Hello and welcome to another episode of MMA FanZone. I’m your host Jack Russell and this week we will be discussing the upcoming ITFL round 3. Joining me this week is Johnson Schmid and Renato Silvia.

This week, 6th place take on 1st place as The Dong Squad look to salvage something against Team Conquer. 2nd vs 5th as Vendetta looks to keep up with Team Conquer by taking on Sully’s Regulars. Team Icon also look to remain top 3 but they have a tough task in The Charles Grace All Stars.

Up first is Dong Squad vs Conquer the first fight between these two is Bruno Aires vs. Bruce Brady. Aires is 1-1 so far in the tournament, dominating Lobo on the feet but struggled to get his grappling going against the nimble Carr. Brady is also 1-1 and beat the same opponent as Aires. Renato, you’ve been looking forward to this fight, fill us in.

Renato Silvia: I think this has the potential to be a high level grappling fight, Aires struggled last round against a striker who kept it on the feet, but Brady will be willing to go to the ground in this one. On the feet they are evenly matched, but I think Brady has the more power and might be able to finish on the feet. I do hope we see a chess match on the ground though, these are two very good grapplers.

Johnson Schmid: These are arguably two of the lesser fighters in the tournament, this is more for the team. Brady needs the win more to keep Conquer firmly on top and Aires is fighting for his place in the individuals rather than for his team, which quite frankly look like they won’t get off of bottom place for the remainder.

JR: Next up is Rio Yaj vs Edward Blake. Blake is a solid striker, with two UD wins so far struggling with the grappling of his opponents but getting the job done. Yaj has struggled, he showed poor fight IQ in his first fight as he went to the floor with a dangerous submission artist and in his second fight he was badly outmatched and was quickly KOed.

JS: I can’t see how Yaj wins this one, Blake is one tough fighter and he is well rounded and capable of winning the individuals. Yaj is just out-ginned here even if he gets it to the floor he won’t be able to deal with Blake’s grappling.

RS: I have to agree, Yaj isn’t on the same level and it will show. I wouldn’t be surprised if Blake got the finish early in this fight.

JR: The next fight is Neil Gilas vs Brock Rumlow. It seems as if Gilas is being thrown to a lion in this fight, he has always been looked at as one of the weaker fighters in the tournament whilst Rumlow has been tipped to win the whole thing.

JS: Man oh man, this is gonna be an asswhooping. Gilas is tough, he doesn’t quit but that will only prolong his pain in this fight. Rumlow hits hard, but he moves fast and strikes rather than loading up on his strikes. Rumlow hasn’t really had much trouble yet but he may be in some if he allows Gilas room to take him down and pound on him. Even then he shouldn’t be in too much trouble.

RS: Gilas isn’t the best striker, he has also shown he can be outgrappled. So yea, I don’t see him winning this one, it will take a miracle and be a huge, huge upset.

JR: Demetri Pulevski vs. Kai Kha is the 4th fight. Pulevski has struggles so far, whilst his striking is good he keeps his chin up in the air a lot of the time and he doesn’t react to getting hit very well. Kha meanwhile is a solid looking prospect, one of the younger ones but his power is very dangerous.

JS: This one looks like another victory for Conquer, Kha hits too hard and Pulevski just crumbles when he gets hit. Pulevski does have power, but will it be enough to end Kha? I don’t think so. Maybe, but unlikely.

RS: I have to agree, again. As much as it pains me to do so. Pulevski is undersized, and his chin was never very good at WW, at LHW the fighters have more power to hurt him with and it’s showing. He won’t last very long in there with Killer Kha.

JR: The last fight between these two teams is Russell Bell vs George Pedro. Bell rebounded from a 1st round loss by picking up a victory in his 2nd fight, whilst Pedro has been a straight up killer and looking like one of the scarier fighters at the moment .

RS: Pedro will win this thing, his power is off the charts and his ground game is legitimately scary. Bell is a good fighter, but his lack of experience will be his downfall in this fight, that and the fact Pedro is his opponent.

JS: This does look like a whitewash for Conquer, but out of the 5 fights, this is one that can save the Dong’s. Bell is tough and canny even for his lack of experience. Pedro is a very solid fighter though but I feel this will be the most competitive fight of the bunch.

JR: That wraps up part 1 of our preview. Join us on part two where we will discuss Vendetta vs. Sully’s Regulars.

Welcome to part 2, it’s Vendetta vs. Sully’s Regulars. The first fight between these two is Cornelius Carr vs. Johan Attila. Carr is 2-0, winning his first fight via decision and his 2nd with a very impressive superman punch. Attila lost his first fight quickly, the doctor called off the fight as his face was red mess. He rebounded well in his 2nd fight with a 1st round submission, showing his very heavy top game in the process.

JS: This fight has great potential, Carr has shown to be very adept at fending off grapplers and out striking them. His power is good but not great so he will have to be careful with Attila that he won’t over commit to a strike and get taken down. Meanwhile, Attila is a hardy grappling specialist. His stand up is serviceable but his skin is very thin and he bleeds a lot, making it easier for his opponents to slip away from him. If Carr can keep this fight on the feet I would give him the advantage.

RS: I like Attila in this fight, Carr has good escapes but Attila knows to be patient on the floor and he knows how to keep it there. Carr can probably outstrike him but Attila is hard to finish with strikes, the doctors are his worst enemy, but at some point Attila will take this to the floor and either ride Carr out for 3 rounds or get a finish.

JR: Fight #2 is Igor Quincy vs. O Shea Jackson. Arguably the two weakest on each team, a rematch from a few months ago where Quincy won via KO. Both are 0-2 so far in the tournament, Jackson losing both his fights by being knocked out. Quincy has shown his toughness in his two losses, by he still lost twice and that must hurt.

JS: This is one that can go either way, but when they fought before Quincy’s power was enough to put him away. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Quincy get himself a win here and Jackson get more brain damage.

RS: Jackson is a very emotional fighter and he comes out aggressive, he doesn’t really change his tactic. He knows if he gets hit he will go down so he tries to hit first and hit harder. He can take the fight to Quincy, he may not last long but it’s his only chance not to get caught by the power.

JR: The next fight on the list is Friedrich Von Kuschelbar vs Danny Ciprianni in a match between two 2-0 grapplers. Friedrich is more of a wrestling specialist with decent and serviceable stand up whilst Ciprianni has turned himself into a good striker but at heart he remains the same strong grappler he always was and it has shown in his recent fights.

JS: Freidrich is a strong wrestler and almost impossible to get off once he is on top of you, I’m a big admirer of his wreslting technique and he is proving to be one of the strongest in the tournament so far. But Ciprianni is no joke, he can do it all on the floor and I am very interested to see how this fight pans out. But I think Friedrich has the advantage on the floor.

RS: In a wrestler vs BJJ guy, you know who I’m taking. BJJ wins 9 times out of 10 and Ciprianni does it better than the Baron and when this hits the floor it will be all him.

JR: The 4th fight between these two teams is Jermaine “Razor” Wright vs. John Swanson. Wright is 2-0 so far with 1 KO whilst Swanson is unlucky to be 0-2, losing via cut in the last round after winning the first two rounds of his last fight.

JS: So far Wright has only fought strikers, he is a good striker and beats most of them. Swanson will be a different challenge as he is a ground fighter first, his wrestling is good as he was able to dominate Perry on the floor for 2 rounds so he should be able to give Wright trouble if he can get it to the floor early and often, he doesn’t want to be standing with Wright in this one. I’m calling for Swanson with the upset victory.

RS: Nah man, Wright and Swanson are in two different leagues, Wright is a striker but I dare say he can grapple as well if called for. Swanson will be in for a long night, Razor has shown very hard to take down and when he is he is good off his back.

JR: The final matchup between these two teams is Ras Li Judah vs. Liam McGuiness. Judah comes in looking to keep his streak alive, he is 2-0 with two KOs. Liam is 0-2 being finished twice, once via KO and once via submission. Both are strikers mainly, so here’s hoping for a fun scrap.

RS: Judah is young, but he is really stepping up to the challenge so far. His power is looking very deadly and I’d be surprised to see Liam last past the first round in this one. His chin hasn’t looked very good in a while and Judah will bring the power.

JS: In these types of fights, I’m a firm believer in experience overcoming raw talent. Judah will be good, but Liam will bring his power and his ways of striking that I don’t think Judah will be prepared for. Liam hits hard and we will see how well Judah stands up against a truly powerful striker.

JR: That wraps up the Vendetta vs. Sully’s Regulars matchups. Join us on part 3 where the topic of discussion will be Team Icon vs. The Charles Grace All Stars.

JR: Welcome to part 3, Team Icon vs. The Charles Grace All Stars. Icon are doing surprisingly well, exceeding expectations whilst The All Stars have been underwhelming. The first fight between these two is Steel Penn vs. Matt Kroblur. Both are 1-1, with their only win coming via submission.

RS: I expect a grappling match, Kroblur is confident in his wrestling ability to overcome Penn’s other worldly ju jitsu. Kroblur should probably keep this on the feet where he has a distinct advantage but he will probably look to shoot at one point and get a ground and pound finish and that will spell the end for him, Penn will tap him if this hits the floor.

JS: That’s laughable, Kroblur will manhandle Penn in every which way this fight goes, that’s the be all and end all.

JR: Next up is Bryer Michael vs. Akhiko Yamato. Michael is 0-2 having been outwrestled in both fights and not really having any answers once on his back. Yamato is a striker who won’t look to take this to the floor against Michael, he is 1-1 with his loss coming via KO.

JS: The brief glimpses we saw of Michael on the feet he didn’t look that good. Yamato is certainly the better striker going from past fights but his chin is an issue, if Michael can land on him with a clean punch this will be over.

RS: I agree, Michael needs the KO punch to land or he will be outstruck from pillar to post.

JR: The next order of business is Thomas Rutherford vs. Antonio Lobo. Rutherford is 1-1 with a KO loss and a KO win, striking being his forte. Lobo is no stranger to Rutherfords, having faces Stephen a while back and losing vis KO. He is 0-2 in the tournament, his one game plan hasn’t been enough to get over the level of competition.

RS: Lobo’s ground is good, his wrestling is not. He likes pulling guard but that has not been working so far. Rutherford will be able to use his length to outstrike in this one if he doenst get caught and wrapped up by Lobo’s powerful frame.

JS: I can’t see Lobo winning, Rutherford will be prepared for him and his tactics.

JR: The 4th fight is BJ McGobblecock vs. Edward Stoker. BJ is 1-1 so far, with a KO win and loss, his striking looks good but he faces a big step up in competition here. Stoker was looked on as a favourite to win the tournament at the start, but 2 losses later he hasn’t looked very good, but this is his chance to turn things around.

JS: BJ is good, but I really think those two losses will light a fire under Stoker who will come out hard and aggressive in this fight looking to prove his doubters wrong and stop letting his team down.

RS: Stoker needs the win for his own sake, sorry for BJ that he is the one standing in the way of him this fight. BJ will need to seriously up his game if he hopes to win this fight.

JR: The final fight between these two teams is Kabal Labak vs. Duane Perry. Labak is 1-1, looking very good in defeat as he was able to snatch a round from Rumlow. Perry is 2-0, two KO wins.

JS: After Perry’s unimpressive last fight, I think Labak might take him as much as I hate to admit it. Perry struggled greatly with the wrestling of Swanson, I think Labak is a higher calibre wrestler than Swanson and might put Perry is some dangerous positions and grind out the decision victory.

RS: This can go either way, but Perry did struggle with a wrestling based attack last fight only getting the last round TKO win due to a doctor stoppage. Perry has the advantage on the feet but will need to up his ground tactics if he wants to deal with Labak’s non stop grapplefest.

JR: Well folks, that wraps up episode 3 of our ITFL preview we hope you enjoyed. Remember if you know or want to be a guest on our next episode, get in touch! Until next time, I’ve been Jack Russell, good night.

Thanks man, great write ups again.

Cornelius Carr wanted to pass on a message to Johan Attila:

Cornelius Carr

Bring lots of bandages or at least a paper bag as no-one is going to want to look at that face of yours after tomorrow night unless they are big fans of Picasso or horror movies.

Johan "Bloody Hailstorm" Attila

"It`s no use, the paper bag will be so bloody, it is just gonna rip by the slightest movement. So i should bring something better, bandages are ok, but i think i can came up with something better. You know what i think i am gonna surprise you what it will be, if it even goes that far. Maybe you can do something for me as well. Call already an ambulance just in case, because if the Ref is stepping in tomorrow to stop the fight because of the blood i am gonna whooooooop his ass. So he will need attending to afterwords"

Dam, you take your scouting seriously! :D

Well of course i do, but in the end it never helps, in fact the more i scout, the quicker the fight i lose lol

I don`t know but when i spotted it, i had to make a comment :P

lets hope for me bring you under the 2:1 ratio :shades:, looks just nice like this, thats why it caught my eye in the first place i guess. hahaha

Well that was a pretty predictable outcome. I was worried I was going to blow my fight and ruin it.

We got bummed again if any of my team wanna chat about match ups feel free to PM me

Don't be afraid to make sacrifices for the greater good. And try to be more attentive of injuries on your own team and your opponents team. Your guys had 2 injuries this week (Bell and Aires). But your first pick was putting 1 of your injured fighters who was an auto loss against probably our weakest fighter (no offense Rory). You would've been better off putting your best un-injured fighter against Brady. Or sacrificing 1 of your injured fighters against 1 of our really strong fighters. There was a really good chance LT's guy Rumlow was going to get a W no matter which of your team he faced, so taking him off the board against a guy who was an auto loss anyway would've been good strategy

Yeah I didn't realise till you said it was my bad on the team for that one. My first season on ITFL so still learning but thanks for the pointers. I'll be happy if we can just pull of one week win

I got beat by the king of the scrubs, bloody hell! It's the ultimate shame. I don't think my tycoon career will ever recover from this.

I need an excuse for this humiliating loss. Is it possible to win a fight with an injured fighter? Please tell me no :)

It's not possible to win w/ an injury. It is possible to win with a cut. But a 16 day injury in this tournament is a death sentence, 15 days for some reason erases before the fight takes place

I've always liked you bro, don't feel ashamed that you lost to the king of the scrubs as ma man Sean said you were injured, I'll give you that. I was on the verge of quitting tycoon again bit for some reason had a big change of mind and decided to get back into it so consider this a warning for all future opponents! ;)
