INY 58 Turner vs Ronan

New York City

Feb 1 , 2013

Ladies and Gentlemen, there may not be a World Title fight on this card, but some of the guys fighting almost certainly will become World Champion at some stage.

Turner vs Ronan

185lb Division

Two of the hardest hitters in the organization headline this card, with former 205lb Champ Randy Turner making his comeback since losing the title to Matt Youngblood. Turner 9-1 7KOs is a talented Muay Thai fighter with KO power in abundance, and shocked the world 2 years ago when he outpointed Al Fayyad to capture the World Title. Turner’s only venture into genuine world class ended in a 1st round KO loss against Youngblood, but not before he became the first man to drop the former champ.

Turner faces a real test here against Elvis Ronan, a Wild Den Hall of Famer, and sensational boxer with 11 wins 10 by KO, and only 5 losses. He has all the advantages here, great camp, awesome training, experience, KO power and granite chin. Ronan is 0-1 in the INY after dropping a decision to the equally gifted Milton Knight, but he looks capable of schooling Turner in this one, and I’m backing him to stop Turner inside 2 rounds. Turner has KO power, but Ronan is older, more skilled, durable and heavy handed. Turner may have risen too fast for his own good, but credit to his camp for facing the sternest of tests.

Ronan by KO for sure.

Knight vs Meyers

185lb Division

Milton Knight 8-4 5KOs is coming into this on the back of out pointing Elvis Ronan and before him Archie Fallon. Knight is at his peak, a world class boxer, he can also mix his attack up with kicks, and as demonstrated in his fight with Fallon, he is also pretty useful in the clinch.

Milton Knight has his sights firmly set on a showdown with the champion Ventura, and Ventura best start preparing for this guy, because I think he will run right through Meyers here. Meyers has world class BJJ, and must get this fight to the ground. He 7-4 7 subs, so we know what to expect, but he has a mixed record of late 1-3, as both Rook and Melton Snr demonstrated, keep the fight standing and the fight is there for the taking.

I’ve got Knight winning this, and Ventura best sit up and take notice.

Van Kirkland vs Rimes

265 lb Division

Former Dawg Pound Champ Van Kirkland 8-5, has had mixed fortunes in the INY (2-3) but he is on a 2 fight win streak, though not against top opposition. A world class wrestler with brutal ground and pound he is certainly stepping up in class here, when he faces the highly regarded Optimus Rimes. Rimes 4-0 4 Kos is a world class striker, and he stopped the once highly regarded Yuri Lebedev last time out, so Van Kirkland looks up against it here. Rimes is still largely untested, so his chin may not be world class, or he may fold under pressure, but its unlikely Van Kirkland will be the man to find out. Van Kirkland can win plenty more fights in his career but this one looks a big ask.

Roofer vs Beretta

185lb Division

Classic case of striker versus grappler in the middleweight division, as Roofer 7-1 will look to use his Muay Thai to take away Beretta’s legs and break his opponent down in the clinch. This fight will certainly test Roofer’s takedown defense and possibly his grappling skills as Beretta will shoot for takedowns and look for an arm to nail down a submission. Beretta 6-3 is open for being KO’d on the way in, as his losses are by KO to fighters countering his takedowns.

Roofer starts the favorite, but this is certainly a stern test for the young striker, and if there are any holes in his game, he will lose.

Johnson vs Young

135lb Division

Johnson 2-0 is 25, with 2 wins in the QFC. He brings a wonderful wrestling base to this fight, solid takedowns, a great chin and solid ground and pound. Fellow grappler Young 8-1 is also making his INY debut after 9 fights in the Steel Penn St Pete’s org. Young has KO power complimented by an experienced camp and great training in the Immortals Fight Camp. While there are questions marks about Young’s chin, he does have a KO loss albeit to a top class striker, this fight likely to be a ground war, and the Young camp have an abundance of experience.

Young should come through this one, and set up a clash with 135lb World Champ Escobar.

Gallegos vs Zavier

155lb Division

BJJ Brown Belt Gallegos 5-6-1 broke his losing streak last time out when he defeated Mike Ross by submission, but this week he world went into turmoil when his manager was convicted of tax evasion, meaning his has no camp, no gym and a fight only days away. Perfect for Zavier 5-1, who’s precision striking had taken him to 5-0 including a win over Muang and Hall of Famer Wellman Jnr, before he suffered the fastest KO defeat in INY history when he was flattened by Corey Smith. Zavier coped well with Wellman Jnr’s ground game, so Gallegos should be a formality, and the casino favor an easy night for the Assasi camp.

Astronomer vs Whales

185lb Division

Astronomer 2-0 is a developing striker from the experienced JLP camp who is taking a huge step up in class and experience here when he faced Patrick Whales 7-1. Astronomer has to keep this standing and slow Whales down with kicks, as Whales will look to stick Astronomer on his back as quickly as possible. Whales is an elite wrestler, and should have too much for Astronomer on paper.

Landers vs Ross

155lb Division

Landers 8-4 has some great ground skills, but a loss to Shane Wellman Jnr last time in the cage, while understandable, has dented the confidence of the Clowns Killers camp and Landers is off to the minor leagues after the Ross fight. Ross 3-1 is younger than Landers and is coming off a submission loss to a fellow brown belt, so both fighters need a confidence boosting win. A ground war can be expected and I suspect the fighter with the best defensive grappling will prevail. Landers starts a slight favorite.

Turd vs Biamonte

185lb Division

A potential KO of the night or even fight of the night here, with two strikers, who both love the clinch clash in what will be a brutal war. Turd 3-2 2KOs loves as tear up as does Biamonte 7-6-1 5KOS, and both have a KO loss on their record. This is one to watch, and the Casino has then even.

Somankandarkram vs Abdullah

265+lbs Division

The classic MMA match up here with Indian clashing with Arab in what should be a strike fest. Soman 4-2 is a boxer who prefers to work at range, and Abdullah works best in the Muay Thai clinch using his elbows. The winner will be the fighter that dictates where this fight takes place, and I give Soman a slight edge in this one.

Shivakamini: Zayed, you don't take me seriously. Last night I had a dream. It was our fight. It was a premonition. You came out to the ring on horseback. The horse was your mother. I knew I'd seen her before, she's from those caveperson Geico commercials. In the octagon, after demounting your mother, you complained about the other guy. Ohhh I don't want to fight Shiva. Then I came out, destroyed you for the first round, but let you live into the second so you would have a little hope. At the beginning of the second, I crushed that hope, and crushed you. The ref had to rip me off of your carcass as I won with a TKO victory. In two days, my dream will come true.

(Side note: I actually did have a dream that I was reading pbp and Shiva won in the beginning of the second. I think I'm on this game too much...)

Ive started arm barring my missus when we watch TV in bed, she calls MMAtycoon, the addiction.

I am happily single, but I think that if I was married (and miserable, but cause I don't believe in happily married people. It is just unnatural for people to get married) that I would probably be in hot water also... I am on this game more than I am at work I think... Now I just need a job where I can be on the game at work and I will be golden...

Thor Okam walks up to a podium surrounded by reporters. "I won't be taking any questions today, only making an announcement. I just got off the

phone with my agent. An agreement has been reached for me to bring my talents to.....*searches through the papers in front of him*...Immortals New York. I know this is shocking to some of you. I was shocked myself that INY was able to raise enough money to cover my mandatory signing bonus of $30,000, much less my $15,000/$15,000 standard contract. They also offered me an immediate title shot, but I turned it down. I didn't think that was fair to the other "fighters" in my new division. The offer to use the org's private jet for free was very much appreciated though. For a fledgling org like..*looks down at notes again*..INY to being willing to offer me so much they must be desperate to bring some real talent in. Thank you, that is all for today." As Thor walks away questions erupt from the reporters but he ignores them as he gets in his limo with the INY logo on the side and pulls away.

Thor Okam: "Apparently there are wild accusations coming from a nearly 500 "fighter" with an atrocious thug-like name. Fortunately he has two followers to his twitter account and he's one of them, so these baseless allegations will go nowhere. It's unfortunate that my time in this org begins with someone being so unprofessional. What did I expect with a fighter that is probably on the verge of getting cut. Maybe he should spend more time in the gym and less on his phone. Might pay off in the win column."

This was some quality smack right here.

Shivakamini Somakandarkram: Zayed, I've done enough talking. As they say here in America, actions speak louder than words. So, let's go to the tape:

"Abdullah throws an elbow but it misses.

Abdullah doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Somankandarkram working some nice short punches in the clinch.

http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/fight/rocked.gif

Abdullah is rocked!

Somankandarkram misses with a short punch on the inside.

Abdullah is still on wobbly legs! Can Somankandarkram finish him?

http://www.mmatycoon.com/images/fight/breakclinch.gif

Somankandarkram breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Abdullah swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Somankandarkram counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Abdullah is breathing heavily.

Somankandarkram rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Abdullah moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Somankandarkram throws a shot from downtown. Abdullah moves away and avoids it.

Look low, kick high! Somankandarkram uses the oldest trick in the book to send Abdullah tumbling to the canvas, in a truly brutal knockout! Somankandarkram is absolutely delighted - when Abdullah wakes up, I doubt he'll be quite so happy!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Shivakamini Somankandarkram!

Post fight, Shivakamini Somankandarkram took to the microphone: 'Zayed! I told you I would destroy you! No go back and complain about not getting the fight you wanted. Your tears fuel me.'."

Please direct deposit my knockout of the night award, Steel. I await my next opponent, but I'll let it be known who I want. I fight Zayed, I destroy Zayed. Who better to fight next than Zayed's old rival, to show I am better than both of them? I challenge you, Warren Hotop.

hoptop? really? that's kind of like beating forrest griffin and then calling out tito ortiz.

if you really want to call someone out, call out the guy that head kicked zayed and destroyed him in the 2nd or 3rd fight.

i'll be back to talk some smack as zayed later, i have a whole thing planned out.

The guy you're talking about is retired. The only fight that would make sense with someone above me in hype is hotop. He's seven above. The other guy that doesn't have a fight is undefeated, so he shouldn't fight a guy below him. Believe me, I look at fighter rankings before making call outs! You were above me in rank.

INY 59 Pintor vs Diaz

Feb 2, New York City

Pintor vs Diaz

155lb Division

Lupe Pintor 8-4 is on a roll. We knew he was tough, 4 losses by decision told us that including standing up to the bombs of Corey Smith and Sam Washington. Wins over Swag Fo Dayz, and Briar McGuire have taken the BJJ Brown Belt to a new level, and he is now firmly established as one of the elite fighters in the 155lb division. Pintor has a great ground game, but he is also an underrated boxer and I believe his camp will focus on boxing Diaz for 3 rounds, forcing Diaz to ‘make something happen’.

Diaz is 31, and the veteran of 20 octagon wars, and he has an impressive 17-3 record, with an incredible number of submission wins by either kimura or armbar. Diaz is the Vegas Fight World 135lb champ, so he is much the smaller man coming into this fight, and surely cannot stand and trade with is bigger opponent. Diaz is going look for the takedown early, he wont be fazed by Pintor’s ground skills, and he will look to be the first man to finish Pintor early. Can he? That’s the question, Pintor is better rounded, and equally will feel he can dominate Diaz in every aspect of the fight.

An intriguing battle awaits MMA fans..

Banner vs Wunderkind

205lb Division

Banner 9-4-1 is a pure submission machine, and comes from the defunct 4 Kings org where he had mixed fortunes. The 24 year old fights out of the experienced McSweeny camp and will have to get his fight to the ground as soon as possible. Wunderkind 8-3 is a thoroughbred striker, and he is coming off 2nd KO win over a similar styled fighter in Yakubi, who he countered and demolished with knees in the clinch. While Wunderkind may have a suspect chin, I doubt Banner has the tools to put Wunderkind away in a striking match, so I’m backing Wunderkind to get another 2nd round KO win.

Odin vs Kurtz II

265lbs Division

Odin is seeking revenge for a devastating 1st round KO to Kurtz in December last year. On that occasion Odin secured an early takedown, but couldn’t keep Kurtz on the ground, and that was the only opportunity Kurtz needed as he landed the bomb and the fight was over. This time Odin cannot make the same mistake, he must secure the early takedown and go for broke, giving the referee no opportunity to even consider standing this fight up. Why? Because Kurtz is an incredible striker, and real talent, and only one of the best in the division, Devin Styles has had the answer so far. Kurtz is still only young, he faced Styles too soon some might say, but he will be confident that he can finish Odin quickly or force the fight to be stood up, and then hang another KO loss on Odin’s record.

Olavski vs Heisman

265lbs+Division

Olavski 8-3 has shown good form of late, having lost only once in his last 6 outings, and that was to former champ Irving Brown. Aside of Brown, Olavski is a strikers worst nightmare, as he has good takedowns and an effective BJJ offensive game. He is well trained in the Evil Empire private gym, and fights out of the ever improving Holliday camp.

“The Slayer” TJ Heisman is the bastard child of his camps manager TJ Heisman, the product of a scandalous acquaintance Heisman had with a Nigerian hooker on one of his many ‘talent spotting’ trips he took with Myron Monroe in the early 90’s. Heisman Jnr is 3-0, has world class boxing, a great chin, fast hands, and as he demonstrated in his last outing against Goldenberg, his kicks are fast developing.

Heisman survived the takedowns and submission attempts of Robert Hunt, but Olavski is a step up in class, he is older, and more experienced.

This is one could go either way, the Heisman camp are slowly emerging from the shadows of their mentors, the Monroe camp, and are becoming an intimidating force, but Dean Holliday will know that Olavski has a real chance of upsetting Heisman Jnr’s charge to glory.

The casino can’t split them.

Washington vs Magaba

145lb Division

Washington 8-2 was on an 8 fight win streak until he ran into Mac Jackson and dropped a decision for the World Title. That night this world class boxer was out thought and out fought in the clinch, but up until then he had beaten a number of more experienced fighters, including Lupe Pintor. Washington coped well with Pintor’s effort to get the fight to the ground, so one wonders how Magaba is going to fair in this department.

Magaba 6-3 is a BJJ brown belt, and he is going to shoot for the get go here as he will want no part of Washington standing. While Magaba could get lucky and secure an early takedown, the fact that Washington hung with Pintor on the ground suggests Magaba is in for a tough night.

More previews later….

Heisman camp fighter Thor Okam approaches the podium for his press conference: "Thank you ladies and gentlemen for coming. I've been asked several questions over the last few days about rumors circulating behind the scenes at INY and from various media sources. I wanted to answer these questions all at once. I do not now, nor will I ever believe the rumors that Mr. Speedy Gonzaitev "slept" his way to the top of INY management. I believe his promotions to co-owner and various other titles was based solely on his abilities in the promoting world and not because of any special "favors" done for Mr. Steel. I also believe that Mr. Gonzaitev's fighter Anthony Ventura has not received any preferential treatment because of any kind of inappropriate relationship Mr. Gonzaitev has with Mr. Steel. Frankly, I'm shocked at how many people seem to believe these unfortunate rumors and feel that the person responsible for spreading them should be fined or suspended in some way. Thank you, that is all." The reporters erupt with follow up questions for Thor, but he is already entering his INY Limo and speeding away.

INY 59 Pintor vs Diaz

Feb 2, New York City

The Undercard

Dobson vs Peitexeira

265lb+ Division

Two bombers are going to collide tonight, with Dobson 5-2 4Kos a heavy handed boxer, looking to get back to winning ways after dropping a decision to the highly regard banks.

Peitexeira 10-8 7 KOs was upset in his INY debut when he faced Olavski, who exposed his suspect ground game. Not a factor tonight, these two will throw bombs and I’m backing Dobson to be the man standing when he dust settles, but to be honest, it could go either way.

Renninger vs Ibakka

205lbs Division

Renninger 7-1 is on a 4 fight win streak, and is looking to get involved in the big fights in the division, so this is a must win fight to keep that momentum going. He has dangerous kicks and a strong clinch, and looks to be a real star of the future.

Ibakka is stepping down from 265, where he suffered his first loss last time in the cage to the vastly experienced Van Kirkland. Ibakka 3-1 3KOs is a boxer, and he matches up well with Renninger, in what should be a striking master class. I’m going with Renninger, he has the edge in experience.

Plum vs Ghandi

170lbs Division

Clash of the journeyman with Plum 6-6 looking to keep it standing and use his boxing against the Ghandi 5-4 who has decent ground skills and submissions.

It’s a pick em.

Durak vs Kokina

170lb Division

Durak 1-8 is crap, out of shape, stinks of his shit, his management have fucked off, and he is getting cut from the org after this fight.

Kokina 2-2 is rounded, and should use his striking to secure an easy win, however I’m confused as to why this woeful wrestler shoots for so many takedowns?

Riddle vs Jin

170lbs Division

Two late starters here with Riddle 1-0 a striker from the Assasi camp, facing the Wellman Jnr camps new protégé, Jin. Riddle may look to take this into the clinch, but so little is known about these guys its hard to call, but I suspect and striking match and probably a war in the clinch.
