A lot to play for in these final fights.

Group G has already been decided in that Kento King and Hare Rumpler will go through, but the winner of their fight will face Maurice Simmons in the knockout stages, while the loser will face Jimmy Normal.

Group H has a realistic scenario for every fighter to go through. Right now, Aydan is on 2 wins, G Wad and Ben Hornby are on 1 win, and Mickey Rafferty is on 0 wins. If Aydan was to defeat Ben, but Mickey beat G Wad, suddenly we're at a 3 way split for who goes to the next round between all but Aydan. However, if Aydan was to lose to Ben and G Wad beats Mickey, all 3 at the top would end on 2 wins. Very exciting. The winner of Group H will face Master Leader in the knockout stages, and the runner up will face Jet.

Sure. So I get double my stake if I win?

So if I stake 1 mil I get 2 mil back?

What's the max? I'll put up to a million.

Highland $6 Million Tournament

Elimination Round 1 Dec 24th

Christmas Eve, a night of peace and goodwill toward men for some. For others it will be a night of blood, sweat and tears. A night where some will celebrate sweet victory, and others will taste the bitterness of defeat. Where some new stars will arise in triumph, while others fall broken and battered in defeat. A night where brave men have one chance at continuing their quest for glory. This will be the night they tell their story in deeds and in their actions. The round of sixteen begins.

Campbell (Jet) vs Finn (G Wad)

The first round of sudden death elimination matches begins Christmas Eve as Campbell 3-0 brings his unblemished record to the cage against Finn 2-1. All three of Campbell's win have come by knockout, with his MuayThai skills becoming his calling card in this tournament. Defensively he has a very strong wrestling background which very well could come into play against Finn should the fight go to the ground. Finn has an equally impressive set of wrestling skills complemented by a Purple Belt in BJJ, all but assuring he will be shooting for takedown, or looking to pull guard. His two wins have come by knockout and by decision, with his only loss being by submission which he is not in any danger of this night. He may have a tough time getting a solid hold on the more compact frame of Campbell as well, holding just over a half foot of height advantage. We all know what to expect here in this MuayThai versus BJJ matchup so far as the game plan of the combatants go, but who will execute theirs without error and carry on past this round?

Mahoo (Hare Rumpler) vs Lamez (Maurice Simmons)

With identical 2-1 records Mahoo and Lamez square off in the second match of the tournament this evening. Expect an all out tactical ground battle as these two BJJ practitioners clash with their tournament lives on the line. Mahoo holds a Purple Belt and is the superior wrestler of the two, while Lamez holds the BJJ advantage with his Brown Belt. Lamez, twenty cm taller, will have to be careful with his long limbs making excellent targets for Mahoo to attempt to grab onto for a submission hold. Which will prevail, the superior BJJ fighter or the better wrestler? Find out Friday night.

Kashi (Scott Bandz) vs Colon (Johnny Lee)

The knockout machine that is Kashi 3-0 takes on Colon 2-1 who hold two knockout victories of his own, though he suffered his only loss by knockout as well. Kashi is an aggressive MuayThai fighter with wonderful wrestling skills packaged into a diminutive one hundred fifty centimeter frame, while Colon is boxer and BJJ hybrid holding a significant reach advantage with his extra twenty centimeters of height (about eight inches for those measuring in Imperial units). Kashi will be looking to negate that advantage in the clinch but still may have a bit of a challenge landing headshots, a challenge he will gladly answer. Colon will be looking to keep the fight at range where he can put his boxing and reach to good use and maybe catch Kashi coming in for a clinch. Both men are likely to get their chins tested and their willpower measured in this exciting matchup!

Naarden (Optimal) vs Valentino (Lek Buddah)

If Kashi is a knockout machine then Naarden is the BJJ equivalent having bent his three first round opponents to submission. He faces Valentino, a highly skilled boxer with some decent wrestling training, who made it through on tiebreak rules with a 1-2 record with his win coming via knockout. Naarden will be looking to shoot for takedown while avoiding the dangerous counters from Valentino who will be tasked with keeping the fight at range and on his feet. Should Naarden get through and take down Valentino it could spell disaster for the boxer, but if he can weather the storm of attempts and wear down Naarden he might have the opportunity to land a knockout blow and score a stunning upset.

Sims (Jimmy Normal) vs Luciano (Kento King)

Prepare for a stand up striking battle as Sims 3-0 battles Luciano 2-1 in this elimination bout. Sims has superb boxing skills as evidenced by the three knockouts he racked up in the group stage of the tournament, as well as a BJJ Brown belt. Luciano has the tools of any high end MuayThai practitioner  complemented by a solid wrestling base which translated into two wins on the judges scorecards. It seems unlikely that Luciano will want to trust putting a third match into the judges hands and will be looking to make a decisive strike on Sims to put this fight away. This could be a tall order, tall being the key word describing Sims who holds a seven centimeter height advantage which he will be looking to leverage with his boxing for a fourth straight knockout. Striker's delight in this match, one that will be sure to thrill the fans!

Murphy (Aydan the Wandering Spirit) vs Reznikov (Master Leader)

Very little separates Murphy 3-0 from Reznikov 2-1 physically, with both men standing the same height and carrying the same weight. One might almost believe that they were trained the same as they have similar wrestling skillsets and abilities as each other, and both are excellent BJJ fighters, Murphy with a Purple Belt and Reznikov with a Blue Belt. Predictably they each prefer a ground battle where they can put their MMA skills on full display, though in the tournament thus far Murphy has had a degree more success scoring three submission victories while Reznikov has one and one decision. On paper this looks like the sort of match which should favour Murphy with him holding a higher BJJ rank in a ground battle, but Reznikov will desperately be looking to pull off the upset here.

Elimination Round 1 Dec 26th

Malig (Jason Swanson) vs Thibodeaux (Dakota Thibodeaux)

Malig 3-0 and Thibodeaux 2-1 square off in a battle that neither may have wanted, but destiny thought otherwise. Malig is a pure BJJ fighter, holding a Brown Belt and having respectable wrestling skills to round out his talents. This has resulted in three opponents consecutively being submitted from striker to grappler. Thibodeaux is a wonderful wrestler with some strong MuayThai skills which carried him to two knockout wins before he was stopped short in his third match by an expert grappler in Naarden. Thibodeaux will be looking to hold the fight up in the clinch, or maybe to keep his distance to not risk Malig pulling guard, and test the jaw of his opponent. Malig will be looking to take the fight down by any means necessary in an attempt to secure some sort of submission hold. There has been very little talk leading up to this fight as these men both hold each other in high regard, but there will not be much room for that once the cage door closes.

Short (Roman Benson) vs Durden (Hector Bautista)

The outspoken officer Short 2-1 heads into the cage with Durden 2-1 on Boxing Day. Seems a bit ironic as both men are BJJ Brown Belts and may not be looking to box at all. Durden is proficient in boxing should he choose to go that route, which may be the plan with Short's only loss coming via knockout and possessing a decent reach advantage. Short meanwhile will continue to rely on his ground game with wrestling proficiency completing his skillset and without a doubt will be looking to score the win with his third submission of the tournament. Will Durden look to box or grapple with Short, or will Short take him down and remove any choice in the matter? Find out Sunday!
