@soyster89

Lets be honest Mr. Pickle is out skilled and out matched in this fight....But based on how Picklesbys career has been going I figured I'd do some charity work and hook you up with a winnable high profile match. But.... Whats more likely is we make it 4 straight loses for you, and send you back to the bottom of the 170lb division in WVT. Only thing I'm relishing is spoiling your Brine MR. PICKLE OUT!!!

SPPS 265 Preview

IMG_6541.jpg

Happy 4th to all the Americans reading this and happy Tuesday to everyone else! Welcome to the event preview for SPPS 265! In our feature main event the lightweight title is up for grabs as “Front Man” Kurt Cobain looks to stave off the challenge of Maximus “Snakebite” Furioto! Same as before, I’ll briefly introduce each of the 5 ‘main card’ bouts and give my opinion on what each fighter needs to do to win.

#1 Red Jesus Karter vs. Roger Michael Stanley

IMG_6548.pngIMG_6549.png

I honestly needed a double take when I saw this one. There’s a vast amount of Karter clones floating around MMAT but I think this one takes it as far the avatar is concerned. Red has a fair amount of power, notching the vast majority of his wins via KO, and also demonstrates some wrestling acumen when he feels like doing so. Going 22 fights without being KOd once is also no easy feat and when paired with the spicy heat of his strikes it’s not hard to see what his path to victory is.

Across from him is a man with three first names and you KNOW to expect anything from a guy like that. Roger Michael Stanley has very similar strengths as his opponent from an outside perspective, he’s a natural finisher with 15 wins inside the distance. He does tend to struggle when his opponents refuse to lose consciousness, but I don’t think he’ll have to worry about that considering what we know of his dance partner.

#2 Antonio Barbosa vs. Nova Lankinen

IMG_6546.pngIMG_6547.png

This next fight is a rematch of a fairly recent fight at SPPS 210. Antonio “Barbarian” Barbosa’s nickname certainly checks out, as he seems incredibly insistent on grabbing his opponents in a clinch and going absolutely berserk. A man of simple tastes, Barb has made a career of mowing people down in the clinch and that’s exactly what happened in the first fight and I imagine he’ll have the same gameplan going into this one.

Lankinen’s chances hinge on either avoiding the clinch altogether or going blow for blow with a “Barbarian” who cares as much for his own safety as he does for his opponent’s. Lankinen is more of a variable threat, capable of fisting his opponents at a distance and while sitting on them on the ground. Neither one of those are Barbosa’s comfort zone, so if Nova can manage to stay in either of his favored phases of the fight, he certainly has a shot of putting his opponent away.

#3 Parta Matti vs. Will Wrecks

IMG_6544.gifIMG_6545.png

This is the kind of matchup I really enjoy writing about. You already know what these two big boys are going to do when the fight starts, and that’s stand in the middle of the ballroom and swing. Parta Party hails directly from The House of 1000 Corpses gym where Heavyweight greats Noah Anderson and Kjetil Olsen reside amongst an extensive cast of no-chin bang bros. Parta knows that he can only return with victory or death and has all the motivation to go straight at his opponent.

Playing the part of Captain Buzzkill is Will Wrecks who also plans to either return with his shield or on it, but that might be more due to his lack of self preservation. A question this fight looks to answer is whether Dopamine or Seratonin gives you a better chance of winning a fight.

COMAIN

Eemeli Lampi vs. Ali Amir

IMG_6542.pngIMG_6543.png

It certainly feels as if we’ve been spoiled with all these great heavyweight matchups lately. Eemeli Lampi is another Finn that likes to throw down with his most recent contest being against the champ, Noah Anderson. We know Anderson hits hard, so it was wild to see Lampi get up from consecutive Anderson knockdowns. The guy definitely has heart and he’s got power to boot and he’ll need both against his opponent.

Ali Amir is a big heavyweight standing at 202cm, 16cm taller than his opponent and on top of that has a little bit of a submission game making him all around dangerous. More than likely the fight ends in a KO, but the potential for big boy grappling is always intriguing.

MAIN EVENT: LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE

Kurt Cobainimage.png.24ac004b7c4a0881eb241cfe81b5191c.png vs. Maximus Furioto

IMG_6535.pngIMG_6534.png

I know what you’re thinking: “Rush, that super cool poster for the event isn’t showing the actual avatars for the fighters! What’s the meaning of this?” Fear not, concerned reader, for the reason is I cannot stand the idea of using the generic avatars to make an event poster. I simply won’t do it. Sometimes I get a cool idea and can work around it every once in a while, but I’d honestly rather make a brand new custom avatar for the guy than put that on a poster. If either of them want, I’d gladly turn the models on the poster into a legit avatar and let them have it for free just to cut down on the number of generic avatar heads in SP. That honestly goes for anyone on the roster, but I digress:

Cobain is a really fun fighter to read about. You can go through his fights since he’s been under his current management and it seems like he’s got a new plan or strategy every time he’s out there and he never seems like he’s in that much trouble. He gets plenty of opportunity to utilize his power, too, notching 2 KO victories in his last 3 against the former champ Ranger Alderidge.

The other half of this main event is Maximus Furioto, a Japanese outlaw biker and submission specialist. As fun as Cobain is as a fighter, he definitely lacks any kind of submission grappling, something that Furioto will look to capitalize on with back to back ‘Sub of the Night’ awards. The only thing I really want to point out is that while Furioto’s striking leaves a lot to be desired, going 2/31 on takedown attempts like in their last fight isn’t going to help him out very much, especially considering this fight is 5 rounds instead of 3.

SPPS 266 Preview

IMG_6566.jpg

Happy Friday! Same as before, I’ll briefly introduce each of the 5 ‘main card’ bouts and give my opinion on what each fighter needs to do to win.

#1 Kiryu Kazuma vs. Bagel Boss

IMG_6573.pngIMG_6574.png

First fight of this preview features yakuza legend Kiryu Kazuma against possibly mob connected Bagel Boss. Both of these guys are heavy hitters that only accept payment in the form of chins. On paper it seems like Kazuma might have the edge in terms of chin, but Mr. Bagel has been around the block and then some with over 50 fights to his name and that kind of experience comes with a lot of ‘lessons’ learned.

Kazuma is a pillar of the SPPS roster, however, and has a storied history of his own. He’s a former champion with multiple title reigns and some absolute wars under his belt. Both of these fighters should be treated as a health hazard and approached with caution on fight night.

#2 White Rain vs. Rob Roy

IMG_6571.gifIMG_6572.png

Up next is Thai Cheese specialist White Rain against the legendary face cracker Rob Roy. Jokes aside, Rain has actually been on a bit of a tear and is on a 3 fight winning streak with his last 2 finishing inside the distance. Despite being in SPPS for nearly a year and fighting a veritable who’s who in the Lightweight division, Rain has never once fought for the title and he’ll be looking to change that with a victory over Roy.

That won’t be easy, however. Roy may have only come to SPPS at the start of the Summer, but he’s made an impact in the division by winning both of his first two fights by knockout. Roy will be looking to steamroll Rain on his way to bid for the right to challenge for the title.

#3 Mate Orsic vs. Mister Mediocre

IMG_6569.pngIMG_6570.png

Up next is certified strangler Mate Orsic against the unfortunately named Mister Mediocre who is much better than his name and current run of form would lead you to believe. I would say he’s more of a ‘Mister Pretty Good.’  A former SPPS champion who has gotten results in nearly every phase of a fight it’ll certainly be tricky to gameplan against this wily vet, but I have no doubt that Orsic will provide a threatening answer to that question and there’s a very real chance it’ll be the correct answer too.

COMAIN

Zawisza Czarny Z Garbowa vs. Willy Mataitai

IMG_6567.pngIMG_6568.png

Zawisza already has the ‘Longest Name of the Night’ award locked up. Speaking of locking things up, I imagine his gameplan for this fight will consist of locking up with Willy on the ground and attempting to twist one of his limbs off because he spent too much time getting that BJJ red belt to mess around at striking distance.

Willy Mataitai, on the other hand, wants to be farming neighbors with Zawzy in that he never wants to be close enough to smell him. Not to say that Willy can’t wrestle, he’s just more about hitting dudes in the face at arm’s length. Both of these sharks have been circling the title picture and a win here would certainly have them smelling blood.

MAIN EVENT: WELTERWEIGHT TITLE

Vasil Petrovimage.png.238aaf7bbaa67cc08dee798c5f45bf34.png vs. Keisuke Matsuzaka

IMG_6557.pngIMG_6558.png

This is a very intriguing main event from a narrative perspective. You have relative newcomer in Petrov coming into SPPS from some other place and winning the title in his second fight for the org and adding to his winning streak and on the other side you have an SPPS legend in Keisuke Matsuzaka making another bid for reclaiming greatness. Admittedly, I’m happy whoever wins because it’s a great fight, but as a Sucker Punch fan you can’t really help but root for Keisuke to make a comeback and beating Petrov would certainly cement him as an all-timer if he wasn’t already.

Thoth Chontamenti:
I know that you guys have missed me so I'm back, as well as I'm back into the win column, I have to finally start finishing people because those judges are messing me over from left to right, a laughable Majority draw because I don't even know what these people were watching maybe football or something but definitely not my fight, and a Majority loss in a last one? Cmon so I have to resort to finishing people once again it seems, and today was the first showing of that, I will be back.

Parta "Party" Matti

Straight after his fight after being jinxed by the preview curse, Party Matti is back on the grind, ready to further embrace the Church of Just Party and Bleed. The pink dolphin boss found him just the right foil in Thoth Chontamenti and Matti was keen to communicate just how serious and professionally he's approaching it:

"I've been in a bit of a funk man, and not the groovy type. All that Finnfighter snow is just not pepping me up to the same levels that I used to go, man. They gotta let me double dose, man, double dose. Then I'll be zooped up and ready to party!

They say this Tooth Chewamentos guy has been winning a couple of fights here and there. I'm not sure about this guy man, he seems to dabble in the dark arts of hugging people against their consent and I'm not about that at all. But, on the other hand, he also bleeds. If it bleeds, we can party all over it."

Parta "Party" Matti

"Bro, that's all very poetic and all, but I hope you get a refund from your speech writer. That's straight out of ChatGPT.

All this talk about deep and drowning? I know how to swim, bro. How do you think I go to all the pool parties? Just remember, no hugging without people's consent please. I have a safety whistle."

Oh I'm pretty sure you know how to swim, but would you still be able to swim up with all the weight dragging you down? Your safety whistle will not save you, the only people that might help you are the referee and me when I decide to let you go, which is up to me, keep that in mind.

Are we 100% certain that Thoth isn't part crocodile?!?  I mean, this guy sounds like he's intending to do a croc roll on the party man!

The Dragon of Dojima with a career first beating Bagel Boss so hard he submitted, who's the next challenger for him to beat off!? Wait...

Legend has it that Bagel Boss coats himself in cream cheese prior to a fight, the fans want to know: What flavor he went with for your fight?

The legends are true, a wise technique to throw your opponent off their game, make them hungry during weigh in's. Kazuma could not deny the undeniable stench of Lox and Onion cream cheese all morning but no one pulls the wool over the eyes of a dragon because dragons do not wear clothes and know when somethings suspicious because they have very big eyes.

Le Franc cracks Galanis with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Galanis tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Le Franc pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Galanis is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Guy Le Franc!
