ride.  But never fear, I’ll be right along with you folks as I’m going to still be doing Donkey’s Picks this evening!  Now, how about a word from Nati Batti before we go to our sponsors and get into the meat of this thing…

Sorry for the lack of a poster this evening folks.  As I said, Hare is being a downright slacker!

Ok, well, it looks like Nati has nothing to say to open things up, so we’ll just move on and get to the fights themselves after, of course, a word about our sponsor and merchandise partner!

Undercard Bout #1: Heavyweights

Jairzinho Teixeira (8-5-0) v Dalton Swas (5-6-0)

Nati's Take:

Hello friends and welcome! Hare’s daughter, Nati here. To start us off tonight is a heavyweight fight between Jairzinho "Iron Fists" Teixeira and Dalton Swas. Both of these guys have been up and down lately, with a good mix of wins and losses. Both guys are also coming into this fight with a lot of energy and a wide range of talents. Swas has a bit of an advantage over Teixeira in wrestling but I don’t think that’s going to help him much with fighting off Teixeira’s many talents and weight advantage. Combine that with Swas’s lower morale and I think it becomes pretty clear who the favorite should be, which is probably why Teixeira seems to be the fan favorite anyways.

Donkey’s Pick: Teixeira via TKO (Strikes)

Everybody knows I typically pick against a guy who comes in less than prepared unless something overwhelmingly makes me believe otherwise.  That’s the case here as Swas comes in with less than ideal morale.  He’s here on a one fight deal to give Teixeira some action and from what I’ve been told by our marketing and finance crews he’s making a pretty decent penny tonight for just showing up, much less potentially winning.  I don’t think the winning bonus is going to be at risk though.  Teixeira showed last month that he was starting to put things together with his boxing as he dropped Ballsawash in the first round.  He’s going to have to watch out for Swas’ ability to grab a submission, but even then Teixeira should be able to handle himself well enough to keep this from turning into an ‘L’.  With two losses in bookended by wins over Ballsawash, Teixeira would really like to double up on the wins and get a streak going after this fight!

***********************

Undercard Bout #2: Heavyweights

Devin Hill (5-3-0) v Ultima Kekkonen (2-3-0)

Nati's Take:

For our second fight of the night we should have a much more exciting match up for the heavyweights.  Hill and Kekkonen, who seems to be just an off-brand Kevin Owens, have very similar fighting abilities and styles. Hill has a bit more fighting experience to back him and 13 pounds on our fake KO, not a good thing for Kekkonen. With the crowd cheering for him, Hill should be amped up and ready to take down Kekkonen tonight. Although, a few hits to the face wouldn’t hurt Hill. At least then he’d have a reason for looking funny.

Donkey’s Pick: Hill via Unanimous Decision

This fight is truly one of the best matched fights of the night as Kekkonen and Hill are just about even across the board in every primary area of MMA!  With wonderful skills in each area of standup and ground skills it’s a really tough call here.  Kekkonen took an extremely tough Krol into the third round in his last fight.  He couldn’t win it, but he gave it a great go.  Hill went halfway into a fourth round with the BEAST that is none other than Chontamenti as he challenged for the title last month, something that’s impressive beyond belief!  Before that he had five wins in a row.  While Kekkonen certainly impressed in his last fight, we have to wonder if Hill’s experience against Chontamenti has him fired up, leading a win here as I’m calling it, or will it leave him a bit beaten down despite a month of recovery?  Tonight we find out in a great fight that gets us going really early on the card!

***********************

Undercard Bout #3: Heavyweights

Zygmunt Krol (4-3-0) v Hero Shima (3-3-0)

Nati's Take:

Moving on, we’ve got fight number 3 of the night. Yet another heavyweight fight. Zygmunt "Captain Covfefe" Krol vs Hero Shima "The Bomb" has to be one of the more evenly matched fights we’ve got going here.  With almost identical skills and fighting records, it’s hard to tell who has the advantage. On this one I’ll have to give it to Krol, simply because he is slightly taller than Shima and outweighs him by about 5 pounds. Not to mention he is much more intimidating in appearance alone. Shima looks like someone you’d want to give a hug while Krol is the kind you avoid at all costs. Nonetheless, we should see a good mix of fighting styles and lots of action from these two tonight.

Donkey’s Pick: Krol via TKO (Strikes)

Hare’s own alliance mates have a good ole fashioned throw down and square off this evening in the third of our Heavyweight fights to start the evening!  Shima, led by Carlos Castenada, is one of those fighters you have to truly be wary of as he’s just as likely to tag you and win on the feet as he is to drop this thing to the mat and snag a victory there.  He was on a roll until he unexpectedly lost to a tough as nails Murphy last month and with it gave up a shot at the title.  Krol also lost to Murphy two fights back and that means that Murphy overcame two of the division’s top fighters to earn his title shot.  Not too shabby.  Krol bounced back after that with a big win last month over Kekkonen and has won three of his last four.  As Krol’s bio states… “My hammer hands smash your face........or you smash mine, one or the other.  Action Jackson will be looking to overcome the challenge from his Yabai mate Castenada this evening as these two managers send some of their best guys into the cage against one another!  I’m going with Krol only because I know Action Jackson absolutely excels at the heavyweight class with his guys!

***********************

Undercard Bout #4: Featherweights

Luke Skywalker (7-5-1) v Jihadi Joseph (3-1-0)

Nati's Take:

Finally, we get a nice break from the heavyweights with a featherweight fight. With tonight’s fight between Luke Skywalker, our favorite jedi, and Jihadi Joseph, we get a nice slapfight between two skinny boys. While Joseph has a bit of height on Skywalker, Skywalker outweighs him by quite a bit and, with their skills being so evenly matched, I’d have to put my money on Skywalker. He’s got more mass to him as well as more fighting experience, 13 fights as opposed to Joseph’s 4. As the crowd roots for Skywalker, I don’t think tonight is going to work out very well in Jihadi Joseph’s favor. Better luck next time.

Donkey’s Pick: Skywalker via Unanimous Decision

Joseph won his Sucker Punch debut last month by defeating Kongsangchai in the first few seconds of the third round via TKO.  That pushed his overall to 3-1 and with it showed he was more than capable in the Featherweight division after moving up a weight class when he joined us. He’ll be closely matched in skill across the board by Skywalker who has been led to two wins in a row by manager Luiz Torres.  Skywalker lost two in a row previously but those fights were to the champion at the time, Michael Aalto and former champ Kurt Cobain.  No shame there.  He’s won five of six prior to that with only a draw being the outstanding fight.  This is a really tough fight to pick due to the closely matched skills and while I’m going to lean towards Skywalker due to overall record and experience…and the fact that he’s fighting for a potential title shot soon…it is very difficult to overlook the fact that Joseph is led by none other than former #1 ranked and current #19 overall manager in the game, Alex K.!

***********************

Undercard Bout #5: Lightweights

Guy River (5-3-0) v Repus Revorg (4-2-0)

Nati's Take:

Up next, the last fight on the undercard (or last fight of the losers, as I like to call them). We are looking at our first and only lightweight fight of the night. River vs Revorg, the battle of the R names, should be a close one. River may have a bit of talent on Revorg in most skills, but Revorg may be looking to get River to submit. Being a brown belt in BJJ, it’s a bit surprising he hasn’t won a fight by submission yet. But hey, first time for everything I suppose. And yes, maybe River has more fans and more experience, but what fun is fighting if the underdog never wins? You know who my money is on. Go Revorg! (P.S. Just found out this is Hare’s guy. More of a reason to cheer for him.)

Donkey’s Pick: River via TKO (Strikes)

Hare’s going to want to have my head here but I just can’t give his boy the nod this evening.  While this fight looks on paper to be a closely matched fight where River will have the standup skill advantage and Revorg may have a ground advantage, the fact remains that River is considerably older, has quite the advantage in registered MMAT ID and Revorg has never actually secured a victory on the ground.  So, I’m not so sure about that being an advantage there!  We’ll see how this one plays out, but I don’t think this ends up nearly as close as some might call it.  A win here would secure River a title shot if he feels he’s ready for it!

***********************

Main Card Bout #1: Welterweights

Igor Vovchanchyn (6-4-1) v Ispa Perkele (10-5-0)

Nati's Take:

Finally, we get to move on to the main card. Card of winners and cool people if you will. I think we can tell simply because the last names have immediately gotten spicier. Yes, Perkele may weigh more, be more popular, has much more experience, and is a better wrestler, but other than that he really doesn’t have anything of Vovchanchyn. And if we are being honest, Vovchanchyn’s last name is much more fun so, by default, I must cheer for him. They’ve got pretty even skill sets, but even there I’d give the advantage in most of them to Vovchanchyn. Although, he might want to watch out for Perkele’s 100% TKO rate on his wins. That’s a little scary. All in all though, this Welterweight fight will be a very exciting way to start off the main card.

Donkey’s Pick: Perkele via TKO (Strikes)

Another closely matched fight tonight with the skills almost mirroring each other across the board!  This is about four or five fights like this this evening and I’m beginning to feel like maybe this is why Hare baled on us for the evening!  Vovchanchyn is  a former champ who had another title shot last month but came up short against Ronnie Bass.  I’ve heard through the grapevine that he’s considering a move down a class to Lightweight after this so this may be the last time we see him at Welterweight!  He’s a striker who has shown some susceptibility to being KO’d himself at times.  Perkele went to a tough decision with Crow last month, losing the fight with the judges but ultimately ending up losing to the eventual champion as Crow went on to win the title this month!  That says a lot about Perkele’s ability to really scrap but his skills will be put to the ultimate test tonight by a very tough Vovchanchyn!

***********************

Main Card Bout #2:  Heavyweights

Ashwin Tyson (6-2-0) v Herleifr Conchobhar (9-4-0)

Nati's Take:

Up next for fight number 7, Ashwin Tyson and Herleifr Conchobhar will battle it out in the first heavyweight fight on the main card. Before we look at the stats, if we go just based on how fun of names they have, Conchobhar would have this one by a landslide… although I don’t like him as much now that I’ve seen his profile. Why is he smiling like that? Please stop. That’s weird. Anyways, this match appears to be pretty all over the place. Tyson has both a height and weight advantage on Conchobhar, but Conchobhar has a bit more experience with 13 past fights opposed to Tyson’s 8.  I think if Conchobhar can get Tyson to the ground, he’ll have a good chance at winning this. I’m not sure that’s going to be easy though and Tyson may win before Conchobhar even has a chance. I’ll go with Tyson for this one, but it’s pretty up in the air, so I’ll really be leaving this up to Donkey.

Donkey’s Pick: Conchobhar via TKO (Strikes)

These two Heavyweights are both trying to establish themselves as some of the best in the division here at Sucker Punch!  Whoever can pull this out tonight will immediately propel themselves upwards while the other takes a bit of a step back into the crowd.  Tyson will have the Muay Thai advantage while Conchobhar is the better boxer while also having an advantage in Jiu Jitsu.  With two wins in a row, Conchobhar is on a roll and has been winning by going the distance or ending it early.   There’s no telling what he’s bringing to the cage other than an aggressive boxing attack!  Tyson is brand new to Sucker Punch after changing management teams and now heading into the cage with the Johansson crew.  He’d lost two in a row under prior management and as I’ve said multiple times, sometimes it takes a fight or two under new management to get a feel for things.  He’s a big time striker as well, so know that this is going to be quite the slugfest this evening!

***********************

Main Card Bout #3: Light Heavyweights

Jacob Parker (7-2-0) v Eemeli Lampi (6-2-0)

Nati's Take:

Fight number 8 will be a light heavyweight, and the last fight of the night before we move into the title matches. This fight between Jacob Parker and Eemeli Lampi is quite important, or so I’ve been told. If Parker wins, he will get a title fight. If Lampi wins, he will get a shot at earning himself a title fight.  Both of these guys are talented fighters with similar amounts of experience to back them up. Parker has a bit of height on Lampi, but Lampi outweighs him so I’ll give the physical advantage to Lampi for that.  Both of these guys are coming into this with high morales and hopes to win, but Parker seems to be a little better in almost all of the fighting styles and has developed a habit of winning by TKO, so Lampi better watch out for that one. Despite having a bit of a funny face, I think I’ll give this fight to Parker as I expect he will win by TKO once again. (P.S. Just found out that Parker was a former champion. That gives me more faith in my pick.)

Donkey’s Pick: Parker via TKO (Strikes)

There’s a ton on the line here for these two Light Heavyweights this evening as title fights loom on the horizon for the eventual winner.  Possibly.  If Parker wins tonight, he’ll earn his way back to a shot to regain his title in a fight against the winner of Doe/Bolt which takes place on May 22.  However, should he lose, Lampi will likely get a shot against John Fury to establish himself as the potential next title challenger…unless Fury can put a stop to that and claim that prize for himself!  So needless to say, both of these guys are going to be bringing their ‘A’ game this evening.  Lampi just lost a title bid to John Doe last month but it was the first true loss of his career outside an early test fight.  Also the only decision of his career as he’d won via TKO or KO in all of his other wins!  Parker also loves to throw down, so this fight should find both of them standing and striking with Parker also looking to earn his way back to avenge a loss against Doe who stole his belt!  Both of these men have beef with Doe…but who in this division doesn’t?  Let the slaughter begin in this last fight before the Main Events!

Co-Main Event:

Heavyweight Championship Bout

Thoth Chontamenti (10-1-0) v Patrick Murphy (8-2-0)

Nati's Take:

Fight number 9, and the co-main event, will be the first title match of the night and they will be fighting to be heavyweight champion. Off the bat I’m going to bet on Chontamenti. The dude’s defending champion, has a much cooler last name, a better picture, and is both taller and heavier than Murphy is. I’m not really sure what’s going on with Murphy, maybe he’s just taken too many blows to the face at this point, but he’s not looking so good in his profile. Besides appearances, Chontamenti’s skills are far better than Murphy’s. I’m not sure how he will win this fight, as it seems he likes to switch that up, possibly just to keep some variety to his fights, but I know he is going to win. Possibly by submission since he has a black belt in BJJ. All I’ll say is that Murphy doesn’t even have a chance. But keep working bud, maybe you’ll get there eventually.

Donkey’s Pick: Chontamenti via TKO (Strikes)

Woooo!  As Hare would say.  Yes, the title is on the line here in the Co-Main Event and this is the one that has the BMF of Sucker Punch, the SPPS Heavyweight Champion of the World, the BEAST known as THOTH…CHONTAMENTI.  He’ll put it all on the line here tonight against a talented Patrick Murphy who has quietly climbed up the ranks and really taken it to just about everybody in his path in an very unassuming way.  I have to think that that’s due to the influence of the well-respected Kelly McGrady, his manager.  Look, I’m not going to sit here and lie like Hare would.  Murphy is the underdog in this matchup.  But ANYBODY up against Chontamenti would be.  That’s just life.  However, let’s not overlook what Murphy has done in taking out some serious competition in Shima, Krol and Kekkonen on his way up the ranks in Sucker Punch!  Those are big-time names and not ones to be taken at all lightly!  And he’s done it by taking them all the distance.  Can he do the same against the Beast tonight?  He has fantastic ground skills, but so does the Beast. And, Chontamenti has fantastic standup skills as well.  The odds are stacked, but even Goliath fell once!  Is tonight Murphy’s night to be David?

Main Event:

Middleweight Championship Bout

McGuire vs. Machado II

Landon McGuire (6-0-0) v Wanderson Machado (10-2-0)

Nati's Take:

For our final fight of the night, we’ve got Landon McGuire vs Wanderson Machado for the middleweight championship. To start off with physical appearance, it is pretty evenly matched between these two. McGuire has a bit of height on Machado but they’re pretty much the same weight and equally funny looking, even if it’s in their own unique ways. Honestly, McGuire 6-0 record is impressive, and he has been defending the title for a while now, but we have to take into account Machado’s experience. He has fought twice as many fights and McGuire and is former champion. You know Machado is coming to this fight looking to take back the middleweight championship from McGuire. With his respectable skillset and the crowd rooting him on, I think Machado might just take this one. Either way, it will be a close one between these two fighters.

Donkey’s Pick:  McGuire via Unanimous Decision

There’s probably only one fight on the planet these days that could top the Heavyweight Championship fight with Thoth carrying the belt into the cage…and that’s this Middleweight battle coming up between current, undefeated, undisputed SPPS Middleweight Champion Landon McGuire against former Champion, now managed by Bwang Jong Sr, one of the best managers in the game (full disclosure, an alliance mate of Hare’s) back looking for his gold!  DRAMA.  If you wanted drama, it’s been delivered by the truckload here this evening!  Ever since Mac Little left the game and Machado spent time training and rediscovering himself under Bwang he’s only been fine tuning and preparing for this moment, his great return. He tested things out last month against Luka Marka and came out on top via KO, picking right up where he left off.  Now, he’s ready to try to regain his throne.  To do so he’ll have to find the secret to defeating McGuire, who has never lost.  McGuire unseated Jim Beam three fights back and then has gone on to defeat the likes of Sean Smith and Wilfred Ainsworth, both extremely talented challengers!  Here’s the thing…Machado has lost to McGuire.  Only the second loss of his career, the first after his loss to Hirst.  He avenged the loss to Hirst.  Will he do the same against McGuire tonight under Bwang Jong’s management?

POST EVENT CHEAP SHOTS

Sucker Punch Pro Series 58

Hey Sucker Punch faithful!  Hare here and welcome back as we get ready to take a peek back at SPPS 58…our second highest rated event to date!  Now, I felt that my youngest, Nati, actually did a fairly nice job on the preview so I’ve given her the chance to step in and do my part for this review with Donkey chiming in for his Takeaways!  So you’ll only hear from me here in the intro and then I’m going to turn it over to those two.

So as I said, this was our second highest rated event to date and a lot of that can be attributed to two monster championship fights on the card in the Main Event slots as well as a bunch of great fights leading up to those.  Fights that I’m thrilled to say mostly involved guys coming to the table ready to rock and roll, fully prepped!  Nicely done folks!  It appears Nati doesn’t have much to say for an intro here and has jumped fight into things, so why don’t we do the same right after a word about our sponsor and merchandise partner!

Undercard Bout #1: Heavyweights

Jairzinho Teixeira Defeats Dalton Swas via TKO (Strikes)

Nati's Take:

Hello and welcome back for my review. For the first fight of the night, we started with a heavyweight match between Jairzinho Texeira and Dalton Swas. Unsurprisingly, Texeira won. This was a relatively quick fight between the two that ended only 2 minutes and 48 seconds into round one by TKO. Swas had a disadvantage all around going into this, so Texeira’s win is hardly a shocker. With Swas taking hit after hit from Texeira, Swas was in trouble early and Texeira ended it with a hard uppercut to Swas that made the ref call the match. I picked Texeira for this one, so that puts me at 100% accuracy after the first fight of the night.

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Swas came into this fight less than prepared and Teixeira made him pay for it from the very first exchange between the two.  Teixeira dropped Swas and mounted him before Swas had time to realize a fight had started!  From there it was all Teixeira as he dropped Swas twice more over the course of the round after letting him back up.  Had it not been for an exhilarating, crowd pleasing head kick KO later in the night there’s a good chance Teixeira would have earned ‘KO of the Night’ honors for this one!  With the win Teixeira has now doubled down on W’s over the past two fights and looks to extend to a three fight streak next month.  His opponent is not yet determined and we’ll probably wait for the May 15 fights to figure that one out.

Swas was here with us on a single fight contract to give Teixeira some action and unfortunately as we’ve discussed didn’t come prepared with his ‘A’ game.  He’ll limp back over to WCF with an extra ‘L’ on his record, making it three losses in his last four fights, but a bit more cash in his and his manager’s pockets for his trouble!

Undercard Bout #2: Heavyweights

Ultima Kekkonen Defeats Devin Hill via Unanimous Decision

Nati's Take:

Up next was a much longer heavyweight fight between Hill and Kekkonen. These two guys had very similar stats going in which made this a pretty hard fight to take a pick on. Unfortunately, off-brand Kevin Owens took Hill by unanimous decision after 3 long rounds of fighting. Both of these guys put up some good fighting and got some pretty good hits in on the other, but in the end my pick for Hill was wrong. Surprising, seeing as Hill was more experienced than Kekkonen. But it is what it is. Both Hill and Kekkonen were good sports though it all and Kekkonen stayed humble, but I’m sure he is looking for bigger fights in the future following a good win. This unfortunately put me at 1 for 2 for my picks.

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Kekkonen walks out with the ‘W’ and turns his stay at Sucker Punch so far into a .500 affair with rotating losses and wins.  We think we know about where he stands in the division at this point and plan to wait for the May 22 fights to potentially pair him with Rock Silva next.  That should be a great quality fight between fairly evenly skilled opponents who are close in MMAT ID.

Hill was rolling right along through the Sucker Punch roster until he started flirting with being in the top echelon of things.  Once that happened and he went up against Chontamenti for the title  e learned there’s still a bit of work to do potentially before he’s ready to be the King!  Kekkonen is no joke either and we see now that Hill may need just a bit more development and confidence before he steps back to these guys.  We think that Meshkov’s management team would like a crack at him and being it’s a good solid skill matchup Hare told me that that’s the fight he’s setting up!  Let’s get it on!

***********************

Undercard Bout #3: Heavyweights

Hero Shima Defeats Zygmunt Krol via Majority Decision

Nati's Take:

The third fight of the night was yet another heavyweight. Zygmont Krol and Hero Shima’s fight was another very evenly matched fight. I believe I chose Krol for this one, but it looks like Shima somehow took the win via a majority decision.  Another long and exciting fight, Hero was cut less than 2 minutes into the fight. That didn’t stop him though and he kept fighting to get Krol back just into the second round. This caused a bit of a distraction for Krol which led Shima to get some real damage in during this round. Opposed to Kekkonen from the previous fight, this win had Shima feeling pretty arrogant as he went on to say he was going to “conquer the world”. Good look with that one bud. This fight has my pick not looking so good anymore. So much for a strong start.

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Shima has only two losses so far in the division since joining Sucker Punch.  The first was his debut where he just seemed a bit off and perhaps not quite ready.  Carlos Castenada, his manager, took an extra month to retool a few things and “BOOM!”, Shima was off and running after that!  His only loss since was a tough decision defeat at the hands of Murphy who went on to fight Chontamenti this month and did his manager damned proud in that one!  Murphy fell, as you’ll read later, via Submission but I’ll be damned if he wasn’t winning the hell out of that fight up to that point!  The point here is, Shima has only lost really in recent history to a guy who gave the champ a heck of a run for his money. I think Shima is RIGHT THERE on the cusp of a title shot of his own and I’m hearing that Hare may throw a general challenge out there to the division for somebody to give him a go next with the winner getting the next title shot!

Krol has been a strange one to figure out so far.  We all know that Action Jackson excels with guys in the heavier weight classes and is generally considered one of the best “KO” managers out there.  Yet, Krol can’t seem to find his consistency yet.  He’s been bouncing between wins and losses and is .500 since joining Sucker Punch.  But, much like Shima, his losses have come to top caliber competition and that’s important to recognize.  He’s lost to both Murphy and Shima now with wins over Tribute and Kekkonen. That’s “right there” quality stuff and his next fight will probably help determine exactly where he stands.  We expect that next fight may be against Reggie Jackson after the May 22 fights are resolved.

Undercard Bout #4: Featherweights

Jihadi Joseph Defeats Luke Skywalker via Unanimous Decision

Nati's Take:

Ah, yes. The first non-heavyweight match of the night. I would like to start by apologizing. Not for calling it a slap fight or for calling them skinny boys, but rather to Joseph for saying that this wouldn’t work out for him. Joseph, despite my former judgements, managed to win this one against Skywalker via unanimous decision after 3 long rounds of fighting. Apparently Skywalker’s experience and mass didn’t help him out here. Joseph and Skywalker both got in some pretty good hits throughout the fight, but it’s pretty clear why it was unanimous for Joseph. He just got in hit after hit on Skywalker. I’m surprised Skywalker lasted through the entire thing, if I’m being honest. Maybe if Skywalker stops acting like he is the real Jedi, he could actually win a fight or two. Joseph’s friendliness towards fans should win him support in his fights to come. However, this was yet another wrong pick for me which puts be only 25% accuracy. So that’s a little disappointing. But, hey, good for the winners.

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Ahhh yes, one of the fights that broke Nati’s little heart this past weekend!  I had to hear about this through Hare for a day or so, ha!  She really felt she had these first several fights pegged but learned a lesson quickly that size and mass don’t necessarily make the difference in the MMAT game!

Joseph puts two together and is now 2-0 since joining Sucker Punch.  Perhaps he’s really liking being in the Featherweight division now that he’s stepped up a weight class?  It seems so.  We’re waiting on the May 15th fights to determine his next opponent but in the meantime I’ll just say that whoever it is (probably Casey or Nagashima) they better come prepared because this is a kid who’s moving up the rankings fast!

Skywalker and his team under Luiz Torres will be very disappointed in this loss as he’d been flirting with possible top contender status again with the two wins he carried into this fight.  A win over Joseph would have given him the boost he needed to get another top contender battle and a chance to earn a title shot in the near future.  Now, he’ll be back to working his way up the ladder after being knocked back just a bit.  He’s likely to see Villareal or Casey next, but we’re waiting on those fights from the 15th first before making a decision.

Undercard Bout #5: Lightweights

Guy River Defeats Repus Revorg via Unanimous Decision

Nati's Take:

Fight number 5 was our first and only lightweight matchup of the night. This was yet another fight that was won by unanimous decision. The decision went to River over revorg after 3 grueling rounds of fighting. Shouldn’t really be a surprise since River had the advantage all around for skills, as well as both height and experience on Revorg. But, for whatever bizarre reason, I still chose Revorg to win this one. I’m not so good at this. Anyways, round one saw a lot of offense coming from River which forced Revorg to take a more defensive approach to the fight. This was a red flag right off the bat. Taking hit after hit probably started to wear Revorg down. While Revorg started to get some hits in toward the end of round 1 and into round 2, he had too many misses to count. Revorg really moved into a more offensive approach in round 3, but it wasn’t enough. The fight still went to River. Honestly, with the amount of hits he was taking, I’m surprised Revorg made it past round 2. A good win like this should have River very motivated going into his future fights. And now I’ve up to 1 out of 5 right. Very disappointed in the fighter I chose so far.

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Yeah, I told Nati not to go putting too much down on Hare’s boy Revorg in this one but she just wasn’t going to listen.  Typical teenager!  Anyways, River did exactly what he was supposed to do here and put down an up and coming challenger to prove that Revorg belongs in the middle of the pack and that River is a tier above!  River’s had several strong showings lately and is just about in position to make a run back to the top to challenge the champ again potentially.  I was told that Hare was considering that for next month but now he’s thinking one more stop along the way before making that happen with Bobolo Jubbly’s management back in town.  Jubbly is a strong ground specialist and probably an excellent test for River’s all around skillset before seeing a title shot again!

Revorg is a young, young fighter for this org at well over 364k in MMAT ID. He’s done well, but there are limits to what his development will allow him to accomplish at this point.  He’s clearly seen those limits tested and exceeded in this past two fights against Yip Man Iii and River.  Next month he’ll likely get a chance to see just where he stands in between as Hare says a Revorg/Aldo matchup may be a next good fit for both Revorg and Aldo!

Main Card Bout #1: Welterweights

Ispa Perkele Defeats Igor Vovchanchyn via TKO (Strikes)

Nati's Take:

Moving on to the main card. The names become more fun from here, in my opinion. Another wrong pick from me, Perkele won this one 2 minutes and 28 seconds into round 2 via TKO. I stated in my preview that Perkele has a lot of Vovchanchyn based on their stats, and that probably should have been a sign that he would win. But no, I had to choose wrong again. Despite Vovchanchyn’s more aggressive approach at the start of this fight, it wasn’t enough to win him this welterweight match. Vovchanchyn was pretty much controlling round 1, but Perkele’s experience and fighting skills came into play in round 2. Vovchanchyn took a hard hit to the side of the head which led to the ref calling the win for Pekele. Not a surprising win for Perkele, especially based on his history of winning by way of TKO, but a good win for him nonetheless. Him and his manager should be happy with this one.

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Another one here as we get into the Main Card that seems to have broken Nati’s little heart!  She grew a bit attached to Vovchanchyn, although I suspect it had to do more with the name than anything else.  Not only did Vovchanchyn fail to come through for Nati in this one but he also got let go by P J Jones, his manager, following the fight.  Jones doesn’t typically walk away from his guys easily but I know there had been some growing concern about the quality of Vovchanchyn’s…well, chyn (chin)! With (T)KO losses to Bass (twice), Christiano and now Perkele I suppose there were too many suspicions there.  We’ll see if he gets picked up by another manager and what that manager may be able to do with Vov with a fresh perspective on things!

Perkele came into Sucker Punch full of excitement and hype two fights back, with manager Mikey C excited yet nervous in what he might have in this kid!  He dropped a heartbreaker to Red Crow, managed by his own alliance mate in Yabai, but bounced back nicely in this one, clearly finding the answer to the big boy Vov.  Based upon Perkele’s skill levels and the folks we have available for fights in the near future right now in the Welterweight division it’s looking like Hare may go to the outside to find some action for him next.  Stay tuned on that one folks!

Main Card Bout #2:  Heavyweights

Ashwin Tyson Defeats Herleifr Conchobhar via KO (Head Kick)

Nati's Take:

Our first heavyweight fight on the main card was Tyson vs Conchobar. Going off stats, I wouldn’t have been surprised if they fought through all 3 rounds and ended with a decision. So I’m a bit surprised, to say the least, that Tyson ended this one early in round 2 with a good head kick leading to KO. I went with Tyson for this one, and Conchobhar kind of freaks me out, so I’m quite happy with this outcome. Tyson went on the offensive early in round 1, but he has a lot of misses and Conchobhar made quite a few blocks. None of that mattered, though, as it seemed Tyson was winning following round 1. He decided to secure this win in round 2 with a good KO, but not before getting a few more jabs in and even cutting Conchobhar. The crowd sure did love this one. I imagine a win like this will keep Tyson going for a while.

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Conchobhar came out seemingly ready to get at it with his boxing in this contest but just wasn’t on his game enough to get the better of Tyson this time out!  Tyson was making his Sucker Punch debut and did it in stellar, highlight fashion as he nabs the ‘KO of the Night’ honors with a beautiful head kick for the KO!  That’s certainly one way to bounce back from a couple of losses at Checkmate and then BBFC that had put an end to a heck of a run of TKO’s and KO’s prior to that.  Tyson was called out by Andre Powell’s management team following this fight as they think they see what they can exploit against this fighter.  It’s a top notch matchup that works well, so Hare was all for it and said “Let’s get it on!”

Conchobhar will want to keep that grin and happy face, get his morale back where it needs to be and come into the next fight ready to forget about this experience!  He’s won six of his eight fights under current management so he’s still on the right track, especially considering he’s 2-1 at Sucker Punch here!  He’ll get a crack at Victor Ballsawash next month and we’ll find out which of those two can push themselves further up the ladder!

***********************

Main Card Bout #3: Light Heavyweights

Jacob Parker Defeats Eemeli Lampi via TKO (Punches)

Nati's Take:

For the last fight of the night before the title matches began, we had Parker vs Lampi. Very pleased to see my picks doing better later in the night. Parker defeated Lampi rather quickly, only 2 minutes and 45 seconds into round 1, by way of TKO. I guess Lampi just couldn’t handle the amount of punches Parker was throwing. But, I mean, he was fighting a world-class boxer. What’d he expect from this fight? Just some measely wrestling? I think not. However, Lampi did give it his best. He even tried to get back up following Parker’s final devastating strikes, but unfortunately he couldn’t stay on his feet and the ref called TKO. It will be good to see where these two guys go in the future. Especially since, if I’m not mistaken, this win will put Parker in a title fight. I’m sure him and his manager are thrilled about that.

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Nati is absolutely correct when she says that this fight was a “get back to a title shot” fight for Parker and with the win that’s exactly what he’s done!  So long as his management wants the fight, which I believe they do, this win will give Parker a shot at the winner of the John Doe and Derwent Bolt confrontation after that’s resolved on the 22nd!  This was clearly a big time fight for Parker and he cleared the hurdle in fine form!

For Lampi this will be a disappointing setback but not the end of the world by any means!  He lost to the champ last month in a bid for the title and has now lost to a former champ in his bid to get back to the top.  For Lampi, that simply means he’s still a step outside things in terms of being in that top  contender status.  But he’s still one of the best in the division and many who may think they’re ready would have to TRY to go through him to get the opportunity.  Right now, it looks like Hare believes John Fury is the one who thinks he’s ready for that shot so Lampi and Fury will be a monstrous battle to look forward to next month!

Co-Main Event:

Heavyweight Championship Bout

Thoth Chontamenti Defeats Patrick Murphy via Submission (Rear Naked Choke)

Nati's Take:

Fight number 9. First title fight of the night. Chontamenti and Murphy battled it out for the heavyweight championship. It comes as no surprise to anybody that Chontamenti won this one. I’ll give it to Murphy, though. I said he had no chance, but he did last through almost 4 entire rounds of fighting. Unfortunately for him, he was so worn out that when Chontamenti tried to put him into submission with a rear naked choke, his struggles to break free just weren’t enough and, after turning an unnatural color, was out. Chontamenti certainly showed no restraint in celebrating this win, simply throwing Murphy out of the way to go celebrate with his friends. Come on, dude. Some respect for your opponents would be nice.

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Wow!  Just…wow!  This fight lived up to everything that a title fight and Co-Main Event should be and then some!  We learned AT LEAST two things in this fight.  The first…Murphy is an absolute work-horse on the ground and is relentless with his pursuit to find the dominant position and then lay down a torrent of strikes once there!  The second…Chontamenti is every bit the beast we thought he was as he not only weathered the storm of those strikes, with a HUGE percentage of them landing, but found a way to turn the tide and come out with the belt still firmly in hand despite being put under the gun in the worst way in this fight!

I really thought that Chontamenti might try to keep this fight on the feet and take advantage of his striking against Murphy.  That very well may have been the plan but Murphy very clearly had goals of his own to get this fight to the ground, the one place he might be able to find an advantage.  Murphy did a great job with that, getting the fight to the ground at the beginning of each round and landing an overall total of fifty-six shots in his ground and pound efforts out of sixty-three offered!  Chontamenti for his part went for a total thirty-three submission attempts and as we know, only one of those has to land.  Despite trailing on the scorecards for the fight it was that thirty-third try that paid off once he’d gained Murphy’s back!

Enough can’t be said about how well Murphy handled himself in this one!  He had Chontamenti gassed out and still had plenty left in his own tank.  Heck, he may have been only a few more good quality strikes of his own away from being able to finish this fight and I think it’s clear that this thing was never going to make it through an entire fifth round had it made it to the final championship round!  Expect to see this man back and contending again in the future!

But for now…our own Juice Fluffer let those words that Chontamenti fans around the world were looking to hear…”ANNNND STILLLL…”

Main Event:

Middleweight Championship Bout

McGuire vs. Machado II

Wanderson Machado Defeats Landon McGuire via KO (Punch)

Nati's Take:

Finally, fight number 10. For the final fight of the night, we saw Landon McGuire and Wanderson Machado battle it out for the middleweight championship. McGuire was 6-0 going into this fight and had been defending this title for a while. Machado, however, was the former middleweight champion and came into this one with a vengeance, looking for redemption no doubt. And redeem himself he did. Machado and Mcguire fought a solid 2 rounds. But, come the third round, McGuire couldn’t hold it together anymore and Machado won 28 seconds in by way of KO. Machado landed a great overhead right and knocked McGuire out cold. Not to brag or anything, but I did pick Machado for this one. Very pleased to see him win his championship back. Machado was so hyped up post fight he couldn’t even keep it together for his interview. But nonetheless, you did a good job bud. Congrats and good luck in the future.

Donkey’s Takeaways:

Everybody in attendance knew that Machado was never going to be one to be overlooked in his bid to regain the Sucker Punch Pro Series Middleweight Championship!  Hell no.  This man had that belt for quite a while and was ruling over this division.  He’d already avenged his only other loss in his career to Hirst and this was the remaining battle he needed to fully avenge his remaining defeat.  And in the process regain his crown.  He came to play, that’s for sure and as one person put it in the forums, “Wow, Machado fucked Landon up. Glad his new managers have done him justice.”  I’m not sure I’d put it quite so crassly, but certainly Machado did do a number on the reigning champ on this night.  Which is very, very surprising because McGuire has shown himself to be an amazing competitor in all of his fights!

Fans around the world may be wondering what’s next for the newly re-crowned king of the Middleweight division?  Well, Tanaka Matsuda is now standing by looking to see if HE can be the next one to lift that belt!  He and his manager, Zeke Gunner, will hit the gym for their training camp this month and look to come in to try to shock the world themselves next month on June 5th as they challenge Machado for that coveted belt!

For Landon McGuire, well, we’re waiting to see what might come of the May 15th fight between Joseph DeAngelo and Longsun Zhao.  DeAngelo is on a roll and may very well earn himself a top contender battle with McGuire if he wants it and if he should defeat Zhao.  That will also then be McGuire’s chance to get back to the title fight and try to regain the title again for himself!  But before any of that can happen, DeAngelo needs to focus on his fight with Zhao!  Zhao also could be in consideration and play for the TC status if he should win and want it.  Top competitors such as Kazuma, Chris Harms and Brunswick are also right on the horizon! This is a division to watch folks!

***********************

So there we have it Sucker Punch fans!

Awesome action on tap over at the Bondi as we watched an epic SPPS 58 go down folks!  I hope you all had a great time and are ready for another fantastic set of battles this weekend as we head towards SPPS 59!
