Bellicose Champion Check-In #1

Jerry Goon - 135 Bantamweight (5-1,4-1 Bellicose)

After losing the Featherweight title, Jerry Goon shocked the Bellicose world by forfeiting any chance at a rematch, and dropping 10 pounds to fight at Bantamweight. Though he had never fought at 135 before, a rapid knockout of 2-0 Armani Jones in a 145 lb bout earned him a shot at champion Sean Dash, and just 42 seconds into the 1st round, he recovered from a massive one-two from the Memphis native to put his lights out with a flurry of lethal blows. Time will tell if the brutal weight cuts will take their toll, or if the boxing Brit will continue to make his right hand the most feared in the division. Next up, he faces submission machine and K Britt team member Artemis Bray (4-0, 4-0 Bellicose) in an intriguing clash of styles on November 27, at Bellicose: Priest vs Saturn 2.

Mateo Daverio - 145 Featherweight (5-0, 5-0 Bellicose)

The uninitiated among you may wonder why I name dropped K Britt. The notorious manager is a bit of a Bellicose legend, for better or worse. His Legion of Doom runs roughshod over the org, holding 3 out of 8 titles and has challengers set for 2 more. Mateo Daverio not someone you want within 2 feet of you, winning 4 of his 5 matchups by TKO. Landing an unbelievable 31 elbow strikes per fight, any contender better keep their guard up at all times, lest they get completely overwhelmed. He won the title by doing just that to former champion “Psycho” Patrick Bateman, the grappling sensation. At Bellicose: Daverio vs Girith on December 3rd, he’ll have to step up his game again as he faces off with Garyn Girith(5-1, 2-0 Bellicose), the purple belt and former BMF fighter. Girith has 3 first-round submissions under his belt, so Daverio better keep this one on his feet.

Datte Bayo - 155 (Lightweight (4-0, 4-0 Bellicose)

Bayo is the current holder of the most well-travelled belt in Bellicose. The “cursed” belt has only been defended once since its inception, but since then, has had a new champion every time it was fought for. “Believe It” Bayo certainly looks the part to break the curse though, since not a single one of his 4 opponents has lasted 3 minutes against the barrage of punches that the 26 year old can throw. The Lightweight champ certainly benefits from the tactical acumen of manager Scott Bandz, but there’s only so far that tactics can get you. Bayo more than bridges the gap between good and pure superstar, so if he gets you on the ground, you better start praying. Bayo looks to keep the Legion of Doom under K Britt from claiming yet another piece of gold when he squares up against Harrison Cutler (4-1, 1-0 Bellicose). Cutler has claimed every victory behind an arsenal of punches and strikes, so expect the hands to fly hot and heavy at Bellicose - Bayo vs Cutler on November 28th!

Samuel Draven - 170 Welterweight (5-0, 4-0 Bellicose)

If one was to write a how-to guide on sprawl and brawl, they ought to look no further than Ohio-born knockout artist Samuel Draven. Picked up by Bellicose after a 71-second knockout in a regional promotion, he rewarded their faith by claiming the Welterweight title in just his second match with the org. It’s remained there ever since. Some would argue that he hasn’t faced the kind of high-quality opposition that Bellicose usually provides, and a September beatdown of a clearly outmatched Matt Smith lends credence to their point. But if Draven comes out of Bellicose: Ike vs Kai on November 6th with the gold remaining where it’s been since late July, there will be no argument. There, the proficient puncher will square off in the “people’s main event” against the versatile 20-year old Kanud Odimabesser (4-0, 3-0 Bellicose). Odimabesser has ended fights with strikes, submissions, and decision, and has absolutely torn his way through the Welterweight Division. This fight won’t go the distance, but it won’t be soon forgotten either.

Dean Howard - 185 Middleweight (6-0, 6-0 Bellicose)

Dean Howard may as well get the Middleweight belt tattooed on. Since he claimed the initial title at NYCL 17: Hittah vs Wellstone, he hasn’t let anyone come close to taking it away. The K Britt fighter won his debut fight with an emphatic slam at the very first Bellicose show, and hasn’t lost since. Training with his team of elite fighters clearly pays off, as the Vermont native has shown to be able to find a way to end fights even when he can’t lock in one of his trademark arm locks to force a tap. Dean is tied with LHW Champion and Legion of Doom teammate Ike Wellstone for most wins in Bellicose history. The brown belt is well rounded, and anyone who intends on etching their name beside his in the annals of Middleweight history faces a steep task. Jake Paul (4-0, 4-0 Bellicose) is the next to make their attempt. Though many claim the 20 year old Ohioan is all flash and no substance, 4 knocked out opponents may beg to differ. Though he shocked the world with a 36 second KO of former BMF champion John Brown, not many give Paul a fighting chance against the limb-twisting talents of Howard. He gets his chance at Bellicose: Howard vs Paul on November 20th.

Ike Wellstone - 205 (Light Heavyweight (6-0, 6-0 Bellicose)

What is there to say about “Iron” Ike Wellstone that hasn’t already been beaten into the face of anyone who’s brazenly challenged him? After a pair of TKO wins over former champ Big Hittah, one to win the title and one to notch a defense, Ike faced off with Doug Funny, a fighter who had (at the time) an undefeated record, but the fight was controversial. Not because of the method of knockout, but because the punch-loving Funny had only won amateur bouts before, and there may have been better contenders. K Britt denied any matchmaking wrongdoing, but the outcry intensified when the New Orleans native was announced to face Kai Tokugawa(6-1, 0-0 Bellicose) at Bellicose - Ike vs Kai on November 6th. Nobody denies that “The Dragon” is a talented fighter (the striker is on a 6-fight win streak), but the Kyoto-born fighter has never completed in Bellicose before. Notably, Bill Smif and the undefeated Cyborg Reyes both argued they were far more deserving, and that Tokugawa had mostly completed in regional promotions. If Ike wins as expected, expect one of those two to try and back up their words with action and end the reign of the Legion of Doom manager. “Tomato cans no longer” is the rallying cry of the internet.

Prokop Pustik - 265 Heavyweight (4-0, 4-0 Bellicose)

Ever been run over by a bus? Then perhaps you have some idea how the opponents of Prokop Pustik feel. The 19-year old changes the atmosphere when he walks in a room, like suddenly we’re all reduced to prey hoping a predator doesn’t notice us. The quiet Czech flips a switch at the referee’s command, and turns into a monster. Though some thought it bold to give a title shot to someone in their 3rd professional fight, Prokop took just 2 minutes to turn Nathaniel Jones’ face into mincemeat, and claim one of the titles left behind when double champ Lars Bishop was sentenced to 15 years for felony tax evasion. Prokop has taken less than 8 combined minutes to put the lights out of 4 men, and the Heavyweight belt looks pretty secure. That said, Vedran "The Missile" Mihaljevic (5-0, 3-0 Bellicose) looks to be a big test, having punched the lights out of all 5 men he’s met in the cage. The Croatian colossus won 2 amateur fights before being picked up by the pervasive Legion of Doom. Both men will remember this one, both in their bodies and in their minds. They each put their undefeated records on the line at Bellicose - Prokop vs Vedran. Hot money is on this one going less than a round. The two powerhouses each are looking for a knockout, and I expect it to come with “of the night” right behind. This one is going to be good.
Jaco The Rastafarian Priest - 265+ Titanweight (6-1, 1-0 Bellicose)

Hailing from Kingston, Jamaica, Jaco is almost as much experience as he is a man. Having defeated Hiroshima Nagasaki for the belt after the arrest of Lars Bishop, he has an extensive record of beating the piss out of anyone in his way. The lone L on his record comes from a surprise head kick from potential future contender Jacob Blake. Other than that, the Rasta practitioner hasn’t had much of a challenge. At Bellicose - Priest vs Saturn, that changes. The November 27th event brings forth his first contender, Bobby Saturn (3-0, 3-0 Bellicose). The massive Saturn must have some kind of debt, cause he collects “Knockout of the Night” bonuses like there’s no tomorrow. But it will take more than a good punch to knock out the champion. It can be done, but the 20-year old priest isn’t going down easy. The colossal collision is selling tickets like there is no tomorrow, and Bellicose confirmed the ring is being reinforced. Our prediction: Jaco mows down the contender en route to a Blake rematch.

Leeroy Brown: Thank all you foxy and beautiful people out there running into Bad Bad Leeroy Brown the baddest cat in the whole dang town hosting the baddest show. I have the young Hank McCoy here with me tonight who in his own right is a bad cat who has hit in the MMA scene by storm no pun intended. Welcome Hank.

Hank McCoy: Thank you it's a pleasure to be here with the original bad man himself.

Leeroy Brown: Mmhmm you know that's right. Tell all these jive turkeys tunning in a bit about your opponent tonight.

Hank McCoy: Sure thing. Listen up all you happening cats out there. The man's name was Anders Kristiansen he was a fighter 4 years older than me coming into this with a 4-1 record and all wins by knockout and only loss coming by way of submission. Truly a scary opponent.

Leeroy Brown: Who won the fight my man?

Hank McCoy: Well I did and it looked much much easier than actually was. He seemed a bit off compared to his usual self to me.

Leeroy Brown: Oh really? What makes you think he seemed off and surprised you?

Hank McCoy: Well Leeroy I don't know if it's because maybe I hurt him and he didn't want to stand with me but he kept trying for takedowns even though he didn't land a single one and I'm a much better wrestler than he is. I got the takedown there and he was about as easy to maneuver around the ground as I expected as I spent most of the time in full mount, but I was shocked by how well he defended my submission attempts.

Leeroy Brown: How did you win?

Hank McCoy: Well I busted his nose and then gave him a couple really nice thudding leg kicks. Then he started to hobble on the lead leg and gave it another big leg kick and saw him wence as he took a step and at that moment went high with a kick that landed flush to the head. I immediately jumped on top and swung a couple times as I didn't see the ref already rushing in to stop the fight after the kick. I do apologize if those last two hits were unnecessary and a little late. He would have to be the judge of that.

Leeroy Brown: Anything you would like to say Anders you happening cat.

Hank McCoy: Again sorry if those shots were late I was just in the moment of the fight. I heard you got a little hurt not sure if it's the leg or the shots after the head kick but hope you come back alright. Also THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE OPPORTUNITY. I know you going to comeback even better.

Leeroy Brown: Such a classy cat. What's next for you?

Hank McCoy: Homework. Unless you mean fighting wise then I don't know whoever Bellicose says they want me to. I have complete faith it will be good competition whoever they put me in there with. So far been given 2 tough opponents here and I'm 3-0 and every single opponent in my career has been a tougher opponent than the last.

Leeroy Brown: All you jive turkeys listen up and you listen up real good Hank McCoy is one bad mamma jamma and he's coming for you. Have a good day, congrats on the fight, and good luck on the next Hank. This is the baddest guy in the whole damn town signing off.

After the grueling 4 - round fight for the Light-Heavyweight title, the new champ expressed his deepest respect towards "Iron" Ike Wellstone and said that he hopes they meet again in the future. Of course, first of all, Tokugawa has to deal with the "Tomato cans" waiting for their shot.

Given how long Ike was the champion and going to championship rounds I wouldn't be surprised to see Ike get an immediate turnaround.

Usman Jr:

“Samuel Draven , let me get the opportunity to share the cage with a Bellicose Future HOF like yourself. It’s nothing but respect between you and I , but not signing on the dotted line is making me question the respect I have for you. I guarantee i’ll finish you in 1…If i’m wrong prove it to me!”

”On a side note, that bum of a fighter eurezo or however you say it has the audacity to diss me and call me a duck. Check the response on buzz.”

James Howlett: I'm only a 155er but I'd be happy to tap you out at 170.

James Howlett: You talking about being relevant and winning the belt. You don't have a belt either. So guess you aren't relevant. Like I said it's ok that you're scared. If I were you I wouldn't want to get tapped infront of a room full of people either by a younger, smaller, more talented guy either.

You talk like you are the big dog of the house, but I think we all see now you are just the little scaredy cat in the corner. Junior is right because you dang sure ain't the original.

Sanka Coffee: Hey everyone feel the rhythm feel the rhyme get on up it's MMA time. Thanks for tunning into Sanka's MMA show I have two guests here with me today Hank McCoy and James Howlett. Welcome guys.

Hank McCoy: Thank you Sanka.

James Howlett: Thank you Sanka.

Sanka Coffee: First question I have is for James tell us about ya beef with Usman Jr. mahn.

James Howlett: Sure thing Sanka. Really isn't no beef. I just don't like guys who talk big but aren't. I knew he would turn the fight because he's fake. He wanted to publicly talk about a fighter dodging him. If you are going to have the gall to do that then anyone saying let's go no matter who it is and if your response is anything other than you're on means you have no room to talk about dodgers and duckers.

Sanka Coffee: I hear you on that one had a bunch of dodgers back in my day mahn. And you Hank you keep finding yourself matched up with a tougher opponent everytime you fight. Tell us about your most recent opponent.

Hank McCoy: Well my next opponent is 26 year old 6-1 Doug Funny. He has 6 KOs all by way of ground and pound and even fought for the belt against former champion Ike Wellstone. He lost that fight. And if anyone knows Ike knows he was a great champion. In his loss of the belt in his last fight he dominated the first 3 rounds before losing in the 4th.

Sanka Coffee: Is that a jab at the current champion at 205 Kai Tokugawa?

Hank McCoy: He was being dominated for 3 straight rounds and found a way to come back and win so hats off to him but it's a dig if he denies Ike the reshot at the belt after getting manhandled until championship rounds against a guy on his 3rd defense of the title.

Sanka Coffee: I see that point. James what about your current opponent?

James Howlett: Well my opponent is 26 year old 2-2 Wubbe De Klerk. He is a stand up fighter and while I'm constantly getting better in my striking game I'm not foolish enough to stand with him.

Sanka Coffee: So going for the takedown nice and we'll get back to that. Hank how do you see the fight with Doug going?

Hank McCoy: Well it's no secret Doug plans on putting my 100% takedown defense a run for it's money. He's a really good wrestler but I think I'm a better wrestler and we both are purple belts in bjj, but I have him completely outclassed in the striking game. So it's going to a match of who can impose who's will if he can get me to the ground which is no small task then he has a shot and if I can keep it standing the safer approach in this fight then it's my night.

Sanka Coffee: Hank that is a well thought out game plan which is no surprise I have heard a few of your other interviews and you always seem to have a pretty analytical unbiased approach to your fights.

Hank McCoy: Thank you.

Sanka Coffee: You're welcome. Now James you are very confident in your bjj isn't that right?

James Howlett: Yes I am. At 15 I won the Canadian brown belt bjj tournament and at 16 I won the Canadian bjj open competition for all belts. That got me scouted by Old School Training in Hilo Hawaii. MMA sounded like a cool thing to try and test of my bjj while a chance to grow my knowledge in martial arts as a whole. So I accepted the offer and got flown out and live in a dorm at the school they got me into. My training at Old School Training is free as long as I teach a grappling class once a week and give 30% of my purse from my fights to them. I hear talk that they are planning on giving me my black belt in bjj before my fight but I could see them wanting to celebrate with presenting it to me after the fight as well.

Sanka Coffee: Wow really? A black belt in bjj would you be the first bjj black belt in all of Bellicose?

James Howlett: I'm not sure about that maybe, but I would definitely be the youngest one.

Sanka Coffee: Well that's all we have time for.

Usman Jr “read this and can’t say anything bad… i said Draven is a future HOF but i’m losing respect for him ducking if that’s what he’s doing. Howlett has some guys to step to a Top WW and i had to stand my ground and so did he. my approach changes depending on the opponent and i definitely see Howlett as a possibility in the future. not just any fight… a super fight.”

”i have no beef with Howlett but in his interview he brings up he’s too smart to stand with his opponent the whole time… i feel the same why about his challenge, i’ve worked to be in the position i am today. me taking a fight against a rookie could risk my chances of being a champ. i no doubt think i can beat Howlett, now just isn’t the time to take a risk fight like this if i’m 2 maybe 1 step closer to what i got my eye on and that’s the 170 belt!”
